  • Absolutely amazing stay at Riversound B&B! The location was breathtakingly beautiful and the apartment itself was gorgeous. Jacqui provided a wide selection of breakfast choices and ample recommendations for nearby walks and attractions. Regular visits from Albus (Jacqui’s very friendly dog) was the icing on the cake :) Thank you for a wonderful stay - it was the relaxing break we needed! We will be back :)

  • This is an amazing apartment to stay for a get away. I came with my boyfriend and it’s in such a beautiful location with amazing walks nearby. Would love to come back and stay again soon! Jacqui was lovely and was always around if we ever needed anything and provided breakfast which was a lovely start to each day.

    Cara2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We love to stay at Riversound, mostly because Jacqui takes such good care of us We do not have to worry about breakfast or sandwich makings. She keeps us full of croissants, toast, tea, yogurt and fresh fruit! The space is lovingly decorated and you go to sleep and wake up to the river outside your door. Lots of pubs within walking or a quick drive. If you are like me, and work full time and want to escape this is a slice of heaven. We moved on to a place in north Wales that is nice with a view. There is such a difference in how I feel coming to Jacqui's home..it is so cozy and delightful.

  • Stunning place, beautiful scenes, cosy and clean! Fully recommend!

    Sophie2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We needed 2 days of rest and nature. We got more than we needed here. The open fire, the rushing waters and the water fall on your door step cleared away any cobwebs. This is an amazing place to stay. I can not recommend Jacqui and John highly enough.

    Maged2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, had breakfast stuff and drink etc there waiting for us. No cooker or hob but the pub was about a minute walk from the house or there were loads of places around if you’ve got a car. It was raining when we were there but it would have been so lovely to sit outside and have breakfast and watch the river. Lots of maps and personal recommendations for things to do when we arrived. We drive to the four waterfalls and did the walk which was amazing but it was a bit of a drive. Definitely need a car if you want to explore. Very pretty views. We had a lovely time.

  • Beautiful cottage, great location. Quick responses with tips on the local area. Amazing extras for special touch. Biscuits, fruit, milk, juice, breakfast condiments, bread, fresh coffee. Made the weekend very special. Even messaged to say not to rush checking out and to take our time. Thanks so much for a lovely stay x

