Places to stay in Liss Forest

Places to stay in Liss Forest
This is a self contained flat built above our garage in the building that used to be the old coach house. Set in a quiet location on the northern edge of the South Downs National Park it is well placed for walking, National Trust, Jane Austen, HMS Victory, The Mary Rose, The Watercress line, Goodwood, Haslemere, Petworth, The Devil's Punchbowl and the lovely town of Petersfield. It can accommodate 2 comfortably and 4 using the bed settee , but this can be quite a squeeze.
This property is on the edge of the village of Liss which is on the main line railway to Waterloo or Portsmouth. Trains run hourly and it is a 10 minute walk to the station. Despite being near the village centre, with a small Tesco, a Boots and a great little café, it is very peaceful and within an easy of The Sussex Border Path, The Serpent Trail and other waymarked paths. The flat is self contained with its own entrance and has access to a small garden. It is perfect for two but could take up to four with use of the bed settee which can be folded during the day. It has a kitchen with washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, cooker, fridge and is heated with storage heaters. A tumble dryer can be used on request. There is a Smart TV, which works on FreeSat, offering the usual terrestrial channels as well as internet access providing catch up, Netflix (use your own account) and other internet channels. There is a strong WIFI signal as well as the possibility of an ethernet connection. There is a DVD player and a good selection of DVDs as well as books and some games. Our family use the space when they come and love it - you will be very comfortable and made very welcome. We do ask that guests park at the bottom of the drive rather than adjacent to the property as space is limited. The space is best used by two adults, but could accommodate two more with use of the bed settee or the option of mattresses on the floor for children. Please let me know if you will need the extra bedding for more than two people or indeed two people who wish to sleep separately.
The neighbourhood has all the advantages of village living, plus proximity to a main line station, but retains a country feel. It is within easy reach of many places of interest as well as stunning countryside and South Downs waymarked paths.
  • We enjoyed our quick stay in Ruth's place. It was very quiet and clean. Great for our weekend trip.

  • Lovely little place to stay. Hosts couldn't be more helpful.

    Richard2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth is a very accommodating host. The space is lovely and comfortable and great as a couple retreat. The walk from Liss station is roughly 15 minutes if you’re a slow walker and there’s a Tesco express nearby too. Loved the decor and me and my Queen would recommend.

  • Great place to stay. Really well equipped. Loved it.

  • Very welcoming and very clean. Great space and host is brilliant x

  • This a very comfortable self-contained flat with all the amenities you could wish for. The parking is on the road, about a minutes walk away, but I had no problems finding space. I was attending a course at Longmoor Barracks so had little opportunity to explore Liss and the surrounding area but it looked perfectly positioned for walks. It is an ideal base for anyone that does not want to stay on camp (or whose other half does not want to!).

  • My partner and I had a lovely stay here! The place was spotless and had everything you needed for a nice weekend away. Ruth and Graham were thoughtful hosts and were on hand if we needed them. There was also a good range of suggestions for places to eat and places to go while we were there. Very quiet surroundings and gorgeous countryside! We would recommend and would stay here again!

    Kara2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth's place was quiet and clean and perfect as a rest stop after a long day exploring. The flat had everything we could need.

Self-contained detached 1 bed cottage at the rear of our family home with its own entrance, living room, shower room/toilet and kitchen with fridge/microwave/kettle. It has central heating and is bright and airy. The property is on the edge of the South Downs National Park and is handy for both the south coast and London (train station about ten minutes away). Local amenties include supermarket, restaurants and takeways, within walking distance, theatre and swimming pool.
We live opposite the boundary of the South Down National Park. There are long walks and cycle rides by stepping across the road, including the Shipright's Way from Bordon all the way to Portsmouth.
  • Ivy Cottage was the perfect base for me, my partner and 8-month old baby. There was plenty of room for us to set up the travel cot in the bedroom, and spread out in the living area. It was warm, clean and spacious, and the sunlight flooded the whole accommodation through the windows, which look out to the garden. The kitchen area was basic but had everything we needed. The shower was warm and powerful, and the bed was very comfortable. We’ll definitely be staying again!

