Places to stay in Monte Rio
Shangrila has gotten even better. My son, Gino, & his sweet little dog, Frida, are cohosting with me. Gino is very knowledgable about the many hiking trails in the area. The delightful Occidental Bohemian Farmers Market runs Fri. evenings from the end of June till the end of Oct. If you long to get your hands dirty, but don't have a garden, we'll share ours. There's always something to do!
Your spacious room overlooks a redwood forest with a meadow & wooded hills beyond. You may think you want to visit Sonoma County vineyards, beaches, or the Russian River, but once you're here, you may not want to leave. The room is quiet. You have your own bathroom called "The Mexi" because of Mexican tiles & mementos of travels in that country. There is safe, off street parking. You are within walking distance of the picturesque village of Occidental where there are good restaurants, gift shops, & tennis courts. People also love to ride bicycles around here even tho the roads are narrow, curvy, & steep. We are early risers & will have coffee ready by 7:00 with a gourmet continental breakfast consisting of home pressed organic apple juice, homegrown organic seasonal fruits, homemade jam & a special sweet. We are well situated as a stopover, but we could also be a destination. We have lawn Bocce ball & horse shoes. For rest after those exertions, there are hammocks in the redwoods. There is such good bird watching here that the local Audubon stops here during their Xmas bird count. When the weather isn't conducive to outside time, there is a fireplace in the living room. We love to share this beautiful place. Come on over!
Shangrila is in a quiet, pretty neighborhood in Occidental.
  • Mary has a lovely place nestled in the redwoods at the end of a quiet road. The host was warm and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Mary's house is in a great location to see the Redwoods & also the coast. The bedroom & bathroom were clean & very comfortable, Mary, Gino & Freida were very welcoming, we also had time to sit out the back amongst the redwoods around their home. The beds were very comfortable, towels left to use & a kettle & mugs for tea...which is a great touch for the British like us that take teabags everywhere we go!! Occidental is a 5 minute drive & a lovely little town with some shops & restaurants for brunch/lunch (we ate in Howards) or dinner (Union Hotel Restaurant & Barley & Hops). The Redwoods in Armstrong Park are amazing & if you are fit enough take a hike on one of the Ridge paths, ensure you have a couple of bottles of water each, good shoes & walking poles if needed as it can get steep...but the views at the top are great.

  • My sister and I had a wonderful stay at Mary's. Mary and her son Gino (and his dog Frida) are wonderful hosts, super accommodating and personable. She made coffee cake for breakfast and there is always fresh fruit available. They told us about the local farmers market in Occidental and the Grove of Old Trees (a must-do easy walk). Her home is lovely -- I'd say a work of art -- in the most gorgeous setting in the redwoods. Every room has skylights to enjoy the towering redwoods. Idyllic. A wedding brought us to the area for the weekend, but if time permitted, I could have spent the days in a hammock under the trees and playing with Frida. I'm sorry we had to bug out so early Sunday morning for our long drive back to LA and miss saying goodbye. I love that Mary calls it "Shangrila," because it is!

  • A lovely getaway from the normal hustle and bustle. Love the trees and atmosphere!

  • Mary was helpful, kind, generous and well connected in her community. Not to mention her home is beautiful, well kept and has an organic, wholesome feel. Mary made us feel welcome in her home and we are so happy we stumbled upon Shangrila! Would stay there again.

Escape the summer heat at our cabin close to the coast. Winter time is perfect too, with the picture windows and wood stove, snuggle by the fire after a day of hiking in Armstrong Woods. Therefore we ask you keep your party size to two or three. Be prepared to build a fire. Wood stove is the primary heat source. We look forward to meeting you! Katrina & Larry
It's a quiet dead end road. There are houses close by but people keep to themselves.
  • What an awesome place to spend a week. The house itself is perfect and the location is ideal as both a getaway and a central location for exploring. We spent half our time driving up and down the coast (I would recommend the Crab Roll at Cafe Aquatica in Jenner for lunch and hiking the Kortum Trail at Goat Rock Park along the coast). The other half of our trip was in Napa visiting the wineries, which was just over an hour away. Armstrong National Park is nearby if you want to hike in the redwoods and Duncan Mills is just a few minutes away with a couple nice places to eat and a good bakery/coffee shop. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. It’s a perfect vacation spot.

