Pool
“Although unremarkable from the outside, with a bland concrete facade, once you enter through the doors, a kaleidoscopic masterpiece of Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture unexpectedly reveals itself. Built in the 1920s, this decorative construction is a striking example of ‘Red Vienna’. Beautifully symmetrical wooden cabin doors line the balconies and multi-coloured mosaic tiles conjure up vivid nostalgia for bygone eras. The women’s spa contains some of the prettiest interiors- with a stained glass roof and shimmering blue pillars.”

“Switch off completely. This simple notion seems to have almost fallen out of fashion these days. And achieving a sense of peace and tranquillity is a highly individual undertaking. Luckily, Therme Wien offers plenty of different quiet corners for you to withdraw to, so you can tune in to your own natural pace and find a rhythm that matches your own. Free from distractions, without the noise of the city, and without the endless stream of demands – rediscover how to bring peace back into your everyday life. For children Make a splash and have fun – in other words, enjoy being a kid. Head for one of the numerous slides which coil through the spa like giant serpents. From the little ones’ perspective, the rides just seem to go on forever. Jump into the water and burst back to the surface grinning from ear to ear. Next it’s time for the wilderness of the garden where even more adventures await. It’s not for nothing that it’s known as the Adventure Stone. And there’s no need to worry about disturbing anyone – this part of Therme Wien is a separate world of its own.”

Farmers Market
“A permanent food market. Every Saturday until lunch time there are lots of vegetable & fruit street stalls selling exotic and local goods for a cheap price - come just before noon to get the best bargains and best experience (vendors here like to make a lot of noise :))”

Pub
$$
“In its fourteen years of existence, the slightly hidden Hawidere in the 15th District has turned into quite an institution. The beer and burger restaurant is a typical Viennese Gasthaus with a twist. Besides the lush and inviting Schanigarten (complete with self-grown tomatoes in beer crates), the interior will have you discovering plenty of fun, subtle details (we advise you go looking for the Craftkammer). Hawidere is known for its mouthwateringly delicious and multi-layered burgers, and its vast and equally mouthwatering craft beer collection.”

Farmers Market
“Meidlinger Markt is 3 stops away on the subway, or ten minutes by bike. It provides a bit of a break from the rather fancy neighborhood in Hietzing and allows you to experience street life in Vienna at its most authentic. Of course you will find a few great fruit&veg stands as well as butchers and bakers but most people come here for eating and drinking, and for the atmosphere. The people are very mixed, Viennese working class, hipsters, immigrants, all come here and that is reflected in the food options.”

“This place has been well kept secret for many years which I am now willing to share with you: Senhor Vinho - probably the best Portuguese restaurant in town with a remarkable selection of wine. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is delicious. It's maybe a bit more expansive than my other recommendations but totally worth it if you want to have a nice dinner with great atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation!”