Our home is located in a village between the pretty market towns of Alton & Petersfield in the South Downs National Park. It's a convenient location for guests attending weddings at Long Barn in Newton Valence and Old Thorns near Liphook and we are not far from the A3 too. The room best suits couples, solo and business travellers but all are welcome . We have a travel cot that can be added to the room and also a cot mattress that can be placed on the floor for little ones.
There are fantastic views from our house and a large garden for you to relax in.
The village is close to Gilbert White's House in Selborne and Jane Austen's home in Chawton. With the A3 close by, the house is only about half an hour's drive from Portsmouth, Midhurst, Chichester and Guildford. You can walk in open countryside directly from our house or go further afield to explore the South Downs Way or Gilbert White's famous Zig Zag path. You are welcome to use our garden with its quiet rural outlook.
  • It was a great English countryside experience, from local pub around, to Claire and Andy s brick house with beautiful flowers. Great hospitality, homemade bread, and so.many refine details.. If you re lucky, you can ask Claire to play English folk music....she s really good. Totally recommended to travelers looking for a "British" amd country style experience with nice sceneries around

    Jerome2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Claire and Andy are the ideal hosts. They are attentive, but never intrusive. I loved having an electric kettle in my room. Every detail was in place, and they regularly attended to my needs. Their home is spotlessly clean. I would definitely stay again.

My place is a detached house with private driveway, close to South Downs National Park. We are 20 min drive from Portsmouth and the historic shipyard or 30 min drive from Winchester with its Cathedral and shopping, Guildford or Chichester and Goodwood. You’ll love my place because of it's homely and cosy. We are a friendly couple with loads of local knowledge and lots of ideas of where to eat, drink and visit. My place is good for couples, friends, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
Your room is on the ground flour with its own en suite shower, toilet and sink. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes and there is a dressing table for working at or doing your make up. The bathroom has a over mirror light with shaving socket both 110v and 240v. There is a radiator in the bedroom and towel rail in the bathroom both have there own controls for adjusting heat.
Liss is a small village with a few shops including a Tesco's Express, Boots and various independent shops. Petersfield is only 5 mins drive and is an old market town. It has a great selection of independent shops and a few chain stores. There is a weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a monthly Farmers Market on Sundays. Petersfield also hosts a variety of events throughout the year. There is a local pub within walking distance that offers home cooked food. Or if you are happy to jump in the car there are a huge choice of places to eat and drink. Very happy to recommend a few places. If you are in to walking, road biking or mountain biking we have direct access to some great trails. There is also a downhill mountain biking trail just down the road.
  • Fantastic little accomodation. Perfect for a short stopove. Lovely comfortable space with its own private en-suite. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Would thoroughly recommend.

Our cosy annex has been lovingly decorated with my favourite furniture and accessories. Centred around a wood burning stove, the annex is an open studio space with living, dining and sleeping areas within. It has a shower room, and separate toilet. This is the perfect country getaway for a couple or family...we are completely secluded and surrounded by stunning countryside. Nearby market town Petersfield is just 7 minutes drive, and 'the Hangers' is just 10 minutes walk from our door.
Our place is very peaceful and quiet, accessed by a long gravel drive behind big wooden gates. The annex is accessed by a staircase as it is on the first floor of a barn style building.
We are very lucky to have some amazing local pubs within walking distance, like the Queens Head in Sheet, the Harrow and the Cricketers in Steep. Steep Marsh is a small village with just a handful of residents.
  • The annex is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway to the country-side. It is a very tastefully presented flat with thoughtful touches such as shampoo/conditioner and tea. As the weather wasn’t great we spent most of our time relaxing by the fire watching a movie or two! We were very impressed with the check-in process including the pictures to aid self check in. The annex is a short drive from Peterfield or a 20min walk to Sheet (we would highly recommend the Queens head pub).

We provide a traditional BnB, in our beautiful self-contained annexe, with its own separate entrance, looking out onto our private landscaped garden, through which the Ashford Stream flows. We're in a quiet picturesque village, on the edge of the Petersfield Market town, great for the South Downs National Park. We are also within walking distance (~25 minutes) of the train station/town centre. Several excellent pubs in the village. And Bedales School, 8 mins, and Goodwood 30 mins drive.
We aim to provide a friendly and open place to stay, where you will feel home from home in our annexe that we designed and built ourselves. Whether you are on your own, with a partner, or have up to 4 children, we can accommodate you. The annexe is a recently-constructed eco-build that has brought our Grade II-listed cottage into the 21st century. You will have your own entrance into a double height space with a mezzanine bedroom above. We provide an en-suite bathroom, in an African style, with a shower, basin and toilet. [Note that this isn't a long-drop!] SLEEPING Upstairs there are a double bed, and two single beds, with the option of a two more that are stored underneath. Downstairs, there is a double sofa bed. Downstairs, there is a large lounge with TV, WiFi, USB charging sockets, small kitchenette, and a grand piano! KITCHENETTE The kitchenette is small, not a full sized kitchen. It is equipped with two small fridges, microwave, toaster, kettle, halogen oven, small table top oven and hob, slow cooker, and induction hob with one ring. IMPORTANT: We provide equipment for simple meals, for up to four people, but please note that cooking for 6 guests might be a struggle due to the size of the appliances. Please get in contact, before you book, if you need to do this. FAMILY We even have a cupboard of toys and children's books, another cupboard of board games, many family friendly DVDs, and novels, and child play equipment in the garden. You look out on our own private, mature landscaped garden with it's own stream. It really is home from home. We provide all bedding, towels, and hand soap, but please bring your own toiletries.
Sheet is a quiet and picturesque village, which is a sought after location due to its proximity to Petersfield, Bedales School, and Goodwood. We are located in the beautiful countryside of the South Downs National Park, with horse riding, walking and cycling on your doorstep. Portsmouth is a half-hour drive away, with its historic dockyard, shopping at Gunwharf Quays, and ferries to France and the Isle of Wight.
  • This was my second stay at Marie's lovely annexe - it's perfectly placed for exploring the local countryside and Petersfield.

