Places to stay in Suffolk
With Dunwich Beach a stones throw away and overlooking the stunning Dingle Marsh Nature Reserve Avocet Cottage is a truly special place to stay on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. The South facing, private garden, looks out over the marshes and you can hear the sea lapping at the beach. You might even be lucky enough to spot the deer that live in the paddock opposite the garden! The Suffolk Coastal Path runs adjacent to our driveway and is perfect for exploring the coast...
Avocet has two large bedrooms, one family size bathroom and an extensive open plan living/dining/kitchen space perfect for entertaining. The south facing courtyard is completely enclosed so is safe for children and pets. This 18th century cottage boasts exposed, original beams and hand made oak doors throughout along with all the modern amenities that the 21st Century traveler could need!
Dunwich is a sleepy coastal village on the famous Suffolk Heritage Coast . The village is the perfect place to relax and unwind with the beach a mere stones throw away and the local pub a two minute walk down a sleepy lane.
  • A perfect holiday home. Clean and bright and beautifully laid out and finished to a high quality. The sheer amount of widows and glass doors overlooking the garden filled the cottage with natural light. The location is fab, just on the edge of Dunwich and easy walking distance to the beach/pub. And, easy driving distance to all sorts of other villages and towns. I’m looking for reasons to book it again.

  • Avocet Cottage is beautiful, set in a lovely location. Great host and the food in the cafe is very yummy! Me and my family really enjoyed our stay here, and will be returning in the very near future. Thanks Kirste, Jenny, Pete, Ethan and our dog Sophie

  • The barn was the perfect weekend getaway. It’s well located for exploration of the Suffolk coast. Sophie was a great host and made everything easy for a great getaway.

  • We had a great stay, the cottage is clean and comfortable with plenty of room. It is a great base for exploring the area by car to nearby Southwold and Aldeburgh. It’s a short walk to a nearby beach, which is lovely for a walk around. There is a pub up the road that does nice fish and chips. The tea rooms next door is also great for lunch! Thank you for a lovely stay, we highly recommend it.

  • A lovely and private space with everything you need and the perfect location in a wonderful walking area and close to the coast. Response time was excellent and during our five day stay Amanda was really helpful on site at the tea rooms as and when needed.

Eastwood Lodge is a great place to start if you’re looking to relax in the exuberant countryside of Walberswick. The entire twin unit is for yourself. You'll be in the heart of the Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve, just 4 mins drive or 15 mins walk from Walberswick town and its stunning coastline beaches. Walberswick have the best salt marshes around. The lodge dates back to the 1900 and still keeps its historical rustic nature and traditional roots, perfect for a relaxing holiday.
The lodge is composed of four separate units: On the ground floor brings you the main unit and on the first floor, three more units with different set ups to meet all different guests needs. The newly refurbished, self-contained studio sleeps two people and has a spacious bedroom overlooking the garden. The studio has two single beds, a fully equipped shower and a separate kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and also comes equipped with crockery and cutlery, however please be aware these are not cooking facilities.
The surrounding scenery is very accessible; there are plenty of woodlands and beaches to explore which are walking distance from the property. You also have the famous Blyth Estuary, which is just behind the property and is upmost a pure haven for bird watchers and nature lovers. The property is located within the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty nature reserve. A very beautiful area surrounded by breathtaking aspects of nature. You are just 4 minutes drive or 15 minutes’ walk from Walberswick town and its stunning coastline beaches. In the Town, you will find food stores, pubs and restaurants to suit all your needs during your stay. Suffolk coasts have large areas of protected wild naturals habitats along the coast, which includes beach, dunes, forest, heathland and the river Harbour. Dunwich heath is a 10-15-minute drive which is owned by the National Trust. Many beautiful areas with mixture of exuberant views to see. You will also have access to RSPB Minsmere, which is 20 minutes drive from the property known for the many species of birds they consist of alongside fellow birdwatchers. There are also many other attractions which is open most of the year round and you will find more information in the leaflets provided at the main entrance giving a more in-depth of the locations/opening times/prices etc. These include visiting Framlingham Castle, Orford Castle, Stonham Barns Owl Sanctuary, Africa Alive (zoo), Eastern Farm Park and more. If you walk/drive into Walberswick you are then able to walk over the Bailey bridge and you are then in Southwold, which is most definitely worth a visit. You can also use the little ferry, which takes you over the harbor once again ending up on the Southwold side.
  • The upstairs twin apartment is an ideal little bolt-hole for a rural stay on the Suffolk coast. The lodge is about a 10mins walk into Walberswick, but only 1min in the car. There is a little Co-Op store in the village. This is a rural stay on a farm, so ideal for getting away from it all. The heating is really effective, the WiFi good and the shower was great. The breakfast bits were nice - milk, cereals, bread OJ and yoghurts - ideal. Do be aware there is no hob or oven - just microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, but as long as you're aware it's fine! The half hour walk to Southwold can be done across a bridleway (so off road) and is lovely. I would re-book another trip without hesitation.

  • A comfortable stay and welcoming to our dog. Lots of good walks and some excellent places to eat. Takes a little while to warm up in cold weather and the plumbing could be better, but this wouldn't prevent us from returning. Working wifi, TV and refrigerator are nice touches.

    Leo2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge was delightful. Super clean, nice touches with the breakfast, good location and overall, great value!

