Places to stay in Front Royal

Places to stay in Front Royal
Our mountain retreat is close to the Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Appalachian Trail, Front Royal and Highway 66. You’ll love the coziness, location, nature and the tranquility. This large space is good for writers, solo adventurers and business travelers.
Our room is spacious and quiet. There is a desk, microwave, refrigerator, futon and coffee table to make you feel comfortable. Storage includes a wardrobe, utility closet, 2 night stands and 2 small rolling cabinets.
The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood on Apple Mountain. There are some steep inclines/declines getting to/from our house to the main road. All of these roads are paved and are easy to traverse. Our community has excellent snow removal if you are planning a winter stay. The last stretch of road leading to our house is gravel and level, as is our driveway which is paved. The Apple House Restaurant is 5 minutes away as are 2 gas stations and a 7-11. It is less than 10 minutes to Front Royal where there is plenty of shopping, restaurants and laundry mats. Our close proximity to 66 makes it easy to get to Winchester or Gainesville. The Shenandoah River and Appalachian Trail are minutes away. The Shenandoah National Park is 15 minutes away. There are also wineries and orchards 10 minutes away. In short, this where people living in the DC area come to recreate.
  • Mark and Arlene are great hosts. Everything was clean and the house is in a private neighborhood. The room was very comfortable and the shower has hot water. The little extras like the toaster/coffee maker/griddle and the mini fridge only add to the allure of this private mountain apartment. Excellent!

  • Great SPLACE. Great room and peaceful. Location secluded, but near highway!

  • Mark and Arlene are great hosts. They even put up black out curtains for this night shift nurse; very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Their home is beautiful and centrally located to most of the hospitals; about 30-35 minutes. I would stay again should I find myself back in the area.

  • Quiet, private, mountain top living. Excellent sunset views. Arlene & Mark are fun, friendly, accomodating hosts. I look forward to a future stay. 💙

  • Immaculately clean! The entry is very private with a beautiful view of the woods and mountain range. The bed is extremely comfortable; I was able to work nights and sleep peacefully during the day even with close access to the freeway. Mark and Arlene are wonderful hosts and will respond quickly to any questions you may have. Thanks for the great stay!!

  • Arlene and Mark have been nothing short of truly amazing. This was my first long term stay with Airbnb and I am so glad I got Mark and his wife Arlene as my hosts. From day one they were so accommodating to me, checked on me, communicated so well with me, and have truly made me feel as though I had a home away from home. I can't thank them enough for everything. A great example of their kindness and heart was when there was someone who wanted to stay about 2 weeks longer than me, but check in about 3 days later than me and I had just arrived in town (Winchester) on a Sunday for work to build a Solar PV Farm and I didn't have a place to stay. Mark and Arlene approved me to stay instead as I was already in town and I didn't have a place to stay. They didn't want to leave me without a home and took care of me when they could have opted to take the other guest as they wanted to stay longer and would have made more money. Truly blessed to have come across such great heart felt people and hosts. I will definitely be recommending them if I ever know of anyone who is planning on staying in the area or if I ever return :) On specifics of the place, their home is beautiful and located in the mountains. I love my drive everyday to work because it is such a beautiful site to see the lush green trees and distant mountains as I drive down the mountain. The place you stay in is even better in person than the pictures show. It is really spacious and I love how there is a sliding door access on the side of the house that allows you private access to your room without disturbing anyone and there is a code to get in which is nice because it saves the trouble of potentially losing a key. The space is located at the bottom of the house and to the right of the garage which allows you all the privacy you want if that is what you are looking for. The bed is really comfortable, the bathroom is really nice, and the decorations in the room are beautiful as it illustrates artwork from different places they have traveled. You cannot go wrong with booking this place. Great heart warming and welcoming hosts, a great spacious place, and an outstanding value!!! Again, thank you Mark and Arlene for everything. My stay here will not be forgotten.

Secluded neighborhood with house directly on the Shenandoah river. Private quarters with amazing views from your own deck and sun room. Long dirt road to access property. Cattle likely grazing throughout the road in.
The Shenandoah river is visible and easily accessible right from the door.
Mostly residents in the area because of the secluded back road to get here. It’s a peaceful getaway.

