Places to stay in Frome

Places to stay in Frome
Charming Grade ll listed cottage tucked away at the top of Catherine Hill in the oldest part of Somerset market town Frome. Moments from the heart of the town but quiet and secluded. Open plan ground floor, exposed beams, stairs up to mezzanine bedroom .
This dear little cottage is small with the illusion of space. The unique factor is the sleeping platform above the sitting room. The stairs up from the sitting area are quite steep but the bedroom is cosy with the double bed in the centre to maximise headroom(6ft in the middle, 2ft6ins outer edges). Absolutely fine for sitting up in bed, but no leaping out and running to the chest of draws in the corner - the beams aren't very forgiving if you are over 5ft! Ideally this is for two people, but the sofa-bed in the sitting room allows for another person, or even 2, but the bedroom platform is open plan so privacy is in short supply!
This is surely the prettiest part of Frome, around almost every corner is a surprise and a camera moment! If you can have a bustling sleepy town then this is it. Catherine Hill which leads off Catherine Street is steep and cobbled and your route into the main part of Frome, just a 5 or 10 minute stroll depending on your agility! Independent shops line Catherine Hill and make a wander fun and interesting, it's like a little community filled with creative and like minded people where everyone chats with everyone. Occasional stops for tea or coffee are optional! History surrounds you in this part of town. The first Sunday of each month during the summer sees an independent market line the streets around Catherine Hill, and at the Cottage you have virtually front row seats!
  • Cannot fault this charming cottage. Location is perfect for town, and yet so tucked away. We adored it! Helen had left little touches throughout (milk, juice, bread, well-stocked basics in the cupboard) so it felt just like home and no problem when you forget the odd item! Such an easy check-in and lots of info left for us. Perfect!!

  • A really great location for exploring Frome and the cottage is extremely clean, comfy and cosy. Helen is a very attentive host too. We are both looking forward to our next stay already.

  • Fabulous location literally right in the centre of Frome - everything is a few minutes walk away. Tiny cottage, but with everything you could possibly want. Helen was excellent at communicating, left us bread/milk/OJ/tea & coffee - her cottage is really lovely. Highly recommend and we will be back.

You will have a single comfy room in a quiet house and neighbourhood. There is a bathroom with a shower. In the morning a simple breakfast of bread, butter and jam is provided. Off street parking is available and plenty of on-street parking close by. We are well-situated in a quiet road, only ten minutes’ walk from the centre of this thriving Somerset town. This modern house is a stone’s throw from the cobbled streets, independent shops and a brilliant selection of cafes and restaurants.
The bed is a single with the basics for a comfy stay. The shared bathroom is newly renovated and has a shower cubicle. I have been a little over zealous with a cleaning agent and there are now bleach marks on the walls of the shower. There are steps up to the house and the bedroom is up a flight of stairs. The kitchen can be used by agreement.

  • Great place to stay.

    Scott2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at Elizabeth’s. It was exactly as expected and looked just like the photos. The communication from the host was excellent - I had no issues with checking in or worries about anything. The pretty estate that the house is on is very quiet; perfect walking distance from the stunning town centre of Frome. My car was safe on the drive. There is a supermarket right across the road; it has everything that you need. The house is cosy and I was allowed to use the kitchen - great to prepare your meals if you have agreed before. Breakfast was a nice touch - toast with butter and jam with hot beverage. My room had a very comfortable bed with delicious biscuits/tea & coffee/kettle. Plenty of space to hang a few clothes for a few days. Desk and chair. The Wi-Fi was fast and stable with a good signal in my bedroom. I slept soundly here. I loved the powerful shower and decent bathroom. The place was sparkling clean and I would definitely recommend staying here. Elizabeth is an interesting, intelligent lady a we had a good chat. I will stay there again. It’s a superb base to see lots of interesting places. Excellent value for money. Thank you.

Comfortable and spacious room, with shower en-suite. A modern house, with on street parking, it is just a 5 minute walk to the cobbled street of Catherine Hill, with it's independent shops and boutiques leading you to Frome's town centre. On the first Sunday of the month (Mar to Dec) this is taken over by the wonderful Frome Independent Market. Frome is also near many other great places to visit - half an hour from Bath, Wells, Glastonbury and many beautiful Somerset and Wiltshire villages.
With its en-suite and drink-making facilities, you can be completely independent in this spacious room. I have provided a TV, DVD player, hair drier and iron for your use, and there is an excellent wifi connection. You can also use the small room nearby set up with continental breakfast provisions, a mini fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery.
Frome is a wonderful little market town, full of amazing independent shops and cafés - "best place to live in the south west" according to the Sunday Times. It is just a 10 minute walk to the centre down the attractive cobbled Catherine Hill - recently voted 14th prettiest street in Britain. On the first Sunday of every month (Mar - Dec) the whole town centre is taken over by the Independent Market full of quirky artisan and vintage stalls, delicious local foods and live music. There are also plenty of places to visit nearby. Longleat is just a 15 minute drive and it is only half an hour to Georgian Bath, Wells with its glorious Cathedral Close and Glastonbury's famous Abbey and Tor. World famous Stonehenge is only a 45 minute drive.
  • Great place to stop . Really looked forward to the breakfast before I left for a long days drive touring churches to Photograph them.

    Kiran2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had an extremely pleasant stay in Frome – Jane has done an extremely good in bringing together a very comfortable en-suite room with access to a breakfast room in a pleasant, quiet location with on road parking. Jane hosts this in a professional and friendly manner with excellent communication, ensuring that the stay is as comfortable and convenient as possible. Many thanks Jane!

    Chris2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was a lovely host, very welcoming and had thought about everything to make our stay very comfortable. The room had everything we needed and was a great base to explore Frome.

  • This is a lovely en-suite room in a great location. Easy parking and walking distance to town. Jane is very hospitable and the thoughtful breakfast touches were well received.

    Philip2020-02-21T00:00:00Z

Large, characterful and private top floor bedroom with ensuite in a relaxed and easy home. I am a friendly host who enjoys travel near and far. I am happy for well behaved pets to stay (I have a cat that is used to visitors) and delighted to accommodate little ones . Edge of countryside location great for country walks or a 10 min stroll down Catherine hill and it's independent shops into Frome centre. A local shop is 5 minute walk and play park opposite. Check in from 4pm but I am flexible.
The space is located at the top of a characterful Victorian terrace with lovely views of the edge of Frome and bordering countryside. It is a large room with a double bed for two adults but can easily accommodate a family of four - a blow up double mattress is available also. The ensuite is bijou but all yours with a shower, basin and toilet. There is a kettle station which houses a selection of teas and coffee as well as a small fridge for food and drink. I provide yoghurt, milk, cereal, muesli and fruit as a continental breakfast in the room . TV and WiFi also.
Frome is quite hilly. Walk is 10-15 minutes to center of town.
  • A perfect hidden gem just a short stroll from the centre of Frome. Lucy was very welcoming and the room was really spacious and attractive.

    Mike2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy's large attic room is beautiful, comfortable, peaceful & private. Was great having my own bathroom, fridge, kettle & facilities for making breakfast & snacks. Lucy provided a lovely selection of teas, cereals etc which made me feel very welcomed. I was very busy during my stay in Frome, so never got to meet Lucy in person, but everything was very well organised. I would definitely recommend her as a great host

    Katie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very comfortable three week stay here. The room is at the top of the house out of the way and having your own bathroom is a real bonus! A fridge and everything I needed for breakfast was also provided in the room which was great. Lucy was a lovely host and kindly let me cook in her kitchen a few times. Great location, very close to local amenities and the centre of Frome. Thanks Lucy!