    Sarah2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a perfect stay in Maries apartment, great social space, very comfortable and amazing bread in the morning is a really lovely touch! Great local pub only a few minutes walk away and nice walk up Shoulder of Mutton Hill, apart from the mud.. Thanks Maire x

    Will2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. I just needed a two-night stay in the area to catch up with friends and attend a lecture locally, in between doing so, I wanted somewhere peaceful and restful to stay. Marie's place was perfect for that. It poured with rain the entire day I was there but I was able to read a book and look out onto the beautiful garden from the sofa. The double bed I slept in was very comfortable. The things I especially loved about Marie's place were: 1) The African style shower with the remarkable comfortable pebble-base and the rain shower, which when it rains outside on the glass roof above, makes it seem like you are showering in the open but are still warm! 2) The underfloor heating in the shower room. 3) The freshly baked bread that Marie brings on your first morning!

    Caroline2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's place is a great, cool place to stay; it's got a relaxed vibe and has some lovely features (many of them linked to her time in South Africa). Its location is excellent - in a lovely village (with pub) and close to Petersfield, which has loads of lovely cafes and places to hang out. Hope to return.

    Sarah2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was a brief overnight trip during half term- originally we were hoping to see some stars as part of the South Downs dark skies - Marie went out of her way to discover local information about this before we had even confirmed our booking. The weather was cloudy but we decided we would have a mini break anyway and I am very glad we did. Luxurious stylish place to stay- very comfortable for 4 of us. Marie suggested The Queens Head for dinner which was fabulous- lovely old pub full of character- we should have booked even though it was 7pm on a Wednesday! Delicious pizzas, burgers, risotto served with a friendly welcome. And only a few minutes walk away. Breakfast was another highlight- what a treat to have a whole freshly baked loaf of bread. It feels like we’ve had a mini holiday- thank you very much

    Rachel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend in Marie's home. The decorations in the house is lovely, Marie and Angus are very kind to us. The bread provided for breakfast is delicious as well. Recommended.

  • Amazing place to stay in all aspects !

    Victoria2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Marie goes beyond the call of duty. There are lots of little notes around the rooms giving advice about the smallest of details. She really cares about your experience during the stay. We were welcomed on our second morning with a freshly baked loaf of homemade bread. Where else would we have been treated so thoughtfully. There is a small but very practical kitchen area which enabled us to cook and eat without going to restaurants. With a young baby this was very welcome. There are an abundance of toys that kept our little one amuzed which was just super. A truly wonderful host and a super space where you can come and go independently which is what we like.

  • This is a beautifully converted barn which feels deep in the countryside but is actually just a few minutes from amenities. The barn has everything you need for a relaxing stay. We cycled to Petersfield on the Shipwright's Way, which you can hop on to from the front door ,and enjoyed fantastic pub food at the Harrow Inn. Paddy & Kim were great hosts!

  • A lovely little hideaway from which to explore the South Downs! Kim was very helpful, giving us plenty of tips about local highlights and good walking areas, and she provided a delicious and generous breakfast pack. The barn is stylish, well-kitted out and in a lovely, quiet location just by the hosts' house. Perfect for a long weekend or, like us, a week-long stay. Would recommend!

