Places to stay in Lisdillon Beach
The Gregan Retreat's located on a vineyard and sheep farm called Lisdillon Estate. The house comfortably fits two and overlooks the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet which flows down to Lisdillon's private beach, only a five minute stroll away. Included is the option of a free tasting of our internationally award winning wine.
The house has a large balcony to relax and enjoy the view of the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet. It has a fireplace to keep you toasty warm through those winter nights (however as we don't tend to do as many firewood runs in summer there is a chance there will be no firewood in that season). We offer a relaxed stay on a farm. We have a private beach which is so untouched that many rare birds nest there. We also have a private river which is brimming with a variety of fish if you enjoy fishing (strictly catch and release). Bring your kayaks and float down the rivulet to the beach. If you have a boat you can take it out to the sea and fish in front of our property (a list of species you can catch is available below). The house comfortably fits two people. It has a kitchen/living room, bathroom and separate bedroom with queensized bed. The property is situated 21 kilometres outside of the nearest town of Swansea, and an hour and a half from Hobart. Swansea and its surroundings have some well-known gourmet restaurants, the closest of which, Piermont, is only a ten minute drive away if guests wish to indulge themselves. It is a fifty minute drive to Coles Bay, and the world famous Freycinet National Park. Several vineyards set amidst the stunning scenery of the east coast of Tasmania, are within easy driving distance. Taste the high quality wine of Milton and Springvale at their cellar doors. Perfect for a relaxed weekend away - try some of Lisdillon's delicious, internationally award winning pinot noir or sauvignon blanc! For the fishermen guests, the sea out the front of our property offers: - bay flathead - king flathead - cod - trumpeter - trevally - salmon - perch - squid - crayfish The Lisdillon Rivulet has: - bream - oysters - trevally mullet - Australian salmon - brown trout - native galaxia -occasionally flathead - eels - grayling, aka cucumber herring
Lisdillon is a 6000 acre working sheep farm and vineyard. Its title includes three white, sandy beaches to low water mark, as well as the reef off the main beach. It also includes a rivulet with swimming/fishing holes, an estuary perfect for fishing and amazing views of The Hazzards and Freycinet National Park, and of Maria Island. Lisdillon itself is described by many of our guests as being perhaps the most beautiful place they have seen on their visit to Australia. With all this space, Lisdillon is the perfect place to go walking, swimming or fishing. Bring your kayaks and explore the river and coastline or bring your boat and launch it from the beach or from the MaST recommended boat ramp five minutes away. Perhaps you would prefer to just relax in the sun on the large deck, or in the comfortable lounge room in front of the fire, and read the books or play the games that are provided - and perhaps enjoy a glass of Lisdillon's own award winning wine. Or if you enjoy cooking, make the most of the well equipped kitchen! We are within easy driving distance of Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park to the North and Maria Island to the south, making us the perfect base as you explore the world famous scenic areas of Tasmania's East Coast. Or you may prefer to visit the local wine cellars and taste some of our world class Tasmanian wines and dine in some of the beautiful restaurants set among the vines. Enjoy a meal in one of the local cafes or restaurants in Swansea, Triabunna or Orford - all within half an hour's drive. Piermont, with its award winning restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and is only a ten minute drive. You might like to participate in some of the many activities available locally, including whale watching, bike riding or quad bike touring. With so much to do - and so much beauty to admire while just relaxing, Lisdillon is the perfect place for your holiday.
  • The Gregan Retreat was the perfect weekend away for two new Tasmanians. Location is brilliant only 1.5hrs north of Hobart, 20mins for Swansea (for the all important coffee) and about 1hr 15mins to the start of the Winglass Bay walk. The cottage was clean, very comfy, kitchen for cooking and a beautiful veranda to sit and read while looking over the river and grape vines. A short walk to a white sand beach (with some pretty decent surf while we were there). Katherine and her mother Jane were brilliant with communication, and while we kept to ourselves, the offers of wine tasting and local knowledge is a really nice touch. I would have no trouble recommending this little cottage as your east coast launch pad.

