Places to stay in Lisdillon
The Gregan Retreat's located on a vineyard and sheep farm called Lisdillon Estate. The house comfortably fits two and overlooks the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet which flows down to Lisdillon's private beach, only a five minute stroll away. Included is the option of a free tasting of our internationally award winning wine.
The house has a large balcony to relax and enjoy the view of the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet. It has a fireplace to keep you toasty warm through those winter nights (however as we don't tend to do as many firewood runs in summer there is a chance there will be no firewood in that season). We offer a relaxed stay on a farm. We have a private beach which is so untouched that many rare birds nest there. We also have a private river which is brimming with a variety of fish if you enjoy fishing (strictly catch and release). Bring your kayaks and float down the rivulet to the beach. If you have a boat you can take it out to the sea and fish in front of our property (a list of species you can catch is available below). The house comfortably fits two people. It has a kitchen/living room, bathroom and separate bedroom with queensized bed. The property is situated 21 kilometres outside of the nearest town of Swansea, and an hour and a half from Hobart. Swansea and its surroundings have some well-known gourmet restaurants, the closest of which, Piermont, is only a ten minute drive away if guests wish to indulge themselves. It is a fifty minute drive to Coles Bay, and the world famous Freycinet National Park. Several vineyards set amidst the stunning scenery of the east coast of Tasmania, are within easy driving distance. Taste the high quality wine of Milton and Springvale at their cellar doors. Perfect for a relaxed weekend away - try some of Lisdillon's delicious, internationally award winning pinot noir or sauvignon blanc! For the fishermen guests, the sea out the front of our property offers: - bay flathead - king flathead - cod - trumpeter - trevally - salmon - perch - squid - crayfish The Lisdillon Rivulet has: - bream - oysters - trevally mullet - Australian salmon - brown trout - native galaxia -occasionally flathead - eels - grayling, aka cucumber herring
Lisdillon is a 6000 acre working sheep farm and vineyard. Its title includes three white, sandy beaches to low water mark, as well as the reef off the main beach. It also includes a rivulet with swimming/fishing holes, an estuary perfect for fishing and amazing views of The Hazzards and Freycinet National Park, and of Maria Island. Lisdillon itself is described by many of our guests as being perhaps the most beautiful place they have seen on their visit to Australia. With all this space, Lisdillon is the perfect place to go walking, swimming or fishing. Bring your kayaks and explore the river and coastline or bring your boat and launch it from the beach or from the MaST recommended boat ramp five minutes away. Perhaps you would prefer to just relax in the sun on the large deck, or in the comfortable lounge room in front of the fire, and read the books or play the games that are provided - and perhaps enjoy a glass of Lisdillon's own award winning wine. Or if you enjoy cooking, make the most of the well equipped kitchen! We are within easy driving distance of Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park to the North and Maria Island to the south, making us the perfect base as you explore the world famous scenic areas of Tasmania's East Coast. Or you may prefer to visit the local wine cellars and taste some of our world class Tasmanian wines and dine in some of the beautiful restaurants set among the vines. Enjoy a meal in one of the local cafes or restaurants in Swansea, Triabunna or Orford - all within half an hour's drive. Piermont, with its award winning restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and is only a ten minute drive. You might like to participate in some of the many activities available locally, including whale watching, bike riding or quad bike touring. With so much to do - and so much beauty to admire while just relaxing, Lisdillon is the perfect place for your holiday.
  • The Gregan Retreat was the perfect weekend away for two new Tasmanians. Location is brilliant only 1.5hrs north of Hobart, 20mins for Swansea (for the all important coffee) and about 1hr 15mins to the start of the Winglass Bay walk. The cottage was clean, very comfy, kitchen for cooking and a beautiful veranda to sit and read while looking over the river and grape vines. A short walk to a white sand beach (with some pretty decent surf while we were there). Katherine and her mother Jane were brilliant with communication, and while we kept to ourselves, the offers of wine tasting and local knowledge is a really nice touch. I would have no trouble recommending this little cottage as your east coast launch pad.

  • Staying at Lisdillon was a great experience! The cottage is cozy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Definitely try the Pinot Noir - the best I’ve had in Tassie so far!!

  • Very cute cottage on a cute little farm. You are quite removed from everything which is what we were looking for. There is no WiFi but we had fine cell reception. Plus we were looking to disconnect a bit anyhow so this place was everything we wanted. Katherine was gone but her mother was around to facilitate anything we needed; the two of them were both super fast to respond to anything we asked about. I would definitely stay here again!

  • A beautiful, serene place to explore. The beach was gorgeous at sunrise. The small cottage gave us a peaceful environment to enjoy each other’s company.

  • A wonderful stay in a truly unique location. A great spot for cutting off from the world and kicking back. Good base for trips out but retreating back for a glass of wine on the veranda. Perfect!