Charming cabin right on the Creek: Have a dog? Please let us know! 2-bedrooms plus a loft (you have to climb a ladder to the loft), wood burning stove & windows everywhere! Well-equipped kitchen, TV, and trees all around. Huge deck overlooking the Creek: sit, sip, listen, relax - large table for alfresco dining. Nightly rates $95 to $300 depending on the dates. 12% Sonoma County Occupancy Tax will be added by AirBnB and remitted to the County.
Creekside pricing is for four guests. Each additional guest, up to seven total, is $25 per person each day. DOGS: We gladly consider accepting well-behaved dogs at Creekside. We ask for an additional cleaning fee of $50 per stay when dogs visit. Here are the house rules for dogs: no matter how tidy, dogs make for more work for our housekeeper so we pay her more when there's a dog staying with us. NOTE: there is a $75 ADDITIONAL pet cleaning fee if any of the following dog rules are not fully followed: 1. ***DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON FURNITURE OR ON/IN THE BEDS*** This is the biggest challenge we have and we don't have any exceptions to this rule. 2. if your dog barks when left alone, then do not leave the dog alone at the cabin. we have neighbors who can hear the barking and they sure let us know when they hear barking. 3. if your dog is totally chill when being left alone and does NOT bark, you must still always leave in his/her crate if you go out. 4. there are doggie gates on the deck so that you can secure the two deck staircases; then your dog may walk freely on the deck. 5. always pick-up after your dog and throw away the poop bags directly into the trash bin outside. even if the dog poops out-of-the-way, it must be picked up. 6. at the end of your stay, please thoroughly sweep the entire cabin with the broom & dustpan kept in the laundry room. please then dispose of all the fur/hair, etc. in the trash bin outside. thank you for helping to make it possible for us to continue hosting dogs up at Creekside. please remember, and so that there are no misunderstandings or surprises, if our housekeeper finds that all the fur is not swept up or if there is any fur on the beds or furniture, we will apply the ADDITIONAL $75 pet cleaning fee. I hate to be so blunt, but we have been having some real challenges with some guests ignoring the dog house rules. thank you for your understanding. Creekside has a wonderful open floor plan with the living room, dining area, and kitchen in a large L-shape; 832 sq. ft. total. There are doors and windows EVERYWHERE. You can head out to the deck from either the kitchen or the dining room. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a full size bed, plus a loft above the living room that has a full size bed (you can see the ladder to the loft in the pictures; (PLEASE NOTE THAT IT ISN'T EASY FOR EVERYONE TO CLIMB THE LADDER TO THE LOFT). WE ARE ON A DELICATE SEPTIC SYSTEM. PLEASE READ THE INFO ON THE SYSTEM IN THE HOUSE INFO BOOK ON THE DESK IN THE LIVING ROOM. Dutch Bill Creek is a stone's throw away from the deck; you can hear the creek running from the bedrooms. The creek is seasonal, and, depending on the rainfall, goes dry from around June to October. There is a 40" HD television and we have cable-tv which includes ON-Demand programming as well as streaming Netflix, Spotify, and more. Wherever possible, we use high-efficiency florescent lights. These lights sometimes take a moment to illuminate. We do have back-up light bulbs on the top shelf of the closet in the small bedroom.
We are right on Dutch Bill Creek, a tributary of the famed Russian River. World Class Russian River Valley Wineries are within a short drive on Monte Rio, as are the towns of Occidental and Jenner, and the Pacific Coast. Monte Rio itself is a very quiet town four miles past Guerneville. There are a handful of shops and restaurants in Monte Rio, proper; including a movie theater in a barn - yes, a barn. Guerneville, just five minutes away, has plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, markets (including a 24-hour Safeway), banks, gas stations, and more. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is right there as well. At certain times, such a holidays, long weekends, or Russian River event weeks, there may be a longer minimum stay. We will certainly tell you the options available upon receiving your request.
  • I was looking for seclusion and quiet and this place was wonderful! There is a neighbor right next door but I didn’t hear them once. The cabin is cozy and well-appointed. I like to cook for myself and the kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, utensils, a blender, a full-size fridge and gas range so I was very happy cooking here! Peter was caring and attentive and responded quickly to my questions. The sound of the creek right outside is pure heaven and the big glass window allow the light to pour in in the morning. I wanted to have a place to have personal work retreat surrounded my nature and the wifi worked great. I also was able to do some drawing on the deck. I took a walk up the road in the morning and it was so quiet in 45 minutes only one car passed me. The place feels clean and open and unfussy and at the same time cozy and comfortable in the chilly nights with wall heater, bedroom baseboard, the wood stove and all. Although the comforter is so warm and cozy no heat is needed in the chili nights. ( if you’re coming from another part of the country, please know that even if it’s a really hot day nighttime can be quite cool.) I appreciated the homey touches like a soft throw blanket on the couch and cloth napkins and placemats for the dining table. I hope to come back soon! Oh, yes and it was CLEAN - that’s a big deal to me!

  • Cozy, lovely spot that had everything we needed! Nestled within the redwoods but still bright with lots of windows. Loved seeing and hearing the rushing creek literally steps from the back door. Peter was immediately available when we needed help getting around a road closure on our way up. Would love to come back!

    Sue2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house was cozy, and also plenty spacious for four adults. Great location to get to hiking trails and vineyards. We will definitely return.

    Mark2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is incredibly clean and comfortable. It is simply decorated but has everything you might need. There are enormous windows in the main spaces of the house which let you enjoy the beauty of the trees and creek even when you're inside. The cabin is also really conveniently located -- just minutes from Guerneville, the coast, and incredible state parks.

  • Peter has a charming and very comfortable place. Directions and home instructions were spot on, the home is spotless and cozy. The gas fire heats up the place very quickly even when on the lowest setting. We would definitely consider a return visit.