  • Staying at Lisdillon was a great experience! The cottage is cozy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Definitely try the Pinot Noir - the best I’ve had in Tassie so far!!

  • Very cute cottage on a cute little farm. You are quite removed from everything which is what we were looking for. There is no WiFi but we had fine cell reception. Plus we were looking to disconnect a bit anyhow so this place was everything we wanted. Katherine was gone but her mother was around to facilitate anything we needed; the two of them were both super fast to respond to anything we asked about. I would definitely stay here again!

  • A beautiful, serene place to explore. The beach was gorgeous at sunrise. The small cottage gave us a peaceful environment to enjoy each other’s company.

  • A wonderful stay in a truly unique location. A great spot for cutting off from the world and kicking back. Good base for trips out but retreating back for a glass of wine on the veranda. Perfect!

  • An amazing gorgeous oasis of calm. Luckily we were able to arrive in the light, as it was a bit tricky to locate,....but once installed, we were so delighted to call the Gregan Retreat our home. Tim put some logs in the wood burner, we had a bottle of Bundeburg Australian rum and two hot scallop pies from the local bakery and sat on the porch, watching a full moon rise over the distant hills and listening to the night sounds. The electric blanket made our cosy bedroom even more idyllic. The shower, towels, kitchen supplies made for a wonderful stay. A morning stroll down to the waves was delightful. Thank you for sharing your little plot of heaven,

  • Beautiful stonework cottage, perfect for a family get away to a simpler life. The beach was a short walk away, listening to the birds whilst sitting quietly having a cup,of tea was a perfect way to recharge the batteries.

  • Amazing combination of great things - river, beach, farm, wine and history! The old Blacksmith’s cottage is beautifully kitted out and very comfortable and clean. We loved fishing, farm and beach walks and cricket in the backyard.

  • Fantastic historical cottage with modern amenities. Wonderful renovation, very well equipped, very quiet location on a beautiful stretch of coast.

    Chris2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this charming cottage. It was so lovely and clean, fully kitted out with decent saucepans & knives that actually cut. It was also lovely to have those little details that help, such as toilet paper, tea & coffee. We didn’t want for anything. The walks along the beach and the drives along the east coast were simply beautiful. This is a great spot for exploring the east coast or staying out, reading and enjoying the bird life. Delightful.

  • We absolutely loved our stay at this place over new years. It's quaint and charming.

  • For a secluded self contained getaway, the location of this place is just magical. We got a couple of families together and hired a couple of the houses here. Great place to hang out while the kids ran round. A short walk to the beach for a swim. Beautiful wine from the vineyard easy to arrange.

  • Katherine’s place was extremely comfortable and was a great spot to show off to our friends who haven’t been to Tassie before. Beds were super comfy and coffee machine was a nice touch. We loved waking around the property and can recommend Katherine as a great host.

  • Just amazing! Very few stations left like this in Australia / history, buildings and location. That alone is worth dropping everything to experience! We were treated to everything you could ever want / from perfect kitchen to amazing comfortable beds and firewood / private beaches and a river to die for! Absolutely so blessed to have experienced this place. Thanks so much Jane and Katherine

  • The Coach House looked outstanding in the photos on Airbnb but they did this piece of paradise no justice at all! We spent two weeks at the property and can honestly say that it was one of the best holidays we have had as a family. There was nothing the property needed to make it perfect and it was made even better thanks to the wonderful hospitality of the hosts.....thank you! We will come back one day.

  • Our group of 7 had the best time at Lisdillon and were in awe of the beauty of the property from the Coach House to the Private Beaches. The property is in the perfect location for day trips to Maria Island, Freycinet, winery visits and so much more. We also had as much fun spending downtime on the property enjoying the beauty and comfort of the Coach House and its gardens and exploring the private beaches. We can not recommend Lisdillon enough as an amazing place to unwind and relax.

  • We had a very charming stay here. The farm house has been updated and is quiet. It’s was a wonderful place to re-energize and explore the coast.