  • An amazing gorgeous oasis of calm. Luckily we were able to arrive in the light, as it was a bit tricky to locate,....but once installed, we were so delighted to call the Gregan Retreat our home. Tim put some logs in the wood burner, we had a bottle of Bundeburg Australian rum and two hot scallop pies from the local bakery and sat on the porch, watching a full moon rise over the distant hills and listening to the night sounds. The electric blanket made our cosy bedroom even more idyllic. The shower, towels, kitchen supplies made for a wonderful stay. A morning stroll down to the waves was delightful. Thank you for sharing your little plot of heaven,

Relax and have fun with family and friends while enjoying sensational sea views and a stunning landscape from this historic beach house; the perfect spot for a special holiday, a romantic getaway or as a base to explore the East Coast. The Saltworks Beach House is a waterfront cottage with short walks to secluded beaches for swimming and longer coastal walks. Close to an all weather boat ramp, it’s an ideal location for every season. It has a special 'wow' factor you will always remember.
The Saltworks Beach House has stunning and expansive water views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet Peninsular and Schouten Island. It is in a private location backed by a large olive grove. The beach house consists of an historic cottage, that was rebuilt from ruins in 1987 along with the construction of an adjoining building and garage. The renovated property was a finalist for the Australian Institute of Architect’s national Robin Boyd Award in that same year. The cottage was formerly the Overseer’s cottage of the Lisdillon Salt Works, built by James Radcliffe in the late 1830’s using convict labour. Today, the open planned cottage contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge where you can sit in front of an open fire, sip a glass of wine, read a book or watch TV. Attached to the cottage is a large sunroom providing outdoor seating and an additional dining area where you can take in the magnificent views regardless of the weather. The property comfortably sleeps 8 people across 4 bedrooms. Two decks connect the cottage to the adjoining building which features 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious sitting room off a sunlit gallery. A fourth bedroom and additional bathroom and laundry is available off the garage. The property features: 1 queen, 2 doubles and a king size bed that can be split to make 2 single beds. Talk to us, we will happily try to configure the sleeping arrangements to suit your needs and can pull out a trundle bed or sofa bed if required. See attached floor plan. Infants are welcome to stay free of charge, children over 2 years are counted as guests. The nearest shop is 20 minutes away so it's a good idea to plan your meals and think ahead. We provide a range of teas, a coffee plunger, milk, breakfast cereal, a rice cooker and cooking essentials such as herbs, spices, oil and sauces in a well equipped kitchen and an outside BBQ. The freshly pressed olive oil comes direct from the olive grove surrounding our property - known as Olives By the Sea.
The Saltworks Beach House takes its name from the historic Lisdillon Salt Works that operated in the 1830's and is now a small sleepy settlement consisting of around 25 large blocks, predominately weekenders with a few permanent residents. The properties are well spaced for privacy. As there is no through road, the Saltworks remains one of the east coast's best kept secrets, known predominatley by local fishermen in search of bream, crayfish, flathead, salmon, calamari, scollops and abalone. Getting there: The Saltworks Beach House is accessed via Saltworks Road which joins the Tasman Highway between Boomer Creek (to the South) and Lisdillon Rivulet (to the North). It sits almost exactly halfway between Triabunna (28 kms South - 22 mins) and Swansea (24 kms North - 19 mins).
  • Tam & Mercia’s beach house was so beautiful. The location, the house, the special touches were amazing. We very happily celebrated my birthday and our stay was something I’ll treasure. There was ample space for the 7 of us. Views were outstanding. Loved it all! Thanks so much.

    Catherine2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place - we were on a mini Honey-moon, and it was perfect for what we wanted, close enough, whilst still being remote and hide on the beach.

    Gabriel2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had SUCH a fabulous stay at Tam and Mercia’s place!! I knew it would be a great spot but it was more than great. We truly saved the best for last on our journey around the island! Thank you Tam and Mercia and we hope to be back again!!!

  • A beautifully appointed house in an amazing location. Stunning views over the ocean to the Freycinet Peninsula. The house was clean and comfortable. We all slept extremely well in the warm and cosy beds. Efficient communication with the hosts with prompt replies to any queries. Would love to return one day!

    Dana2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Tam and Mercia’s house. It was such a stunning location. So much history in the building. It had great toys for the kids and nice touches for adults like beautiful beach towels and views. The kids loved the beach and exploring. We wished we’d stayed another night.

    Anna2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning location right on a sandy beach with great views over Freycinet NP. The house itself is very comfortable and full of character. It's also very close to some wonderful vineyards. Would love to visit again in the not too distant future.

Have a taste of the simple life. This is a relaxed 1970s Tassie shack. Other than me picking up stuff and leaving if it’s a Friday, you will have the place to yourself. The room is not huge but has a double bed and wardrobe. Linen provided. Kitchen, lounge, dining are open plan with great views. Off the living area is a deck overlooking Prosser Bay. The area does not have NBN service so you will need to use your device data. Near the Marina in Triabunna there is free public wifi access.
There is a lovely, usually calm, sea view towards Triabunna across Prosser Bay. At the bottom of the garden ... there is access to the foreshore walking track. The kitchen, dining and living room spaces are open plan. The living areas and deck face north and the view. I have a small dog, a cat, and a chook who may be there for check in. Otherwise we'll be out of your way.
Triabunna is the 'gateway' to Maria Island. The Maria Island Ferry leaves from theTriabunna Marina. There is a coffee van at the Marina for those morning coffees, and a Fish Van that was recently rated as the best in Tasmania. One guest said they were the best scallops she had ever had.
  • the view from robyn's shack is beautiful, the amenities are simple but comfortable and stylish, and the ambience is peaceful. a lovely place to relax and unwind.