    Mark2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy's place is lovely and just as described. The loft studio is private, warm, comfortable and spacious. I had everything I needed for a very comfortable week. The ability to grab a light breakfast in the studio was really appreciated as were the little touches that make life so much easier - fresh milk, good quality fresh coffee, bowl of fruit and local guide books. Lucy and her young son are perfect hosts - helpful, discreet, and always there to answer any queries. I enjoyed staying at Lucy's place, would thoroughly recommended it to others and I look forward to a return visit. Thank you!

    David2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to stay after exploring Frome. Lucy communicated clearly and helpfully before our stay. Lovely private room tucked away in the top of her house with everything left available for breakfast too. Thank you!

    Caroline2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy is wonderful. Her home is beautiful and staying in it was so easy and effortless for me. I had everything I needed including fruit and breakfast. If you are looking for a feeling of your own place this is just like that. The whole experience was exceptional.

Ideal studio for a single, a couple or a parent and child over 5 years. Cosy, quiet, with access to garden, 10 minutes walk to the fantastic town of Frome! Bed-sitting area plus ensuite bathroom, the studio has its own entrance. A beautiful walk through the protected Rodden Meadows brings you into the town centre, full of independent shops and renowned performance venue The Cheese and Grain. And be sure to book when the popular Frome Independent Market is on - the first Sunday of the month.
Coronavirus safety: I am deep cleaning all surfaces after guests leave. I am minimising crockery / cutlery / utensils and using dishwasher between bookings. I am removing my usual provision of teas and coffee. I ask guests to please wash hands after being out, and obviously do not come if you have any virus symptoms. A bed sitting space with a small kitchen area comprising kettle, toaster, and microwave. Enough utensils to prepare basic food plus a small fridge. Ideal for breakfast and a few light meals. Selection of teas and some coffee provided (not while coronavirus an issue). The bed is a queen sized double with a very comfortable mattress. TV receives Freeview and there is a DVD player with selection of DVDs, plus a selection of books. Guests are welcome to use the garden which has a sitting area. The shower is new and large - enough space for two! The studio is heated with far infra-red panels - a new technology that is extremely energy efficient as well as being healthy for the body. It is particularly good for allergy sufferers as it does not cause the air to circulate (therefore circulating dust). One of the panels is disguised as a painting of buddha - radiating warmth into body and soul! Bilbo the cat lives in the main house and if you like cats you may enjoy a few moments of cat love with him.
The studio is behind my house on a quiet residential street of semi-detached 1930s homes. PLEASE NOTE previous info (in THE SPACE section) about building taking place next door from March 2020 for four months. Frome is extremely popular for its Independent Markets which happen on the first Sunday of every month (except January and February). The town is closed to traffic and taken over by a huge range of amazing independent makers and producers including a delicious selection of local food and live music. There is also a second hand market in the Cheese and Grain carpark. There is so much to see and eat, it has become a popular destination from far and wide. You can walk from the Studio along the river and arrive right in the centre of things. As well as the market Frome is also known for its support of independent shops which makes the town a great place to find unique and quality products.
  • Very nice room in Frome, quite basic but has a comfortable bed, a good shower and everything else you need for a short stay. Lovely and clean, quiet location just a short walk from the town centre, and a very friendly host. The building site next door might be hindrance to long lie-ins when the weather improves, but work does not usually kick off until 8:30, so did not cause me any issues.

    Simon2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was clean, comfortable and quaint. Hilary was very kind and made sure that we had everything we needed. Although previous reviews said that the wifi was slow, we found it to be more than adequate as there was an extender in the room.

If you're already considering Frome for a visit, undoubtedly you're already sold on its obvious charms. Frome is packed with independent shops, beautiful eateries, wonderful friendly people and stunning architecture. Its a pretty bloody great place, with an independent council, cracking music scene and monthly festival like market, thats more like a street party. Its pretty special.
  • Our stay at Faye's place was delightful! The flat was in a convenient location near Frome which was a lovely town full of independent shops and eateries (I highly recommend Castello for tasty, authentic Italian food). The flat was stylishly decorated (particularly the bathroom) in a characterful building, inside was spotless and fresh milk was provided - a thoughtful touch. Faye's place was perfect for a short break away and I'd highly recommend!

  • A beautiful, stylish, comfortable and conveniently located flat, with some thoughtful touches. Made for a very relaxing few days in characterful Frome!

    Naomi2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great little place to stay. Went there with my wife and 5 month old. Faye offered the use of a travel cot so we didn't have to bring as much. Place was really clean and private but Faye was only next door if we needed anything. Really enjoyed our trip to Frome especially as most things were within walking distance. The on road parking is ok and we managed to always find somewhere to park. Thank you for providing a great place to stay, we will be back if visiting Frome in the future.

Town is buzzing first Sunday of each month with popular Frome Independent Market attracting thousands of people. Great base to explore Somerset. Light breakfast included.
A compact studio with en-suite shower and basic kitchenette (sink, mini fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave, no hob). It's perfect for two people, or one person with a child. NOTE :: let us know in advance if you're thinking of booking the studio on behalf of someone else who's not on Airbnb. As we'd like to know you'd be staying there before approval. There is a kingsize bed that you can fold up during the day (if you're coming for longer period of time perhaps). Otherwise we believe it's a perfect space to crush after long country walks! Direct access to the garden and your private patio. If you're coming to the market on Sunday, we suggest you leave a car on our road after you check out, as we are literally 5min walk down the hill to the market stalls. • A perfect location, with less than a 5 minute walk to the local town. The tiny house was beautifully decorated and we felt at home with the extra amenities such as moisturiser, sanitary products and cereals. The interior was cosy and really made our weekend, would recommend for anyone looking for an affordable getaway even if it’s to stay indoors and relax! An absolute pleasure to stay:)

Having enjoyed letting out my double en-suite, I’m now opening up a single room at a lower rate. It has fewer amenities but I hope might be suitable for people coming for work purposes or single travellers who don’t need much space. Although I call it a single, it actually has a double bed, so very comfortable for one person. You will need to share my bathroom, but it is right next door and has a full bath with shower over - and only shared with me!
Although the room is small, it has a double bed, and there are shelves, a bedside table, a small desk/table and chair. There is a kettle and items for making drinks, and I provide some snack breakfast items to start off your morning.
  • Great accommodation, room was very clean, spacious and cosy.

  • Jane's place is a fabulous find. I stayed in the single room, which is really comfy with a roomy double bed and lovely thoughtful touches, including kettle, coffee, tea and breakfast snacks. The WiFi was fast and reliable and there is even a little desk if you want to do some work. Jane was friendly and welcoming and was super-responsive: booking me in at very short notice! Everything was clean and Jane has taken real care with decorating the rooms with fun travel-themed accessories! The room was also great value and in a good location - just a short stroll into the old part of town and 25 min walk from the train station. Would highly recommend!

  • My first time using AirBnb and my experience was amazing. Great room, great service and great communication, Jane was amazing in accommodating my request. The single room is quite spacious for a single and the double bed is so comfy. Would definitely use again when in Frome.