  • Absolutely stunning location with picture perfect setting. The coach house is comfortable, welcoming, cosy and relaxing. Beds were all super comfortable, sofa beds were outstanding as extra beds and the house was such a wonderful and inviting space to be in. Fantastic kitchen, great lounge and fireplace, gorgeous reading nook that you could easily get comfortable in all afternoon. The instructions for accessing the property were fantastic and the location makes for a perfect relaxing hideaway. Highly recommend this space, excellent price for the property and even better than our expectations! Thank you!!

Relax and have fun with family and friends while enjoying sensational sea views and a stunning landscape from this historic beach house; the perfect spot for a special holiday, a romantic getaway or as a base to explore the East Coast. The Saltworks Beach House is a waterfront cottage with short walks to secluded beaches for swimming and longer coastal walks. Close to an all weather boat ramp, it’s an ideal location for every season. It has a special 'wow' factor you will always remember.
The Saltworks Beach House has stunning and expansive water views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet Peninsular and Schouten Island. It is in a private location backed by a large olive grove. The beach house consists of an historic cottage, that was rebuilt from ruins in 1987 along with the construction of an adjoining building and garage. The renovated property was a finalist for the Australian Institute of Architect’s national Robin Boyd Award in that same year. The cottage was formerly the Overseer’s cottage of the Lisdillon Salt Works, built by James Radcliffe in the late 1830’s using convict labour. Today, the open planned cottage contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge where you can sit in front of an open fire, sip a glass of wine, read a book or watch TV. Attached to the cottage is a large sunroom providing outdoor seating and an additional dining area where you can take in the magnificent views regardless of the weather. The property comfortably sleeps 8 people across 4 bedrooms. Two decks connect the cottage to the adjoining building which features 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious sitting room off a sunlit gallery. A fourth bedroom and additional bathroom and laundry is available off the garage. The property features: 1 queen, 2 doubles and a king size bed that can be split to make 2 single beds. Talk to us, we will happily try to configure the sleeping arrangements to suit your needs and can pull out a trundle bed or sofa bed if required. See attached floor plan. Infants are welcome to stay free of charge, children over 2 years are counted as guests. The nearest shop is 20 minutes away so it's a good idea to plan your meals and think ahead. We provide a range of teas, a coffee plunger, milk, breakfast cereal, a rice cooker and cooking essentials such as herbs, spices, oil and sauces in a well equipped kitchen and an outside BBQ. The freshly pressed olive oil comes direct from the olive grove surrounding our property - known as Olives By the Sea.
The Saltworks Beach House takes its name from the historic Lisdillon Salt Works that operated in the 1830's and is now a small sleepy settlement consisting of around 25 large blocks, predominately weekenders with a few permanent residents. The properties are well spaced for privacy. As there is no through road, the Saltworks remains one of the east coast's best kept secrets, known predominatley by local fishermen in search of bream, crayfish, flathead, salmon, calamari, scollops and abalone. Getting there: The Saltworks Beach House is accessed via Saltworks Road which joins the Tasman Highway between Boomer Creek (to the South) and Lisdillon Rivulet (to the North). It sits almost exactly halfway between Triabunna (28 kms South - 22 mins) and Swansea (24 kms North - 19 mins).
  • We had SUCH a fabulous stay at Tam and Mercia’s place!! I knew it would be a great spot but it was more than great. We truly saved the best for last on our journey around the island! Thank you Tam and Mercia and we hope to be back again!!!

  • A beautifully appointed house in an amazing location. Stunning views over the ocean to the Freycinet Peninsula. The house was clean and comfortable. We all slept extremely well in the warm and cosy beds. Efficient communication with the hosts with prompt replies to any queries. Would love to return one day!

    Dana2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Tam and Mercia’s house. It was such a stunning location. So much history in the building. It had great toys for the kids and nice touches for adults like beautiful beach towels and views. The kids loved the beach and exploring. We wished we’d stayed another night.

  • Historic home with gorgeous views

    Anna2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning location right on a sandy beach with great views over Freycinet NP. The house itself is very comfortable and full of character. It's also very close to some wonderful vineyards. Would love to visit again in the not too distant future.