    Paul2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here! Paolo responded quickly, gave us the use of a cot bed free of charge and was very accommodating to our needs. The place itself was easy to find and enter. It was very clean and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the special touches that were left - milk, butter, bread, croissants and teas and coffees. Walberswick itself is absolute beautiful and you are just a short drive into the village from here. Thank you Paolo.

    Kara2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nice fresh room in a quiet location just out of the village but great to head off over the common in several directions for the great walks. Comfortable beds and clean and quiet.

    Cathy2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at Paolos place. I went with my dog and loved exploring all the walks in the country side around. The pace was comfortable and very relaxing.

  • We had such a lovely weekend stay here, the house is beautiful and location even better. It’s perfect for a quiet trip away with friends or family. The stairs are steep and narrow in the house so do take this into consideration when booking.

  • Highly recommended - a stones throw from an incredible gastro pub, the beach and numerous walks. A perfect get away!!

    Sarah2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay for Christmas with our family. Great house, great walks, close to the beach and great pub a stones throw. We would love to go back and stay again.

    Chloe2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a terrific place for a burgeoning family like mine. Lots of space for 8 people to enjoy being together but not on top of one another. Highly recommended!

    Kim2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Roger's place is lovely, very quaint. The location is great, right next to the sea front and pub. My family and I had a fab weekend and we would definitely recommend it.

    Natalie2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a perfect stay at The Old Post Office. The house is lovely and cosy - the kitchen and dining area in particular... even in late October it was such a lovely space to be in. The location is also great. Dunwich itself is tiny but the beach and museum are worth a visit and The Ship was nice for an evening drink. Then there’s so much to do within a short driving distance - so many beautiful vast beaches, plus lovely towns and beautiful walks. Roger was a great host, really clear and quick communications and the check-in process was super easy. Would definitely recommend this place and hopefully we’ll be back soon!

    Jenny2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, quirky, comfortable, family home surrounded by peace and natural beauty. Would be v happy to return for more of the same.

  • A fantastic location to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Suffolk. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and fantastically located in picturesque dunwich. We loved walking on the beach, visiting the ruined abbey and town museum and sightseeing in Southwold. We all had a lovely half term break and the house was the perfect base.

Visit the museum to discover how the city of Dunwich was lost to the waves.
  • This is the second time I have stayed at the Church cottage. The house is beautiful, excellent resourced kitchen, great artwork with lovely touches, lovely bedrooms and cosy fireplace. I could not recommend this place enough. The location is perfect for beaches and walking. Dunwich is a great village and Southwold is not far. We made it over to the Adnam's distillery and had a great tour. Mike is incredibly helpful! If you want a relaxing weekend near the sea this the best place to stay.

    Alexander2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous , tastefully decorated character cottage in a wonderful location. A short distance from an amazing sandy beach at Southwold, a charming town. Lots of lovely walks for canine friends and the views of the sea and nearby lighthouse are extraordinary. Highly recommended.

  • We all loved Mikes cottage and had a wonderful time exploring Dunwich and the local area.

    Jude2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage with great views. It is in a brilliant location - just on the outskirts of Dunwich village itself so very quiet and peaceful but within a few minutes walk of the beach and The Ship inn. Also, it is within a few minutes walk of one of the best tea rooms in Suffolk - great for breakfast, lunch and tea! It is also particularly well located for great walks. We look forward to returning ....

    Frances2019-07-26T00:00:00Z

The Old Lamp Room used to store the lamps for the lighthouse until it became automatic. It is now an annexe to the old Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, which is our family home. Guests have their own front door and are free to use the small front courtyard garden which has a bistro table and chairs. Situated up a small path, behind the lighthouse and moments from the beach. The high street with its shops, restaurants and pubs is a 5 minute stroll away. An ideal cosy bolt hole.
There is a kitchenette with table and chairs and a shower room. The kingsize bed is on a mezzanine level, accessed by a staircase. Please note that the head height of the mezzanine is restricted. An ideal small and quirky bolt hole for those looking to eat most of their meals out, but with space to prepare breakfast and cold meals, or even chill a bottle of wine.!
  • Ideal location situated right in the centre of Southwold but tucked down a quiet allyway. The description is accurate, it is small, although the bathroom is quite luxurious. The bed was very comfortable, just mind your head on the low ceiling. Laura was very helpful as we arrived early. We had fresh bread, butter and a pint of milk waiting for us on arrival, a nice touch. We didn't get to meet in person as accommodation had it's own entrance and was very private. Will certainly look to use it again.

    Stanley2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • well positioned little get-away for two, perfect for exploring southwold, and right next to the pub!

    Kane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time and the 'mouse house', as it came to be known by us over the weekend, was lovely: small but perfectly and thoughtfully formed. We will be back!

    Ian2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Lamp Room is a lovely quirky place to stay. Very clean and comfortable in a great location. The rainfall shower is fantastic.

    Jackie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fab little place. Great location. Just enough room to put your stuff but swinging cats not recommended.

    Eddie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot in the centre of everything. You do need to keep yourself busy as it’s compact but very clean and modern.