  • Lovely place in great location

    Tess2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely little space, perfectly located close to the heart of artsy, independent Frome. We spent two nights at the Old Post Office with our 2 children (age 5 and 2) and loved the stylish, quirky decor, comfortable beds and gorgeous roll top bath. It was the perfect base from which to explore the local area, including a fabulous day at nearby Longleat. Our children loved the toys and books and slept so well in the brilliantly set up bunk room. The master bedroom is opulent and beautifully styled, with two sash windows and velvet drapes. The only point to note is that the brilliant central location does mean that there is some road noise, but it didn’t bother us and was perfectly quiet at night. All in all, a fabulous stay. Thank you Gemma!

    Olivia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Gemma’s place. Really well located for the centre of Frome - just a short walk away. Comfy beds. Our daughter loves the kids’ room with bunk beds and lots of books. Thank you!

Frome is also a great base to explore Bath (20 mins by car), Longleat (5 mins), Stourhead (15 mins), Bruton (15 mins - visit Hauser and Wirth gallery), Wells Cathedral (25 mins) and Stonehenge (35 mins). And don't forget to visit the historic and picturesque villages surrounding Frome.

The historic market town of Frome has many beautiful listed buildings and is renowned for its independent shops and cafes. It has also become famous for its huge independent market (held on 1st Sunday of the month from April to December). This spacious house is in a quiet area, just a five minute stroll from the town centre.
  • Wayne’s house is great - a proper ‘home from home’, warm, quiet and comfortable. It’s on the edge of town but only a few minutes walk (uphill from the town centre). The kitchen had a good selection of pans, utensils etc so we were able to do some cooking.

    Sandra2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really clean place, excellent location (quiet) very close to Frome centre and 10 min drive Longleat. Only an 8-10min walk into Frome. Virgin TV (with SKY sports) very handy especially with the bad weather we had on our stay. Host clearly cares about you arriving safely and getting indoors (we arrived during a storm). He even left a welcome package which was gratefully received. Would definitely consider coming back.

    Matt2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Wayne's house. It's very stylish and spotlessly clean. A perfect sized house for a small family with everything you need - we were 2 couples and a toddler and we were very comfortable. There's parking on the front drive and it's only 10 mins walk to the centre of town. Wayne was so helpful and gave us lots of tips about Frome and where to eat etc. Communication was speedy and he's also a very nice person. Would definitely recommend without hesitation. Thank you Wayne!

  • The house is very stylish and comfortable. The garden looked lovely and would bea great space to use in the warmer months. The house is a very close to the centre of Frome and a great base for visiting Longleat and Bath. Wayne left us some very handy tips to the local area and amenities and some lovely complimentary treats which were very much appreciated. We stayed with a 4 year old and the home is very child friendly. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay in this lovely home.

    Karen2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • This house was stylish, clean and comfortable. The perfect spot for a trip to Bristol and a visit to Longleat. The host was great and quick to respond while booking and throughout our trip. The added touches made our first Air bnb experience extra special. Would abolutely recommend Wayne and his house to anyone.

The house is a former weaver's cottage in the old, conservation area of Frome. Just a short two-minute stroll from Catherine Hill, it's the perfect spot to enjoy Frome's independent shops and cafes. The Garden Room is en-suite, quiet and looks out onto an old courtyard garden.
The main part of the house was built in 1694, so tall people may need to mind their heads going through some of the doorways! (But don't worry, the living spaces themselves are of at least full ceiling height.)
Frome is a wonderful, quirky town, recently named the 'best place to live in the south west' (by the Sunday Times). It's well worth exploring, but is also ideally placed for visiting other beautiful places in the south-west. Georgian Bath is only 13 miles away. Stourhead and Longleat are within half an hour's drive. Wells and Glastonbury are also within easy reach. And then there are all the smaller towns and villages, and the rolling Somerset countryside.
  • A wonderful place to visit, Olivias home is welcoming and peaceful. A perfect retreat, very central, just walking distance to shops, cafes and restaurants. Clean, tidy and relaxed. Would highly recommend.

It was a really nice room to stay in & we definitely recommend her as a host.

  • Hilary's studio is such a lovely retreat, very peaceful with everything you need and an incredibly comfortable bed! It is newly built to a super high standard, warm, tastefully decorated, perfect for a couple to have some down time, rest and chill out which we did and if you're luckier than we were w weather you could sit outside in the very pleasant courtyard in front of studio. Hilary was very helpful and responded to our queries really quickly. This is a great base for exploring Frome and area, close to Catherine Hill with eateries and shops etc. Definitely recommended.

    Sarah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a sweet and cozy spot! Tucked away in the garden, it’s a beautiful space to unwind and get some quiet time. It’s close to town and easy to get around. Hilary and Nick have done a great job setting this space up to meet a traveler’s needs. It has everything you’ll need to be comfortable and also care for yourself while traveling, which is such a blessing. You can feel their thoughtfulness in little and big ways. Gotta love the heated floors! Highly recommend this spot, especially if you value being in your own space. The WiFi is great for anyone who works online or needs a good connection.

  • This was my second stay at Brocksmoor Studio and it was as good as the first time. Wonderful. Now it's winter, the studio is cosy and dry and a lovely space to come back to after a day exploring Frome and its surroundings. Hilary and Nick have thought of everything, and it is all done to high quality. Very highly recommended.

This is a charming 18th century former weaver's cottage in the heart of Frome on Sheppards Barton - a pedestrian cobbled street which feels like you've stepped back in time! Niddy Noddy Cottage is a cosy home from home with a very pink door. You couldn't be better located to amble to the plethora of independent shops and cafes at the end of the street, or if you want to venture further afield, Frome is a great base to explore the South West. Parking for one car available 600ms from cottage.
Niddy Noddy Cottage offers contemporary, stylish facilities, housed within the fabric of a 300-year old weavers cottage. It has been lovingly restored to create a beautiful artisan cottage. Located right in the heart of the town's conservation area, at the top of Catherine Hill, Niddy Noddy provides a perfect base from which to explore the cobbled streets of this vibrant town and the beautiful surrounding countryside. There are restaurants, bars, cafes and shops within moments of the cottage, yet Niddy Noddy is tucked away on a quiet pedestrian street. The cottage comfortably sleeps a maximum of four adults in two bedrooms - both with king size beds. One of the bedrooms has a zip/link bed, so can be made up as twin beds if you let us know when you book. Otherwise we will automatically make it up as a king. There is one bedroom and the family bathroom on the first floor and a further bedroom and en-suite shower on the second floor (there is a floorplan in the pictures for you to view). On the ground floor there is a compact kitchen and cosy living room with restored wooden panelling and a comforting gas fire. A dining table seats four people. It's a great space to sit by the fire and listen to some vinyl. We are also very family friendly. There is a highchair in the cottage and we can provide a comfy travel cot and other baby facilities to help lighten your load! We don't count babes-in-arms as additional guests, but please do let us know if you are bringing a baby with you so we can provide the correct number of towels and set up the travel cot. Visit our website or follow us on social media - Niddy Noddy Frome
Frome is a must-see for vintage treasure seekers, those that like shopping from independent makers, not impersonal chain stores, and people who appreciate good food. Niddy Noddy is at the top of the iconic Catherine Hill. Please be aware that Frome is a very hilly town! Frome is regularly cited as one of the best places to live in the country. This review from the Food Bugle says it all: "St. Catherine’s Hill has turned into one of the South West’s most popular shopping destinations. For artisanal wares, antiques, vintage clothes, haberdashery, hardware, the old, the original and the unusual, it is very rare to find anywhere quite like it in the world. For quality, service and charm it beats Portobello Road in London hands down. It is a creative, bohemian alley: a firm rebuttal to the bland and boring high streets now monopolised by huge brands." Frome is a family friendly place and there are a number of brilliant activities nearby. Our guests tend to visit: - Longleat Safari Park, which is five miles from Frome - Historic Bath, 13 miles from Frome. There is a direct train which chugs along through quaint little villages and by the River Avon - Stonehenge is 23 miles away and has a brilliant new visitor centre - There are many National Trust properties in the South West, including Stourhead (12 miles) which has a Palladium mansion and stunning gardens - The internationally acclaimed Hauser & Wirth art gallery is in Bruton (11 miles). It has exhibition rooms and large gardens and spaces for kids to play. It is also home to the yummy Roth Bar and Grill - In Shepton Mallet (12 miles) you will find the Mulberry outlet shop, along with Kilver Court Designer Outlet Village The Frome Independent Market is held on the first Sunday of every month from March to December. This market takes over the whole town like a mini festival, with music, events, food and a pop up village green!
  • Niddy Noddy cottage is a lovely place to stay in Frome! We definitely recommend it. The cottage is absolutely sweet in a pretty little cobbled street just off Catherines Hill. It's really peaceful and quiet despite it's central location and stylishly decorated too. We found it a really comfortable base for our family mini-break with our 5 year old daughter. It had all the facilities we needed, the beds were comfortable and everything spotlessly clean. We appreciated the local recommendations folder that Rowena had provided and really enjoyed browsing around the shops in the local area and checking out some of the restaurants and cafes in Frome. I'm sure we'll be back!