  • Very clean and comfortable. A lot of care and attention to detail have obviously been taken to make the house pleasant and attractive for visitors. The shower is amazing -- definitely not low-flow! No one was home during my brief overnight stay (check in at 8 pm, check out at 8 am), but check in instructions were clear and accurate, and Hala responded quickly via text to any questions I had. Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood, just a mile or two from Shenandoah, the downtown, and almost anywhere else you'd want to go in Front Royal. Thanks, Hala!

Exceeded expectations! Thank you, Hala.

Don't miss a day trip to Fort Valley and a hike to the Woodstock Tower or Signal Knob.
  • A wonderfully relaxing and peaceful experience in a serene and private location. Beautiful!

    Jayne2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My fiance and I booked a weekend getaway here for Valentine's Day, and we had a lovely time! Jennifer's place - the Farmhaus - was beautiful, comfortable, and cozy. The kitchen was fully stocked with supplies, so we were able to cook (we made pho!) and were able to store our own food in their fridge. The place was sparkling clean, including the bed, bathroom, and common area. The Farmhaus also gets really great light, especially during the day. Our plan was to check out the restaurants and distilleries in the area, and this place was close to so many great ones that weren't more than a 10-30min drive away. The Skyline Caverns are also nearby, and we got to visit those as well. Jennifer was super responsive and thoughtful, and it was great to have them next door in case we needed anything, though they did a great job of giving us our space. I'd definitely recommend this place!

    Jillian2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Farm Haus is beautiful retreat from the busyness of life! Jenn and her husband were so gracious - quickly coming to our rescue when we couldn't figure out how to turn on the heat...AND quickly contacting minutes after we left to let us know we had left a coat behind! SO grateful for their kindness and the opening of their home to us. Hope to visit again.

  • We loved our time at the Farm Haus. My four year old twice commented, "I like this house!!" I would recommend it to anyone. It's well styled, but not in an overbearing way. Soothing colors and cool touches throughout. It was very clean. The bedding was soft and the mattress was comfortable. It's in a peaceful setting with a mountain view and fantastic sunset. The hostess always responded right away to any questions. We'll be back for sure!!

  • This comfortable space worked out great for our week long stay in the area. Jennifer was quick to respond to questions.

TimberWend is a great get-away offering an unparalleled escape. It borders the Shenandoah National Park and overlooks one of the park's least visited waterfalls, Greasy Falls. It has a spectacular fifty-mile view on a clear day and the closest neighbor is one-half mile away.
The driveway to TimberWend is one-half mile long and is not plowed in the winter. SUV recommended. There is a locked gate at the entrance with a key box. Internet is via a satellite dish. It is a 5g system which should provide adequate speeds for most functions, but can be negatively affected by weather and high band width satellite usage. Cell phone service is available to AT&T customers through wifi calling. There is a land line for emergencies.
Our closest neighbor is one-half mile away. The forest is our neighbor and we like the quietness of the place. Very relaxing!
  • Loved our stay, Bess has put the most thoughtful touches into the house. The view was beautiful and the home was cozy, clean, and relaxing.

  • A little peace of heaven..so relaxing. Everything was so perfect!

  • This gorgeous cabin with its enormous picture windows and breathtaking views is a balm to the soul. It was just as described, perfectly clean, comfortable beds and unbeatable location next to the Shenandoah National Park. We were charmed by the little touches from gifted host Bess, who's very thoughtful and replies quickly to any questions. If you're looking for a place to rest, relax and find peace in nature, this is it!

    Coqui2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A homey, comfortable, and cozy cabin tucked away from the world. The cabin was very clean and had anything you could need, and if you did need anything else, the host was VERY hospitable. It’s about 20-30 minute drive to the nearest restaurant or town. Shenandoah National Park is right in the backyard, there’s a waterfall you can hear from the balcony... which was a fun and easy hike. The driveway was a little daunting, about 1/2 mile of bumpy terrain. Overall it was a great stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend off the grid!

