History Museum
“Located in downtown, Manteo Festival Park is a special place. To quote "23 years before the Jamestown settlement, the dream of an English-speaking nation began on the shores of Roanoke Island in 1584. Learn this important part of our nation’s history and the fascinating role Roanoke Island has played in other periods of time during your visit. History comes alive and learning is fun at Festival Park! In our many venues, hear a sailor’s tales of a strange New World, site a star with an astrolabe, enter an Algonquian longhouse, climb aboard a spritsail skiff and hoist her sails, learn about lighthouses and lifesaving, experience duck hunting and so much more!”

“I love Blue Water Grill which is located at Pirate's Cove Marina just before the bridge to Nags Head. Its a great place for a nice lunch or dinner with great sound side views. In the summer, check out Mimi's Tiki Hut for cocktails while waiting for the sport fishing vessels to return from the Gulf Stream. Mimi's is dog friendly. Good service, cocktails, atmosphere and most importantly, good food! Love the bison burgers! ”

“Ortega'z in nearby Manteo is a really great Tex-Mex restaurant with the most delicious tacos and nachos. It's owned by a local couple and they take great pride in their restaurant and food. They have a nice bar with great wine selections. This restaurant is located in the cute and quaint little downtown of Manteo and is really worth a visit in and of itself. So make sure to take a little stroll after you eat and take in all the cute little shops and the sound boardwalk. And if you're really feeling like exploring, cross the bridge over the sound and walk to Festival Park. It's beautiful!”

Harbour / Marina
“Great kayak or boating adventure: Launch from the bridge opposite the marina. Take a right through the marsh to Wanchese Fishing boats and marina. Then circle left to get back to the bridge. From there you can go to the marina and eat an an awesome restaurant atop the marina! The fishing boats come in around 3pm. Fun place to check out the catch of the day or book a fishing or sunset cruise.”