    Gayle2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I and my dog enjoyed our stay! The location is great, right in the heart of Southwold by the lighthouse, yards from the beach, a short walk to the high street, also right by the church and the Adnams brewery - the smell of malt & hops as I got out of the car took me right back to my childhood! The Old Lamp Room is a sweet little place, it is very small but really cleverly designed, private and well equipped. Very warm in the chilly February winds. Lovely shower. All spotlessly clean. Laura is a great host who responds quickly and provided thoughtful touches such as flowers, fresh milk and dog treats. I’d definitely stay again

    Anna2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Clever 'tiny house' in a fantastic location just 2 minutes from the beach and Southwold shops. Great base from which to explore the area, walking, shopping, lots of places nearby to eat and drink. The kitchen area is perfect for breakfast and snacks with a fridge to keep wine and treats from the local deli. Modern clean and comfy with thoughtful touches provided. Romantic weekend hideaway :-)

Three story 16th Century Grade II listed holiday home in the heart of Dunwich conservation area. Boasting some of the best views in Suffolk. Idyllically located two minutes walk from the beach. Dunwich is an unspoilt seaside village surrounded by some of the country's finest nature reserves, The house is very well equipped with wifi & wood burning stove
Ship House is spacious and welcoming. The top floor bedroom / sitting room is very popular, (please note that this bedroom can only be accessed via main bedroom) with incredible views of the marshes forest and coast. In Springtime the songs of Nightingales and Bitterns can be heard from the marshes. On Summer nights with the windows open guests can hear the waves on Dunwich beach. The house is styled after Kettles Yard gallery in Cambridge, with exposed timber and an uncluttered style.
Ship House is at the very centre of Dunwich, yet quiet and private, the house has only the small garden at the front but immediate access to the best of the heritage coast. The area is renowned for wildlife with many rare species visible from the house. BBC Springwatch team have stayed at the house three times! The famous RSPB reserve at Minsmere is only a mile away. The pub next door offers the finest local food and drinks. In Summer we often swim in the sea and walk back to shower at home. Ship House has a loyal community of regular guests who return to enjoy its unique location and charm.
  • A beautiful house in an even more lovely location. Minutes walk from the beach, surrounded by great walks. We only had 2 nights and wish we could have stayed for longer. House is great, warm and very comfortable. We loved the log burner and the fully equipped kitchen. Dogs has the best time too!

  • We had an amazing few days in Julian and Sally’s home. It was spotless clean with sone love touches and very comfortable beds, the house was equally equipped with everything you need home from home. The location was great to being literally on the beach and next door to a good pub (no noise could be heard from the pub) Juliana day sally were great to communicate with too and I can highly recommend a stay here, we will definitely be returning soon :)

  • If you’re looking for a tranquil and beautiful home to stay in, you’re in the right place. It has a well equipped kitchen and is tastefully decorated with artwork. We loved going for walks along the beach and nearby countryside plus being next door to a fabulous Adnam’s pub was very handy!

    Peter2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home in a perfect location. Lots of space and very comfortable. Really recommended by all of us who stayed. Appreciated the option of an early check in and late check out too!

    Emily2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage, well equipped and comfortable. The location is great. It's next to the Ship Inn at Dunwich, with good walks to Southwold via Walberswick, to the bird reserve at Minsmere, through the forests and across the heathland to watch the rutting deer, and of course beach walks by the sea. Property as described, host communicated very well.

    John2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • A little gem for the weekend. The pub next door is fantastic and you're a stones throw from the beach. Warm and cosy for an autumnal weekend. The top floor bedroom does have to walk through the middle floor bedroom to get to the loo which was fine for a weekend, but probably not longer than that. Julian was fantastic and a really fast and kind host!

'The Wheelhouse' is a small self contained chalet in the garden of the main property. It is only 100 metres from the beach and 350 metres from the Town Centre. There is on-road parking without restrictions. There is a toilet & basin with heated towel rail, but no bathroom/shower. Arrangements can be made for the use of a shower if required. Having spent time in 'The Wheelhouse' myself, this didn't present a problem. I am open to discussion for pets to stay, just contact me before booking.
The Wheelhouse has a nautical theme. Pets are allowed subject to a couple of requirements. The attic space has been loved by every visiting child, but I too have slept up there many times
There is so much to do within walking distance of the property, transport is not necessarily required. Southwold has a shuttle bus. There are many places to eat in the Town, all within 350m and plenty of activities all within a 20 minute walk:- An 18 hole Golf Course, Sailing Club, Fishing which includes, Beach, River and Boat, also Freshwater Lakes 1 mile away. River cruises, Power boat Sea blasts, Surf school, Walking and Cycling - Cycle hire is available in the Town.

  • The Wheelhouse is exactly as it is described. We stayed for 2 nights and it had everything we needed. Spotlessly clean, it is in a beautifully tended garden and flooded with light. The Pier and beach are on the doorstep and the centre of delightful Southwold is a 2 minute stroll away. It’s little gem of a place and J is lovely host.

  • Jayne’s home is fabulous. Everything was lovely and clean and there were fantastic personal touches left behind, like wine and chocolate, to add to the experience. Plenty of spare bedding and towels too. Just remember to mind your head on the doorways! We accidentally hit our heads a couple of times but soon learnt.