    Madeline2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great mountain & forest escape. An incredibly cozy cabin, truly remote. Bess makes sure to stock the cabin full of all possible necessities for cooking, as well as a very nice selection for breakfast in the fridge. Went in the winter, it snowed the following day and you could see the frozen waterfall up close. For hiking, would recommend going onto Skyline drive and doing those hikes if you care more about getting to a nice view or peak. Nearby trails and hikes are nice too. Keep in mind that Google Maps may accidentally lead you to a driveway before the correct one. If you can't find it, or don't think you're at the right gate, keep driving on the road following the address numbers! The road was tackled by a Honda Fit (no snow). Bumpy, but okay as long as your car isn't a convertible or something. A very very nice stay for a couple, wifi is satellite based, so don't expect to stream movies, but there is a nice selection of blueray movies at the cabin. Incredibly cozy, would recommend :)

    Vasil2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking to get away from the city to recharge and enjoy the outdoors then this is the place for you. The cabin is completely secluded tucked away right up to the boundary of Shenandoah National Park. Bess also includes breakfast items (as others have mentioned) which is above and beyond what I have experienced at other Airbnbs. Great Experience!!

    Mike2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the perfect getaway! When you first walk in, you instantly notice how homey it feels. Bess has included many special little touches in the home to really allow you to settle in comfortably. We enjoyed the breathing views each day from the front porch and the beautiful waterfall to the side of the home. Bess left some breakfast foods in the fridge which we enjoyed. We also enjoyed some great DVD selections while enjoying warmth from the wood burning stove. Please take notice of feedback regarding the type of vehicle you need to manage the road leading to the home. We had an SUV and it was worth it for the drive. We would absolutely book this place again!

    Jessica2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is exactly what we wanted; cozy and secluded. And what a treat to have a waterfall visible from the living room window! If peace and quiet is what you are looking for then you will love this place.

The house is located at the top of Chester Gap and is only a 5 minute walk to the Appalachian trail. Attractions like Luray caverns, Skyline Drive (2.5 mile walk) the Shenandoah River, wineries and other local trails are around the area. And let’s not forget about the best burgers in Virginia: Spelunkers. We have two lovely and friendly cats named Lumière and Miss Potts
House is a cabin that has been built on to. A private bedroom and a bathroom are provided to the guests. Kitchen and general living area shared with the owners. However, we do not spend much time in your area so it has the feel of your own house. Also, the entrance is private.

This cozy small, very private, room has a double bed and room darkening shades. It is adjacent to it own private bathroom with shower and a luxurious warmed toilet seat. Three-way sconce lights on each side of bed, each with a convenient turn-off switch located for easy turn off/on from the bed. There is closet space for hanging clothes.
Cosy Rose Room at Vineyard Vista Country Getaway will allow a dog if guests will agree to keep them on lease and not leave them in the room when they are out. Dogs are welcome, but please do not ask to bring your dog if it is not house broken and you are not willing to wipe their feet every time they come inside. (Due to birds roaming freely the porches and yard.)
The charm of Vineyard Vista Country Getaway is the rural setting. On spring, summer and fall mornings it is relaxing to sit on the kitchen deck and watch peacocks strut, or if early enough watch the sun rise over the mountain while enjoying a cup coffee or special tea.
  • This is a perfect place to end a night of excitement and wonder in the city. The women that gives you the key is war hearted and makes you feel like you’re at home. Very clean and quiet location worth every penny of the very affordable price.

  • Went for a quick get away from the city and it was everything we hope for and more! We felt right at home the moment we arrived. Petsy's daughter, Susan, was helping host and she was so warm and shared some amazing stories about the area, and the history. The home is so cozy but also has some fun gadgets! We visited the winery next door and had such a lovely time. This is the perfect country get away. If you get a chance don't miss an opportunity tl stay here!

    Chelsey2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay near the beautiful Shenandoah National Park. Petsy was a fantastic host and her home was very comfortable and welcoming. She was very kind and responsive, and the house was very clean. Petsy and her daughter helped us with food recommendations and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely recommend!

  • Petsy is so very sweet and hospitable. The house is beautiful with all kinds of antiques. It is on a gorgeous piece of property. Be sure to have your directions and instructions into the house before you get there.....there is no phone service about 1 mile out from the property. So you wont be able to call for directions. But it is so well worth the drive!!

  • Although we just spent one night at Petsy’s house, we really enjoyed it. It’s a cosy house outside of the town and it’s really clean and quite. Petsy is a very friendly lady and we are glad to met her. From her place it’s close to the shenandoah national park. We would definitely stay at her place again!