CORONA VIRUS UPDATE Hi all I just wanted to inform you all of how Outdoor Retreats ltd will presently be dealing with bookings at Dan y Coetir Lodge in regards to the Corona Virus. The Lodge will remain open, but we will be taking the following precautions: We will now for the most part, be checking guests in and out with instructions sent over the phone and using the lock box for the key. This is typically how we operate anyway and has worked well up until now. If our assistance is needed however, please be assured that we are close by and always able to help, Corona Virus or not! Cleaning staff will arrive at least 1hr after guests have checked out and will leave at least 1hr before guests are due to arrive. Extra precautions will be taken to protect their health and that of our guests. The cleaners already ensure a very high level of cleanliness at the lodge. Antibacterial cleaners are always used throughout the property but you can be assured that this has been stepped up to include more points. Our cancellation policy remains the same and we will always make every effort to rebook holidays if it comes to that, but please ensure you have holiday insurance in place. You'll probably be aware of the loo roll shortages being experienced, as we are unsure if this is going to persist and our suppliers are currently out of stock we are suppling loo roll at a rate of 1 roll for every 2 nights booked. This is to protect what stock we do have, the rolls we use are longer than standard so this shouldn't be a cause for concern. We have checked with BISHTA (The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) and their current policy is that there is nothing to worry about while using a hot tub. The coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine/bromine used in swimming pools and hot tubs. Our hot tub uses a self dosing system so bromine will always be present in the pool but if you are concerned and would like the pool tested again during your stay just ask. I think that covers most things for now, if things change we will keep you updated but we want to stick as firmly as we can to this policy. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you at Dan y Coetir Lodge. Thanks a lot Joe Scott Outdoor Retreats Ltd There are 2 bedrooms one is upstairs and accessed by the original spiral staircase (which may not be suitable for elderly or disabled guests) and the other is downstairs. Both bedrooms have 2 single beds however upstairs in the master bedroom they can be joined together to create a king-size double. We can also provide a travel cot and a stair gate. On the ground floor as well as bedroom 2 you will find the living room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room has two 2 seater sofas a dinning table with 4 chairs, smart TV, blueray DVD player, telephone and a selection of games, books and DVDs. The Kitchen is well stocked with cutlery and crockery utensils and implements. It has an induction hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer. Complementary Tea, Coffee, sugar and milk are supplied. The Bathroom features a large shower cubicle with electric shower, toilet, hand basin and vanity unit and a large heated towel rail. Guests are supplied with toilet paper, bath sheets and hand towels and also pool towels for use with the hot tub. From the kitchen you enter the garden, with hot tub and plenty of seating options. Guest have full use of the hot tub, we ask that you read the instructions in the welcome pack and follow the rules displayed in the garden. In the garage you will find a separate tumble dryer, bike tools and service equipment, shoe dryer, clothes rack and cleaning equipment. The roller shutter door has a head height of 2 meters which makes the garage suitable for most cars and some Van's. we can allow pets upon request, they are charged at £5 per pet per night. When booking, we will need the address of the person making the booking.
Although our cottage is in walking distance of Merthyr Tydfil town center, Cyfartha retail park and Rydycar leisure complex, and within cycling distance of Bike Park Wales and the Brecon Beacons it retains a rural feel. Dan y Coetir Lodge is in a row of grade 2 listed former colliers cottages opposite a small horse stable and exercise area.

  • Well thought out, clean, stylish studio which is ideally situated close to the Brecon Beacons national park. My partner & I stayed here for New Year's Eve with our little dog. Quiet room even with a pub/hotel next door, great amenities with nice touches. The fresh milk and welsh cakes were very much appreciated after a long day walking! Thank you for a lovely stay, will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others!

    Jacqueline2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • James' Place was amazing. It is stylish and well throughout regarding layout and amenities. A stones through from a shop and local pub. Great TV to chill out to Netflix with and little desk for work. All in all some very clever touches to a cosy room.

    Mark2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was really fantastic. James was thorough in his directions when the map can be temperamental. There were lovely little touches that made us feel really welcome when we got to the place itself. Really clean and organised to boot. The wi-fi was on the spotty side but that's the only thing I wasn't expecting. Everything else was flawless for the price. Great place and thanks fo the stay!

    Jaimun2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, stylish, spotless and characteristically modern little patch of home that offers free parking. Close to Rhydcar Leisure Centre where you can find franchise restaurants such as Nando’s and Frankie & Benny’s, as well as entertainment such as a Vue cinema and about 20 mins drive from the picturesque Waterfall Country, great for a day out hiking. A 45 minute evening trip if you’re interested in having dinner in Cardiff City Centre as we were. Would very much elect to stay here again in the near future.

  • Les' communication beforehand was great and meant that access & check in were easy. Some nice touches with breakfast options being included, as well as drinks and snacks left in our room. Plus information on local shops, places to eat, etc. Les also lets guest access washing machine facilities. For Di & me Les' place was ideally placed to access an event at Parc Bryn Bach and we'd definitely look to stay there again id we were heading to that area. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to go to stuff in that area. As a host Les will make you welcome and make sure you are comfortable.

  • What an amazing little house. A great space for mountain bikers. Space to wash our bikes, space to wash our gear, space to store our bikes safely and space to park our cars giving us time and space to load up and offload before and after rides. The house was sparkling clean and wasn't lacking anything we needed. The rooms were spacious and well laid out, the kitchen has loads of space to cook and faff with gear and bikes. The lounge is great to hang out in after our rides so as to reminisce on the days brilliant riding. Close to shops, centrally located and close to the important riding hotpots. A fantastic host, and fantastic little house and generally a fantastic experience. We will most definitely be booking again. Brilliant!