Greenside is a 20 minute walk to Southwold beach & High Street which offers plenty of choice for breakfast & dinner. A self contained room with own entrance & parking outside on drive. It is attached to our family home but completely private. The room has been recently refurbished to a high standard with luxury touches such as a feather mattress topper, 100% cotton bedding & fluffy towels and small fridge - big enough for a few essentials, such as milk (provided), water, wine etc.
Greenside has been tastefully refurbished with a seaside flavour. The room has direct access to the garden which guests are free to use. The private en-suite bathroom has an electric shower and shaver point. We provide TV with Freeview and the room has good Wi-fi. There are tea & coffee making facilities in the room.
We think of Reydon as a suburb of Southwold. The Blue Flag beach with its famous beach huts is a 20 minute walk as is the vibrant High Street with over 80 independent shops & restaurants. We are well placed for exploring the whole of the Suffolk coast. Aldeburgh, Snape, Woodbridge can be reached in well under an hour.

Layout >>>> Please note this listing is for just the guest wing - there are two other listings, one for the main house without the guest wing (sleeps 6), and one for the entire house with guest wing (sleeps 8+). See the floor plan in the pictures for the detailed layout of this listing. Hallway >>>> the entrance hallway has a glass French door front and entrance. Within the hallway is a large set of cupboards but these are retained by the owner for household equipment, supplies & linen. Plenty of hook space for all the outdoor clothing! There is crockery, cutlery and glassware for four guests, and a 1.5 size basin/drainer, with ample worktop. There is plenty of space in the kitchen to store supplies for your stay, and for your convenience I provide some basic cooking supplies to prevent you having to bring with you (oil, salt, pepper, and a few dry ingredients); there is a great shop and separate deli in the village to get further supplies. There is a Miele washing machine in the kitchenette too, which normally belongs to the main house, but feel free to use it! Sorry, no dryer. Extra Loo >>>> Off the kitchen there is a separate and recently refurbished separate WC/wash basin. PLEASE NOTE: There is no separate living room in the guest wing. There is a small two-seater sofa in the bedroom to relax on, and of course the table and chairs in the kitchen. Outside >>>> there is a sweet little front garden enclosed by a wonderful copper beach hedge. There is a cafe table and chairs for four just outside for those all-important sunny breakfasts. (Access to the back garden is just for the owner or for guests in the main house). General Facilities >>>> I provide one set of linen for the bed, bath/hand towels, and separate beach towels (in the summer). If the duration of your stay is longer then arrangements can be made for a linen change mid-stay for a modest extra charge. For the colder times of year, there is underfloor heating in all rooms which works off an air-source heat exchange system. The guest wing can be made beautifully cosy in the winter months. • This little annexe is a beautiful place to stay. It has a huge and very comfortable bed with an ensuite. A lovely little patio with a table and chairs to sit out on, we didn't use it as the weather was unpredictable, but it's an outside private place for guests. The host Oliver, is lovely and responds almost immediately to any questions you might have regarding the property or your booking. You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay here.

    Jeanette2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely two night pre Christmas stay in this fab flat in the heart of Southwold. We stay in Southwold a couple of times a year, but this was our first stay here. Lovely flat, larger than we thought, with all the amenities you could want. Thoughtful touches like milk and a bottle of prosecco were much appreciated. Really comfy bed too! Very short walk to the seafront, and opposite the best fish and chip shop in Southwold. Communication was easy, as was arrival. Pull up outside to drop off luggage, and then we parked on the sea front not too far away. We will be back. Thanks Penny.

  • A fantastic place to stay. We stay at southwold 3 or 4 times a year and visited a dozen properties.........this is the best place for a couple to stay. Totally recommend 👍

  • Penny's appartment really is a romantic place to stay. Superb location and beautifully appointed. We loved it!

  • Penny’s flat is a perfect place to stay for a weekend in Southwold. We had a little trouble finding it as Google directed us to the wrong location (we arrived late, it was dark and we were tired!) but once we were in we were pleasantly surprised. Especially as Penny had left us a bottle of fizz (thank you!) The flat is clean, comfortable and cosy. It felt a little chilly when we arrived but the heating is excellent and warms the place up in no time. The beds are comfy and considering the place is on the main street it was quiet. There is no permanent parking on the street outside but as we arrived late we were able to leave the car overnight then move it before the 8am restriction. There is a free car park a couple of minutes walk away. The location of the flat is perfect. A stone’s throw away from the beautiful beach and right on the main street. If you are looking for a weekend escape I would highly recommend Penny’s place.