  • Peter's house is clean, spacious and well-kept. All amenities were in great working order. Peter is very responsive, check-in process was smooth, we had a great relaxing time!

  • Stunning home with redwoods all around. Full kitchen with a gas stove and all the appliances and dishes - a real treat to get to cook well in an airbnb. A fireplace and a giant hot tub. Comfy beds we slept soundly. Even a laundry machine! We were stoked to be in such a cozy home so close to the coast.

    Jonas2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Peter’s place is beautiful. We loved the location and how nice everything is inside. Very cozy at night when it was cold outside. Peter was also helpful with suggestions for restaurants. Highly recommend.

    El2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Peter’s place. The home was extremely clean and beds were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large hot tub. Definitely very comfortable for 2 adults and 2 kids. Communication with the host was easy and great!

    Jean2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Peter’s place is exactly as described - which is precisely what we all needed for a relaxation stay in a beautiful location, tucked away in the trees. Loved the the view while enjoying brunch on the deck, and the sight of the sky from the hot tub at night. Peter is very straight forward about husband expectations and what is provided as well.

    Keari2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time there, place has a good feel to it and a nice view of the Russian river. Clean and cozy and very accessible too.

    Johanna2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Peter's place. The kitchen served us well and we enjoyed time our time in the living room. The hot tub was also a real treat. As a note for others with a sensitive nose, just mentioning that the downstairs area (where bedrooms and full bathroom are located) had a musty sort of "basement smell" at the time of our visit.

Welcome to Velouria, our cabin in the redwoods of northern California. With a cosy loft bedroom in the main house, a romantic wood burning stove, a guest cabin located on the property and a new outdoor hot tub, surrounded by vaulted redwoods. It has everything to make your forrest retreat perfect. It's close to downtown Guerneville and many beautiful local attractions, nature trails and renown vineyards.
This special cabin has a very unique, treehouse feel to it. Sit with a good book on one of the sundecks or in the tree-hung hammock by day, then warm yourself in the cosy living-room with rustic log fire when it gets dark, then have a relaxing night time dip in the hot tub before trundling of to your bed.
Velouria is located in a secluded neighborhood of historic Guerneville in the wilds of West Sonoma. Located only 69 miles North of San Francisco, the A-frame cottage is situated at the end of a cul de sac atop a mountain ridge with beautiful views. Historic downtown Guerneville has recently been in the vacation spotlight as a intimate town that combines a rich experience of pioneer life with wine country luxury. Rent a canoe or kayak and sail the legendary Russian River. Visit renown wineries, sample the alternative local nightlife or go reclusive and wander amongst the lush Redwood forrest rife with wildlife such as wild turkeys, red wing hawks, deer families and colorful songbirds.
  • Truly magical. Relax in the lounge chairs under the immense tree canopy and enjoy the bluebirds, hawks, and stars. The house is literally surrounded by trees with huge windows and skylights to enjoy from all sides. There was plenty of firewood left behind to light a fire to warm the house. The bathroom is spa-like overlooking the garden. Definitely recommend and will be back.