  • We had an absolutely outstanding weekend! Michele and George were amazing hosts and seemed genuinely invested in ensuring our stay was perfect.... And it was! I won't go on about the place... It's perfect. I will say, tho, that the farm fresh eggs tasted so good!!! I had forgotten what a treat a "real egg" omelette could be. Go! Stop looking and reserve now! David and Danielle.

  • My husband and I were celebrating our one year anniversary as well as a quick baby moon. Great location only 15 minutes from Skyline Drive. Michele was a great communicator and had small wonderful touches left for us upon our check-in. Also pretty cool thing to be woken up by real roosters :)

  • This cottage was a perfect cozy getaway to the VA countryside. The house is close to Front Royal and Sperryville, and all of the fun wineries in the surrounding area. It’s SUPER close to skyline drive, and the Shenandoah River State Park, which has some beautiful walking trails. We will definitely stay again!

  • Fantastic place tucked away in Shenandoah. Michele has provided everything you could need while you are there, including fresh eggs from the chickens, which is a nice touch. Would 100% stay again and hopefully will be back in the future when the area is in full bloom!

    Connor2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is the ultimate oasis for a nice getaway from a busy and stressful work week. Michele was there to greet us and offered great suggestions for food and local attractions- which we were so thankful for! There is nothing about the apartment that was skimped out on, everything was warm, clean and super comfortable! We would give our stay ten stars if we could and we have no doubt that we will be back for another weekend away down the road.

    Anne2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived, we knew we had picked the right place! It is an absolutely gorgeous spot, and so close to the Skyline Drive. The guest cottage was spotless, and equipped with everything you could possibly need, from fresh eggs in the frig to toiletries to all kinds of info about area attractions! We loved that the space was so homey, and we loved being able to see the sunrise from our bed. George and Michelle could not have been nicer, and we enjoyed having the dogs greet us each day. If you are looking for a peaceful spot close to everything, plan a stay here...we can't wait to come back again!!!

  • We're not medical professionals but we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of Shelley's house in the Virginia Piedmont forest. Shelley was fun to chat with and was a generous and welcoming hostess. We made a nice hot breakfast in her well-equipped kitchen.

    Brian2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Shelley was an exceptional host, I couldn't recommend staying with her enough. She made us feel at home as soon as we arrived and is such an interesting person to talk to. The room is nice with a beautiful view and a comfy bed. The location is great as well, I would definitely recommend a visit Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive.

    Amanda2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great host, very laid back and friendly. Can't beat the price and very flexible/reasonable to work with. Would stay there again if I'm in the area.

    Ryan2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Shelley felt like staying with a good friend. The environment is very laid back and comfortable, and I felt completely at home 'making myself at home.' Shelley is a friendly hostess who was always happy to chat, share some local knowledge, and play Pictionary. Inside: Excellent amenities, comfy bed, very nice workout space in the basement. Very clean, just be aware that there are a few cats in the house. Outside: It's rural. I loved being able to walk outside in the morning and enjoy the fresh mountain air and a walk along the gravel paths and into the woods. It's a 15 - 20 minute drive from Front Royal, and the drive up the mountain can be a little sketchy in the dark, but not too big a deal; my tiny Corolla hatchback handled it no problem, and one guy even rode in on a motorcycle. Overall: A pleasure. Would happily visit again next time I'm in the area. Thanks Shelley!

Historic stone building with rustic charm. We are located in the heart of Linden. Easy access to Interstate 66. This private apartment is attached to a local farmers market. Open everyday, Mon-Sat 10-7, Sundays 10-5. Here we sell seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as our fresh eggs & pasture raised meats from our farm! We also sell wine & cheese. We are surrounded by wineries and minutes away from the beautiful Appalachian Trail. We are 60 miles from D.C. & 10 miles to Front RoyaI.
Our beautiful stone home was built in 1929. Rustic charm. Perfect for mountain getaways, wine touring, ladies night and hikers! Neat tidbit: The bathroom and kitchen floors are total 70's & we love them! Handpoured by a gentleman who used to live here during that time, pretty cool! Our space definitely shows its age, but you will also find it welcoming, earthy, light and airy with a large kitchen.
In our front yard is a special historical monument that marks the discovery of the Shenandoah Valley. For those who love to hike and explore, we are one mile from the Appalachian Trail and minutes away from the GR Thompson Wildlife Preserve.
  • The Giving Tree is a quiet, quaint, well positioned getaway tucked in behind a farmers market. It’s located a short drive from hikes, wineries, and so much more. We loved it! Brittany, the host, was extraordinarily generous and supportive. We missed the farmers market season but believe it would have been an amazing experience. Definitely recommend it!