  • Had a great stay! The home is lovely - it’s stylish, cosy and has everything you could need! The location is also perfect - a 20 minute walk/5 minute drive to a Tesco superstore and the local town. Lots of great places in the surrounding area to visit and see as well. Liam is very friendly and has great communication too. Highly recommend staying here!

We would definitely recommend anyone wanting to have a taster of Wales within driving distance of the Brecon Beacons to visit Liam’s place.

Our hometown Merthyr Tydfil was know for an explosion of immigrant workers which was involve with the manufacture of Iron and played a great part in extending the railway in the USA and South Africa. Merthyr Tydfil is a small town surrounded by Beautiful Mountains, large lakes and many waterfalls and walking trails. Our very new Motorcross Park has just opened. Beach and Ocean within 30 minutes drive and a numerous amount of historical sights close by. Merthyr Tydfil was the home to Joseph Parry the famous Musical Composer and Jullian Mc Donald fashion designer for runway. Donnie Osmond family was also from this small town. For those who love the water we have Merthyr Tydfil sailing groups. We also have the bowls, golf and tennis clubs. Another tour would be of the beautiful historical Cyfarthfa Castle which was used as a high school and Museum built by the famous Robert Thompson Crawshay family. It is surrounded by a large park, nice lake in which you can jog around and wonderful playground for the children. Another close drive away is Castle Coch built by Marqis of Bute, which is another historical ruin as well as Norman Caerphilly Castle. Cardiff Castle is famous for medieval banquets and taking tours. All these castles are close and make for a really nice day out. We are close to the entire South Coast of Wales, Nashpoint, Dunraven, Porthcawl, Rhosilli, and Three Cliffs Bay. There are Talybont and Ponsticiill Reservoirs as well as The Elan Valleys where there are another 7 reservoirs where you can hike or go for a swim. Just opened is the Bike park Wales starting at Downtown Merthyr Tydfil and going to Cwmcarn- all downhill mountain biking that has become a very important place for travelers who love to ride. The town is located up the centre of the Taff Trail where you can walk or cycle to Cardiff to the South or Brecon to the North-the total of 50 miles. The Taff Trail is great for bicycling cross country. For those who love to walk and adventure we have river walks- Taff Fawr and Taff Fechan and Forest of Dean. The Redhouse Art Heritage Centre is located Downtown where they produce plays. There is a bird of prey feeding centre called LLantrisant and Gilgrin. The shopping center is small and convenient but we still have our recreation center for all swimming, and work out needs. Now there is the new 8 screen movie theatre and amazing restaurants near by. Open air fruit and vegetable markets open twice weekly, Tuesday and Saturday(URL HIDDEN) Within a short distance of 5 miles is the Brecon Beacons National Park which is on the edge of Merthyr Tydfil. There are the Black mountains where you can take a ride up the mountains on the Brecon mountain railway. A very Famous climbing spot now is the Pen Y Fan Summit. Lots of Charity work goes on here. You can see the brave hand-gliding off the edge of these mountains enjoying the amazing views. There are also the Breacon and Monmouthshire Canals where you can hire canal boats for the weekend and travel down the many locks. The Blaenavon Heritage Mining Site and museum is a close drive away. Wear your safety helmet and travel down great depths to experience what it was like to work in the coal mines. St Fagons Folk Museum shows how we used to like out our lives years ago with the home sites still existing. This area is made up of the very old homes but set up like a little village. Some of the homes are from Merthyr-Tydfil and (admission entry is free). Barry Island and Porthcawl has a great amusement park close to the beach and ocean and that would be something the whole family would like. Another interesting site is the Pre Historical underground Caves of Dan-Y-Ogaf. Many beautiful waterfalls and sights reside here. There is also a dinosaur exhibit with about 20 or more dinosaurs, for the children as well as a live animal petting farm on the grounds. Camping is permitted. 20 miles away from Merthyr Tydfil(URL HIDDEN) 22 miles away is the larger more bustling City of Cardiff. There they have the Bay which is full of restaurants, bars and boat rides. For all of the sports lovers there is the Millenium Stadium Sports Centre. This stadium also holds famous Musical Concerts. The Wales Millennium Center holds theatre shows and Arts. 30 minutes away we have the very quiet Town of Swansea surrounded by ocean and beach. Numerous famous actors came from this lovely place. Dillan Thomas, Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta Jones family now resides and Anthony Hopkins to name a few. Merthyr Tydfil is geo-graphically well placed location to enjoy all amenities that South Wales can offer whatever you wish your holiday to be.
WE ARE IN WALKING DISTANCE TO THE CENTER OF TOWN IN MERTHYR TYDFIL. 5 MINUTES DRIVE TO THE BRECON BEACONS NATIONAL FOREST. 5 MINS TO THE WELL KNOWN CYFARTHFA PARK HISTORICAL CASTLE, AND FAMOUS COMPOSER JOSEPH PERRYS HOME. It contains virtually every household item you would need plus more! Some lovely personal touches too. I'm pretty certain we will be staying again at some point in the future!