The Shepherd’s Hut at Coombe Farm is only an hour or so from London and within easy reach of Goodwood, Cowdray and the south coast; yet once you’re here, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped through the back of the wardrobe. With its unimpeded views over the South Downs countryside and barely another soul to be seen, this is a magical place to hole up, step off the treadmill, dream, write, and recuperate. Although the land is prepared primarily for couples, we will accept occassional small groups to join and camp upon request. Access is via a private lane and there’s parking on-site. At the top, backing on to beautiful deciduous woodland, you’ll find the Hut itself – on a sturdy blacksmith-built chassis and equipped with a super-comfortable bed, log burner and simple, pretty furniture, including a table/desk. There’s a mezzanine bunk to accommodate one child. Outside, there’s a table and two chairs for a sundowner, a gravel firepit with low benches, and a picnic table. A few metres away, just beyond the wildflowers, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen, shower and loo, all made using quirky reclaimed materials wherever possible, and with a selection of luxury toiletries. There’s hot water on demand, a wood stove and butler’s sink with pretty tiles, there is one 12v socket in the hut. solar-powered lighting and lots of little touches to make your rural getaway more comfortable. If you don’t want to cook and can’t face another toasted marshmallow, there are some great pubs a short drive away. In virtually any direction, there are lovely country trails, so you can walk it all off. If you like wallmounted TV and cookie-cutter luxury, then the Shepherd’s Hut at Coombe Farm may not be your thing. If what you’re after is a completely secluded lo-fi idyll, welcome. We believe that nowadays, true luxury lies in space, peace and simplicity. So lie on one of our giant pillows and watch shooting stars while you listen out for the call of the barn owls and the flap of a bat’s wing. Oh, and the water here is delicious, and makes an amazing cup of tea. There are bags of wood for the fire pit underneeth the hut, we charge £5 per bag (non profit) although you are very welcome to bring your own. Recommended pubs: The Deers Hut, Liphook, GU30 7NY; The Rising Sun, Milland, GU30 7NA; the Duke of Cumberland Arms, Henley, GU27 3HQ; Durleighmarsh Farmshop, Tea Barn and Pick Your Own, GU31 5AX Nearby: Goodwood (motor and equestrian sport and other activities); Cowdray (polo, farmshop and other activities); Chichester (Festival Theatre); Portsmouth; Beaulieu (Motor Museum); Selborne; Alton (Jane Austen Museum); Arundel; West Wittering and other south coast beaches; Uppark (National Trust house); Queen Elizabeth Country Park; Petersfield; Birdworld; Farnham; Haslemere; Petworth; Black Down and the Devil’s Punchbowl (beautiful country walks) – and more. This is a lovely corner of England. Possibility of small family groups upon request at £20 per tent.
Beautiful private land in the valley. Exclusive use of the shepherd's hut field. Within the fenced boundary. There is a footpath through the field to the left of the hut which very occasionally gets used, most of the path is hedged except for a small gate area. Lightly used neighbouring barn (during some days, which wont ever affect your stay) located at the bottom right outside of the field, this is private, please avoid for safety reasons. This doesn't overlook in anyway or affect your exclusive use and privacy of the area.
It's completely secluded. The only neighbour is the last house down the lane.
  • Super cosy, really fabulous location - great to chill out and enjoy the countryside from such a great spot.

  • Amazing. Absolutely amazing space. Everything about the Shepherd's Hut is wonderful. Alice is a fabulous host, very friendly and prompt with any queries/responses. If you're looking for some down time away from it all then this is certainly the place. The hut itself is beyond cosy, with the most comfortable bed in the world. loads of lovely blankets and cushions. We slept amazingly. The kitchen and shower area's are brilliantly tucked away and all the personal touches/welcoming pack were much appreciated. As we stayed in November, the autumnal colours and landscape was beautiful. I highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. Thank you Alice :-)

  • Alice’s place was amazing! We were only there for 24hrs but had a very cosy, pleasant stay. Would definitely recommend! Thanks Alice.

  • Beautiful little place. We sat in the warm and cosy shepherds hut, listened to the birds and watched the rain come down. It was great to be close to nature and get some peace and quiet. Alice has style and all her little extras make this place special. You’ll love it.

  • The hut is situated in a rugged field enclosed with deciduous woodlands. The space is perfect for two people with a lovely bed and lots of cosy features. Directly outside there is a plenty of space for eating, having fires and star-gazing, with expansive views into the surrounding countryside. We spent most of our time watching the abundance of wildlife in the area, but there’s plenty more to see around the South Downs itself. In short, we had a perfect experience and will most definitely be returning!

  • Absolutely beautiful gem!

    Shelly2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay in the hut, we loved the secluded location in the South Downs. Alice is a super welcoming host, I was really impressed with all the fresh goodies that she left them for us in the kitchen. The kitchen, toilet and shower were amazing, very well equipped with quality products. Such a beautiful nature retreat.

  • If you’re looking to detach from life’s hecticness and connect to nature for the weekend, this is the spot to do so. Situated in such a lovely area in the South Downs, we had a splendid two days. We did some forest walking, sat under the stars, lit a lovey fire, breathed some fresh air - it was fab. Lovely touches too and a separate kitchen and bathroom with all the utilities that you need. A really beautiful spot. We’ll be back for more rejuvenation soon!

