Weavers Cottage is a detached 17th century stone built barn at the head of the Ullswater valley in the central Lakes. The views are stunning with panoramic views of lakeland fells and over Brotherswater. The place is pet friendly and perfect for guests who love the outdoors. Classic walks straight from the door and secure storage available for mountain bikes and canoes. After a day in the fells, toast your toes by the wood burning stove or enjoy the sunshine in the private south facing garden.
Weavers Cottage is a cosy upside-down cottage with downstairs bedroom and bathroom and open plan lounge and kitchen upstairs where you can enjoy the views from its elevated position. The house is finished with local slate and Herdwick wool carpets and the original exposed beams. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking at home. Unusually for such a rural property there is super fast broadband and in the lounge there is a TV, DVD player and standalone bluetooth speaker. To keep you warm there is central heating and a wood burning stove. Initial pack of wood briquettes is there when you arrive and additional fuel is available for sale (honesty box). The cottage is located in the beautiful conservation village of Hartsop at the bottom of Kirkstone Pass and is approached up a quiet lane and has it own private parking.
Hartsop is located in the beautiful Ullswater Valley. The location feels remote, yet amenities are not far away. The nearest pub is 15min walk along Brotherswater. Just a few miles up the road are Patterdale and Glenridding where you can find local shops and Post Office. Penrith or Kendal are 30 minutes drive and have all the big supermarkets. Ambleside and Windermere are even closer and have all the bars and restaurants you would ever want. In Ambleside you find the independent Zeffirelli's cinema for those really wet days.

  • Amazing little cottage in a beautiful location, right beneath the fells and within walking distance of Ullswater. We enjoyed lots of lovely walks right from our doorstep and having a cosy cottage with everything we needed to enjoy our stay, was lovely to come back to. Judith was great, welcomed us and even baked us a lemon drizzle on our arrival and left a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge! Couldn’t recommend enough and we would love to return in future.

The Lake District, also known as the Lakes or Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells), and its associations with William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets and with Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin. A National Park established in 1951 covers an area of 2,362 square kilometres. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. The Lake District is located entirely within the county of Cumbria. All the land in England higher than 3,000 feet (914 m) above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest bodies of water in England, Wast Water and Windermere.
  • Great location and great host. Everything we needed for a stay in the Lake District - thank you

    Trelawney2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • You must stop here, everything about the place is perfect. There are so many thoughtful little touches that elevate staying here above other places, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The advice I would give to anybody staying here is to take a walk down the road you drive up to arrive, then hang a left at the end up a public footpath and climb directly up the peak in front of you, the views on the way up and indeed at the top are some of the best in the country.

    Christian2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

    Mark2020-02-03T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed at Little Grove for 4 days and it was a lovely experience. It's a cosy space that has everything you would need. The views are stunning and the sheep and chickens out the back were very friendly! Lovely little touches made the stay even nicer, fresh cake and eggs from the farm were delicious. Close enough to Ambleside to feel part of the town but still feels like you are out in the fells. We hope to be back again! Thanks Sarah

Set back from the main hall and nestling in its own private woodland garden is the former Dairy. The dairy offers accommodation for up to 2 (a couple). The layout is fairly unique with mezzanine type sleeping accommodation via a steep wooden ladder. There is a log burning stove in the living room. The Dairy has a fully equipped compact kitchen and a shower room on the ground floor.
Tea and coffee basics are provided for your arrival so you can arrange a hot drink before you unpack. Unlike other venues, we provide tea towels, an oven glove , cooking oil and salt and pepper with the intention to make your stay as stress free and comfortable as possible. Due to unique style of the Dairy, it is not suitable for those who struggle on their feet. Unavoidable stone steps lead down to the front door. Prior to arrival you will be sent an introductory induction video and need to confirm you have seen this.
It's a lovely area. Mobile phone signal is limited to the Vodafone network at present.
  • The Dairy is the perfect stay for exploring Ullswater and the surrounding area. It is perfectly equipped with everything you will need. It is very cosy with the fire and being able to see birds, deer and red squirrels from the window was very lovely!

    Lucy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • An exceptional little place and if you like quirky The Dairy is the place to stay. Everything on your doorstep...a huge bonus to forget about your car once you arrive. Fantastic large enclosed garden...Gus our Labrador didn’t want to come home!

  • We had a brilliant stay at this quirky little place. The kitchen was so well equipped that cooking was a pleasure and we loved our cosy evenings in front of the fire. Great location for walking, going to the pub and visiting the lakes.

    Eleanor2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • It's a great place to just turn up and feel at home. Everything is thought out and easy to use. Great location and left to our own devices. The dogs loved it too. Having a place to run around in our the back. Very cosy and perfect for a break away.

    Diane2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you love unusual and quaint locations, this one is superb. Great location for any outdoor activity or just to get away from it all. Seeing red squirrels in the trees outside was a real treat.

