“Il Museo Archeologico è ospitato nell'antico Palazzo del Podestà, che si affaccia sulla Piazza del Duomo di Massa Marittima. Raccoglie reperti risalenti a periodi che vanno dal paleolitico inferiore fino all'età etrusca. Il pezzo principale della raccolta preistorica è la statua-stele eneolitica di Vado all’Arancio, unico reperto di questo tipo presente in Maremma. I reperti etruschi provengono principalmente dagli scavi effettuati presso il villaggio del lago dell’Accesa; si tratta soprattutto di vasellame da cucina, pesi da telaio, pesi da pesca e laterizi; sono inoltre presenti i corredi funebri rinvenuti nelle necropoli, soprattutto vasellame reggivasi in ferro, armi in ferro e bronzo. Al piano terreno è allestita una sezione didattica sulla preistoria con la ricostruzione di grotte-tipo a grandezza naturale: una paleolitica e una eneolitica.”