    Ruth2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We know Frome well having visited family lots and were excited to stay here as it is in a brilliant location in the middle of town on a lovely cobbled street. It lived up to our expectations and more. It’s a charming little cottage and we enjoyed sitting in front of the fire in the evening. Frome is an absolute gem of a place and Niddy Noddy is the perfect place to stay!

    Clementine2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The aptly Niddy Noddy Cottage is a delightful little cottage, in a fantastic location, right in the heart of Frome. We had a perfect few days, hunkering down from the worst of Storm Dennis, in a very cosy and well specified cottage. A particularly nice touch was the owner calling us ahead of our arrival, asking if we wanted to arrive early, to avoid the worst of the storm. We also very much appreciated the little basket of goodies on our arrival. Another fun element was the record player and a stack of records, which generated a lot of fascination from our eldest son and provided a great soundtrack to rain enforced board games. Thanks for a great stay!

    Guy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cutest little cottage, good for a family of four, right in the middle of charming Frome: you couldn’t get a better location. (Note: not for anyone who couldn’t cope with the original steep spiral staircase). Because the cottage is small, the kitchen space is limited, so banquet cooking is probably not a good idea, but it’s got all the basics and Frome has some amazing restaurants within 2 minutes walk. A gas woodstove makes the living room cosy in minutes and the house is beautifully decorated, the beds are comfy, the house sparkling clean, the soaps and handcream smell yummy (and you can buy them from the amazing pub in Wells). Rowena is a great host, really communicative and helpful. We had a lovely stay.

    Tia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Niddy Noddy cottage is a beautiful house and was perfectly sized for the four of us (2 couples). A well executed blend of an old, historic house with a warm, cosy decor and brand new kitchen and bathrooms. I especially enjoyed the shower and the excellent and diverse record collection! Froome is full of lovely restaurants, bars and cute little shops. We went on a historic walking tour of the town and were very proud that the collection of cottages including Niddy Noddy was a spot on the tour! After only 2 nights we were very sad to leave but hope to visit again soon :) Thank you Rowena! ps. Thank you for the Christmas tree and the fairy lights!

The overwhelming majority of our guests have said that they love the location of the apartment being so close to shops, pubs and restaurants. In the apartment, we offer: a king size bed (including an award-winning hybrid mattress). The shower room is accessed from the bedroom only. There is also complimentary Netflix on the smart TV. There is unrestricted parking on neighbouring residential roads and a Mendip District Council Badcox car park in the next road to the property which is free from 6 pm to 9am. You can park for 45 mins. literally behind the apartment in the Co-op car park.
The Badcox area of Frome is a vibrant residential neighbourhood on the very fringe of Frome town centre. It boasts many takeaway restaurants and pubs. It is notably on The Frome Heritage Trail which is a circular walk marked by numbered plaques. Starting at the Frome Bridge, the route focuses on the architectural and industrial heritage of Frome.

This is a very private bedroom with en-suite shower room. You could almost say you had your own wing of the house, but we won't, as that sounds far too grandiose and pretentious! There's no one above or below you, and the room is accessed from a private staircase. Continental breakfast is provided for you to dine at your convenience in your room. We are located within easy walking distance of everything Frome has to offer, so simply park your car in our off street parking and explore!
You've basically got your own place. Enter through the front door, unburden your coats in the spacious hallway, then hang a right up the private staircase and after that, it's all yours! The very spacious room was built as an extension whilst we were renovating and restoring the rest of our 1930s home. It was designed specifically with guests in mind, as you are essentially split off from the rest of the house, with your own en-suite shower room, WIFI, Smart TV, digital Roberts radio, fridge, kettle, toaster and mini breakfast bar. Music is a big part of our lives, and we have curated a selection of vinyl for you to enjoy in your room on the sleek record player. No need to worry about missing breakfast here.....simply wake up and dine in your room whenever it suits you, in your PJs if you wish! Breakfast consists of crumpets, yogurts, muesli, granola, tea, coffee (filter and instant) and orange juice to set you up for the day. Our guests tell us that the bed is very comfy and the room is peaceful, with views over the rooftops of the many historic houses in this part of Frome, as well as a grandstand view of the bucolic Frome & Selwood Bowls Club right next door.
If you're looking at the page, you probably already have a good idea of what to expect from the glorious and resurgent little town of Frome - constantly named as one of the best places to live in the UK. But whether it's your first time, or if you visit often, we are always very happy to suggest some of those little "insiders tips" on the best spots to seek out. We adore our town, and want you to get that same sense of magic which we still get from it.
  • I kind of don't want to recommend this room as it's such a diamond of a place. Even better than advertised and it looks pretty damn good! Needless to say, we'll be returning (as long as you'll have us; & there's a availability!)

  • If we’re in Frome again we’d book to stay here in a heartbeat. We can’t say enough, everything was great. We arrived late on Friday (after 11pm) and Rowena was really accommodating and wanted to make sure we could find the house. We stayed over the weekend of the Independent Market (first Sunday of the month) which was great. We loved the decor and what they’d done with the space. We even went and bought one of the prints in town. Breakfast was to do it yourself and suited us, with fresh orange and milk topped up. We spent one afternoon relaxing at the apartment and went and bought some vinyl to make use of the turntable (we’ll be getting our own now). Thanks for everything Rowena, we had the best time made in part to your hospitality.

    Emma2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend for a visit to beautiful Somerset and Frome! Rowena was an excellent host, her recommendations were great and the breakfast bits were thoroughly enjoyed each morning - such a thoughtful touch! The room is spacious and really cute, clean and comfortable! It feels almost like its own place as it is quite separate from the house. The location is a short walk into town and also on the edge of the village for easy access to the countryside, it was perfect for what we needed! Thanks again!