Enjoy the magic of the redwoods and the beauty of the Russian River in our rustic hilltop cabin. Come for fresh air, comfort, quiet, charm, simple and beautiful design, and river time.
“Camp Noon" was built over 100 years ago. We fell in love at first sight and have spent the last few years restoring it to preserve its historic features and renovating for some modern comforts and design. Unlike your typical Russian River getaway, our property is in a clearing so we have lots of sun overhead. We named it Camp Noon to evoke summer days when the sun is high and there's plenty of time. It's a gem! The cabin is a work in progress, with a blend of new features: a Scandinavian wood burning stove, skylights, Heath tile in the bathroom, brand new beds and bedding (as of May 2019), and older features like the raw redwood floors, board and batten paneling, 50s formica countertops and a huge claw foot tub. Please note that the cabin is very old — single-wall construction, gaps in the floorboards (which are creaky!), thin glass windows— our guests should expect a rustic experience. The front room of the house is a large, open space, with cathedral ceilings, and three skylights that illuminate the house during the day and allow for stargazing at night. The wood burning stove warms up the room in the winter time, and you'll find plenty of places to curl up and relax. We have a record player, records, books, and games to keep you entertained. The cabin has two bedrooms, each one with a brand new queen-size bed and frame, purchased in May 2019. There's room for more in the living room — we have a daybed couch and two twin beds. Each bedroom has soft linens and cozy blankets and we provide extra bedding for the living room when hosting more than 4 guests. The bathroom has a large beautiful claw foot tub and newly installed Heath tiles. The kitchen is a wonderful place for everyone to congregate, with three large picture windows that look out onto the redwoods. Enjoy lively meals at the large farm table. We have an electric stove, a brand new refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a toaster oven. We also stock all of the regular kitchen tools (pots, pans, knives, cutting board, spatulas, etc). The back yard is great for BBQ's. We have fairy lights set up in the back, perfect lighting for an evening outside. The front porch is the crown jewel. Swing on the hammock, sip morning coffee, read on the couch, and listen to the crickets on summer nights. The porch has a treehouse feel. We also have stacks of fluffy blankets to curl up with if it's cold out. The cabin is fully stocked with eco-friendly, good-smelling shampoo, soaps, dish soap, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, spare light bulbs, q-tips, trash bags, and sponges. The bath towels are soft and new and 100% cotton. Please bring your own beach towels. WINTER In the winter, the neighborhood is very quiet. If you're seeking solitude in the redwoods, you'll find it here. The forest can be chilly, damp, and foggy but the cabin is equipped to keep you warm: ***WE HAVE HEAT***-- a brand new, high-efficiency furnace that warms the cabin. The cabin is very old, uninsulated and definitely drafty but we try to provide amenities to keep you cozy. SUMMER The summer days can range in temperature from 75-100 degrees, with nights much cooler, in the 50s and 60s. While the beach in Summerhome Park is exclusive (members-only), there are 3 public beaches within a mile of the cabin: Mother's Beach, Steelhead Beach, and Sunset Beach. We provide rafts, a beach umbrella, and a 1-person kayak for our guests. You are welcome to eat and drink at The Lodge on the river. FALL The Russian River is magical in the fall. The crowds thin and it's very peaceful. The morning fog is fresh and the forest is quiet. The river is still navigable by canoe through October and during the week you might have the whole stretch of it to yourselves. The nights are cooler — perfect for building a fire in the wood burning stove, with the firewood we provide. SPRING The forest air is fresh and rejuvenating, the neighborhood is quiet, and the river is still wild from winter. You probably won't be able to swim in the river until the early summer, but it can still be enjoyed from the shore. You are welcome to eat and drink at The Lodge on the river. The beach! Camp Noon is just a 5 minute drive to Mother's Beach, a bit further to Sunset Beach, and about 20 mins to Steelhead Disclaimer: The place is a hundred years old and the renovation is still a work-in-progress, so there are still some quirks and rough edges: The wood floors are raw and have been through a lot, some of the windows stick, and the kitchen floor has original laminate from the 40s. If things like that sound like "rustic charm," this house is for you, if they sound like offensive hazards, probably not. The cabin isn’t necessarily kid-friendly but many families have made it work by being vigilant with little ones.
Although Sonoma County has grown up around it, this neighborhood is tucked into the woods, with a nostalgic summer-camp feeling. The weekdays and the off season are very peaceful.
  • Beautiful setting to relax and enjoy nature!

    Stacy2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a weekend getaway and we loved the space! Stylish and cozy and we loved the wood burning stove. Location is about 20 mins away from Healdsburg and close to the surrounding wine country. Wish we could have stayed a little longer.

    Nicolai2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely one of the best places I’ve ever been to! I am so glad that I found this cabin! If you are looking for a place to create good memories and have a great time with friends you just found it!

    Ester2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • 3 of us stayed at camp noon for 2 nights in February. It was a cute escape in the redwoods. I’d highly recommend getting to the Airbnb while it’s still light out, it’s tucked away in the woods, lots of winding one lane roads with drop-offs for traffic going both ways. Also just getting to the parking spot would be difficult in the dark. If you’re renting a car choose a compact one! The location was a good base for us to explore... we drove to the coast, did some hiking at Armstrong, and went to a couple vineyards. Breakfast at both the backyard and willow wood market cafe were excellent! The experience of camp noon matched our expectations and we had a great time. It is a rustic cabin experience. I do wish the main room had a little bit more of a living room set-up. The seating situation is a bit awkward for groups. Other notes- the heat and WiFi worked great for us! Also the beds were comfortable.

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time back and the place was as cute and comfy as we remember. A close-by peaceful retreat for city dwellers. Thanks!

    Julie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin in the woods is definitely special and it was so nice to spend a few nights there. The owners clearly care for the place and make it as comfy as possible, regardless of it's age and few quirks. I visited mid-week in the off season (Feb) and from what I could tell only one other neighboring home was occupied. I was looking for serenity and mostly found it! I was solo for most of the time before my friend came up for one night. There aren't curtains on any windows besides the bedrooms, and the bathrooms have textured glass- but I was aware that at night with the lights on my movements in the common spaces could easily be watched from afar. Spooked me a little but that's part of going to a cabin by yourself I guess! The Summerhome community has many houses but is also private/off the beaten path. It's a mix of both worlds I guess. Overall the cabin had everything I needed, the tub was deep and awesome with plenty of hot water to fill it up. I would stay again gladly, probably with friends during river season! PS It was an easy, beautiful drive out to the coast (plenty of coastal walking you can do in nearby Jenner), Guerneville had it's off-season charm and I enjoyed an afternoon there, and Sebastopol was a great stop on my way back to inland Sonoma County, where I live. I loved exploring West County from this vantage point. Thank you to the hosts for sharing this piece of beautiful Sonoma County with the world! <3

  • We had a great stay here. It’s perfect for two couples to get away and unplug for a few days.