Dunwich Dunwich is in a conservation area, enjoying views across the marsh and sea towards Walberswick and Southwold adjoining Dingle Marshes Nature Reserve, Dunwich Heath (cliff top is National Trust owned) and Minsmere Bird Sanctuary. Its an ideal location for enjoying bird watching, walking, riding, cycling and sailing etc. Today it is a small village with a large shingle beach, a Heath & Forest stretching to Westleton in one direction and Walberswick in the other. During the Autumn months, come along to the Heath during October and November and enjoy deer safaris in the area. There is a very attractive Coastal Path walk running paralell to the coast which runs for about 3 miles to Walberswick, famous for its crabbing competitions ! There is a Trail you can follow around the local sites including the Greyfriars Friary and Church ruins five minutes walk from the house. Coast/Beach: We are less than 100 yards from a green flag beach. Dunwich Museum tells the amazing story of a city lost to the sea through the narrative of its collection and the knowledge of its welcoming staff. The Dunwich story spans the first millennium to the present day. Walk the dog at Dunwich Heath. Dunwich is part of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you love nothing more than a long walk beside the sea, a brisk stroll before lunch, cycling along quiet lanes, sailing iconic estuaries, or spending hours quietly watching some of the UK's rarest wildlife, the beautiful landscape of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB has it all. Enjoy some of the region's best fish and chips and a pint of local ale. The Ship at Dunwich (one minutes walk) offers views across the marshes and sea, whilst you enjoy a delicious meal of local Suffolk produce and ales. It's dog-friendly too so after a long walk with your dog you can both enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation. Just a short drive or an hours walk, from the village you will find RSPB Minsmere home of the BBC's Springwatch. Here you can spend a day spotting some the UKs rarest birds and wildlife including the Avocet, Bittern, Otter and Red Deer. There are many events to take part in too; with guided walks, bird box building workshops, 4x4 safaris and stargazing to name but a few. Walberswick and Southwold are a two mile walk in land or along the beach at low tide. The more adventurous can take the two minute rowing ferry over from Walberswick, to buy fresh fish from the fisherman's huts, and then on to Southwold which has plentiful shops and a wonderfully 'frozen in time' pier. Aldeburgh is a short drive down the coast. Famous for many things - good food, great fish & chips, Aldeburgh Music, Maggi Hamblings' Scallop on the beach, as well as a vibrant art and music scene festival. The historic Jubilee Hall built in 1887 and nestled on the seafront, is home to the Aldeburgh Literary Festival which takes place every March, as well as many other music, performance, theatre, festivals, talks, fairs and more throughout the year. Snape Maltings, also nearby, is one of the world’s leading centres of music, where you'll find inspiring concerts and festivals throughout the year, from the flagship Aldeburgh Festival to the folk, world and jazz of the Snape Proms. Golf http://www.southwoldgolfclub.co.uk Southwold Golf Club is a traditional members golf club offering a warm welcome to all visitors. Golf has been played at Southwold for 130 years, one of the oldest Suffolk golf clubs. Its challenging nine hole heathland layout provides a test for all golfing abilities. The course is playable virtually all year round with greens that are widely regarded as amongst the best in East Anglia. http://www.aldeburghgolfclub.co.uk Aldeburgh Golf Club welcomes visitors to both the Championship and the River Course throughout the year. "And for anyone who, given the choice between a literary talk in Aldeburgh and a round of golf, would guiltily opt for the latter, the Aldeburgh Golf Club is within easy reach and, as important, notably friendly and un-stuffy". Craig Brown. Established in 1884, Aldeburgh Golf Club has two courses, the 18 hole Championship Course and the River Course, a delightful 9 holes more suitable for beginners and high handicap golfers. Dunwich is known as the lost city of England. Dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, it once stood proud as the capital of the Kingdom of the Eastern Angles, at its mightiest matching 14th century London for size. It was a seat of power for the Anglo-Saxon bishops for centuries, an international port, and the Domesday book of 1086 puts the population at over 3000 as opposed to a population of eighty now. Dunwich Museum tells the amazing story of a city lost to the sea.

The Suffolk coast has many attractions. We have wonderful sunrises as well as sunsets in our garden. We have good bird and wild life. We are 3 miles inland from Walberswick and Southwold and close to Dunwich and Minsmere with many good walks. As well as the White Hart in Blythburgh, which has wonderful views over the estuary, there are excellent places to eat in the surrounding villages (The Anchor at Walberswick and Mains at Yoxford are in the good food guide). The nearby cafe at Darsham Nurseries has had very good reviews for unusual dishes. There are a number of farmer's markets and shops close by. Blythburgh is famous for its large and beautiful church, known as "the Cathedral of the Marshes". Concerts are held here as well as at Snape Maltings (25mins drive) during the Aldeburgh Festival and at other times of the year. The Latitude Festival (mid July) takes place about a mile from the village.

The cottage is equipped for four people with a king bedroom and a separate twin room. There are some very steep stairs that you need to take into consideration. 'The Coach House' in Reydon, just beyond Southwold, is a fantastic and newly decorated cottage with a lovely modern feel incorporating the traditional structural beams. This property is perfect for couples looking to escape the stresses of daily life and wishing to explore Southwold and the heritage coast. We have (August 2019) addressed some of the concerns raised about the property getting tired. Very popular means quick wear and tear!!
Reydon is in a fantastic location, just a mile outside the popular seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. As such, it is an ideal base for those wanting all the components of a seaside holiday cottage but in a more peaceful setting. There is everything you’ll need for your holiday here, with two well-stocked grocery shops, selling essential items as well as locally produced fruit and veg, and an excellent local ‘watering hole’, The Randolph. For the more active, you can easily walk from your holiday cottage to the centre of Southwold where you can enjoy the beach huts, with their eclectic names and colourful paintwork, stop for a coffee on the Pier, climb the Lighthouse for the magnificent views, or simply wander along to the Harbour to buy some fresh fish at the harbour fish shacks or the Southwold Smokehouse – ask for a bag of ice to keep it cold for the walk home! If you can't be bothered to cook then just nip down to The Harbour Inn or The Nelson (known to the locals as The Nelly!) or The Boardwalk Restaurant at The Pier. There are some great walks right on the doorstep: the ancient woodland of Reydon Woods for starters, as well as a walk across the River Blyth and Bailey Bridge to the charming seaside village of Walberswick. Stop off for a pint and a ploughmans or fish pie at The Bell Inn. Further down the coast, there is a stunning heathland, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which sits under the auspices of the National Trust and RSPB Minsmere.
  • Great location to explore the surrounding areas and a welcoming cosy retreat at the end of the day ... lovely local pub, The Randolph, walking distance. Very romantic for a weekend away ...

