Places to stay in Kaka Point
Welcome to our lived in home. We have a family of 4. We are a pet friendly home and have 2 cats and 2 small fluffy dogs. As we have 2 small children, please respect that they do like to make a mess at times. We are on the start of the catlins scenic route. I offer a free continental breakfast with coffee tea and milo. I have a washing machine and clothes dryer that also can be used. Free Wifi. Car parking space. P.s why pay $45 each to stay at campground in a tent when you can stay with us.
We have a very warm and welcoming home. We have a "modern country" theme to our home. Our home is definitely no "show home" it's a home full of love and laughter while we make memories.
We have a very quiet neighborhood. We live in the new sub division of Balclutha. Our neighbors are very friendly. We have a walking track beside our property that at the top it has a lovely view of balclutha, the river and even on a nice day you can see nugget point in a distance. Shops are located close within 2 min drive. Park is around the corner. Lovely quiet area. We are within 45 min drive to Gore, 45min drive to Dunedin and also its Airport. We are on the start of the catlins scenic route.
  • Very friendly hosts, close to town, exactly as advertised! Enjoyed the boys and friendly dogs. Exellent internet. Would stay there again.

  • Very nice and friendly host. Best place to stay :)

  • The accommodation is well suited for a few nights and offers everything you need. It was clean and we had a good time with Dannette and got some useful tips.

    Hendrik2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Super friendly and welcoming, comfy bed, fun dogs and pointed us in the direction of some tasty food and good beer! Great for the price

    Joe2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Dannette's place is as she describes - lovely lived-in home. The bed was warm and the shower had plenty of hot water. She and her family are nice and friendly.

    Bradley & Jenny2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute rare gem. The cheerful young family host including two beautiful boys and three lovely puppies taught us what the excellent hospitality is. They treat us like their close old friends. You may find more luxurious accommodation which can provide you same level of material satisfaction as we felt in this bnb if you pay at least double. However among 16 nights of total stays in our trip in NZ, this bnb was the far best and let us feel most comfortable and at home, which is priceless. Thank you so much Dannette!

    Tomiharu2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Danette is a vital, cheerful and forthright hostess who does everything in her power to please you. The price-quality relation is good. Everything you need is there.

    Sipke2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Danette and her family are lovely and the space is great! The beds are very comfortable and the dogs are very cute :)

  • Beautiful place to stay with an excellent host. Extremely friendly and helpful

    Michele2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a little piece of paradise. Each beach walk I took was alone with the sea lions and seals. Magic!

    Tauni2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is a wonderful AirBnB host (and a great baker who provides us with some awesome treats.) Her BnB has fantastic ocean/cliff views. The sea lions and penguins were an unexpected bonus for us to see. We enjoyed our stay here and we're sad to leave. Three nights was not nearly enough time. We hope to come back for another visit during our next New Zealand adventure.

    Crystal & Dan2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Helen and Peter's place. They were very helpful and gave us a lot of good information. The accommodation is furnished with great attention to details. It would be nice to come back sometimes.

    Rolf2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very good location with a wide beach where we saw sea lions and yellow eyed penguin. The short hike to the Jacks Bay Blowhole is a must.

    Euclid2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I were totally blown away by the beautiful views! The location couldn't be more perfect. Helen and Peter were excellent hosts, extremely helpful and friendly. The place itself is beautifully decorated, super clean, and has the most comfortable bed! If you're heading to the Catlins and want a beautiful, relaxing place with ocean views from your bed, I highly recommend staying here. Being able to see the odd penguin on the beach is also definitely a bonus :-).

    Jessica2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning spot! Don't think twice about reserving a stay here. Helen is very helpful and the space matches 100% down to every last details you see in the photos. Being able simply cross the road for an early morning stroll along the beach with the Sea Lions (or swim!) and experience chance sightings of the yellow-eyed penguins with nobody else around was a truly magical experience.

  • Traditional villa with charm, very large rooms, very friendly hosts, good breakfast, good starting point for trips to the Catlins

    Stefan2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Still a bit restrictive

    2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful stay in Bob and Bronwyn's lovely house. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Bronwyn is very kind to make the breakfast as what we like. Bob and Bronwyn has maintained this old house in such a good condition, and they showed us around the whole house and garden. Highly recommended.

    Vivian2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Old English country charm down south, this coupled with warm, inviting, generous hosts made our stay! Great value for money, Kiwi hospitality at it's best, would thoroughly recommend!

    Jan & Rus2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a unique, authentic BnB experience, look no further! Bob and Bronwyn's charming, historic mansion-turned-BnB is a portal into another time and age. Built in 1915, the house is full of character, and Bronwyn was perfectly happy to share the property and its numerous stories with us. She also prepared a delicious breakfast for us with farm fresh eggs, and we greatly enjoyed chatting with her over coffee while we ate. She's a very sweet, gracious, and welcoming host, and we really felt like she'd invited us into her home as friends. All that said, you should manage your expectations while staying in a property as old as this one. It was quite drafty and cold inside throughout the house, though the hosts provided space heaters in our room. There was also WiFi available, but the signal wasn't strong enough to reach our room upstairs — though while staying in a unique place like Bob and Bronwyn's, you should be spending your time chatting with the hosts and enjoying the amazing house and garden rather than spending it online, anyway! We highly recommend a stay at Bob and Bronwyn's! You won't regret it, and you'll leave with an amazing memory of a palacial property.