  • What a gem of a place. Great for exploring spaces on the East Coast. Cosy and peaceful - just the spot to relax in.

    Wendy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Robyn's place. The location is great 5min by car from the ferry for Maria island and a sea view! We had the place for ourselves which was great. The only small downside there is no mosquito nets (we got a few bites 😛).

  • A very peaceful and relaxing place to stay. I really enjoyed my time there and would love to come back again. Great communication and easy check-in. Highly recommended!

    Andrew2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A great little place on the water looking over Spring Bay. Very comfortable and every amenity in a classic Tassie shack... with all mod cons! Easy to communicate with Robyn. We recommend this charming spot to other guests. Handy for visiting Spring Bay Mill, going from strength to strength.

    Danielle2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Have a real good time in this room. enjoy the sea view

    Wei2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful stay at Robyns place and particularly enjoyed the view and some of the personal retro touches in the kitchen.

  • Beautiful stonework cottage, perfect for a family get away to a simpler life. The beach was a short walk away, listening to the birds whilst sitting quietly having a cup,of tea was a perfect way to recharge the batteries.

  • Amazing combination of great things - river, beach, farm, wine and history! The old Blacksmith’s cottage is beautifully kitted out and very comfortable and clean. We loved fishing, farm and beach walks and cricket in the backyard.

  • Fantastic historical cottage with modern amenities. Wonderful renovation, very well equipped, very quiet location on a beautiful stretch of coast.

    Chris2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this charming cottage. It was so lovely and clean, fully kitted out with decent saucepans & knives that actually cut. It was also lovely to have those little details that help, such as toilet paper, tea & coffee. We didn’t want for anything. The walks along the beach and the drives along the east coast were simply beautiful. This is a great spot for exploring the east coast or staying out, reading and enjoying the bird life. Delightful.

    Claire2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at this place over new years. It's quaint and charming.

  • Had a great stay with Ken! We loved the caravan it was cozy and had everything we could need. Had a wonderful sleep and a relaxing breakfast before heading off on more adventures along the East Coast. Orford is a cute little town and Ken is close to all amenities. He made sure we knew where everything was and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay!

    Emma2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Ken was super kind with us. He waited for us until very late to show us the place. I recommend it!

  • Ken & Pam's cozy caravan was absolutely perfect for me, especially as I was visiting Maria Island, such a fab location. It's near to local shops & a fab restaurant. Ken provided a lot of extras such as tea, coffee, fruit, orange juice & a little heater (which I was thankful for as the mornings were pretty cold). Ken always asked me if I needed anything, but also gave me my privacy. All in all I enjoyed my stay there & would highly recommend it.

    Ruth2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely first experience in caravan. Ken is an amazing kind and thoughtful host and the location is perfect to visit the area (Maria Island, Freycinet..) The caravan is clean, cosy and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. We deeply recommend.

  • Kens caravan was perfect for our one night stay. Ken makes the extra effort to make sure we were very comfortable.

    Leigh2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed a couple of nights in Kens cosy caravan. Ken met us upon arrival and showed us how everything worked and gave us some great breakfast supplies including milk, bread, butter, jam and fruit. The caravan is a small space, but has everything you need to be comfortable. We asked Ken if we could do a load of washing which he was very happy to accomodate, which was very nice. This is a great place to stop for a night or two as it’s close to Maria Island/Triabunna and not too far from Bicheno and other great places only 30-45 minutes drive away. It’s perfect for a very affordable and good value pit stop if you’re looking to have a nights sleep after a busy day of adventure instead of heading back to Hobart.