  • Convenient location but does not have direct river access , located on shady side of the mountain and is nestled in beautiful redwoods. Hot tub a plus! It was chilly at night but space heaters helped. Walking distance to convenience store.

  • We only stayed one night at the accommodation. The communication was great with lots of helpful info. The hot tub is amazing and a great way to relax our doors. This was a great find and we enjoyed our short stay. We were two couples and the layout worked really well. The only thing I would say is being big guys the beds are smaller than we are used to.

  • This place was exactly what we had hoped for. Something that is great to note, this place is like two perfect little one bedroom apartments. The setup is almost identical upstairs and downstairs with two high end bathrooms with super awesome showers and beds and fridges on separate floors for nice privacy, so for two couples it would be amazing. We just used the upstairs portion to conserve water and heat. The view was perfect, it had everything we needed to decompress, and we are already planning our next trip back. 5 stars across the board!!!

  • This is a perfect place to stay - just book it!

    Kirk2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic cabin in the woods. You can't really beat a place like this. We loved the knotty pine on the interior and rough-hewn on the exterior. Situated on a steep hill among giant redwoods overlooking a bridge and the river. Comfortable beds. Remodeled bathroom, kitchen, everything. Incredible hot-tub made of wood. I enjoyed waking up to the sight of fog blanketing the Russian River. Good price, too. JUST BOOK IT ALREADY.

    Brad2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a charming little spot for a wine-country (or in our case oyster-country) getaway. Cute, quiet treehouse w/ a wine barrel hot tub and owner who’s totally available and accommodating. Sign me up again ASAP!

    Taylor 2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed in the river treehouse to get away from the city and enjoy Valentines weekend. The place was sparkling clean and had a great view of the Russian river. The cedar hot tub was the best part of the trip for us but we did enjoy wine tasting and good food all nearby. We'd definitely visit again!

Deep forest, **extremely quiet**, small Hot tub tucked into the forest, Koi pond, water sounds, romantic and cozy yet so very private. The Russian River is a short drive, walk or hike down the hill.
Tucked away on a hill top, quiet, a place to come to to relax. The back yard is natures paradise with a small trail to Koi pond and a small hot tub to enjoy.
Monte Vista Terrace is a small country road, one lane road, in order to enjoy such a remote property, the road is the sacrifice to get here. safe for walks and hikes. All of the neighbors are friendly and helpful.
  • Kenneth's place was very cozy and inviting. There was a bottle of wine waiting when you enter and it was very clean. He was communicative, there was reserved parking, and we felt welcome. The hot tub was great and the fluffy cat that visited was a bonus. It's the perfect retreat with a host that's thought of everything you'll need!

    Marissa2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneth’s place is truly wonderful. Nestled in the trees, quiet, cute and well appointed. Everything you need is available in the apartment including multiple towels, robes and cooking utensils. You can wake up and watch the sunrise from bed and it’s wonderful. The walk down to the hot tub is lovely and siting amongst the trees while soaking is truly amazing. Kenneth himself is the consummate host. It was our short honeymoon and we arrived to a some food treats and a cake to celebrate. He was kind, available and just really lovely. The only thing to be careful with is that the ceiling is low.. if you are over 6foot you can’t stand! When we mistakenly hit our hand on the ceiling Kenneth came right down thinking we had called him up...that’s how nice he is! Extra bonus there is a cool cat who just loves hanging out!

  • Excellent place. It is nested in the woods and has the most amazing setting to wind down. Host was great. He offered many amenities that made our experience even better. Would definitely recommend this place.

  • The Henhouse is a wonderful retreat! We've stayed in AirBNBs all over the world, and this is one of our favorites, and luckily close to home. We'll definintely be back. Not only is the space gorgeous and cozy (love the hot-tub and grill on the deck), but the host, Kenneth, provides all kinds of charming touches: we had a bottle of wine waiting for us, a fridge stocked with eggs and other breakfast items, and robes and slippers for the hot tube. The property is surrounded by beautiful redwoods, and the Terraces section of Monte Rio is a wonderful spot for a morning walk or job. The bed was extremely comfortable. And the inverted-rooster wine rack, in the kitched, is the most delightful object I've seen in a year ;) Excellent communication and hospitality, in a beautiful, relaxing setting.

    Kevin2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ken is truly a super host! He was very communicative leading up and throughout our stay, answering any questions that came up. We arrived to delicious freshly baked chocolate cake and a bottle of wine - an amazing treat after a long drive up. Beautiful property in the forest. A great value for a luxuriously relaxing retreat.

    Traci2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. The Hen House is a very cute, comfortable, clean and cozy place in the forest. It’s super peaceful and relaxing. Ken is a great host. Welcoming, accommodating and discreet. Just note if you’re tall that the ceiling is at 6’.

    Romain2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Hen House was a perfect, romantic getaway. It is a quiet little place tucked away in the mountains. The hot tub was great, kitchen well stocked, and bed to die for! Ken greeted us with a bottle of wine then respected our privacy for our stay. We loved our stay here and would love to come back!