We live in a detached house with private driveway, close to South Downs National Park. Only 20 min drive from Portsmouth and the historic shipyard or 30 min drive from Winchester with its Cathedral and shopping, Guildford or Chichester and Goodwood. You’ll love my place because of it's homely and cosy. We are a friendly couple with loads of local knowledge and lots of ideas of where to eat, drink and visit. My place is good for couples, friends, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
Your room is on the first floor with its own en-suite bath, shower, toilet and sink. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes and there is a chest of drawers for doing your hair and make-up. The bathroom has an over mirror light with shaving socket both 110v and 240v. There are radiators in the bedroom and bathroom both have there own controls for adjusting the heat. We have an extra bed that we can put in the room if needed. There is an additional fee for this.

The Woodshed is a stylishly converted steel-framed barn, set in 10 hectares of natural pasture and woodland. Situated on high ground, it has sweeping views of wooded hills, within the South Downs National Park. Rooms are contemporary, comfortable and designed with a keen eye to detail. Through the wide glazed doors of the large living room you can spot wildlife... step outside and relax in a pastoral setting. Hawkley is between London and the coast and the local area is packed with interest.
The views, the freedom of unlimited space to walk, play, swim and relax - this is what The Woodshed offers. Long distance footpaths close by, The Hawkley Inn is 3 mins. away, or a short walk. The pool operates from May-September - unheated, with a thermal cover.
Please see www.relderton.co.uk/thewoodshed for detailed information.
  • Lovely off-grid barn in a really beautiful part of Hampshire. We did some great walks in the local hangars and came back to enjoy the fire of the lovely cosy barn

    Merope2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved it. What an amazing location and place to get away from it all and unwind. Although under a 10 min drive to the excellent Hawkley Inn the Woodshed gives that feeling of rural isolation with the grounds of Home Farm. Great views, horses and sheep right outside your front door and fantastic walks all around you. Our 19 month old daughter loved the animals and farm and we are keen to visit again in the summer. The barn is immaculate and very comfortable and it’s eco credentials and Lou and Richards commitment to this is great. They were great hosts.

    Cliff2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning location, augmented be really useful maps/walk routes etc. provided by the host. Location far more assessible than expected also

    Adam2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place for a weekend getaway from London. It was clean inside and pretty outside. Great walks and local pub. Our four year old enjoyed looking at the sheep on the farm. Lou and Richard were really welcoming hosts.

    Robert2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous stay at the Woodshed. It is a fabulous eco-friendly conversion in a great location. It is very peaceful and restful. We did a great walk from the Woodshed, a 4 mile loop up onto Noar Hill, absolutely beautiful. We also did another great walk from Steep. Despite its peaceful location it is also easy to get into Petersfield for food shops and places to eat. We also headed south and in only 30 minutes we were in Chichester. The cathedral, Pallant House Gallery and the Cass Sculpture Park (just north of Chichester) are all worth visiting. The wood burning stove was great, so cosy on the cold evenings and there was plenty of kindling and fire wood provided. Richard was a very welcoming host and we would love to stay again when the pool is open in the summer.

    Katy2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful autumnal weekend! The Woodshed is set in the beautiful rolling countryside of north Hampshire. Ideal for walks and getting away from it all. The place was modern, clean, comfortable and benefited from a log burner which made it extra cosy. A lovely country pub was only a 20 minute walk away. The hosts were friendly and helpful. We'd love to go back to this little haven in the spring for more walks and special family time.

Large Family house within easy walking distance of Steep Marsh Village and a 5 minute drive to Petersfield. Beautifully set in the rural English countryside, Downgate Villa not only makes the perfect spot for a rural retreat but also is not too far away from all our favourite local West Sussex and Hampshire attractions. Downgate Villa is the ideal place for a peaceful family getaway. On the outskirts of Petersfield this tranquil retreat is a pleasant spot to rest after a day amongst the hustle and bustle of hitting the shops of the nearby cities such as Guildford, Portsmouth or even Chichester. Downgate Villa is beautifully designed throughout. Entering the house through the front door you are welcomed by a small porch which leads straight into a traditional cottage living room, with quirky features throughout, you will love how cosy and traditional this cottage feels. Leading straight off the living room is a small kitchen with the most beautiful views of the land in front where you may see horses from time to time pass your window. This kitchen is equipped with a kettle, cooker, fridge, microwave and toaster. The next room from the living room is the conservatory, this bright room has a great panoramic view of the hills ahead and also the garden to the right, there is no better place to sit and snuggle down to read a book…..if you are not too busy soaking up the views! There is a downstairs bathroom with a shower over the bath. Upstairs there are three large bedrooms, one twin room and two double rooms. The double bedroom at the back of the property benefits from the wonderful views the house has to offer. There is also a WC upstairs. Outside there is a large quintessentially British garden, and a drive enough for 1 car, but a layby to the back of the house which would also offer more parking to guests.
  • we will use you again, perfect thank you.