We think our architecturally designed house is a perfect romantic getaway. We built it for the view, so you can relax with a coffee/wine and enjoy the best of Tasmania's east coast, in comfort. Stroll along the deserted beach & read or listen to our record collection by the fire.
Private bush and beach setting. Very new architecturally designed one bedroom house. This is a quiet, 'non-touristy' area, but in view of Tasmania's East Coast icons. The beach is really long and it's often hard to spot others enjoying it. Fully self contained. All linen provided. The kitchen has a quality, oven, rangehood, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery etc, etc. No dishwasher I'm afraid. The bathroom has a big shower area, efficient flush toilet (on a septic system). There is no laundry. But there's a laundromat in Swansea, ten minutes away. We're on tank water, so there's no spa, and water isn't unlimited (10,000L for domestic plus 10,000L reserved for fire). There is a wood heater and plenty of wood if the weather turns nasty, but this is a warm house, so it's very unlikely you'll need it in the warmer months. There's a renovated record player and a library of records. Key collectable from key-safe at gate. We'll advise the code and give other introductory detail the day before you arrive. At times we'll be staying nearby and will be available to show guests the property. Very quiet area. Five acre lots with non permanent residents. The beach is often completely empty (all nine miles). Beautiful, abundant bird and wildlife. Open up the big sliders in the morning and listen to the amazing birdlife. Occasionally we see a snake in warmer months, so keep a watch out when you're on the beach track. You can catch flathead off the beach, if you're patient. A kayak will improve your chances. The beach faces due south and catches a consistent swell. It can be really fun to body surf, and occasionally it's wild. You need to be careful with very small children or non-proficient swimmers. But there are safe places for littleuns to swim nearby. From 'the Lighthouse' you are close (45 min) to iconic Coles Bay and Freycinet, and Maria Island ferry service (50min). We won't try to list all the east coast attractions here. Things to do at our place though, include: everything that might involve the view, and coffee and reading and games and music; beach walks or rides; swimming and body surfing; fishing; sailing. Visit yellowbanks on the lagoon, or the mouth of the lagoon where many people fish and swim, and the pelicans and waterbirds are amazing. Unfortunately we’re not equipped for wheel-chairs. Both external entrances require you to scale stairs. There is a caravan on the lower quarter of this five acre block, obscured by bush. At times we might be using this caravan, but our guests in the lighthouse will have complete privacy. Guests have a separate track to the beach.

  • Great place with stunning views over the Hazards. We didn’t see a single soul on the beach and it felt like our own private getaway. Perfect base for exploring the East coast wineries, day walks or just for relaxation. Highly recommend!!

  • From the moment we arrived, The Lighthouse felt like home. Tucked up in the sand dunes, this private little house had everything we needed for our stay. It was incredibly peaceful, cosy, and the views across the water are beyond beautiful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We found that the location was excellent for visiting East Coast wineries and Wineglass Bay. After a day of exploring, The Lighthouse is the perfect place to enjoy some local wine, admire the sunset and maybe spot a wallaby or two hopping by. The kitchen was fully-equipped and very functional, and we loved the array of books and board games in the house. We absolutely loved our stay at The Lighthouse. We wished we never had to leave!

In Swansea - central to all attractions of the east coast, situated in a quiet location - one minute walk to the beach. 2 bedrooms, queen and two single beds, beautiful outlook. Child safe deck looking out to the bay. Off-street parking. No wifi.
The house easily accommodates four people. There are lovely bay views from the house and the spacious, enclosed deck, very suitable for small children. A portacot and high chair are included. Quiet location, but with lots to occupy your time. Beach walks, golf, fishing, biking, swimming, bird watching, snorkelling, history museum, penguin viewing and dining are just a few of the opportunities here, and of course, visiting the iconic Freycinet National Park incorporating Wineglass Bay, and Friendly Beaches. Don't forget to visit Cape Tourville lighthouse, and the amazing short coastal walk on the clifftops, and Sleepy Bay. To the south, Maria Island is well worth a visit. There is a barbecue available. If you would like to use this please notify us on arrival, and clean after use. The wood heater has a fan switch for added warmth. If you need help to light the fire please ask. The queen beds has an electric blanket, hot water bottles and covers are provided for the single beds. There is a coffee machine for your convenience. You bring your favourite blend. No wifi, but you can access it in the town at the visitor centre, in numerous establishments, and at the online access centre at the local school.
We do accept one night stays if a single night exists between other bookings. Our accommodation is located in a quiet area, in a cul de sac with a number of permanent residents. We respect the rights of our neighbours to peace and tranquility. We hope you will too. The house is a twenty minute walk from the local shops or a two minute drive. It should be noted that the last local supermarket, IGA, closes at 7 pm. If you are arriving later, it would be prudent to collect supplies in Hobart or Launceston, or on route Sorell ( South) or Campbell Town ( north). Swansea has a small number of restaurant choices, a pharmacy, a health centre with doctors available, an historical museum and travel office where tours and ferries can be booked. Golfers may enjoy a round on the 9 hole Swansea course located on Waterloo Point. The cost is $15 for a day, or $50 for a week with golf clubs included. Free WiFi is available in the town in numerous locations including the online access centre, for forty minutes, and this time can be extended if you buy something locally to the value of $3. You then obtain a voucher.
  • Perfect location- perfect hosts ! If you have access to Coles or Woolworths before you get there stock up on what you need as only IGA in town it’s well stocked except for meat items before folk will be fine - house was well equipped and clean - we will be back x