    Ashton2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful, comfortable, stylish space. Great location, with Frome town only a short walk away and yet removed from the hubbub of the main streets. Everything you could want/need is provided in the room - all very thoughtfully presented. Rowena is a very friendly and helpful host.

  • Private apartment above Rowenas double garage . We were greeted by Rowena s husband , who gave us valuable tips on places to go and to eat. The apartment is a very easy short stoll to Frome centre, but set back from the road , so is quiet . . The apartment is very private and stylish . Delicious breakfast of crumpets, granola , juice plus teas and coffee .we d love to stay again sometime.

  • Lisa’s pad is great, very spacious....bed is insanely comfortable, it’s the space that really resonates though, that was a definite positive. And the view is lovely. Lisa is happy, smiley and ever helpful... P...

  • We found Lisa's property to be a perfect resting point during our visit to Longleat Safari Park. The self check-in suited our itinerary, and Lisa was flexible and easy to get in contact with. She also made sure to give us extra advice to help us find the property in the dark which was much appreciated. She always responded to our messages promptly. The property itself was stylish, comfortable, and cozy. While the bed structures did have a noticeable frame, it was simple to sleep comfortably to one side of it and not an issue for us at all. The only thing we'd note is that the bathroom does not have a door to shut, just a curving partial wall for privacy. Overall we were quite pleased with our stay and would recommend it.

Beautiful family suite, located close to the conservation area of central Frome (5 mins from the top of Catherine Hill) You couldn't be better located to browse the independent shops and cafes in Frome, and if you can tear yourself away, its a perfect base for exploring the West Country. It does not include a kitchen, but does include a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities (plus breakfast!)
This glorious reimagining of one of Frome's oldest buildings is an utter delight. Beautifully comfortable and incredibly stylish, this apartment is offered to stay at a reasonable rate, and within walking distance of Frome's bustling centre, filled with independent shops and eateries. Minimising our impact on the environment is hugely important to us, and as such, the apartment is cleaned using natural cleaning products. All the toiletries are organic, sourced from a local independent shop, and using no plastic whatsoever. We'll leave you breakfast, some locally sourced milk, homemade treats and everything you might need for a relaxing stay in Frome. If you book for more than a week, we'll also provide you with a welcome hamper. This suite can be combined with the one bedroom apartment to sleep between 4 - 8
If you're already considering Frome for a visit, undoubtedly you're already sold on its obvious charms. Frome is packed with independent shops, beautiful eateries, wonderful friendly people and stunning architecture. Its a pretty bloody great place, with an independent council, cracking music scene and monthly festival like market, thats more like a street party. Its pretty special.
  • Well worth the money and nicely located in Frome. Would suggest.

  • A lovely little suite off a quiet courtyard, away from the road but with parking close by. The room was very nicely decorated, with some very attractive traditional features. It was spotlessly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Location could not have been better - a short walk to the centre of the town. The weather was terrible while we were there, but it didn't matter because the room was such a cosy little retreat. Communication was great, and check-in easy. Overall, highly recommended.

  • Mike and Celia are absolutely lovely, warm and wonderful people. I felt instantly at home and one of the family. I was able to fully relax and felt looked after and cared for by them, they had lots of helpful tips and guidance about places to go to in Frome, delicious shared meals in the evenings, deeply nourishing experience in the wood fired sauna, and brilliant engaging conversation. The room is cosy, bright and private, and the whole house is very homely, quirky, warm and beautiful. I recommend this place to all!

This is a small but comfortable bedroom which has one or two single beds (depending on your needs). There's plenty of space with just one bed and fine for longer stays, with 2 beds it is adequate for 1 or 2 nights but tight for space. For groups of 3 or 4 people, or 2 people wishing to have separate rooms, there is also a double room (see listing Ecologist's House Double Room for details and photo) with a small double bed. In that room there is space for a child or toddler in a travel cot.
The room is in my 3 bedroomed eco-refurbished 1960s town house, in a quiet location. All communal facilities are shared. There's usually two rooms available. This room is small with one (or two if necessary) single bed(s) and another (Ecologist's House 2, Double Room) with a small double bed with a comfy memory mattress. For two people travelling together you have the choice of having separate rooms but need to book separately for each one. The double room is also large enough for a travel cot. If you just want the double room please book via that listing. There is no charge for babies/toddlers in their own travel cot.
Frome is a great town with lots of old buildings, cafes, pubs, good live music scene, two theatres, independent cinema and massive market once a month (1st Sunday between Mar-Dec). My house is on an ordinary 1960's estate in a diverse, friendly community. It is 15-20 mins walk from and on the south side of town, on the top of a hill in a quiet location off road. There are views of countryside from my house (and I have a good view of sunsets over the town) but it also overlooks other houses. My house is on Sustrans Cycle Route 24 which runs from Bath through Radstock, Frome, Warminster and Salisbury to join with National Route 23 at Eastleigh in Hampshire. Longleat is 3 miles away by bike and in 2 minutes (walking) you are on the very edge of the town into open countryside beside the River Frome, where there are public footpaths through fields. There is a Sainsbury's Supermarket a couple of minutes away by car or 5 mins by bike. Asda is about 4 minutes by car and downhill on the bike so also minutes away. (steep hill). My house is in a great location from the point of view of convenience and relative tranquility being sufficiently close to many amenities, whether shops, supermarkets, cycle routes, proximity to open countryside and public transport options, while being situated away from the road. It is not, however, in a fashionable part of town, although close to conservation areas and the old village of Keyford (minutes away).