    Adam2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Would highly recommend this charming country cottage. It has very homely family feel with enchanting art, bits and bobs - my son especially enjoyed watching the wild rabbits from the sunny conservatory

    Conor2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • The property is very quaint and has a real lived in feeling. Old stone floors and faded mismatched furniture. I loved the collection of crockery. There are two standard doubles and a twin room. We brought our own bedding because I am fussy but what was there was OK. There is a real cottage feel about it. The bathroom is downstairs and there is a small toilet on the first floor. There is an open fire but also very good central heating and lots of hot water. There is wifi and a tv and reasonable phone signal for both EE and Virgin. The conservatory overlooks a small garden . The garden is not completely secure for small dogs as the hedge/fence is not complete at the very end. There are good views of the adjacent field and in the evening rabbits come into the garden from the field to nibble at the flowers (so sweet at Easter). The is NO FREEZER but we managed for four days. I brought a bag of ice every day and stored in the bottom of the fridge ready for G+T time. The road itself is quite but when sitting in the garden you can hear the dual carriage way. There is some fabulous walking in the area and Petersfield can be walk to in approx 30mins. The Queens Head does good food as does the Harrow - we booked as it was Easter weekend. The host has left details of eating places etc. I would recommend the property - it is much bigger than it looks from the outside and would comfortable accommodate 6.

  • We had a lovely stay, place was clean and warm. It had a very cozy feel to it. Our toddler enjoyed looking at the horse outside all the time.

Nestled between a golf course and beautiful countryside, the property has the benefit of a tranquil setting whilst only being a 4 minute drive from Petersfield - with its mainline train station and abundance of restaurants shops, pubs, bars, sporting and recreational facilities. Closer still, there are two very popular village pubs within walking distance and an 18 hole golf course at the end of the garden. There are an abundance of interesting walks straight from the house and further afield. Not far away are the beautiful cities of Winchester and Chichester - with its very well respected Festival Theatre. Beaches offering lessons in wind surfing and sailing are also not far and the opportunity to horse ride are plentiful.
The house is very close (4 mins by car) to the pretty market town of Petersfield. Midhurst and Petworth are a short drive to the East. Chichester, Winchester and Guildford are all around half an hour away. There is a golf course at the end of the garden where guests are welcome. An open air swimming pool in Petersfield and tennis courts in the village can also be used by visitors. There are an abundance of beautiful walks on the South Downs and the Hangers and numerous pubs in which to refresh along the way. Cycling is very popular in the area and there are many routes through stunning countryside for all abilities. Goodwood and Cowdray Park are half an hour away and have lots to offer visitors both in and out of festival and polo season. The National Trust property, Uppark, is 10 mins by car and en route to Chichester and beyond to the long stretches of beach along the south coast. There is so much to do, see, eat, drink and experience... visitors to this area will never be bored!

Beautifully renovated 19th Century Coach House with a large garden, exclusively for guests' use. The house is in a rural location, situated within the South Downs National Park, but with a nearby train station (3 miles) that takes you to Waterloo in an hour. We are close to cities such as Portsmouth, Chichester & Winchester, in easy reach of Goodwood & Cowdray as well as attractions such as Marwell Zoo & Peppa Pig World. Beautiful walks & cycle routes are on your door step.
The property is detached with a large garden and plenty of parking. There is underfloor heating throughout the downstairs and central heating upstairs. Having been recently renovated, the house is well insulated and warm. Ground Floor: On entering the property, there is a large entrance hall with plenty of space for shoes, wellies & hooks for coats. From the hall, you enter a very spacious kitchen with a dining table that seats up to 8 people plus a breakfast bar with stools. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need, including a Rangemaster cooker with 2 ovens and 5 zone ceramic hob & a Nespresso coffee machine (pods will be available for guests' use and more are easily available from supermarkets). Coffee, tea & basic cooking ingredients such as olive oil, salt & pepper are provided as well as milk & butter for the start of your stay. Washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets & tea towels are all provided. Off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and a downstairs cloakroom. From the kitchen & utility room there is access to the large patio area and garden. Also off the entrance hall is a study/library with a sofa, armchair & desk to relax & read a book. The light & airy sitting room has plenty of seating and is a great place for guests to relax. There is a large smart TV. From the sitting room, there are french doors leading out to the garden. Off the sitting room is a downstairs bedroom, perfect for guests requiring easy access. The bedroom has a super king size bed, with an adjoining dressing area and en suite bathroom, with a bath & walk in shower. Upstairs: There are two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have the option of either a super-king sized bed or 2 twin beds. One bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, with a bath and overhead shower. There is a separate bathroom off the upstairs landing with a walk in shower cubicle. Outside there is a large terrace with table & chairs, a bbq and a fire pit. The garden is mainly grass, with plants around the edges. Children are very welcome at the property, however there are some points to note. The stairs inside the house does not have stair gates. The garden is on different levels and there are unfenced walls & steps. Also, the garden is not fenced in on all sides & opens on to a private driveway shared with other properties so young children will need to be supervised. There is a pond in the middle of the garden which is fenced in on all sides. Please also note that the property is situated down an unmade, bumpy track so low slung vehicles would need to be driven very carefully.
There is large area of beautiful common land (Chapel Common - part of the South Downs National Park) on our doorstep which is perfect for walks and cycle rides. The market towns of Petersfield and Midhurst are a short drive away. Goodwood is a 30 minute scenic drive away. Paultons Park & Marwell Zoo are less than an hour's drive. There are great activities for children within easy reach such as Queen Elizabeth Country Park; Hollycombe Steam Fair; Alice Holt Forest (with Go Ape); Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
  • Second visit here for us as a group and would thoroughly recommend