My home is a spacious bungalow with a sunny garden near to the coastal village of Southwold, an excellent base for coastal walks, exploring the beautiful countryside and enjoying the local beer. Enjoy Southwold's family friendly old fashioned values
My bungalow has three rooms available through airbnb.co.uk, there are two doubles (one with ensuite) and a single or twin bedded room which would be ideal for children and has room for a cot. There is an adjoining door between one of the doubles and the single although each has access from the main hallway.
Southwold is a peaceful backwater with access to as much or as little commercial activity as you like. The house has good WiFi and is warm and comfortable. I do not subscribe to Sky Sport! The beach here is Blue Flag and is a wonderful location for walking and thinking. Phone signals are generally good, but its is quite a good place to turn your phone off for a few days. If you are attending Latitude, there is a free shuttle bus to the site (10mins) from the end of the road. Other things you can do are an Adnams Brewery/Distillery tour, visit the old fashioned arcade on the pier or get in your car and explore the east coast.

Sea View is an exceptional stylish detached house with a fabulously designed interior and a beautiful secluded landscaped garden. The house is a short stroll from the beach, in the unspoilt and historic village of Dunwich, at the heart of the conservation area. It is surrounded by some of the country's finest nature reserves and is the ideal location for enjoying country and coastal activities from your doorstep.
Sea View is an an early Victorian detached estate cottage with a characteristic local style. This beautiful house, fully renovated in 2012, has been designed using a mid-century/modern Scandi and coastal style. Parking is easy all year round. It is extremely well equipped, with a high specification throughout, with a log burning stove and lots of original features. The garden was professionally designed and landscaped by a leading garden designer. The large kitchen (with a dining table) is fully equipped with Smeg appliances and all the equipment you could need; a real cook's kitchen. Further to this there are two reception rooms. A large dining/living room opens out on to the garden to form an indoor/outdoor space, and has a long dining table which can sit 8 people comfortably. The other reception room is the main living room with 2 sofas and 2 armchairs; it is a great place to lounge and has a TV and a wood burning stove. There is a fantastic free standing bath and shower room with WC downstairs, and an additional shower room with WC upstairs. The house is equipped with central heating, water softener, internet, wifi, a wireless sound system (SONOS), TV, fridge/freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The garden has a private lawned area, and large fold-back doors open out on to the patio. There is outside furniture, deck chairs and loungers. The accommodation is comfortable for 6 people, and would ideally suit couples or a family of up to six. There are three bedrooms: one with a king size bed, one with a double bed , and a third bedroom with full sized bunk beds.
The Ship, an award winning pub with excellent food, is a few doors away, and the seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, both of which have fantastic restaurants, shops and cultural activities, are close by. There are beautiful interesting walks from the door, either along the beach, across the marshland or through Dunwich forrest. Minsmere RSPB nature reserve is close by. National Trust’s Dunwich Heath and Coastguard Cottages are nearby.
  • What a gem! We enjoyed a lovely few days literally getting away from it all in Jill’s super house. As a family of five with kids aged 3, 9, 11 there was plenty of space inside and out. The sunny family room is fab for playing games and enjoying a family meal, my toddler loved the basket of toys thanks. Great walks on our doorstep and a fantastic pub The Ship which was thankfully still serving takeaway in light of Covid-19. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner on Mother’s Day. Great communication and a nice welcome gift from Jill, the perfect host - thank you again

We are perfectly located, with Southwold town centre and beach only a 10-15 minute walk and with easy access to other attractions along the Suffolk coast. You can walk from the house across the marshes to Walberswick, Dunwich or Aldeburgh. We have off-road parking which is a luxury during the summer season! The new super-king bed is amazing! The room is comfortable, light and airy and has a TV, internet and an abundance of tea, coffee and hot chocolate to refresh you after a busy day exploring.
The house is Edwardian and was built in 1904. The rooms are big and airy with high ceilings and many of the original features. Off-road parking. It's perfect for exploring Southwold, you can walk everywhere from the house. You can walk off road across the stunning marshes into Southwold, Walberswick, Dunwich or even Aldeburgh straight out from the house. Hiring bicycles is a good idea and you can even book a surfing lesson, have a sea blast on Coastal voyager or take a brewery trip around Adnams
  • What a great place to stay. Quiet, super clean, so well cared for, great large comfy bed....and all an easy walk into town or to the sea front. Julie was warm and welcoming and so quick in her responses to queries beforehand. Loved it. Will come again! Thanks!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The room and bathroom were much bigger than we expected. We received a warm welcome from Julie, who showed us to our rooms, and gave us our keys. We appreciated the tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities, with the water, milk, and welcome packet of biscuits. The house is well situated for walking into Southwold, and the car parking is a bonus. We would happily stay here again if in the area.

    Maxine2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Huge room with very comfortable large bed and lots of cushions. Good storage spaces, and lots of tea & coffee with fresh milk daily, and biscuits. Short walk to Southwold, and lots of good walks all around. Huighly recommended.

  • Julie was very helpful and also communicated in a timely fashion, great location and fantastically clean and comfortable room! Clean and great shower - with privacy, Cheers Julie! see you again.