    Ryan2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great experience! We were greeted by Bronwyn and taken to our huge room up a grand staircase. We were invited to wander the vast and beautiful grounds and explore the historic building. We actually shared dinner with Bob & Bronwyn. They only take one family or group at a time making this a very private visit. It is a short drive from the Dunedin airport and an excellent taking off point if you plan to visit The Catlins! We are so glad we chose this Air BnB!

    Terri2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a stately old home. Credit to the owners for putting work in to maintain and repair the place. The rooms were lovely, a pity we were only there for 12 hours.

  • The nicest people ever! This is the best place in NZ to stay, everything was perfect!

    Ryan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • As a hidden gem this place is highly recommended. Not only, as this place is a very clean and comfortable BnB in a quiet area just a few steps away from the beach, but also because of the wonderful hosts. John and Helen are lovely people making my wife and myself feeling at home from the very first moment onwards. Had nice talks with them and got a lot of interesting information and suggestions. Breakfast was fantastic and for those who love coffee, John prepares a real good coffee. Loved to stay at the place and would like to stay there again when visiting New Zealand again.

    Theo2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Highly highly recommend!! We were treated as family and enjoyed the personal touches very much! The breakfast was great and were spoiled with a delicious flat white! My partner also had a wonderful surf session right in the front yard! Very clean and comfortable and couldn’t have had a better experience!

    Emily2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The hospitality of Helen and John is simply amazing. The two read every wish from the eyes. Our stay had come something from home. There would have been something missing on our trip without Helen and John.

    Ulrike2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a great experience. We were lucky to have stumbled on John and Helen's place. It was a secluded place about 30 mins outside of Dunedin. The location was perfect for those who want to see the bluffs and the beaches famed in southeast coast. The hosts helped us pick out dinner locations, provided tea and snacks and a scrumptious breakfast with fresh croissants in the morning. It was great experience talking with them regarding the state of things in NZ and a great cultural exchange of ideas in general. They are a lovely couple and the stay was one of the highlights of our trip.

    Justin2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • John and Helen are wonderful hosts, they ticked all the boxes but we could only pick one so we went for outstanding hospitality! From the lovely cuppa and yummy biscuits and cup cakes when we arrived at 10pm, interesting conversations, a very spacious and comfortable room and bathroom with thoughtful touches to the lovely beach at the front of their property we loved our stay. Hope to be back soon!

    Wendy2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. A very comfortable clean, larger than average room, very stylishly done up, and an ensuite bathroom larger than most I have experienced. A separate entrance gives you all the privacy you need with a very strong wifi connection. Super clean with a number of little personal touches makes this lovely home definitely worth a visit. But best of all, what lovely hosts. They made us feel part of the family and went out of their way to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible.

Marama Church is situated in the old Gold Mining Town of Lawrence in Otago. It is set on the grounds of Marama Lodge which has mature trees, a tennis court and is quiet and peaceful. Inside is a queen size bed and is self contained with a full kitchen. There is beautiful timber work and is full of character. An extra bed is available. It's close to Cafes, The Clutha Gold Cycling Track, A new community swimming pool, Nine hole golf course (we have clubs available) and Rivers for fishing nearby.
The Church was shifted to Marama Lodge in the year 2000. We have enjoyed working on it to use it for accommodation. It is full of character and situated in lovely grounds with mature trees.
  • This airBnB is a destination in itself. Gorgeous, quiet spot right off the highway, this gem has a full kitchen, a great bathroom and even a washing machine! All this in a unique setting in what used to be a little church. It was lovely! The bed was comfortable and the WiFi worked well. The windows, the floors, the beautiful wood features were amazing. Loved it!

  • This is an amazing place - what a sweet church! The kitchen was awesome and had everything you could require to do some real gourmet cooking, if inclined! Unfortunately we were only there for one night - I would have loved to stay longer and we barely got to enjoy the neighborhood, but all was quiet and the property is beautiful! Thank you Marie for your thoughtfulness and stopping in to make sure we were well!

Perfect place to stay on southern side of south island and you can get some Instagram worthy photos on this breathtaking property. • Sandi's place is gorgeous. The rooms are beautifully furnished, Sandi cooked a delicious meal that was reasonably priced. It was my birthday and the hosts made it special. Lovely touches to the house including a bath in my room. Wish I had had more time to stay longer. Good wifi. Totally recommend the experience.

  • The Mainholm Lodge is a perfect getaway for families doing the Southern Scenic Route. The 7 of us enjoyed our night at Graham and Sandi's lovingly restored home. We felt like we were staying in a museum, you can tell they put a lot of love and care into their home. Breakfast was amazing!

  • I was able to have a good time with my family in a really nice and old house. Hosts were kind, too, and I was able to enjoy the atmosphere as if I was a protagonist in a classic novel.

  • Jaclyn and Warren are gracious and hospitable. Their cheese/meat platter and cooked breakfast are delicious touches and a total must if you stay with them! Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the Catlins and offered us a map and numerous suggestions which we thoroughly enjoyed visiting. The home is off the beaten path, however its seclusion offers a sense of peace and serenity that typifies a Catlins holiday. There’s no other place we’d stay when visiting again!

Great shower and the perfect location for exploring the beautiful Catlins. Jaclyn is a warm and welcoming host and we loved meeting her little boy and also feeding the lambs. • Perfect for what we needed, a nights kip on the way down to the Catlins. Easy to find. A super easy check in and warm welcome from Pamela. Perfect for those with kids, they enjoyed playing with the dolls house and feeding the lambs. Great conversations too. Definitely be back!