  • Fantastic house in a beautiful section of coastline. Perfect place to unwind and switch off. Accommodates a large group really easily, with lots of spaces to retreat as well.

    Chris2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed as 2 families at Saltworks beach house. We had a great time - the house is very well equipped and comfortable, and the outdoor space and location to the beach is amazing! With the incredible weather we had, we spent a lot of our time outside and at the secluded beach which is a short walk away. The hosts were Super responsive and really friendly. It’s an ideal location if you want some time to chill out and relax. Nearest town is about 20 mins drive but it’s a beautiful scenic drive so no issue. The aircon was also so welcomed on the 41 degree day! Great addition to the house. My only tip is to keep the (flyscreen) doors shut to make sure you keep any creepy crawlies out! But great stay and would highly recommend!

    Angela2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Location. Location. Location! Oh, and a wonderful home in which to enjoy it. A truly stunning spot with uninterrupted views of the sea in both directions. Very thoughtfully kitted out by Tam and Mercia, who generously ensured that some very welcome treats and essentials were left for our arrival. We absolutely loved the log fire which was left ready prepared for us to light and enjoy when we arrived. Oh and a superb shower too! The perfect first introduction to both Tasmania and, for us, to Airbnb. We'll be repeating both!

  • Lovely little cottage away from the hustle and bustle. Great host, cosy accomodation and detailed local tips :)

    Louisa2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy cottage and the perfect place to unwind. Relaxing on the generous lounge in the front room, the large windows framing the towering Eucalypt trees, the sheep grazing in the paddocks and the afternoon light flickering on the landscape. Our time at 'Dovedale' was the perfect blend of doing and being. An easy drive north to the seaside town of Swansea, or a swim at either Saltworks or Bolton Beach. Back south to the town of Triabunna for the Maria Island ferry, IGA groceries and the Fish Van or onto Orford for delightful walks, views and the most stunning Spring Beach. Maggie provides many local tips and directions. When we weren't out exploring the East Coast, we were content with the peace and quiet, comfy beds and open fire in the cottage. It would be our recommendation to stay at least two nights, we stayed six and we still didn't want to leave. A hidden gem indeed.

  • The first thing that came to my mind when I entered Dovedale cottage is "waouw"... The place has a very special atmosphere, so nicely decorated and designed..it's an invitation to just laying on the couch and stay there hours just contemplating the great views on the outside... Sparkling clean and great, easy communication with Maggie. We spent one afternoon, night, morning with my family there and we'll keep the best memories from those moments together in this unique setting

  • Maggie and Jim were great hosts and we highly recommend to stay at their cottage on their beautiful farm. we enjoyed the extraordinary view and the silence. The happy greeting of the dogs and the little lambs as well as the possums around the house at night made our stay even more special.

Dramatic, elemental, wild Thalia Haven is set on a private 130-acre wooded peninsula surrounded by the crystal-blue waters of renowned Great Oyster Bay. Experience Tasmania's wild East Coast from a unique perspective. Five kilometers of coastline include your own exclusive golden sand beach. Accommodation is in four ancient stone bedrooms clustered around flowered courtyards on the ocean's edge.
Thalia is a bold showcase of self-reliance: your water, electricity and warmth are drawn from its land, breezes, and sunshine. Rustic, yes. But fear not: all the comforts you will need to relax, enjoy and explore are at hand.
Thalia is set in a wild, remote location on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast.
  • Amazing! Stunning! Magic! We spent the last two days of our honeymoon here & we wished we could have stayed for a week. It’s such a beautiful place with incredible ocean views & of course the most photographed bath in Australia (which is divine). The kitchen is extraordinary & the fireplace grand & regal. We had baths under the stars & swam at the private beach. Bring all your own food & drinks & then there is no need to leave. Thalia Haven feels like it could be anywhere in the world, after two nights our souls felt totally replenished. Our time here will remain in our hearts forever & we can’t wait to return with our family & friends. Thalia Haven is heaven in Tassie!!!