*** An imposing special home in a very private and secluded setting *** Here's your chance to be Lord or Lady of the Manor! Set within a local preservation area, within several acres of its own private landscaped gardens. The house is a Grade II listed treasure and is the last remaining intact manor in Frome. Enough bragging! We don't live in the house, so it is perfectly set up for large groups to be together or splinter off and disappear into little areas for quiet contemplation or proper human chats without social media! Nestled in it's own little valley, on the edge of the beautiful market town of Frome. This 400 year old Elizabethan mansion is hidden behind tall stone walls within its own parkland like landscaped gardens. Entry is via a sweeping gravel driveway flanked by huge 300 year old beech trees. It can be booked in conjunction with the Coach House (see photo's) which is on the grounds (see property below) to sleep a further 8 to 9 guests in luxury. All 9 bedrooms in Manor have window seats offering views over the lovely gardens. Many bedrooms offer wash basin and shower and the larger ones have writing desks and seating. The Manor has magnificent interiors with fine decor; gold leaf, oil paintings, tapestries, oak panelling, busts, wall hangings. The large central staircase glides up 3 floors with impressive galleried landings. In the lounge a giant chess table and pieces, plus secret passageways and cupboards. There is a stone flagged patio with pub style benches to seat 20 next to a commercial sized BBQ, you will need to supply charcoal and implements. There is croquet lawn, victorian gazebo (not covered) and an ornamental pond plus fountain. Near the west wing is an original underground bomb shelter which was twice the size but has been partly bricked up for safety and then themed as a nineteen forties living room. Many regular guests gave us WW2 treasures to put inside. This 400 year old house boasts many original features including 500 year old oak beams which used to come from old galleon tall ships. You can still see where the ribs of the ships fitted into the beams. There are many amusing items like a novelty double base which opens up as a cocktail cabinet in the music room. In the Lounge a grandfather clock concealing a music system, open the base door and control music to the lounge and dining room. Below the grand staircase you will find a cupboard which contains a humorous doll size living room with doll sized period furniture, people kept pinching the dolls so we glazed it over so please do not try and crawl inside. Whilst preserving the features we have installed modern technology as much as we can; automatic ventilation in bathrooms, sensor lighting which comes on and off as you enter communal rooms, push button electric gates, digital keyless entry. It's not your usual cold draughty Manor, there is central heating in every room including corridors. All bedrooms have double four poster beds except the music room (9th bedroom) which has a pulldown double bed which can be pushed up and the room can be used as a function room for pre-dinner drinks as it is next to the lounge and dining room. All the bedrooms are themed. Eg pictures, ornaments, books etc all revolve around the theme. Eg there is the Ship Bedroom with model ships dotted around and a ships bell on the wall. There is the Teddy Bedroom which boasts over 80 cute little teddy bears dressed to perfection in different outfits (doctor, policeman, nurse, chef etc). We started collecting these and things got out of hand! There’s a dog room, cat room, ladies room, music room etc etc. The bedrooms range from average to huge with two bedrooms having and extra single bed in it plus a further pullout bed underneath. The house is ideally situated a few minutes from Longleat, half an hour from the Royal Spa City of Bath. The beautiful grounds of Stourhead make a lovely day out in all seasons, Wookey Hole is very popular too. We just love the place and we hope you do too! T O U R: Lobby: After entering through a large wooden entrance door you are greeted by a modest lobby with panelled ceiling, gold leaf chairs, tables with fittings, wall hangings and framed oil paintings start with a style that is continued throughout the house. At the end is the grand staircase, this impressive galleried oak staircase ascends to two more floors which contain six more bedrooms which all overlook the grounds. Library: On the first floor you will find the panelled library, it's not huge so don't be over expectant. It has an extensive wall to wall book collection and large decorative ancient bibles. A reading desk overlooks the west side and sets the mood. We used to provide board games but the bits were always going missing so we suggest you bring some, who doesn't love scrabble or monopoly? Drawing Room / Lounge: Many years ago, before our time, the drawing room was opened up to the lounge, this now offers a large open plan living room which is great for large social gatherings. Large Elizabethan style thrones face each other across an oversized chess board coffee table with hand carved giant chess pieces. See if you can find the secret door in the panelling that leads to the central staircase. At the lounge end, leather chesterfield sofas which we arranged in a horse shoe shape around four coffee tables. Another large throne (for her ladyship or his lordship of course) is strategically placed. The room boasts two original inglenook fireplaces and original 400 year old Tudor rose embellished plaster ceilings. Several window seats provide views over the lawns, central to these is an authentic Manor House "must have" an ornamental full size suit of armour. Sorry, an original costs thousands, but it looks the part and is good for a selfie. Please don't drag it to the garden or downtown (I've seen the face book picture!) as I am on my second one and can't get any more. Dining Room: A magnificent room. The main features of the dining room are the walk-in fireplace with original bread oven. Remember that this was the original kitchen where everything was done around this giant fireplace. The mahogany block floor was put in by the fabulous Victorians and has been lovingly restored. An enormous rosewood dining table with central tier for displaying food sets this dining room apart. Unlike traditional long tables where guest at one end can't see or hear guests at the other - this huge square shape table allows 18 guests to see and interact with each other at one table. You can squeeze more in if they sit at the corners but it is admittedly quite a squeeze. You can seat 4 more in the room at the servery tables around the edge. The rich red walls are adorned with wall tapestries, drapes, torches, flintlock guns, and ornamental animal heads (not real). This room is just ideal for a banquet, murder mystery party, medieval feast or simple get together meal. Kitchen: Suitably located near the Dining Room is a farmhouse style kitchen that is well equipped and large enough to prepare a five course meal for twenty. Matching rosewood cabinetry has been overlaid with red granite to provide plenty of nice clean work surfaces. A large but simple to operate six burner gas range and double oven for cooking with overhead extraction. The kitchen has pleasant views over the small enclosed back garden, ideal for monitoring the smaller children or the dogs in confinement from the Manors main sprawling grounds. Be careful to show them the spiky privets which we allow to grow for security. Breakfast Room / Pantry: Just around the corner and you'll find the breakfast room, don't get excited, it's very small, but has an "L" shaped breakfast bar seating three people, matching rosewood cabinets containing a generous array of crockery, pans, dishes etc many in a six foot shelved cupboard displaying almost everything in one area at a glance. A large group friendly fridge is kept here as it was too big to get in the kitchen. Utility Kitchen: Continue through the pantry past the second downstairs W/C and into a second utility type kitchen. It's quite small but more functional with large catering style splash backs. It is in this kitchen that you find the freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, another microwave and kettle, iron, ironing board, brushes, mop and bucket etc. It is an ideal place for outside caterers to organize their food, or to chuck all the messy dishes for later keeping the main kitchen clean. Games Room: Opposite the second kitchen is the games room a compact room with air hockey and darts (behind the door) and giant jenga (sometimes kept under the servery in the Dining Room. We couldn't squeeze any more in here as we had to fill it with laundry cabinets so the bedding was kept dry and warm. Hopefully it's enough to entertain children and 'the older boys' of the group. Music Room: Opposite the Lounge, the Music Room is decorated with a music theme, all the instruments in this room are ornamental eg please don't wrench them off the walls for a session! A window seat next to the piano overlooks the driveway. There is a central chandelier and stone fireplace. The double bass / cocktail cabinet is in here. This room is ideal for pre dinner drinks and when night comes a double bed, hidden inside a panelled wall, pulls down to instantly convert this room back into a bedroom if you need a ninth bedroom. West Wing: From the music room you can access the ground floor of the west wing. Along a corridor and into the rear lobby is the old servants' quarters. From here you will find a double bedroom and bathroom. Just like the other bedrooms, this bedroom has a view of the gardens and a double four poster bed. The bathroom is fitted with a traditional looking but modern slipper bath, separate shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet. The dark wood panelled ceiling does make it quite dark. If like us, you will probably find yourself just standing and staring at things on the walls that you hadn't seen the other day. We found tons of artifacts in the huge loft and cleaned them up and put them out. It makes for a very interesting and memorable stay. We see many guests return year after year wanting to do it again. Seeing grand old beautiful buildings being brought back to life and hearing of people enjoying these yesteryear treasures is our passion and we hope that you will leave the house with fond memories and just a little twinkle ; ) Ok, that's everything I hope. It's a lovely house with a lovely warm spirit. Relax, have some fun and enjoy yourself! Below is some info about the bedrooms ..... • What an amazing house, with great facilities and so much space for large groups. The garden is great for playing games and there are lots of bedrooms and bathrooms.

  • Wow, what a gem of a place. The lion, the witch and the wardrobe came to mind on entering this house. We came to the UK for business and pleasure. The pleasure part was to spend time with our families. Staying at the Manor afforded us the space to all be under one roof with quality time and that is what we got. We loved cooking in the place because we had everything we needed to put a grand meal on the table. On arrival I expected to Manor to be on the cold side, it's a big place to heat, but it was toasty warm. Our hosts had the foresight to put the heating on and make it welcoming. The hot showers were superb with amazing water pressure, well done. There was no shortage of instructions of how and where to find and operate everything. There is a grocery store within walking distance and an easy walk into the beautiful town of Frome. Would I come back to this property, we are already considering our return for next year. Thank you Adrian and Claire

  • We hired both the manor and the coach house for a birthday celebration and had a fantastic time. The Airbnb description doesn’t do the house justice - it’s a gothic Alice in Wonderland house of curiosities, full of unusual artifacts and surprises in every nook & cranny! It’s walking distance to all the shops & restaurants in Frome so easy to get to by train. The owners were very helpful & super-quick to answer queries.