Perched on a hillside in the Monte Rio Terraces, this cozy one bedroom cabin is surrounded by soaring redwoods, and beautiful views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Pet friendly, sleeps up to 4, with a short walk to the beach and groceries.
FYI- my cabin in Monte Rio, and the entire western Sonoma County were not directly affected by the recent Kincade fire! The whole area is open again, beautiful, and the air is clean...autumn is always nice there. It's a great getaway for any end-of-year trips. Get out of town and come check out a sweet, cozy cabin under the redwoods! You'll love the privacy, sweet aromas, and the soothing sounds of the flowing creek next door! AND, if you're a lover of IPAs like me, a special treat may await you in the fridge! But please let me know several days ahead of your check-in date so I can remember to stock it up. Here's what you'll experience at my Charming Cabin, sometimes referred to as "The TreeHouse": Excitement builds as you climb the gentle stairway that reveals the three wide floor-to-ceiling windows of your hilltop aerie. Once tucked inside the romantic wood-paneled warmth, you will stay cool and relaxed – it’s always at least 10 degrees warmer below in town - and nighttime often offers exceptional opportunities to snuggle up with blankets – to read, write, play, or just daydream about what tomorrow holds. The TreeHouse cabin has a wide-open feel that combines old world charm with a contemporary aesthetic and a fun, retro 50s kitchen that’s both a little bit kitschy and way classy. The kitchen retains period charm and gets some updating with a sweet eat-in dining area. As with the rest of the house, the windows look out into the redwoods with additional light provided by the kitchen skylight that opens to the stately trees above. Fully equipped with wireless internet, phone, and television, the TreeHouse allows you to plug-in or tune into almost any century. The large overstuffed leather reading chair seems to invite you in with your hard-cover book, iPad, Nook, or last year’s stack of old magazines, to sit next to the wood burning fireplace and imagine a wintertime reverie. One surprise may delight those seeking a different kind of getaway: located in the living room, a hidden secretary writing desk ready for your laptop. A best-selling book and scores of known essays have been penned here. With two decks and an upper picnic/sitting area, there are plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the surrounding redwoods. The side deck affords the most intimate and private space with comfortable lounge chairs. Perched high above a soothing hillside stream, the forest sounds can be heard while taking in a lazy afternoon. Terraced behind the TreeHouse at the top of the property, is a sitting area anchored with a charming redwood picnic table. It’s the perfect place for larger outdoor snacking, family meals, and unwinding with your favorite beverage! Situated high above the street, views of the remote lightly traveled hillside road are buffered through the trees providing a delightfully secluded feel. A charming home that's perfect for 2-4 people (the sofa folds out for additional bed space), the TreeHouse is nestled in an array of trees as fragrant as they are majestic. Welcome to a new experience, one you’ll likely want to make a lifelong tradition!
The TreeHouse spot is truly magical. In fact, the whole neighborhood is. A forest cover of evergreens (mostly coast redwoods) provide a constant feeling of shade throughout the day, with a coolness of temperature that's constant, and fog that's sometimes present. Light changes (sun does break through in several places), throughout the day, provide a variety of experiences. Textures, colors and aromas will greet one as they stroll the narrow, winding roads throughout the neighborhood. The Terraces has friendly neighbors and visitors (several with sweet dogs). It's a cool place.
  • The Treehouse is great! It’s perfect for two people and very cozy. It’s off the main road and canopied by the redwoods so it’s very cool and quiet. David was excellent at providing local tips and answering any questions that we had. We would definitely love to come back!

    Brooke2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • David was a fantastic host and the Tree House is a special spot. I can see now why many people love this peaceful getaway nestled in the woods.

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved David's place. We spent a relaxing weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We were very comfortable, loved the fire and the gorgeous surroundings. Our dog was super comfy there too. I appreciated David's recommendations of places to go. We recommend Coffee Bazaar 100%, and they also let dogs inside! Armstrong Redwoods is breathtaking, but the woods around David's house are also stunning. We can't wait to come back in summer to enjoy the deck!

    Jules2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • David is an amazing host - quick responses, understanding, great local tips, and truly wants all his guests to feel welcomed. The space was a bit smaller than we anticipated, but WOW the community it is in. Definitely take a long stroll around the neighborhood just to stare at the houses and breathe the fresh air. Quick walk to an adorable downtown. Definitely head David's advice and do not drive to the property in the dark... he isn't saying that for nothing. Amazing space and I cannot wait to return!!!

    Sophia2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A very beautiful cabin in a very secluded spot. Could not have been in a nicer, cute town with plenty to do around. There is a small creek next to the house that you can hear all night and is very peaceful. Be very careful on the roads up to the cabin, the roads are a little old and going up my cars oil pan broke. Luckily there are plenty of nice mechanics around. I would stay again, and I will. Absolutely gorgeous.

    Xavier2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect home base for a long weekend spent exploring Sonoma County. Clean, cozy, great kitchen, surrounded by giant redwoods. Even though it feels remote, the location is really convenient: for example, there's a cafe with amazing Israeli food walking distance from the cabin (Lightwave Coffee).