  • Had a great stay. The dairy was warm and toasty and a great place to walk to Helvellyn from. Easy access to local pubs for supper. Had a great meal at the white lion.

High Beckside is a delightful 17th-century traditional Lakeland farmhouse, in the conservation village of Hartsop. It has beautiful southerly views of Hartsop Dodd and Dovedale, and is ideally situated for walking in the fells. The cottage is full of character with exposed oak beams and an open fire. Set in 1/2 acre of garden, with lots of wildlife. Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcomed for a small extra fee of 15 pounds per dog. FRIDAY (CHECK- IN) TO FRIDAY (CHECK - OUT) BOOKINGS ONLY.
Out of consideration for the local red squirrel population, we regret that cats are not accepted at High Beckside.
Recently awarded World Heritage Status, the Lake District National Park is one of the highlights of any trip to the UK. Hartsop, a Conservation Village, has retained many original features - stone and slate cottages, some with spinning galleries, a working National Trust hill farm and an ancient pack-horse bridge. A variety of high-level walks directly from the door, or low-level walks such as round Brotherswater lake (with refreshments at the Inn), or along the track to Patterdale village and Ullswater lake.
  • A very easy and comfortable house to live in ! We had a slight panic initially as couldn’t find fourth (double) bedroom which is up outside stone staircase in what was the old wool loft. Nice big boiler room with stone floor for the dogs.

    Suzette2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful setting, a comfy rose covered cottage, well away form the tourists. The sun shone and it was perfect.

  • Hazel is brilliant and the property was ideal for us. Thank you.

    Richard2018-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully rustic home reflecting the rugged landscape around it, Hazel's place nestles in a striking valley with a roaring beck just beyond the back garden yet also has all the comforts and conveniences. We especially enjoyed the open fire and the luxury shower after a wet day's walking. Hazel (and her father) were quick to respond when we needed help with a power cut and a tripped switch in the fusebox. All was as we'd hoped for and more. Despite a week of rain and storms we had a lovely time and would happily return.

    Vanessa2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is in such a beautiful location. Quiet and right in the fells. Great for walking from the door. Ulswater is simply beautiful.

  • Lovely warm and welcoming cottage. Sarah provided a cot and highchair for our little boy and also the entertainment with the hens! Home made cakes and flowers on arrival was a lovely touch! Thank you for a great stay.

    Lucy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful! The cottage was spotless and cosy. Bed super comfortable. Location was a dream. Sarah was very welcoming. I didn’t want to leave.

    Claire2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This cosy cottage is the perfect place to stay when visiting the Lake District. Sarah’s cottage stood out to me from the listing but it’s even better in real life and in the most stunning location with breathtaking views. There are lots of extra special touches around the cottage and Sarah had fresh flowers and homemade brownies out for our arrival. The size is really great and more than enough space for 2-4 people. Would definitely recommend and am likely to revisit in the future!

  • A terrific stay at Grove Cottages. Sarah and her family are wonderful and experienced hosts. The cottage was very cosy, spotless and equipped with everything you could need. Location is brilliant for all the local towns and beauty spots. The view from the cottage is outstanding, this is one place I would love to return to. Sarah's welcoming cookies were a lovely treat too. Thank you Sarah and family (and friendly dog and chickens).

    Veronika2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Staying as a family of four Middle Grove suited us perfectly. It was very comfortable, had everything we needed and made for a relaxing stay in late December. Sarah and her daughter were very welcoming and our daughters (7 & 5) loved feeding the chickens in the morning.

    Paul2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location is a 25 minute walk from Ambleside either up the road or alongside the waterfall, until the revolving gate. The description of the cottage, middle grove, was as stated and better than expected, although you are adjoining the other 2 cottages there is no noise pollution between each. The surrounding views are stunning even when cloudy. I would be happy to stay here again without hesitation, Sarah is on hand if you require her advice or just for a general chat which is nice.

We would like to welcome you to come and stay in our cosy Cumbrian working Farmhouse. The journey to us takes you along the edge of Lake Ullswater, passing Sharrow Bay and Howtown Hotel. Up the Hause and into our hidden gem of a valley “ Martindale”. Once you have driven over Christy Bridge you have arrived at Winter Crag Farm. We are just a stones throw away from the ancient Church of St Martin which has the famous old Yew tree. We are also close to many tourist attractions such as Lowther Castle / Glenridding / Dalemain House / Reghed Centre/ Keswick and the scenic route to Ambleside and Windermere.
  • We loved every minute at Rachel's, it was so cozy and in the perfect location for plenty of walks in and around the fells/Ullswater. The lack of connectivity was nice - getting away from the rush of everyday life and enjoying the country side in all it's glory. Even played games on the kitchen table in the evening! Can't imagine anywhere else we'd want to stay in the Lake District now.