Tasmania's multi-award winning luxury couples retreat. Deluxe boutique hideaway on Tasmania's beautiful east coast. Nestled in secluded bush land with views overlooking Great Oyster Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula. 2 night minimum stays apply.
Rocky Hills Retreat (RHR) provides a unique, lavish one or two person getaway built for exploration — of its vast bushland environment, its innovative architecture, art studio, art and book collection, or just the self. A unique modernist self-contained building, RHR has won awards for its architectural design. RHR reclines in the centre of 125 hectares close to Swansea on the beautiful East Coast of Tasmania and has transformed what was once a swathe of remnant Tasmanian bushland into a lavish retreat that provides complete privacy, seclusion and a true sense of getting away from it all. RHR comprises an elegantly simple open space featuring a luxurious king size bed, a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, laundry facilities and living area with wood fire and gas heating. Located on the property is a fully equipped standalone artist studio, a lovingly appointed former church that was relocated and renovated for this purpose. The studio is nestled into the bush, five minutes’ walk from the main building and invites guests to explore the creativity within.
Rocky Hills Retreat is nestled on 250 acres of pristine Tasmanian bushland on the East Coast. Perched on a hilltop with views to Great Oyster Bay, this is a very special retreat for just one couple. There is a fully equipped Art Studio on the property and plenty of walking trails. The township of Swansea is about 15 minutes from the property, so all amenities are nearby and accessible if you wish to come out of hiding. Our guests often travel to Coles Bay, to the Freycinet National Park, or to Maria Island to explore the convict heritage of the area. There is also big sections of the Convict Trail which can be a wonderful hike. Fishing charters can be arranged too, depending on the season.
  • We had a wonderful time at Rocky Hills. The location is amazing - one of a kind. You can spend a whole day there without leaving the property and still feel that you've been 'out in nature'. The beautiful Chapel made into art studio was an enjoyable experience too.

Dramatic, elemental, wild Thalia Haven is set on a private 130-acre wooded peninsula surrounded by the crystal-blue waters of renowned Great Oyster Bay. Experience Tasmania's wild East Coast from a unique perspective. Five kilometers of coastline include your own exclusive golden sand beach. Accommodation is in four ancient stone bedrooms clustered around flowered courtyards on the ocean's edge.
Thalia is a bold showcase of self-reliance: your water, electricity and warmth are drawn from its land, breezes, and sunshine. Rustic, yes. But fear not: all the comforts you will need to relax, enjoy and explore are at hand.
Thalia is set in a wild, remote location on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast.
  • Amazing! Stunning! Magic! We spent the last two days of our honeymoon here & we wished we could have stayed for a week. It’s such a beautiful place with incredible ocean views & of course the most photographed bath in Australia (which is divine). The kitchen is extraordinary & the fireplace grand & regal. We had baths under the stars & swam at the private beach. Bring all your own food & drinks & then there is no need to leave. Thalia Haven feels like it could be anywhere in the world, after two nights our souls felt totally replenished. Our time here will remain in our hearts forever & we can’t wait to return with our family & friends. Thalia Haven is heaven in Tassie!!!

  • This place is stunning. I’ve travelled all over the world and this location and house are absolutely beautiful and works class. Not for everyone though as it is a little rugged with no TV, washer or dryer but it has all the other luxuries. Apart from the main bedroom all of the other the bedrooms were seperate from the main house so not ideal for young kids. We loved it though and will be back next time in tassie.

  • At first I thought it was a disappointment to be located in the pictorial wasteland that is developing Swanwick, away from Coles Bay, but the amenities and view transcended back blocks Swanwick. Ultra modern amenities, and the visuals from the beach, only several hundred metres away, overlooking the Swan River mouth and Dolphin Sound, are magnificent. Stunning sunset, with great photos for memories.

    Evan2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super stylish house with an excellent view in a private setting to relax. We particularly enjoyed the lounge room as it had a contemporary design and the television was well equipped with our favourite movie streaming app. Also very happy with the service we received when we had an issue. • The Coach House looked outstanding in the photos on Airbnb but they did this piece of paradise no justice at all! We spent two weeks at the property and can honestly say that it was one of the best holidays we have had as a family. There was nothing the property needed to make it perfect and it was made even better thanks to the wonderful hospitality of the hosts.....thank you! We will come back one day.

  • Our group of 7 had the best time at Lisdillon and were in awe of the beauty of the property from the Coach House to the Private Beaches. The property is in the perfect location for day trips to Maria Island, Freycinet, winery visits and so much more. We also had as much fun spending downtime on the property enjoying the beauty and comfort of the Coach House and its gardens and exploring the private beaches. We can not recommend Lisdillon enough as an amazing place to unwind and relax.

  • Dyranda's place is a beautiful escape and an idyllic haven to relax in, whilst exploring the Freycinet area. The gardens are beautiful and on a sunny day, quite pleasant to relax in and enjoy a garden dinner. It's a short drive from Swansea where there are a few restaurants to choose from. Reading reviews prior to staying at the cottage, we were very conscious of mosquitos in the house and kept all doors/windows closed. It was unbelievable how many mosquitos there were in the evening and no idea how they were getting inside. It might be worth bringing repellent or fly spray. Swansea itself is a great base to explore Freycinet National Park with restaurants nearby. Bear-in-mind, Swansea restaurants all close at 8 pm and the grocery stores at 6-6:30 pm. Overall, a nice place to stay for a couple of nights on our Freycinet adventure.