Sunsets, serenity and sensational views await you at this rustic retreat set in the mountains, just a few miles from Shenandoah National Park and a little more than an hour from Washington, DC. Enjoy the wood burning stove in the winter and the mountain breezes in the summer. Sip wine from the hot tub and gaze down on the Shenandoah River valley below. Visit the local winery and seasonal food co-op during your stay, or hunker down for peace and tranquility.
The cottage is set on 3 acres with tons of privacy. The house has a spacious great room and kitchen on an open plan layout, and has a fully finished basement with a family/recreation room. Wood floors and the pine ceiling give this cottage a homey feel with spectacular views from inside or out. Guests can find privacy on one of two westward-facing decks. Separate bathrooms on each of the two floors allow you and your friends/family to spread out. The fully stocked kitchen and grills on the patio are ready for your use. The cottage has cable, DVD players, a smart TV, board games and puzzles to get you through a cold or rainy day. There are many other nice touches such as cornhole and horseshoe games I inherited from the previous (and wonderful) Airbnb hosts. Pets and children under 2 years old can be negotiated. Smoking is allowed outdoors only.
The cottage is nested in the woods, and you will see more wildlife (deer, birds, squirrels) than you will people. It is just minutes to Fox Meadow Winery and many others in the area. It takes about 7 minutes to get down the mountain to Linden, and about 15 to get to downtown Front Royal.
  • Alan's cottage in the mountain is exactly as pictured: beautiful, tranquil and well-appointed with fluffy fresh towels and linens. The place was super clean. My family enjoyed all of the thoughtful touches throughout the 3-acre space. The sectional looked brand new, and it was a delight to stretch out and watch the sun set through the windows while we kept a crackling fire burning in the wood stove. The nearby winery was a daily hangout for us, and the brochure rack on the wall had many other nearby attractions. I look forward to returning in the fall!

The "Cabbin" of Mountain Home is a cozy, comfortable hiker-friendly B&B just 120 yards east of the Appalachian Trail, on Route 522 (Remount Road), Front Royal, VA. 6 beds in shared space. Reserve 1-6 beds here. See '"Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B' to rent whole cabin. Occupancy and meals taxes are included in the listing price.
The “Cabbin" is a newly renovated historic building that was once a cabin, but is now a small brick building (with the logs still inside the walls). In the spirit of Appalachian Trail (AT) hiking, most people rent individual beds for a night or two. We've hiked the trail and know to provide hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, a shaver, Q-tips, linens, shampoo, soap, ride into town, breakfast, etc. Walk-ins are welcome, but it's always best to call or e-mail ahead so that we can coordinate. With a paid deposit, you can rent the whole "Cabbin" – look for this as a separate listing on AirBnB. The 2nd floor has 4 twin beds and a small, full bathroom. Downstairs is a small kitchen and dining area and a space with 2 futon beds and a small library. The space is air conditioned (or heated, depending upon the season). For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" (and before and "in progress" pictures of the main house) look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal. We also operate a full B&B from the main house.
We love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk in either direction. We are just a 4-mile hike to Shenandoah National Park and canoeing, kayaking and rafting are available on the Shenandoah River that goes right through Front Royal. We have rehabilitated the 1847 historic Greek Revival Style farmhouse on the property into a full B&B. There are 5 other buildings on the property including a chicken coop and sheep shed which we are also going to repair and restore. We are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home".
  • An amazing space and environment!! I loved everything about my stay, especially the breakfast!

    Brigit2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa and Scott are great hosts. Communication is excellent and makes the whole check-in process and stay extremely easy. I’ve stayed in both the “Cabbin”, and the Main House. Extremely clean, comfortable, and relaxing place to stay. My schedule had me leaving extremely early, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of the breakfast menu; however Lisa and Scott had prepared me a to go-bag with food, snacks, and a drink. You couldn’t ask for better hospitality.