    Edward2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is just right about Julie’s place. Julie is very helpful. The room is spacious and all you need is provided. So many thoughtful touches and an easy walk into Southwold. Our 2nd visit, as good as the 1st and when we stay in a Southwold we never look for alternatives. 👍

    Philip2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • A warm welcome and very comfortable accommodation. Easy stroll into Southwold for sea, sand, pier, prom, Adnams brewery, a good range of eateries and fantastic ice cream at Harvey & James (H&Js). What more could you want for a relaxing get away.

    Mervyn2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location x

    Maddie2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful Edwardian family home; our room was spacious and the super-king bed was very comfortable. Some nice touches such as a small thermos of cold milk for our tea, instead of those silly little mini-milk packs. Two lovely old chairs in the window-alcove, perfect for sitting reading. The spotless bathroom was right next door to our room and we had sole use of it; a good shower. We didn't actually get to meet Julie, as we weren't there much and everyone was out enjoying the sunshine! She was very helpful, though, and responded very swiftly by Airbnb email to any enquiries we had during our stay.

A charming, single story cottage, just perfect for two, with a wood burning stove, rural views and a private veranda, in the village of Eastbridge on the perimeter of Minsmere RSPB reserve.
With a classic, country sitting room and a well appointed kitchen, the Studio is ideally positioned at the gateway to Minsmere nature reserve and a short walk to a stunning stretch of Suffolk's heritage coast, thereby offering a variety of fabulous walks. Kitchen area: fully fitted and well equipped with ceramic hob, fan oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The counter also serves as a bar for breakfast and informal dining Living area: with a large sofa, single chair, window seat, wood burning stove, TV with DVD, DAB radio, fold down table and chairs Sleeping area: the sofa is effortlessly converted into a full size double bed (sheets already fitted). A large closet stores the duvet and pillows (ready to use!) with some hanging space Bathroom: with a large shower cubicle, power shower, wc and wash basin Outside: A small enclosed garden with south facing veranda, table and chairs and views across open countryside. Parking: off road, on a private driveway Heating: A wood burning stove with an initial supply of logs and kindling, assisted by storage and fan heaters Also... wi-fi and 4G coverage but patchy mobile signal.
This delightful village is off the main tourist trail yet the local pub, The Eels Foot Inn, is extremely popular and on one of the best circular walks in Suffolk. The coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness are a short drive away and the legendary town of Dunwich is close enough to walk.
  • Small but perfectly formed, the Studio is a great place to retreat from the world. It's ideal for a couple and Judith couldn't have been nicer when we forgot to check the box to say our dog was coming with us. We left some money after damaging a placemat and she sent a note to thank us. A great stay at a lovely place.

  • Has everything you could want

    Phillip2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet and peaceful studio with comfortable sofa bed. Well-equipped kitchen and excellent shower. Off-road parking on a drive behind a gate. Private outdoor space to sit in. Janet was a friendly and helpful host.

    Ruth2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly food pub 2 mins away. Walks to the coast and around Minsmere. Handy for Dunwich, Aldeburgh and Southwold. Dog friendly. Clean, flowers in room, wine, bread, fruit, and water on arrival. Wildlife - we had a pheasant on the fence just outside. You could have baked a cake or prepared a roast dinner with the available kitchen equipment.

    Paul2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place! Perfect location for exploring minsmere and the local pub in the village is a real gem! You can easily walk into minsmere from the cottage as we did, and then you can spot even more birds and listen out for bitterns on your way in. The cottage was lovely, and it was great to have some supplies left for us on our arrival. Thoroughly recommend.

    Jessica2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous and cosy! I would highly recommend this place. If you come after dark, a torch is absolutely imperative because there are pretty much no lights around - on the plus side, you will see an amazing starry night if it's clear - a real treat. You can create a mini weather system in the (awesome) shower, though don't forget to switch the boiler on beforehand, and cook up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen if you like , but there are some good places to eat (e.g. Regatta in Aldeburgh) as well.

    Wenye2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Best equipped cottage we have stayed in. Lovely private garden area to sit in, which gets the sun for breakfast! Fantastic walks, especially through woods and heathland to the National Trust coastguard cottage tea room, and to Minsmere bird reserve. The village has a friendly pub, the Eel's Foot, which does evening meals, and music some weekends. We came without a car, by train to Darsham station then by taxi (you MUST book in advance one of the Halesworth or Leiston taxis, or you will be stranded!). and beware, there are no shops in the village, nearest shops are 3 miles away, so if you come without a car, bring provisions with you as we did (although the cottage kindly had left us some milk and fruit). A great place for an active walking weekend, or for a tranquil time with books.

    Helen2019-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful little cottage, tucked out of sight in a quiet location. It is ideal as a comfortable base for walking, bird watching and sightseeing. The owners ( who are local if needed) made us welcome with little extras. When we arrived there was a ready lit fire in the wood burner (it was mid' February when we stayed) fresh flowers, some fresh fruit and a few basic supplies.

  • Kerry and Steve were fantastic hosts - great communication before I arrived and very accommodating. The cottage itself was spotless and is beautifully decorated with everything I needed and more. There are so many thoughtful touches and you can tell a lot of thought and effort has gone into making the cottage feel like a home away from home. The location is fabulous too! I would highly recommend the cottage to anyone looking to stay in the area, thank you Kerry and Steve for a wonderful and relaxing stay!

