All about Jasper

Jasper is a small alpine town in the Alberta province of Canada and is home to some incredible natural wonders, like Mount Columbia — Alberta's tallest mountain and Maligne Lake — the second-largest glacial-fed lake in the world. Jasper is known by many as the gateway to the great outdoors, because from here you can immerse yourself in an array of outdoor activities — from mountain biking along the park’s network of trails, hiking through river-cut canyons, or white-water rafting along scenic river routes in the Jasper National Park. The town has also been deemed one of the world’s largest, accessible dark sky preserves, so on a clear night you will be able to gaze up and see constellations and the swirls of the Milky Way, while you wait with bated breath for shooting stars to traverse the sky. Jasper is also home to some well-regarded museums and art galleries, which will offer you an insight into the region’s rich history.

What are the top things to do in Jasper?

Miette Hot Springs

For a soothing dip in mineral-infused natural hot springs, take the trip out of town to the Miette Hot Springs — the hottest hot springs in the Canadian Rockies — where the hottest pools hit a piping-hot 129 degrees Fahrenheit. Thankfully there are cooler pools that are delightful to swim in, and there are even a couple of super-cold pools if you are after a hot-and-cold experience.

Jasper Sky Tram

Drive 15 minutes out of town and take a ride on the Jasper Sky Tram — the longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada. The seven-minute journey will take you to an altitude of above 2,000 meters, and when you reach the top, you will step out into a memorable mountain experience — with endless views of six mountain ranges, glacially fed lakes, rivers and the Jasper National Park.

Hiking in Jasper National Park

With more than 700 miles of trails and scenery ranging from soaring peaks, cascading waterfalls and emerald lakes, Jasper National Park is heaven for hikers. Whether you want to take a half or full day hike, a multi-day hike or a just relaxed stroll, you will find a trail to suit. Popular trails include the Valley of the Five Lakes Loop or the Maligne Canyon Loop Trail.