  • Had a lovely stay at Keefer’s Cottage. Cosy period features with all the modern amenities and outdoor spaces to enjoy the sun. Excellent location - very private but only a few minutes to town. Beautiful orchards with many birds and bunnies.

    Gaby2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • The coziness and location was perfect! We would happily come and stay again. We recommend Keefers cottage to anyone staying in the Swansea area. We did boat tours from Coles Bay and Triabunna so the cottage was perfectly situated in between.

Swansea on the Bay is a large holiday home accommodating up to 8 people very comfortably. Central to all attractions of the east coast, situated in a quiet location - one minute walk to the beach. 4 bedrooms, two queen, one double and two single beds. Two living areas and two large bathrooms. There is a beautiful outlook from the large covered deck looking out to the bay. Off-street parking. No wifi, so if this is an issue, reconsider your booking.
There are two sets of four stairs with handrails inside the house. Guests have access to the whole house, deck and garden. We reserve the right to enter the garden during your stay for watering and maintenance.
If you are arriving later, it would be prudent to collect supplies in Hobart or Launceston, or on route through Sorell ( South) or Campbell Town ( north). Swansea has a small number of restaurant choices, a pharmacy, a health centre with doctors available, an historical museum and travel office where tours and ferries can be booked. Golfers may enjoy a round on the 9 hole Swansea course located on Waterloo Point. The cost is $15 for a day's play, $50 for a week, with golf clubs included. Free WiFi is available in the town in numerous locations including the online access centre, for forty minutes, and this time can be extended if you buy something locally to the value of $3. You then obtain a voucher.

Get away from it all in this beautiful three-bedroom cottage. At its heart is the original 1820s Shepherd's Hut. Added to over the years Dovedale is perfect for a city escape, writers retreat, baby-moon, girls weekender, or family farm stay. The cottage is cosy enough for a romantic get away and big enough for a family. Overlooking Ravensdale Rivulet and located halfway between Hobart and Coles Bay on the Great Eastern Drive, Dovedale is a perfect base to explore the magic Tasmanian East Coast.
Dovedale has three generous bedrooms, large lounge / dining area with open fireplace, desk / office area, fully-equipped country kitchen with wood heater and outdoor dining/picnic area with fire pit for clear starry evenings. Wake up to uninterrupted views across 2,500 acres of Tasmanian farm land and rolling hills stretching as far as the eye can see. Dovedale offers fresh local bread, farm eggs, Bream Creek dairy milk, and all of the condiments required to cook breakfast or dinner. You can relax by the open fire with a glass of excellent East Coast Pinot Noir or go for a walk up into the hills where you might spot a wombat or echidna or watch a Sea Eagle soar.
Dovedale Cottage is situated on Ravensdale Farm at Little Swanport on the Great Eastern Drive. We are in an ideal location, far enough away to leave city lights behind but only a 100km drive out of Hobart. Dovedale is the ideal base to explore Maria Island. Catch the ferry, spend the day exploring the magic of Maria and then return to Dovedale to curl up in front of the fire. We are 5 minutes drive to the white sands and pristine waters of Great Oyster Bay. Situated right on the Great Eastern Drive Dovedale is the perfect base to explore the pristine East Coast.
  • Lovely place to stay. Very quiet and very homely!

    Katja2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second trip to Dovedale cottage. It’s such a great location to base yourself, it’s a short distance to Triabunna (to get to Maria), Orford and Swansea. The cottage has so many cute corners to settle in with a book, a comfy couch to laze around on and an ever so inviting kitchen space with wood fire. Maggie and Jim are so accommodating and have the most adorable little welcoming committee (the corgis).

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage with great hosts. We had a great time

    Scarlett2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in such a tranquil location. Perfect home base to explore further north or south.

    Pip2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage away from the hustle and bustle. Great host, cosy accomodation and detailed local tips :)

    Louisa2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy cottage and the perfect place to unwind. Relaxing on the generous lounge in the front room, the large windows framing the towering Eucalypt trees, the sheep grazing in the paddocks and the afternoon light flickering on the landscape. Our time at 'Dovedale' was the perfect blend of doing and being. An easy drive north to the seaside town of Swansea, or a swim at either Saltworks or Bolton Beach. Back south to the town of Triabunna for the Maria Island ferry, IGA groceries and the Fish Van or onto Orford for delightful walks, views and the most stunning Spring Beach. Maggie provides many local tips and directions. When we weren't out exploring the East Coast, we were content with the peace and quiet, comfy beds and open fire in the cottage. It would be our recommendation to stay at least two nights, we stayed six and we still didn't want to leave. A hidden gem indeed.

The magnificent 1832 log cabin that has been restored since then in 2005 and is now available to be booked out by the public. The log cabin has amazing views of rushy lagoon and the working farm. You can sit back by the fire and enjoy the view or even lay back in the bath and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is also a private veranda, hot water, shower, toilets, bath, washing machine and electric blankets. The log cabin can sleep up to 7 people if sharing or 5 singles.
  • If you love rustic history set in country setting this is a beautiful place to stay. I loved reading about the history of the 1832 cottage and sitting in front of the fireplace at night. Debbielee was a great host.