Thalia is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen and we can’t wait to come back! Thanks again Susan, what a stunnin part of the world

  • This place is stunning. I’ve travelled all over the world and this location and house are absolutely beautiful and works class. Not for everyone though as it is a little rugged with no TV, washer or dryer but it has all the other luxuries. Apart from the main bedroom all of the other the bedrooms were seperate from the main house so not ideal for young kids. We loved it though and will be back next time in tassie.

A unique modernist self-contained building, RHR has won awards for its architectural design. RHR reclines in the centre of 125 hectares close to Swansea on the beautiful East Coast of Tasmania and has transformed what was once a swathe of remnant Tasmanian bushland into a lavish retreat that provides complete privacy, seclusion and a true sense of getting away from it all. RHR comprises an elegantly simple open space featuring a luxurious king size bed, a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, laundry facilities and living area with wood fire and gas heating. Located on the property is a fully equipped standalone artist studio, a lovingly appointed former church that was relocated and renovated for this purpose. The studio is nestled into the bush, five minutes’ walk from the main building and invites guests to explore the creativity within.
Rocky Hills Retreat is nestled on 250 acres of pristine Tasmanian bushland on the East Coast. Perched on a hilltop with views to Great Oyster Bay, this is a very special retreat for just one couple. There is a fully equipped Art Studio on the property and plenty of walking trails. The township of Swansea is about 15 minutes from the property, so all amenities are nearby and accessible if you wish to come out of hiding. There is also big sections of the Convict Trail which can be a wonderful hike. Fishing charters can be arranged too, depending on the season.
  • We had a wonderful time at Rocky Hills. The location is amazing - one of a kind. You can spend a whole day there without leaving the property and still feel that you've been 'out in nature'. The beautiful Chapel made into art studio was an enjoyable experience too.

My place is close to the beautiful beaches of Tasmania's East Coast, wineries and rural landscapes. You’ll love my place because of its unique building, history and decor. A great place for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
A unique space to relax in.
The East Coast of Tassie is unique and has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world..
  • Amazing place to stay in! Very stylish interior and loved sleeping on the mezzanine floor! Carolyn is a very nice and considered host. I’d always come back to stay here!

    Katharina2019-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place, everything we needed was there and the space itself is beautiful and tranquil, it really allows you to rest, yet with either a small walk to the beaches or short trips in the area, there are plenty of things to do. If you need reception/signal for devices you might find it a struggle but we loved the break! Carolyn is fantastic to deal with, we can't recommend her place highly enough.

  • The Little Schoolhouse Chapel is a unique place. It's airy and calm, has wonderful "bones," and Carolyn has decorated it beautifully. It was hard to leave the Chapel, to head out to some of the most spectacular places on the planet!

  • What a stunning place! AirBnbs are usually smaller than they look in photos, but this place is the opposite! It’s huge! Done up lovely inside with a fully equipped kitchen. Great lounging space, huge bathroom with amazing shower, and the mezzanine bedroom was so stylish. Waking up underneath the gorgeous wooden structured roof felt amazing! Despite being on the Tasman Highway it was quiet and secluded. Carolyn was very thoughtful and emailed us some tips before our arrival, eg being a bit far from shops so to come prepared, including bringing a supply of drinking water as the place uses tank water. My partner and I had a lovely 2 night stay- we only wish it could have been longer! Would definitely recommend!

    Ben2019-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What an amazing place. Everything was perfect. An absolutely beautifully restored church. The kitchen and bathroom were contemporary. Carolyn herself was so easy to chat with, and talks about the area with passion. We truely loved our stay there, and would highly recommend it to anyone. There are toys there, so kids can play or it would be a perfect place for a romantic getaway. fantastic! highly recommend.

Perhaps you would prefer to just relax in the sun in the garden, or in the comfortable lounge room in front of the fire, and read the books or play the games that are provided - and perhaps enjoy a glass of Lisdillon's own award winning wine. Or if you enjoy cooking, make the most of the fully equipped kitchen!
  • The Shepherds Cottage is an amazing stay. So well appointed and fitted out with modern comforts and amenities. Albeit the location is not in a major town, it was a very quick and easy drive to either Swansea or Tribuanna. I highly recommend this stay based on it's seclusion, privacy and beauty.