    Rob2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful to stay Winter Crag is the ideal place for you. Rachel’s farm is set in a lovely location and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thank you very much for our stay!

  • Rachel's place was a beauty imbedded within the Lake District landscapes. High recommend for those quiet excursions.

    Joseph2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Rachel's home was fantastic. We loved every minute of it. The scenery was stunning and it's a peaceful and quiet area. We definitely recommend this place.

    Andres2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation in a fantastic location with beautiful ridge walks straight out the door. Rachel was really helpful in the run up to arrival in answering all of my questions. Would really recommend staying here. A couple of things to be aware of: there was quite a lot of damp in one of the bedrooms, and with 5 people speedy showers were needed to prevent the hot water from running out. The owners control the heating so if they aren’t in to switch it on then it can get chilly. There is absolutely no phone signal or WiFi. Don’t let this dissuade you though. The valley really is beautiful and the cottage both cosy and homely.

  • A beautifully presented cabin in gorgeous surroundings. Excellent and clean facilities.

    Alice2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cabin in a stunning setting. There's loads to explore on the grounds of Rydal Hall, and it's right between Ambleside and Grasmere. The cabin was very spacious despite packing in a large double bed, bunk beds, and a single bed. The wood burning stove kept us warm even in chilly winter temps. Micky's pizza was a great recommendation, too. Cheers Ben!

  • Great little spot. We went just two adults and a small dog, might be a squeeze for 6 adults! Such a gorgeous location- short walk from the dog friendly pub at the bottom of the drive! Short 10 min drive from Ambleside. The log fire was just amazing!

  • Charming cottage, full of thoughtful touches. Situated in secluded surroundings, yet a 5 minute drive from the bustling town of Ambleside. The great views and log fire make this stay a perfect rural retreat.

  • A lovely cottage, and Sarah was a great host. It’s slightly tucked away from Ambleside, but with easy access to the town by car or foot. So peaceful with an amazing view. Would recommend!

  • Sarah’s cottage was beautiful - the perfect place to stay for a peaceful trip away. The cottage is a 30 min walk away from Ambleside but with that comes complete seclusion and amazing views of the hills. The cottage itself has everything you might need and included some lovely thoughtful touches like milk for tea and homemade cake when we arrived ! One of the most enjoyable experiences in an air b n b we’ve had !

Drinking water is available from an outdoor tap on the hill, and at the bathroom block.
Your cabin looks out over rolling hills and Lake Windermere in the distance on a clear day. There is a fantastic pub 10 minutes walk from the site. There are waterfalls within the site, a few minutes from your cabin. Rydal water and Grasmere are within walking distance. This is a treasured gem of an area in the Lake District offering tranquility, rest and rejuvenation in a world class natural setting. The bustling market town of Ambleside is a 15 minute stroll, offering shops, restaurants, cinema, climbing wall and museums.
  • A beautiful hillside hut in a special part of the lake district. The huts are simple but have everything you need for a cozy few days including power sockets, lighting a stove and a warm, crackly wood burner. Good launching spot for climbs/runs/swims with some nice nearby pubs and Ambleside just down the road. Shower and toilet facilities are communal but clean and more than adequate. All in all a fantastic place, would recommend.

  • Great cabin in a lovely setting. Quite rustic but this was just what we were looking for and would definitely recommend

  • Stunning place to stay - would highly recommend.

    Emma2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, homely yurt with lots of character, we loved our stay and made the most of our surroundings. We spent our days hiking in the beautiful countryside, exploring nearby Ambleside and dining at the cosy local pubs. One of the nights we decided to stay in and cook a lovely dinner – all utensils were provided. Ben was easy to contact and made the whole experience smooth from the get-go.

    Rachel2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin is very quiet and certainly at one with nature. Great log fires both inside and out of the cabin and is a nice touch that plenty of logs are provided, each cabin has their own log store! Be aware that the cabin is a 5 minute walk from the car park up a steep hill, this also goes for the toilet/shower block. A relatively decent fitness level is therefore required. Location is fantastic with loads of walks nearby, both Ambleside and Grasmere are walking distance via good scenic paths.

    Matthew2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful spot in hut 3 on top of the hill. Stunning views in the middle of the fells, surrounded by sheep! Amenities were great, all extremely clean. Our hut was right at the top of the hill which was a fair walk up from the car park/bathrooms, but this is all explained on the listing- and who doesn’t expect a hill or two when visiting the Lake District?! Also, tip- when you arrive at the site, make sure you turn up in the day time to find your hut. There is no lighting on site at night (which wouldn’t ordinarily be a problem if you bring a torch to find your way back), but we bumped in to one couple in the evening who had just turned up and couldn’t find their hut!! They are all spread out over a field, so finding your allocated hut in the pitch black is neigh-on impossible. Our stay was brilliant though, couldn’t fault it. The wood-burning stove in the hut was the best thing ever. A perfect middle-ground between camping and getting a hotel. Only wish we had stayed longer! We’ll be back!