    Ro2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What an authentic experience of life in the 1800's. The cottage is so well done keeping the rawness of the original cottage with a few comfort items added in like heaters and electric blankets. The special delivery of bacon eggs and bread was lovely. Thanks Debielee

    Mario2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful log cabin, lots of history. Warm and cosy, comfortable beds with lovely linen, bacon and eggs for breakfast - wonderful. Thanks Debbielee

    Barbara2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed the cabin! After the initial shock of no internet & phone access and how remote the cabin was we 100% embraced it & loved it!! The history of the cabin was enhanced by the book and photo album in the cabin. We enjoyed the fire & board games. We hope to return one day

    Amanda2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A really unique and authentic stay. We took a walk around the farm, enjoyed cosy woodfires in the cabin, learned a lot about Fonthill history and cooked up both dinner and breakfast while we were there. One of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at and would highly recommend.

    Andrew2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing experience. Living as they did in the early 1800's. What a beautiful log cabin. We feel very lucky that we had the opportunity to stay. Very welcoming and helpful host. Lovely eggs, bacon and bread as well as all the staples. Would definitely stay again. The whole family loved it! Can't do this in Western Australia! ❤️❤️

Scarecrow Cottage is a rustic & partly updated cottage situated a short 5 minute stroll from Swansea's shops, restaurants and the sea. A great location from which to experience the Great Eastern Drive, check out Freycinet National Park or just enjoy the laid back coastal vibe of Swansea and this beautiful part of the world. Enjoy relaxing by the fire and views of the stars at night. Self contained. No Wifi (public Wifi is 5 minutes walk away). More photos on instagram @scarecrowcottage
Scarecrow Cottage includes two very cosy bedrooms, living room with open fireplace, combined kitchen/dining, bathroom and a large and tranquil private backyard with native bush garden. One bedroom has a queen sized bed and the other has a double bed. Due to the age of the home the bedrooms are small. The whole cottage will be yours. It is a basic and cosy homely setting in a historic cottage, rather than modern luxury hotel accommodation that you will stay in when booking our partly updated 1800s cottage. Best suited to couples and small families looking for a homely environment. Entertainment includes a TV and DVD player, a small library and some boardgames. Basic cooking facilities are available including full oven, kettle, microwave and toaster. We have a beautiful fireplace (please bring firelighters and matches) but there is also electric heating should you wish. There is also an older style washing machine which you are free to use. Portacot available on request (linen not provided for portacot). If there is anything we can provide for your stay, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Like all spots on the East Coast, Swansea is a quaint coastal town, with limited opening hours at night. Bring your own supplies, or check out the local eateries early before they close. Stock up on supplies at Sorell if you are coming from Hobart. Dining options include the Homestead Restaurant at Piermont, the RSL, Artifakt, Saltshaker, and the Barkmill Tavern (amongst others). We are 5 minutes walking distance from Swansea's main restaurants and shops. Within easy access of two beaches, one being approximately 5 minutes walk and the other being approximately 10 minutes walk from the cottage. Within easy reach of oyster farms, the berry farm and wineries. Some of our guests have loved fishing down at the jetty just minutes walk from the cottage.
  • Great location, just a short stroll from town. Beautifully appointed little cottage with gorgeous decor. Loved the fire place. Perfect for a small family or couples get away. Great facilities making it a very comfortable homey stay.

    Grahame2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This comfortable spot is right on the beach and quite close to the National Park entrance. A car is essential . We parked our car on the street though there is parking on site - on the street was easier and there is very little difference in the distance to walk. Ideal for those who like to fish. A bit too cold for us to swim. The unit is stocked with a toaster and electric BBQ and microwave as well as cereal, bread (in freezer), jams, butter and juice. 4 rooms - bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge with tv. No wifi. If you want to self- cater, best to buy supplies before arrival at Coles Bay. There are a couple of small supermarkets and eateries within a short driving distance.

Centrally located in the township of Coles Bay proper, Thirty Eight Freycinet 2 is a warm and well appointed studio apartment within 500 meters of Coles Bay's several beaches and local shops, cafes and bakery. Facing bushland, our unit adjoins our larger apartment but provides a quiet and private setting from which to explore Coles Bay and the spectacular Freycinet National Park. Entrance to the park is 800 away meters and the start of the famous walk to Wineglass Bay is only 4.5 km away.
The unit is private and faces a bush reserve. It’s one room, spacious and clean. There’s a large balcony and though we don’t have sea or mountain views we do provide a simple, affordable and convenient location from which to explore the National Park. A 5 minute walk in either direction will take you to beautiful beaches and spectacular views. Each of Coles Bay’s eateries and shopping area are only 5 mins walk away as well. A 10 minute drive will take you to the start of the walk to Wineglass Bay.
The village of Coles Bay is located on the doorstep of the World renowned Freycinet National Park characterised by the pink granite peaks of the Hazzards, and the stunning white sands and turquoise waters of Wineglass Bay and the Friendly Beaches. Populated by shacks and holiday homes the popular township population swells over summer and becomes a thriving township of holiday makers and tourists.
  • Great place to stay and explore the surrounds. Walking distance to cafe and shops was really convenient and the place was cosy and comfortable. We'd definitely recommend staying here if you're coming to Freycinet. Shops do close early so make sure you've got a food supply if you're arriving late.