  • The Coach House is a beautiful home with a lovely layout and space in a tranquil location. Emily was brilliant from start to finish and made us feel very comfortable which, with a young family, is very important. Very quick communication and lots of helpful advice. The surrounding South Downs Park is spectacular with amazing walks and lovely views. It's also very convenient for Petersfield and Liphook. We enjoyed our time so much we are coming back to stay for another month in January! Can't say enough good things about it.

    Charlotte2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was perfect. Plenty of space for us all and very well equipped. It was great to be tucked away in such a quiet spot.

  • It was a great house, wonderful walks from the doorstep and the host Emily was helpful recommending walks and pubs. Really beautiful house with lovely rooms and all very clean. We had a great time and would definitely return.

  • We absolutely loved our stay here, it's contemporary and yet cosy with some gorgeous original features. Spotlessly clean, lovely huge bedrooms and bathrooms, excellent communication from our host who permitted us a late check out. Fantastic walks from the front door, and a bonus find of toys in the toy chest kept the kids occupied on rainy days. The only slight negative is that there's no microwave but Emily did offer us the use of her neighbours if we needed it. We'd definitely go back!

    Anita2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This house exceeded our expectations. It is much bigger than it appears to be in photos and the house is just lovely! The host Emily is extremely friendly and helpful with super quick responses. She also provided the essentials for our stay, the house even has an espresso machine and the beds were the comfiest we have ever slept in (literally like sleeping on a cloud) - get dibs on the downstairs bedroom to experience it! I highly recommend choosing this house for your stay!

    Sai2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach House is beautiful. Spotlessly clean with excellent facilities and the ideal location for walks and exploring the countryside. We had a good supper at The Links pub. Emily was super helpful and gave us lots of tips and easy directions. Would not hesitate to recommend.

  • The Coach House was amazing and exactly what we were looking for. A lovely country retreat close to London with a common and great walks from the gardeb. But close to decent pubs and entertainment for the kids. And the house itself was great. Cosy and clean, great showers, comfy beds and a kitchen with everything anyone could need. Lots of thoughtful touches to make it even better and a responsive, helpful host. Only regret was that our stay wasn't long enough. But we'll be back...!

  • Apart from the amazing location, the stylish touches in the house were just lovely. Loved the well - indoors! And the peaceful attic room although we spent most of our time downstairs in the large kitchen diner with the lovely fireplace. The garden and view were super. Wish we’d stayed long enough to enjoy some walks in the area. Thanks Claire and Monty - would love to return!

    Sophie2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Claire and Monty were great to deal with, very helpful and friendly. Their home is a wonderful place to stay, lots of quirky things going on and the most beautiful setting. The surrounding area is also a great place to potter around, lots of beautiful villages and countryside. Would highly recommend.

A beautiful Victorian house with high ceilings, surrounded by a spectacular 3 acre garden. Tranquil setting - sitting on the patio opens a great vista to the whole garden. Comes with separate summer house / huge games room, fish pond, tennis court and zip wire. There's a caravan in the garden which makes a comfy 7th bedroom, which is clean and dry and got a massive triple bed.
The large garden contains lots of places to explore including 1.5 acres of lawn, a 20m x 20m flat lawn for croquet, flower beds, rare trees, 3 ponds, wooded areas and a gate into the forest at the bottom of the garden. Activities include a hard tennis court, a large rope swing, a trampoline sunk into the ground, a child swing and slide, and a 70m sit-on zip wire.
Set in the woods at the top of a hill in rolling English countryside, our house is in the middle of the South Downs national park and a 5 minute walk to 2 pubs.
  • A proper Airbnb experience... you get to take over another family’s home, cats included! We had a large family get-together with 9 adults and 7 children and it was great for all ages, especially the zip wire and tennis court for the older kids and the trampoline and swings for the little kids. We are already plotting a return visit!