  • Spent an excellent half term in Graham’s cottage this last week. Lovely cottage: nice welcome treats, very clean, lots of amenities, central location with easy access to a fab pub and natural wonders.

    Chris2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A unique, spotlessly clean property in a lovely location, ideal for visiting the Suffolk coast with RSPB Minsmere right on the doorstep. The view of the night sky really has to be seen to be believed as there is virtually no light pollution. Graham's enthusiasm for and knowledge of the local area allowed us to get so much more from our holiday and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. All in all, highly recommended!

    Simon2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in the countryside. The house was great and it really easy to get to the coast, plus a real encyclopedia of local information at the house for inspiration!

    Lucy2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This house is in a wonderful location, away from it all! If you need to disconnect yourself this is the place to be! Although there is WiFi if you really need to connect! The house is very well set up for families or adults (we were 2 couples). The beds are very comfortable and there is great amounts of storage space. The local pub (Eels Foot) is very accessible (we didn’t go anywhere else) with great home cooked food and a wood fired pizza oven. Altogether a great place to stay, on Minsmere’s doorstep.

    Kate2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Do not hesitate to stay here! It is exactly as the photos show on the website. Graham and Lindsey are wonderful hosts, very friendly and lots of local knowledge to get the most out of your stay. The house is ideal for couples or families, I had my space upstairs with tv, bedroom, en suite and lounge area overlooking the countryside while my mum had exactly the same amenities downstairs, plus the kitchen and dining area. Graham was easy to get in touch with both before and during the trip and he was kind enough to accompany me to Minsmere and to look for the local barn owls on a couple of occasions. The place is very clean and has lots of unique touches with decor. Eastbridge is ideally situated so that you can visit Aldeburgh, Southwold, Beccles and Lowestoft in no more than 30 minutes and you can actually walk to one of the hides at Minsmere if you want to. I am already planning to return next year.

    Anne-Marie2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home with great amenities and super comfortable beds! Enjoyed having the double lounges and unspoiled views over fields as well as spectacularly starry skies! Great place from which to explore this region and we both relaxed and had fun! We will endeavour to return.

    Kate2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for a peaceful break. The accommodation was lovely and so well equipped. Graham and Lindsey are the perfect hosts, welcoming and helpful. The surrounding countryside is outstandingly beautiful especially Dunwich Heath.

    Sheila2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Graham and Lindsey’s place was everything we wanted and more for our holiday in Suffolk. The space they have created is both unique in terms of architecture and also very comfortable. There were plenty of thoughtful touches which we really appreciated. I would highly recommend the location, and we enjoyed exploring the local area, particularly the beaches and towns at Southwold, Walberswick and Aldeburgh. The RSPB reserve is on the doorstep—a top attraction for bird lovers. The house was sparkling clean and communication with Graham was great. His local knowledge is superb, and we were grateful for his suggestions. We very much hope to stay here again in the future!

  • Adele is a fantastic host. Her stylish home is within a stone’s throw to the beach. It is spacious and sparkling clean. We’ve stayed there twice and will definitely go back. Would definitely recommend it.

    Julia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right by the seafront. Very cosy room with nice touches, like the complimentary snacks and drinks. Adele was very communicative in organising check-in, and very friendly and helpful. Southwold is lovely and I would definitely stay here again

    Matt2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was comfortable, clean and well located. Adele was very easy to communicate with, was helpful and very thoughtful when providing advice. Thank you Adele.

    Ryan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic host, room and all the little touches. We couldn’t fault a thing. Just superb all round, including meeting Molly puss. Thank you again Adele

    Nicky2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully bright and spacious bedroom with a fab en-suite attached - both spotlessly clean. The house is brilliantly located, bang opposite the sea and a minutes walk from the town center. Adele is a smashing host, easy to get hold of and quick to reply. Everything from early our check in, on street parking and the fantastic array of complementary drinks and snacks available in the room made for a really fabulous stay. This room is great value for money and we’ll definitely be staying again next time we visit Southwold. We had a memorable time. Thank you Adele!

    Elena2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve booked many AirBnB properties, but this was the first time I’d booked a room in someone’s house so wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I needn’t have worried. Like the previous reviewers have said, this was a lovely experience. The room is spacious, comfortable and well equipped -with complimentary extras that you wouldn’t get in a typical B&B or hotel room, like fresh milk, wine, fresh fruit. Plenty of towels, robes and a comfy bed. Adele was very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the location of the house is perfect for the seafront, pier and shops. My first trip to Southwold and I will definitely come back. I can highly recommend staying at Adele’s.

    Mary-Rose2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Adele's room was lovely, it was incredibly clean and had everything you could need and more - kettle, dressing gowns, different teas, snacks, drinks, stamped postcards, shampoo etc. It was perfect location, less than 5 minute walk to the high street. Adele was lovely, very helpful and I will definitely stay there again!

    Connie2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for hassle-free, convenient, clean and comfortable accommodation then Adele's is the place for you. The room with en-suite is fully equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, plus complementary fruit, biscuits and other nibbles, milk, bottled water, orange juice and even beer and wine. Another nice touch was the his and hers dressing gowns. We thoroughly recommend Adele's place, but as a cautionary note you may be unable to get close off-street parking and we would advise pre-booking restaurants, especially at busy holiday periods.