    Kaye2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had a lovely and fun week at Adrian’s and Claire’s. I recommend it big time for a large group of people for a weekend get away!

    Kelly2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in this fantastic quirky house for a hen party. There was loads of space and everyone enjoyed exploring the different rooms and extra bits. Adrian and Claire were very responsive and happy to answer any questions we had about the house and local services. The level of information provided about the house definitely exceeded that provided elsewhere. It's perfectly located for Frome and close to the station for anybody travelling by train. I would definitely recommend this place for large gatherings.

  • A quirky duo of properties - perfect for a murder mystery. My guildies loved the atmosphere. Location made it a great base for exploring the area - Bath, Wookey Hole etc. Excellent and friendly communication. Super hosts!

  • This house is brilliantly bonkers! We stay in large house every Feb half term and, hands down, this is the best value we have found in 20 years. Like Bagpuss, its a bit saggy, baggy and loose at the seams, but it is hundreds of years old and dripping with quirky charm. The house was warm, clean and well equipped. Most guests reported comfy beds and the kitchen was well equipped. Frome is 15 mins walk and good for a potter. Lots of lovely walks. We would return without hesitation.

    Liz2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic house for big groups. Quirky and cosy. We had a great time!

This gorgeous little two bedroom cottage is in the perfect spot for a visit to Frome. The front door opens straight onto Catherine Hill, a lovely cobbled street right in the heart of Frome crammed with quirky cafes, interesting shops and great restaurants. The cottage is full of history, built in the 1700s and formerly a bakery. It sleeps up to four, in one double room and one twin room.
The cottage has a cosy sitting room that looks out onto Catherine Hill and is a great place to relax after a day out exploring. There's a small TV and wifi is also available. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need including a dishwasher. Upstairs is a cosy twin bedroom that looks out over Catherine Hill and a stylish bathroom with walk-in shower. The crowning glory of the cottage is a lovely double bedroom with king size bed and double doors opening onto the sunny, secluded courtyard. The walled courtyard has a table and chairs so you can sit out and enjoy the sunshine, and is a relaxing, peaceful spot despite being right in the centre of Frome.
Frome is a great place for a get-away. It’s a lovely town, full of charm and character, crammed with independent shops, cafes and music venues as well as the famous Frome Independent market on the first Sunday of every month between March and December. There’s also plenty to explore further afield. Nearby are the villages of Nunney, with its ruined medieval castle, and Mells which has a lovely café and pub. Also within a short drive are the Longleat estate and safari park and the cities of Bath and Bristol.
  • We had a lovely stay at Angela’s cottage. Spotlessly clean, and in a great location for exploring Frome. Lots of great bars and restaurant within a couple of minutes walk.

  • Just perfect - thank you

  • We had a great weekend in this fabulous cosy cottage. The place was really clean and comfortable, and could not be in a better location for exploring Frome. Angela was a great host and provided some great local tips too. Highly recommended and would stay again. Thank you!

  • Angela’s place is absolutely faultless! We had such a great stay here, the beds are extremely comfortable and the place feels so homely. Location is perfect, can walk to countless cafes and pubs - we will definitely be visiting here again!

    Laura2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is excellent- clean, well furnished, well equipped and in a great central location- open the front door and there is the market on Catherine Hill. Beds were comfortable, shower was great and communication with host was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this Airbnb- We were able to find an on road parking space in Weymouth Road as advised which was about a 10 minute walk away. We left car there from Saturday to Monday with no issues. It is an uphill walk back to it.

Former coach house of historic 17th century inn transformed into a stylish, double-height living space, made cosy with underfloor heating and wood burning stove. Sleeps 4, one double room with en suite bathroom plus a twin bedroom, high spec shower/wet room. Craftsman kitchen. Light and airy, yet comfortable interior space, looking out onto miraculously quiet courtyard with arbour seating. Step out from the courtyard to famous artisan and vintage shopping, plus elegant cafes, on Catherine Hill.
It has to be seen to be understood. Wow factor high! Minimal furnishing, yet comfortable. Combination of contemporary and artisan features with original Fontana lighting. Free wifi plus TV (and home cinema projection if requested in advance). Things we worry about: children bouncing on beds or operating the wood burner.
Several local restaurants, such as The High Pavement (Friday and Saturday nights only. Two sittings. Booking essential) and River House, are highly recommended and Sam's Kitchen is very popular and open all day/evening - all walkable. Several local pubs recommended (The Three Swans, The Archangel, The Griffin) and walking distance from us. Art galleries at Rook Lane and The Black Swan, exhibitions and musical events at The Silkmill. All walkable. Cooper Hall (5 minutes by car) offers regular classical concerts. The Cheese and Grain has a live band most weekends and offers a variety of market events on Saturdays. A new, 3-screen cinema is now open. Merlin Theatre (5 minutes by car) live-streams from the NT and RSC, plus live drama.
  • Emily was a brilliant host and the property went beyond our expectations. Very well equipped, warm and spacious but still extremely cosy. Beds were incredibly comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely.

    Hannah2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation in a great location. Suited us and our 2 year old well!

    Graham2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • A bright, airy space with a lovely contemporary feel set in an old building. Having both a bath and shower is a real bonus. Comfy beds. Good lighting. Practical cooking space with dishwasher and nice gas cooker but perhaps too small a fridge. No washing machine to bear in mind for those staying longer than a weekend. No drying space for wet clothes other than shower room. But Emily was more than happy to help out with her own washing machine. Delightful courtyard for eating outside. Fantastically convenient to local shops and quick walk into Frome down Catherine’s Hill. We loved it and will return. For sure. Frome has so much going for it.

    Lisa2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful stay at Emily's place. The photos don't do the property justice, and we were blown away when we walked in! Emily was there to meet us, and was really fast to reply to any questions - she even left us a bottle of prosecco as we had just got married, which was a lovely touch! The log burner plus a glass of fizz - perfect! Will definitely be back next time we're in Frome.

    Sarah2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space - very well designed and brilliant location.

    Tom2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A unique place to stay with a warm welcome. Within minutes of local amenities in Frome including lots of independent shops/galleries.

    J2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great little oasis hidden away from which to explore the surrounding area.Shops, restaurants all very near. Longleat, Stourhead, Stonehenge and Bath very commutable from here. The town itself is worth spending time strolling around. Parking easy. Emily has created a great space to stay!