  • Quiet, comfortable, relaxing place. Owners responsive to several questions I had. A great place for exploring nearby Freycinet National Park.

    Robin2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great location close to the National Park & the town. A comfortable space for two with great amenities. A minor issue was quickly responded to.

  • My partner and I had a great time in Coles bay. Tim & Archana’s place was perfect to come back to after a day walking and swimming in Freycinet National Park, which was only a 10min drive away to the visitors centre. Walking distance to the local Coles bay restaurants, pub, fish & chips and ice cream. Would recommend staying here. Thanks for having us!

  • Lovely place with nice decor The only thing I would mention is being supplies with you as hardly any items in pantry and none individually wrapped. When compared with other Airbnb places significantly less items in pantry. This place also asks that you pack away dishes from the dishwasher and using the bbq apparently will add extra charge so we didn’t use it. This seems very different to any other Airbnb Owners have designed an amazing house but the property management lacks

    Ana2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning residence.. would highly recommend. We unfortunately had wet weather for our stay however the views across the water are absolutely stunning... And only matched by the quality of the property. The place was clean throughout, the amenities provided excellent and had everything you could possibly need for a short or longer stay. Coles Bay was a short 5 minute drive, and Freyinet wasn't much further. We will be staying here again.

    Tristan2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing property in an awesome location! We loved the views over the bay and watching the sunset every evening. The design and decor is just stunning and it’s a great base for exploring Freycinet National Park and the surrounding areas.

  • Such a beautiful brand new house with a stunning view. Huge comfy beds with views and lovely big bathrooms and showers. Huge deck to sit out in and have a few drinks and bbq watching the sunset. Highly recommend this place!

  • This little “White House” was absolutely perfect for our needs and a great base to explore Maria Island and Coles Bay. It was impeccably clean and beautifully presented. The kitchen had everything we needed including quality pots and pans, nice glass wear and an extensively stocked pantry. (Don’t shop before checking it out.) Bed and bathroom linens were crisp, white and clean. The spa was a welcome retreat after a long day hiking. There is also a sauna but we didn’t use it. There is an IGA, butcher and chemist in Triabunna. We also enjoyed some freshly picked apples from the back yard. Thanks, Chris. I have no reservations recommending this lovely property.

  • Host Bel made us feel so welcome. Her communication was excellent and she was so helpful. We asked Bel if we could park our car on the property before check in so we could take the morning ferry to Maria Island. This was no trouble for Bel and very much appreciated by us. The location of the house is perfect: 300 metres from the ferry. I would recommend you stay here if you want to explore Maria Island over a couple of days but don’t want to camp on the island!! ;) Bel’s accommodation was absolutely sparkling clean, filled with light and sunshine. With all this space, Lisdillon is the perfect place to go walking, swimming or fishing. Bring your kayaks and explore the river and coastline or bring your boat and launch it from the beach or from the MaST recommended boat ramp five minutes away. Perhaps you would prefer to just relax in the sun in the garden, or in the comfortable lounge room in front of the fire, and read the books or play the games that are provided - and perhaps enjoy a glass of Lisdillon's own award winning wine. Or if you enjoy cooking, make the most of the fully equipped kitchen! We are within easy driving distance of Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park to the North and Maria Island to the south, making us the perfect base as you explore the world famous scenic areas of Tasmania's East Coast. • The Shepherds Cottage is an amazing stay. So well appointed and fitted out with modern comforts and amenities. Albeit the location is not in a major town, it was a very quick and easy drive to either Swansea or Tribuanna. I highly recommend this stay based on it's seclusion, privacy and beauty.

  • Had a great stay, very peaceful and scenic. Too bad about the cold and rain but it didn't detract from having a good time. The kitchen had absolutely everything you could possibly want to prepare full meals. Be aware the nearest store is 20 km away, just needs some planning. Very pleasant.

  • Tranquil and picturesque stay, great to wind down in a historical farm cottage. Katherine and Jane were great hosts with clear and responsive communication.

  • Impeccably clean, cosy and steeped in history. The most wonderful view of roses, river, and ocean outside of the bathroom window. A beautiful coastline - we had fun fishing at a nearby beach, and cooking it in the excellent kitchen! Perfectly accompanied by a bottle of Pinot from the Lisdillon vineyard.

  • Just an amazing place and location. Loved the beach and historic charm of the place. A short jaunt to Cole's Bay. And really close to Hobart airport

  • Lisdillon is a slice of paradise. The cottage had great amenities and a kitchen with every appliance. It is a great place to escape and relax looking out over the fabulous rivulet and bird life.