    Alice2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous, large house with amazing outdoor space and amenities for all sorts of sports/activities. Having a separate building as a games room was perfect as well, and provided a good level of privacy. Could not recommend Adrian’s property enough. Adrian and Paula were also great hosts - stayed in contact well and provided any assistance needed.

    Ben2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay, playing rounders and tennis was a lot of fun and the dinning room was the perfect setting for a murder mystery dinner

    Clare2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The house is enormous with ample space for 14 people, gorgeous grounds and really fun amenities for big kids (adults!) - the zip wire was great fun, tennis courts in great condition, big games room space and long dining table. It was the perfect place to spend a weekend with friends celebrating and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as somewhere to stay. We didn't leave, there was so much to do!

    Lucy2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our time! A great get away from the city in beautiful surroundings.

    David2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place!!! Adrian and Paula are very helpful and insisted that we make ourselves at home. We went for a family get together and there is plenty of space to have a big meal, but also room to spread out into the garden and games room to do our own things. A great place to have a chilled weekend.

    Keith2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the house! It was perfect, we loved it!

    Katie2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Adrian's house is perfect for a great weekend away. All the rooms are large, many of them with en suites and the games room, tennis court, rope swings and zip line meant we had great fun at the house. The area has some nice walking routes and pub near by too. Adrian was always very quick to respond and was very accommodating. We had a great weekend staying in the house and would definitely recommend to others!

  • Harry’s Barn is a spacious and stylish base to escape city life and explore the South Coast and South Downs National Park... Harriet truly is a Superhost!

    James2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • In a word - Gorgeous. Super stylish, cosy, everything has been thought about and lots of lovely touches. More like a boutique hotel room. Harriet’s a great host too.

    Kate2019-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Harry’s barn is spacious accommodation with well-thought out extras to make the stay even better. There is even a box of little extras like painkillers, toothpaste, antihistamine etc just in case you had forgotten these things. We would definitely recommend a stay at Harry’s barn.

    Angela2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and tastefully decorated self contained 1 bed, 1 bathroom apartment. It has everything you could possibly need and more - thanks again for providing a gluten free breakfast. Roughly a 20 min walk from Petersfield station in neighbouring Sheet. The Queens Head is great pub for drinks and Italian food, just a 5 minute walk away - sitting next to the wood fire on rainy day was lovely! We also had a walk around Petersfield Lake and would recommend having a go on the rowing boats (£6 for 2 people). Harrys Barn is perfect for a lovely quiet getaway, if only the weather had been better so that could explore the area some more!

    Paul2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Harriet’s barn is just so beautiful, it has been restored so it is a treasure but it is comfortable and has every modern touch too. It was a freezing night when I arrived at short notice and Harriet and Spaz sorted everything out for me so there was a beautiful fire and the place was perfectly cosy in a heartbeat. World’s comfiest bed is at this airbnb! Harriet and Spaz made me so welcome and were so thoughtful, if my plans had allowed and I could have stayed on I would. Thank you both for a lovely night in the beautiful barn, I will definitely see you both again! Elizabeth

The decor is simple english country cottage style, which is comfortable and clean. The private en-suite bathroom has a bath with shower, wc and basin.
This is a comfortable and peaceful place to come and stay, and is handy for exploring the area or getting away from everything for a day or two. Ideally situated for getting to London or the coast by train, for exploring the South Downs, and historic cities of Winchester and Chichester, Guildford and Portsmouth.
We are not far from Petersfield which is a pretty market town, with most shops and facilities which you might need.

  • Joff and Liz were very welcoming snd helpful with local tips, cooked a lovely breakfast in the morning and made their kitchen of use for us to make our dinner. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. Best night sleep in ages. Highly recommend

    Sara2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Liz and Joff's. Their house is beautiful and ideally located in a quiet place in the woods. The bedroom was very spacious and it was very comfortable to have our own en-suite, as well as a kettle within the room and tea/coffee available. Liz and Joff were very quick to reply to any of our messages, and gave us lots of recommendations on places to visit/restaurants. We had dinner at the Deer's Hut, based on their list of recommendations, and were very pleased. The breakfast at Liz and Joff's was great, we had a lovely homemade bread and glorious scrambled eggs! We had a brilliant time and would definitely stay again if back in the area. Thanks again/merci beaucoup :-) Lucie&Jeremie

  • We've stayed only one single night on our trip from the northern part of the country back to Germany. The time in Liz house was a very positive suprise for us all. The location and the hospitality was much better than we expected. We were all a little bit disapointed that we had not time enough to stay some more days :-)

    Marc2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was very short, but Joff also did everything possible to make it to our liking. The house is very warm, not only because of the beautiful location in the forest, but mainly because of the hospitality of the host.