    David2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • I had made this reservation same day and was extremely thrilled that Lisa and Scott accommodated me last minute! The cabin exceeded all my expectations and it was a pleasure to stay at such a fantastic and historic property! The breakfast and tour of the mansion was an added bonus! The owners truly care about their guests! I will definitely stay at this property again! Thankyou Lisa and Scott!

    Christopher2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa and Scott were incredible hosts! Something kept drawing me to stay at the Cabbin when I was feeling very indecisive about my selection, and I'm so glad I listened to my instincts! The stay was perfect, even more than I expected. Lisa and Scott were incredibly kind and thoughtful, providing great tips and recommendations for the area and hiking. I wasn't sure what to expect based on the pics of the cabin so I was so pleasantly surprised by the kitchen and bathroom in the Cabbin. Breakfast at the main house (an incredible historic beauty) was also such a nice surprise! Just the right balance between rustic/remote and great creature comforts. It could easily be renamed the Cozy Cabbin because it was so warm and inviting. I didn't want to leave. I'll be back again for sure ... and now it will be like visiting friends!

    Andrea2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa and Scott were so lovely! The cabbin was a perfect little respite from sleeping in my car on road trip. They both took time in the morning to share lots of hiking advice and trail maps. Delicious breakfast! Interesting historical home.

  • Great place to stay at a solid price. Needed to find a place last minute as I was entered into a pool tournament in Front Royal. Wound up getting a great night sleep, well rested and allowed me to win. Will be back next month

  • We had a relaxing stay in this beautiful home. Many extra amenities. Would rate this a 10 star !!!! Thank you again for everything.

    Michael2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The home is remarkable, the view and the landscape. Every details of this house was amazing Its really comfortable and beautiful and clean. I loved how Mr. Logan is making sure every bathroom have clean bath towels, shampoo and conditioner, soap tissues and paper towels, candles everywhere Amazing view in the deck. I would definitely come again.

    Abdulkarem2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing stay! The house was sparkling clean, the whole process was really easy, and Logan was so responsive. I would highly recommend staying here and definitely plan to stay here again in the future. The mountain views are stunning; the house is so inviting and was great for our group!!

    Ali2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The *NEW* Luxury Mountain Chalet, Tiki Bar was lovely. The views are gorgeous, we had striking sunsets each evening. The area is very quiet and private, but easy drive to Winchester, Front Royal and other active areas. Logan was quick to respond prior to the trip as well as during our visit. Check-in and check-out were simple. This house would be great for a family or 2 - 3 couples. We loved the fireplace and the deck. The great room was cozy with the fire, and the downstairs great room has comfortable recliners and TV (plus the infamous Tiki bar). Highly recommend. We can't wait to go back, and bring our friends the next time.

    Coleen2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED staying at Logan's! It was the perfect getaway from DC, and his local recommendations were spot on - from the breakfast sandwich at Jim's to Bear Chase Brewing- the neighborhood was great for morning walks, the views were fantastic, and our pup loved having a pet-friendly house to romp around. We're already planning our next getaway!

Looking for a "Shack" experience? Spend time in the foothills of the Skyline Drive at our cozy cottage. Well behaved dogs are welcome. The driveway is long and home is very secluded. Set on 60 acres. Winter access will be subject to weather conditions. Driveway does not get plowed Cell service is spotty however the house has a landline and wifi.
It's a peaceful, spiritual place tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains
The deer, the bears, turkeys...mostly the chipmunks that play in the stonewall outside my kitchen window
  • The cabin is a great getaway on a peaceful property.

  • One of those places where the pictures don't do it justice. Beautiful and clean space. Wonderful secluded location. Note that the driveway is fine for most cars except maybe sports cars. Valerie is a great host. Highly recommended.

    Eric2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie's cottage is awesome!! I highly recommended this for anyone that wants to stay off the beaten path in a beautiful house. It's a great find.

  • Peaceful and cozy cottage for a get away trip. Very close to several trails leading up to Skyline Drive and the AT. Beautiful location with lots of history and 10 mins from Front Royal. Awesome trip for us and our canine companion.

  • Cozy cottage tucked away in the woods. A great place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed snuggling by the wood stove, cooking, and walking about the property. Highly recommend. Valerie is a thoughtful host!