Find us on instagram @tworiversretreats and www.tworiversretreats.com Located high in the redwoods of Monte Rio, the Crow's Nest provides a birds eye view of the old growth forest surrounding the property. Take in the stunning views from our patio, the hot tub, or through the many large windows in the cabin.
With its open floor plan, and airy design, the Crow's Nest invites you to relax in an environment that both captures and emphasizes the sublimity of the massive redwoods which envelop it. The spatiality of the interior, its many windows and doors, creates a texture that feels both in and of the vistas surrounding the property. Hardwood floors are featured throughout the house, adorned with all manner of rugs, to complement the woodsy quality of the property. The pellet stove, and assortment of blankets, encourage residents to get cozy by the fire and take in the ambiance of the area. The kitchen is fully stocked with modern appliances and cookware. We have a french press for that burst of energy in the morning, or make a smoothie in our blender. Engage with each other while you cook on our stools in the kitchen and then find a place on our patio, under the stars, to enjoy your meal. Our picnic table seats 4 and is perfect for intimate meals. Our master bedroom is situated in the loft area, the capstone of the property. Skylights and windows create a seamless transition between inside and outside, giving you the best of both worlds: sleeping under the stars while also being able to swaddle yourself in the creature comforts of the bedroom. Whether that’s on our queen sized bed, or the couch, feel free to stretch your legs. The downstairs bedroom is dual purpose, complete with a full size murphy bed that opens and closes depending on your needs. Step outside the french doors to the wraparound veranda and discover just how close you are to nature. A main feature of this house is the redwood that bisects the portico and injects the deck with life. A separate brick patio offers a fire pit and plenty of seating. Gather around the fire, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Our hot tub lies further down a path in the woods. It’s remote, surrounded by a chapel of Redwoods, and perfect for relaxing. Take a morning dip, an afternoon respite, or sip cocktails under the stars. The Crows Nest can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests, with parking availability for 2 cars. Per Sonoma county legislation, all fires must be extinguished by 10pm and quiet hours are enforced between 10pm and 7am.
From the property, you have captivating views of the Redwoods. The Russian River flows 15 minutes from the door, is easily walkable, but the return is steep. The river is dog friendly, and amenities in the quaint town of Monte Rio include kayak and canoe rentals, Lightwave Cafe, Bartlett’s Market, and the historic Rio theater. We share our neighborhood with many great neighbors, including foxes, deer, a wide variety of birds, and so much more!
  • Absolutely serene. The hot tub, the decoration touches, and the vibe was just all amazing. Would recommend to anyone and will come back myself

    Tianne2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so charming I kind of selfishly wish I were the only one who knew about it. But it provided my boyfriend and me with a blissful, romantic couple of days and I think everyone deserves a little bit of that magic in their lives. The hot tub was sublime and the space is just perfect—from the secludedness to the decor and layout. We are also quite active in the kitchen and cocktail-making department and were relieved to see the kitchen had everything we needed—including a cocktail shaker for making margaritas! We were also appreciative of how easy it was to get to the place, especially considering how secluded and peaceful it felt. We're definitely coming back in the summer!

  • We had high expectations of The Crow's Nest from friends, and we were not disappointed! We had a glorious two nights in this beautiful cabin in the woods with our Pomeranian, Memo, and had a great time. We were very comfortable and appreciated all the thoughtful touches. You can tell that they have really thought about the guest when creating this space. The deck was even bigger than we expected, and it was lovely to spend time outside. The climb up to the front door was more challenging than we expected, but well worth the effort.

  • The Crow’s Nest is hands down one of the best stays I’ve ever had. It’s truly a wonderful little cabin tucked away in the trees. Holly and Cherie were great hosts- they were very responsive, provided clear instructions for check-in and check-out, and suggestions for activities in the area. I can’t recommend this stay highly enough.