  • A great self contained place with your own cooking facilities and shower / toilet. Lots of nice little touches to help get settled in and plenty of space for 1 or 2. I was staying for work but would make a great base for exploring the area. Nice and quiet at night and comfy bed so good for sleeping too! Everything was spotless and the kitchen is well supplied with kitchenware and a few essentials. Chris is great and very helpful but also gives you space to let you get on with your stay. Great place to stay. Thanks

We are perfectly located for the Brecon Beacons National Park, Brecon Mountain Railway, Dare Valley County Park and so much more. We have walks right from the door step on old tram ways and footpaths away from the cars. We look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Our local pub called The Red Cow is a 5 minute walk which serves local food and a great atmosphere also fast food take away outlets are opening this year within 5 minutes walk from our home
  • We spent one night at Martin and Paul’s after a long day hiking. From the moment we set foot in the door we felt very welcome - Martin and Paul are great hosts! The space was nicely appointed with many thoughtful touches. We couldn’t have been happier with the stay!

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Fabulous homely house with great hospitality. Stylish and contemporary room. Drinks available in the room with extra goodies too.

    Linda2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt this is the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. If we could award more stars we would. Martin and Paul are delightful hosts and nothing is left to chance. So many extra thoughtful touches. Incredibly clean, stylish with amazing decor and yet still welcoming and that at home feeling. We really enjoyed our conversations with both Martin and Paul and of course their adorable dog Bentley is just the icing on the cake. Thank you both for a wonderful stay

    Jackie & Ray2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Martin and Paul were fantastic hosts for our two night weekend stay in November. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean, tidy and modern. We were greated with some lovely special touches on the Friday night, always nice after a four hour drive! We could have use of a separate lounge if we wanted to or alternatively, Martin and Paul were very welcoming in us joining them in the family lounge. They were also able to recommend somewhere for us to eat in the evening and were only to happy to let us use the radiators to dry some wet clothing from a day spent in the rain. Would 100% recommend anyone staying here. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts. First time using Air BnB and we now have very high expectations of wherever we have to stay next! Thank you Martin and Paul :)

    Kathryn2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is the 2nd time we have visited Paul's place and both stays have been excellent. They are very accommodating hosts; the house is lovely and warm and super clean; the room is just as seen in the photos; the bed is very comfortable; the shower is great; there is parking at the front of the house, and very thoughtful extra touches, such as welsh cakes and chocolates. Paul and Martin make you feel like you are staying in a hotel. I can't praise them enough.

    Susan2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Totally recommend. Host goes above and beyond to help with your stay.

    Caroline2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