  • We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a place so close by during the holidays. We were looking for a romantic and quiet space to get away from the city hustle and lucked out with Valerie’s cottage. It had all the necessary amenities to make quick and delicious meals in the kitchen and also really nice bath salts and soaps to relax in the tub. It even had a stand up shower behind the door! We spent our days walking in nature on her premises and into Browntown to soak in the quaint farm lifestyle and other days sitting next to the fireplace and just relaxing. Our only regret was not spotting any large wildlife like bears but they were probably already hibernating for the winter. It was a memorable 4 night stay and highly recommend this spot!

    Maricarmen2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • We took our three pups for a pre-Christmas getaway for a few nights. Just walking in the front door, we were immediately cozy and comfy. It's a charming home -- as beautiful in person as it was in the photos, and very isolated which was ideal for starry night photography. A delightful Christmas tree added the perfect ambiance. Communication with Valerie was clear and direct. Kitchen needs were met easily for meal prep (lots of pans, utensils, dishes). Our pups snoozed most of the time in front of the gas stove or while we were watching movies downstairs -- we hooked up our Roku to stream films. We had a fantastic time walking around the property -- didn't see any wildlife, but our pups sure were smelling their trail. Overall it was a lovely experience, and we were sad to leave. We hope to go again. In fact, we already have friends asking about this place! (Side note of thanks to Valerie who was very understanding when one of our pups, in her last-minute-right-before-we-left pup enthusiasm, briefly thought a stuffed doll was a toy and left a small tear on the doll (ugh!) -- we offered to replace it, but Valerie kindly told us to not worry about it -- I'm guessing she understands pup behavior. Thank you again, Valerie!)

  • This cabin is a lovely getaway with all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay. Close enough to dc to get away, and plenty of space to cook, enjoy some wandering around the property, and relaxing in house. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to “get away” with more amenities that your standard camping or small cabin experience.

  • Cabin in the woods and mountain. Perfect cozy getaway. The pictures don't do it justice. Be aware it's a dirt road, but once you arrive, you never want to leave. All the amenities you need. Warm. Spacious. Very attentive hosts. Nothing bad to say.

    Nick2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived we had a fabulous trip- it was definitely a bumpy ride up the mountain, but we knew that already! The place was spotless, the furniture cozy and comfortable, and having the firewood available allowed for some great fires! They thought of every detail from a bottle of wine to treats for my dog! We’d definitely recommend this home to everyone! The only negative was the downstairs double bed in the main bedroom was pretty hard- just could use a mattress pad perhaps?

The house is close to George Washington National Forest, Hiking, Biking, Rock Climbing, wildlife (deer, turkeys, sometimes bear!), the pond is literally out the window with fish. You’ll love the large FIREPLACE, the semi-stocked LOG BAR, the view of the pond, the pine forests you can walk through, the wildlife, the views, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
-Semi-stocked LOG BAR where you can craft a cocktail by the fireplace. -You can also sit in the gazebo and enjoy the breeze on a nice day. -Within a 5 minute drive of George Washington National Forest. A couple hikes close by: -Strasburg reservoir hike -Lower buzzard rocks hike -Kennedy's Peak hike -Woodstock Tower hike You can quickly search them online, the app does not allow me to put links! -25 min drive to Skyline Drive! -** 2 of the 3 BR's are attached to the garage beside house, right outside the door of the house, but detached. No guests have had an issue with the layout!
  • Great spot in a beautiful and remote location. We stayed only one night but would love to come back one day with our dog and explore the area more! Cabin was cozy and rustic and had everything we needed to disconnect and be cozy for a night in the mountains. Loved the gazebo! No cell service or wifi but we knew that going in so we were prepared and actually enjoyed it. Thanks, Justin!

    Sarah2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great remote place to getaway from city. Last couple miles are paved road, so if the weather is not good it might be a little challenging to get up there with a sedan car. I highly recommend bringing your own drinking water, tap water has a sulfur smell, nothing bad but I would imagine drinking would be hard. Also there is not much around, its better to bring your own food and cook, instead of driving down. Side note, there was no hair dryer, or we weren’t able to find it, its better to brining.

  • If you need a quiet break from the city, this is your place. The area is gorgeous, and there are beautiful trails nearby. Bring your groceries and enjoy a secluded weekend away. The house is super cute with a log bar and a fireplace. Our dog couldn't have been happier running free is the big back yard, taking long walks down the road, and hiking through the trials. It was just what we were looking for!