  • Had a great stay, very peaceful and scenic. Too bad about the cold and rain but it didn't detract from having a good time. The kitchen had absolutely everything you could possibly want to prepare full meals. Be aware the nearest store is 20 km away, just needs some planning. Very pleasant.

  • Impeccably clean, cosy and steeped in history. The most wonderful view of roses, river, and ocean outside of the bathroom window. A beautiful coastline - we had fun fishing at a nearby beach, and cooking it in the excellent kitchen! Perfectly accompanied by a bottle of Pinot from the Lisdillon vineyard.

    Aurelia2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Just an amazing place and location. Loved the beach and historic charm of the place. A short jaunt to Cole's Bay. And really close to Hobart airport

    Jon2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lisdillon is a slice of paradise. The cottage had great amenities and a kitchen with every appliance. It is a great place to escape and relax looking out over the fabulous rivulet and bird life.

    Jane & Gary2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing and unique place to relax and enjoy the beautiful Tasmanian landscape. The cottage is clean, neat and comfortably modernised but retains its 1840s character - feels like a trip through time looking out onto the rivulet from the cottage. Pretty handy for a day trip to Freycinet or to check out Devil's Corner Winery, but would recommend taking the time to just switch off and enjoy the property. Stay as long as you can!

  • It was a great experience to stay at Hamptons on the bay. Sparkling clean with the thoughtful touches! The view of the coast is breath taking!

    Jihye2019-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hamptons on the Bay is a beautiful home. From the moment we walked through the door we felt calm and relaxed. It is stylish, spacious and very comfortable with high quality finishes. Despite being close to the road, the house is extremely peaceful and the uninterrupted views of countryside and across the waters of Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet are stunning. The 3 bedrooms are generously sized with large, comfy beds and lovely fresh linen. Bathrooms are spotlessly clean, modern and spacious. The open plan kitchen is perfectly designed, with high quality appliances and the pantry was well stocked. I would recommend doing a grocery shop before you arrive as the local IGA (only supermarket) is very limited. There are several outdoor seating areas and toasting marshmallows in the fire pit was one of the highlights of our stay. There is also a beautiful secluded little beach down the hill from the house. The house is fairly remote (10 mins drive to Swansea - very small town) but for us this was part of the appeal. Dining out is limited but we had a great meal at Piermont (a retreat resort 5 mins drive away) and an OK pizza takeaway from Swansea. Freycinet NP is well worth the 50 mins drive with beautiful walks and beaches such as Wineglass Bay lookout / beach, Cape Tourville lighthouse, Sleepy Bay, Honeymoon Bay, Friendly Beaches. Geographe in Coles Bay is a nice spot for a drink / food on the way home and has a lovely view back across the bay to the Hazards. We were all very sad to leave this house and hope one day to return!

    Trudie2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place to have stayed in as a family of four adults. The house is big, with lots of space for both personal bedroom space as well as, a HUGE open kitchen, lounge, dining and day bed area which all look out to Freycinet National Park and the ocean. Kelvin was away during our trip but we were well looked after by Chris who had built/renovated the House. The care that was put into the home is obvious - with many appliances available for our use - from bread maker, coffee machine, slow cooker, pressure cooker, outdoor BBQ, and double ovens. There is a large verandah where it is absolutely tranquil to sit out on and listen the the waves rolling in. With a short walk of about 10 - 15 minutes leads to a private beach. Swansea is about 10 minutes away for groceries. An absolutely lovely place to stay, and would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Fabulous property. Would definitely stay again. A lovely home. Great kitchen. Has everything you need. The only unexpected thing was that we thought the home was right on the water (from looking at the photo with the floor to ceiling glass windows) But definitely 5 stars. And rob was a great. We needed a few extra items, they were delivered the next morning.

  • The home is stunning and well appointed ensuring you have best vantage point to take in the beautiful view. Luxurious interior with modern appliances - everything you could ever want is catered for. We were very well looked after and had one of the best holidays. We will be back!
