“From Churchhill Downs website: "Horse racing in Kentucky dates back to 1789, when the first race course was constructed in Lexington. Almost 100 years later, in 1875, Churchill Downs officially opened its gates in Louisville, and began its tradition as "Home of the Kentucky Derby" and the longest continually running sporting event in America."”

“On race day you can hear the cars in the back yard. If you're this close to the track, you really should go see it. The "tour" is a simple ride around the track, and some say it's overpriced, but, hey, there are only a few opportunities for a common person to actually be on the track, so why not take advantage of it? How else could you get on to the actual track? Run the Mini Marathon the first Saturday of May!”

“This zoo is one of the best in the country and participates in a program to assist the preservation of a species. It's more than family friendly, but is also a pleasant place for adults only. There is plenty to see, observe and enjoy for all ages. Plan for several hours, so you aren't frustrated with the lack of time to see it all. Animals begin to get agitated about an hour before closing, because they know it will soon be feeding time... it might be a time you'd want to be there!”

“This neighborhood is starting to lose it's artsy charm, but you can still find some gems here. It has place like Good Earth Natural Foods (a store like no other), The Magic Bus (a fun place), and The Vogue Theater (to see live shows). There are also tons of great restaurants, art galleries, and random shops to explore.”

“Maybe our favorite restaurant in the city, Bluebeard is farm-to-table and has, in our opinion, the best bar in the city. We really like their large salads and appetizers--often we don't even order an entree.”

“If the sun is out, this is the place to be and be seen! Fresh, fire oven pizzas, a deadly basil gimlet (go easy!), and a game or two of ping pong. Add in that it's the perfect place to visit with some furry friends visiting with their owners, and Garage bar is seriously cool.”

“Great food in the least expected of places. People line up to get in to this hole in the wall, but you'll leave with a happy belly! Any burger will blow your socks off, try the Grippo fries and the Mac n Cheese balls. No reservations and you might need to wait in the cold, but you won't be disappointed.”