    Jessica2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most phenomenal time at Justin’s place. The most authentic cabin situated in the woods, it was absolutely stunning to drink from the bar and overlook the lake. Serenity ! It was about a 35 minute drive down into woodstock which we loved the diner down there, an extremely auThentic experience. Everyone we encounter were so lovely and warm. We would have loved to have gone hiking but we were snowed out which was just lovely anyway !! Throughly enjoyed.

    Paige2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • I really loved Justin’s place, it was so warm and cozy. The house was built with great style and the property is absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to stay here again and hopefully bring some friends next time. I was also very happy that Justin provided free firewood. There is no cell service or wifi at the house so be prepared =]

  • I stayed here for several days with 3 12-year olds, for a birthday get-away. The cabin is modest, but well-maintained. The hot tub was very clean and inviting. And we all had a great time at the local swimming hole, which is only open to houses in the surrounding community. We made good use of the local tips that were provided. Many thanks for the relaxing few days.

    Victoria2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cabin in a great location - the hot tub, kitchen, and sleeping arrangements are all great, and we had a lovely time. The kitchen had all the necessary utensils and appliances, and the space was a great place to hang out and relax. One note, the stairs up to the bedrooms are a bit steep, so we had to carry the dog up and down. It wasn't an issue for us, but depending on the situation is worth noting. Overall, a great stay - we would definitely come back!

Cherry Cabin is close to Linden home to the Apple House. Shenandoah Park, wineries, orchards, Front Royal, horseback riding at Marriott Ranch, canoeing, Luray Caverns, Sky Meadows Park all with in a short drive. You’ll love it because it's a restored old cabin with lots of history tucked away in a very private setting. This is a United Plant Savers botanical Sanctuary managed for the conservation of medicinal plants, in your cabin you will find information about United Plant Savers
This is a restored historic log cabin home in a very private setting. It is rustic but with modern updates. The second story has 2 bedrooms with ceiling fans to keep you cool on warm summer nights. Downstairs in the common area there is a trundle daybed. Nice large deck to enjoy meals when the weather is nice. The property is over 120 acres, with lots of trails to explore, including access to the Appalachian Trail.
On the farm we have several other residents. We ask that you maintain their privacy. In our area we have wonderful places to explore. There are many parks, wineries and farms.
  • Susan’s place is the perfect cabin if you want to get away from the city. It’s about 15 minutes from Barrel Oak Winery and 10 minutes from others in the area. The cabin was clean when we arrived and loved how quiet it was at night. You wake up to birds chirping and a beautiful sunrise. Communication was quick and flexible. I plan on returning to make it a longer weekend to relax from the busy life of the city. If that’s what you’re looking for, I recommend staying here!

    James2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was wonderful and a very nice way to get away for the night. We especially loved seeing the stars on a clear night, the large tub, and using the wood stove.

    Dylan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This stay was amazing. The cabin is a bit rustic but it was perfect for me and anyone trying to get away. No tv, no problems! I loved having a wood stove again and the trail to the Appalachian trailhead is literally at the front doorstep. This place is a dream if you’re looking to disconnect and relax - but yes there is still a strong cell signal so you could Netflix if you really wanted to.

  • The cabin truly was a dream. An exceptionally gorgeous part of an exceptionally gorgeous part of the country. Vincent was a helpful, kind, and present host!

  • Very nice secluded area with lots of nature trails to explore. The tree house was amazing, and the cabin we stayed in " Cherry Cabin" was everything we expected. Very nice rustic look.

  • Great location! Privacy. Woods and trails and wildlife abound. Close to AT. No TV no Wi-Fi so perfect. Absolutely recommended.

  • Secluded cabin near the AT with trails right outside (some slightly strenuous!). Close to skyline drive, stores. Great porch & fire pit. Our little family w/one tween loved it, the dogs, the treehouse. Good roads—few potholes. Watch for animal signs, and some poop on the trails from the 3 friendly Anatolian shepherds. Follow the yellow markers to not get lost. We took our new Tesla there, zero issues. Were able to make bread, homestead meals. Super-friendly but non-intrusive hosts, self-check in. Nice HOT water. Loved it!