    Ellie2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, really great views and incredibly cozy. I would love to return to Ben’s place! Ambleside I found to be more like a 40 minute walk away, whereas it is listed as 15 but apart from that the listing is accurate.

The house was spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. The large room upstairs with dining table and lounge area was so good for just spending time together. Glenridding is a great base to explore many fells and the lake. The house and bedrooms are furnished to a reasonable standard. We really enjoyed our stay.

High Grove Cottage is a magnificently spacious 3 storey cottage, situated at the end of the stone barn. There are fantastic views to Kirkstone Pass, Red Screes and the Langdale Valley. The property has undergone a sympathetic conversion leaving the majority of stone walls and original timbers on show. A wood burner has recently been added.
Grove Cottages lie in the beautiful Stock Valley. They are reached by a private drive from Ambleside which runs past Stockghyll Falls, climbing to 700 feet and offering some of the finest panoramic views in the Lake District. Guests are invited to relax in the gardens, or freely explore the farm. Grove Farm is the setting for your own tranquil retreat, yet with Ambleside just over a mile away there is an excellent choice of shops, bars and restaurants close by, with easy access to all the magnificent scenery and exciting pursuits that the Lake District has to offer.
  • Lovely location with spectacular views! About a 20-25 min walk into Ambleside which was lovely. For a small contribution there were fresh eggs available each day and some amazing home baking by Sarah!

  • Highly recommended. Fantastic accomodation in the most stunning location. We were a group of 5 adults so young adults were able to walk down into Ambleside quite happily whilst us older adults took in the views further up the mountain. Fresh eggs for breakfast were an absolute treat. We feel totally and utterly rejuvenated after just a 3 night stay over New Year. If we visit the Lake District again we will most definitely book this accomodation.

  • We had a really lovely stay in log cabin 1. The location was brilliant, great views and the bathroom & shower facilities were really clean. The amenities in the log cabin were great. The log burner was amazing and kept us nice and warm. Unfortunately it wasn't warm enough for us to sit and eat outside but the view was amazing nonetheless! Thank you so much, we had a lovely time!!

  • The environment around the chalet is exceptional and is a special experience. It’s just sad that I gave a wrong address and led us to the mountains. It was raining again on the day of the check-in, which made us drenched when we were looking for a house. Fortunately, I finally contacted the landlord and provided a paid car to take us to the right place.

  • What a gorgeous place to stay! Even when the weather isn’t brilliant (which it wasn’t for our stay) the yurt is lovely and cosy and Ben has thoughtfully filled the bookshelf with games and books. The log shed was full and the burner more than adequately heated the space - we had to open the door! There’s a lovely easy walk into Ambleside and being between there and Grasmere it’s ideally located. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

    Jasmin2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in the yurt - it was well decorated and had everything we needed. The location was really easy to get to by train/bus from London. There were great walks in the area with incredible scenery.

  • The yurt was a great place to get out of the city. The location is wonderful, the camping is not crowded at all and the view from the yurt is great. Don't miss the nearby stream for swimming! Ben was great at making us feel welcome, giving us a lot of tips about the area and it felt like he was always available on the phone and nearby if there were any issues.

Bacon, sausages, eggs, milk and yoghurts are bought from a neighbouring farm and even our electricity comes from a local provider who uses 70% renewable sources. Our front room, where you will enjoy your breakfast in the morning, doubles as a sitting room, where you will have access to a selection of local reading material and games, great for a rainy day. Our accommodation is cosy and comfortable and by 2021 all rooms will have been fully refurbished and refreshed as part of our ongoing improvement program. Every room also has free WiFi access.
There are 16 stunning lakes in the Lake District, the nearest one to Mosscrag Guest House being Ullswater. Ullswater is the second largest lake and one of the most accessible. You can enjoy cruising the clear, deep waters from one of the five boats that operate during the summertime with the Ullswater Steamers. Make sure to visit the Helvellyn Country Kitchen two door down from us. They offer an excellent choice of lunchtime sandwiches on homemade bread as well as a large selection of homemade sweet treats.

  • Amazing amazing amazing! From stepping in the front door you can expect a warm welcome. The house is lovely, the rooms very tastefully decorated and we were lucky to have a room with a view of Lake Ullswater - just as was described. They have added a lovely touch with their different style of breakfast with a small fridge in your room full of complimentary snacks, yogurt, milk, fruit and also cereal and biscuits, then the best bit is you get a fresh breakfast roll and coffee delivered to your room - very tasty. A very pleasant stay in a beautiful quiet village. Can't wait to return.