Price for ENTIRE Property *** Large discount due to last minute cancellation *** Four-poster beds in all 4 bedrooms, 3 of which have showers and basin. It's big: 4 showers, 2 toilets and 2 communal areas. Very recently modernised with all new equipment and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. Bedding and towels are laundered by a hotel supply company so crisp white sheets and quilts covers and nice big white towels like a hotel. Parking on the grounds for 6 cars
*** An imposing special home in a very private and secluded setting *** If you are looking for something a bit different, if you like Harry Potter sets or quirky buildings then this maybe your thing. Set within the stunning landscaped gardens of the Manor this cottage is deceptively large (the main picture cuts off half the house on the left). It has it's own private entrance from a quiet back lane. Formerly used by the Elizabethan Manor next door as stables and carriage storage, it has since been transformed into a warm and inviting house to accommodate 'old nags' of the human kind ! It is a superb group get together house sleeping 8 in lovely period style surroundings with big king sized, four-poster beds in all 4 bedrooms, 3 of which are en-suite (shower, wash basin, no toilet). There are no Keys! (Digital keypad entry), automated electric gates. Bedding and towels are provided for 4 beds / 8 guests. Not cramped like most cottages as it has a huge barn-style open plan dining / living room. This is great for whole group togethers. A large inglenook fireplace conceals a large flat screen TV which at the flick of the switch (play DVD) appears to be a crackling log fire to the delight of many of our guests. It's not your usual cold drafty cottage, there is central heating in every room including corridors and it's lovely and toasty in winter and very cool in summer due to the tree shade and massively thick stone walls. Period style bathroom with a modern clean feel features a roll top slipper bath plus modern shower cubicle. Four quality power showers throughout. The 4th bedroom has it's own shower located in the main bathroom. The kitchen has been well thought out, once one of the smaller stables, the horses have since been encouraged to move! The original red brick walls have been blasted back and preserved and some of the original stable gates have been cleaned up and used as shelving. It is open plan to dining room and lounge so you don't feel cut off. It boasts a large double oven with 6 burner professional gas range. It's well appointed with all mod cons inc washing machine, dishwasher, 5 foot tall fridge, separate under counter freezer, kettle, microwaves, toaster etc. It retains many period features such as an ancient well which we uncovered during resurfacing of the old courtyard. Don't worry as this well has a protective permanent grate on it so the kids (or inebriated friends) can't fall into it if they are 'horsing' around (very pleased with that pun). There are beautiful slate flagstone floors throughout the ground floor which have been lovingly restored and sealed. We just love the place and we hope you do too! WANT TO KNOW MORE? The old Coach House is completely hidden behind tall hedges and stone walls, some dating as far back as the 16th century. The Coach House is the perfect holiday retreat in an atmosphere of better days gone by. TOUR: Through tall automatic electric gates the driveway sweeps round into the old stable yard. The yard is quite small so don't get too excited. Set within a Local Preservation Area this impressive cottage was recently revamped with emphasis on the needs of large groups self catering. Entrance into the house is through a gabled porch into the lobby which is the centre of the house from which all rooms can be accessed. Here, an open balustrade staircase leads to a small galleried landing leading to three of the four bedrooms. With central chandelier and a window seat overlooking the magnificent 400-year-old trees of the Manor. On the ground floor a tapestry style panelled corridor leads to the ground floor bedroom, main Bathroom / toilet and further separate toilet. Under the staircase used to house the hoover and mop bucket (stay with me ........) it is now is a lovely folly room with doll sized period furniture much to the amusement of children and adults alike. People kept crawling inside pretending they were a giant for a selfie, so sadly we removed the dolls and the temptation, sorry! Each of the four double bedrooms is furnished with King sized four poster beds and period furniture. Tastefully decorated with tapestry panelling, stone walls and stripped oak style clean laminate flooring. It is easy to keep clean and more hygienic than carpet but we still suggest you bring slippers or flip flops especially for the flagstone floors downstairs. There are dual aspect windows in most bedrooms with window seats overlooking the trees. Two of the bedrooms have modern door-less shower areas and wash basin. For the infirm there is a large ground floor bedroom with a cubicle shower and wash basin. This large bedroom contains a grandfather clock, dressing table and been conveniently located next to the main bathroom and toilet. There are a number of steps to get to this and nowhere is suitable for wheelchairs sorry. The main bathroom is decorated with period style but modern and hygienic wipe down textured panelling. It has a period style slipper bath with feet, a modern sleek power shower cubicle sits flush in one of the walls. The main feature of the house is the huge open plan, barn style living area with high beamed ceilings and exposed roof trusses. This oversized lounge opens to the dining area and continues through to the kitchen. You could be cooking at one end of the building and look right through to the lounge / dining room at other end. One side of the room features an original stone wall draped with tapestries, whilst the other side is timber clad. The old coach doors have been replaced with modern but complimenting double glazed French doors that open the room onto the raised sun terrace. The inglenook fireplace now holds a large flat screen television, which at the push of a button becomes a roaring log fire. The whole room is graced with six Gothic style chandeliers (sadly this is not an honest boast as the house is a little dark and so needs that many, the furniture is mostly dark wood and the high ceilings are also dark wood). Three leather chesterfield sofas are positioned in a sociable horse shoe shape with movable coffee tables. This allows every guest to be seated together to watch the television, converse or play family board games. Furniture comprises of a striking grandfather clock, solid rosewood cabinets and matching glazed tall display cabinet which lights up at night. A rustic rosewood dining table with matching chairs all conveniently located near the kitchen. At the far end of this huge room you will find yourself in a modern farmhouse themed kitchen, with wall to wall sleek granite style worktops and double sink. We did away with cupboards in preference for open shelves underneath so you can find everything at a glance. We put a lot of thought into this property as it was all designed around large groups self catering. There's a large but simple six burner gas range which allows for feasts to be prepared for the whole group. There are dual microwaves, washing machine etc giving all the creature comforts of home. Hopefully the full size dishwasher eradicates the usual who's turn is it argument! The recent restoration to this large holiday house has allowed the very latest technology to be been utilised. You will find few light switches in communal areas. These rooms light up automatically as you enter and switch off when there's no presence. We used to have switch-less touch lamps in the bedrooms but some guest thought they were faulty and some even thought there were ghosts ! In the bathroom automatic lighting of course and sensors engage air extraction. Outside, due to the expanse of the Manors grounds, a vast array of birds flock to the estates huge array of trees. The grounds come alive in the morning with the tweeting and chirping of birds going about their daily business. The Coach House grounds are quite small and mostly gravelled so don't get too excited. There is a pub style bench and a big catering sized BBQ (you will need to supply charcoal and implements). We have done our best but it is not a garden as such once the cars are all parked there (I don't want to get your hopes up). If like us, you will probably find yourself just standing and staring at things on the walls that you hadn't seen the other day. We found tons of artefacts in the old Manor next door and we cleaned them up and put them out. It makes for a very interesting and memorable stay. We see many guests return year after year wanting to do it again. Seeing old buildings being brought back to life and hearing of people enjoying them is our passion and we hope that you will leave the house with fond memories. Ok, that's everything I hope. It's a grand old house with a lovely warm spirit. Relax, bond, recharge and find your old self again ! We'd love to hear how your stay went. Below is some info about the location ..... • Had a blast, great spot for a reunion with all the amenities and info we needed. We especially enjoyed the gated entrance and the surprise under the stairs!

  • Fantastic space. We were 4 adults and 4 children. The kids loved pretending to be in a magical castle house and spent the whole time in a fantasy. Very comfortable and had all we adults needed. A & C were quick to respond when I contacted them. A good location with shop near by. Would definitely recommend

  • The cottage was absolutely brilliant. Very spacious, beautifully kept and decorated with a very cozy, old English feel. It was very comfortable for all 6 adults and two young children in our group. Immaculately clean and came equipped with everything we could have needed during our stay. All instructions were clearly defined and made check in/ operating everything within the house very simple. Definitely a unique experience! Highly recommend!

  • We have just returned from spending Christmas in Frome at this lovely house. It has such a special feeling when staying there, perfect for larger families as the downstairs space means everyone is together but not cramped at all. The four double rooms were spacious and comfortable. We all slept so soundly as it was so peaceful and dark. I would certainly recommend this Airbnb to all!
