Grocery or Supermarket
“La Colonia is one of two major supermarkets in Nicaragua (the other being La Union). La Colonia is comparable to shopping at major supermarkets in the States. In fact, aside from being smaller, it is exactly like "Stop and Shop," the major grocery store chain in NJ. This particular Colonia has a nice selection of wine, bears and hard liquors.”

“Mombacho volcano is an excellent option to climb and walk. There are three path of different level of difficulty. You will get to a beautiful viewpoint from where you can behold the city of Granada ( a colonial city) and the lake of Nicaragua. In the skirt of the volcano you can enjoy one of the most famous coffees, "Café Las Flores", where you can also taste a great dessert. I suggest to you the cheese cake with the passion fruit syrup.”

Point of Interest
“Catarina is a charming city and only 20 minutes away from our villa. Adorned by several nurseries and a magnificent view of Lake Apoyo, you will find art workshops and the "Villa de Artesanías" with lots of shops. Here you can also go horseback riding, or hike through the forest and trails leading you to the coast of the Apoyo Lagoon Natural Reserve. Culture is also a highlight here. Massive, picturesque and cheerful processions are held during throughtout the year.”

“Local favorite, famous for Guapote (fish from Lake Nicaragua). Great ambiance with dirt floors and delicious food. Recommend taking a taxi because it's a little far out (through not great neighborhoods). Even the President eats here when he's in town! They also have good steak and chicken dishes, as well as children's plates ”

“Open for lunch only, and looks inconspicuous with its small outdoor white sign and red cursive letters, but "El Garaje" is one of the best kept secrets in Granada! This place has amazing fresh daily specials, from crisp salads and delicious sandwiches to spicy soups and unique flavors from all over the world. Menu changes daily with only the freshest ingredients and this expat favorite is a fantastic lunch spot for both locals and tourists”