"This is one of the most special places on Airbnb." - Beau, August 2017. "A most sublime space, location, feel, aroma. Spoil yourself and take advantage of one of the most peaceful and beautiful spaces I have been. More specifically, the comforts - beds, pillows, views, kitchen, etc. all are five star." - Tim, Oct 2015
Featured on the TV show “Tiny House Hunting," s02 e11. Contemporary, comfy home with hot tub overlooking the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Modern living amidst ancient redwoods. Said one guest: "I haven't been this at ease in years." See why "I am convinced Robert's place is the best airbnb ever." "PERFECT. I can't wait to come back." "MAJOR PROPS for the speaker system." “I've probably already taken 200 photos from your deck." “I haven't been this pleased and at ease in years." “You have the most lovely and righteous oasis in the woods." “Feeling so lucky to be here." "MAGICAL" This really special and lovely home is under 90 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge (without traffic...). Fabulous, tasteful, well-maintained, and totally modern, the house is built into a hill in the redwood forest and overlooks the Russian River Valley. The thoroughly contemporary "cabin" is located near the little town of Monte Rio, CA (about 3 miles west of Guerneville). There is nothing better than sitting in that hot tub overlooking the pristine beauty of the gorgeous russian river valley. The place is great for a couple or a solo traveler who just wants to chill out in a really beautiful and special place. About the place. The house is about 720 sq ft and thoroughly modern with an ingenious use of space. The "loft like" bedroom is atop a spiral staircase. From the bed are redwood trees framed by skylights. Linens are provided. There is a large deck with a table for outside meals, and there is a wonderful hot tub. The hot tub will take several hours to warm up after you arrive and will get up to 104 - the manufacturer does not let the tub get hotter than 104. The hot tub is treated between guests and fully serviced on Wednesdays so if your visit includes a Wednesday the hot tub people might show up and we can let you know ahead of time at what time to expect them. There are two couches outside as well. The speaker system for the excellent indoor/outdoor stereo system really enhances chilling out on the deck. The place has a very modern kitchen with an electric stove. There is a gas grill on the deck, and we try to provide enough propane for the grill. You will find the usual implements of cooking destruction. Some guests bring and leave spices and oils and some things accumulate (mustard, oregano) and others go quick (olive oil). Just to be safe, if you love to cook you can bring what you know you need, or check what's been left first and just replace what you use. You can walk down the hill to a lovely beach on the Russian River, and the walk takes about 10-15 minutes. If you are walker, you can walk about a mile to Monte Rio where there are a few restaurants, cafes, and bars (some only open in the Summer months). Guerneville, which has more restaurants and bars (including 2 gay bars) is about 3 miles away. In Guerneville and Monte Rio you can also rent canoes or kayaks for a day on the river. In the other direction, you drive along the river and in about 10 minutes come to Jenner and Goat Rock State Park, a spectacular park where river meets ocean. Bodega Bay is quite close as well. Charming Occidental, with great breakfast spots, is a short drive. You are also near the Northwood Golf Course, Armstrong Woods Park, and easily more than 50 world class wineries. Plus hiking all over the place in this overwhelming beauty. Unlike many local listings, you get the comfort of knowing we obtained a vacation rental permit that mandates the 2 guest limit. So no additional guests and unfortunately no children or pets either. Thanks in advance for understanding. Note that only Verizon and Sprint have a cell signal here. Also note that the "heater" option is not checked. There is no heating in this house! There is a wood burning stove, and we recommend buying wood if you would like a fire. There is kindling provided but if you might have trouble starting a fire in a fireplace, we recommend bringing Duraflame logs with you. You'll be glad you did. The house lets in abundant light. This is by design! This is noted because some guests may want to bring an eye mask. This place is a great opportunity to just chill out, go explore Sonoma county, taste wines - whatever you want. Many guests don't ever even want to leave the place at all. The house is gorgeous, and the area spectacular. You'll love it! Guests have access to the entire house and surrounding property, including the hot tub, outdoor gas grill, and speaker system. Plus it is an easy walk to the Russian River for sightseeing and summer swimming. The hosts are not present during the visits from guests. When booking is complete, we provide an access code to retrieve keys to the house and we email a "welcome letter" with house rules and suggested activities in the area. We are available 24/7 by phone and check email frequently, but try to leave guests alone. The "neighborhood" is a 5mph country road that winds through a redwood forest. There are not many neighbors and the folks you do see out walking are friendly. The best thing about the "neighborhood" is the scenic walks, the proximity to the Russian River and surrounding activities like hiking, swimming, biking, great restaurants, and, of course, wine tasting. Parking is included, and a car is required. Note that a large SUV will have trouble navigating the narrow country roads. SPECIAL NOTE: Friday and Saturday bookings must include a 3rd night, either Sunday or Thursday, unless the Thursday or Sunday is already booked. Last minute exceptions can be accommodated when possible.
The "neighborhood" is a 5mph country road that winds through a redwood forest. There are not many neighbors and the folks you do see out walking are friendly. • This place is truly amazing. My only regret is that I didn't bring food with me so that I didn't have to leave at all during stay! I was considering spending the day wine tasting, but once I saw the incredible deck and realized that I could spend the whole day there, I completely changed my plans. I did leave to head down to Sonoma Coast State Park to watch the sunset, which I definitely recommend. Also, heed Robert's advice and do not drive to the house for the first time at night (if you can avoid it). The drive up is like nothing I have experienced, and I was very glad I wasn't doing it for the first time in the dark. Thanks, Robert! I look forward to coming back to this relaxing getaway!

  • House was super charming! Very relaxed vibe with amazing views.

    Katherine2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is adorable and the deck is breathtaking! We loved our stay! We are recommending it to all our friends.

    Shannon2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Robert's place is exactly as described by all the other reviews. It's important to note that the ONLY source of heat is the fire that you build when you arrive. Without fire you will not have a pleasant or comfortable stay in January when the temperatures reach the low 40s at night. That being said, we burned through 6 bundles of wood that we purchased at the Safeway in Guerneville. We supplemented with some of Robert's wood, but you will definitely need to bring your own.

    Lanette2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Robert's place was amazing! It's quiet and secluded, had everything we needed, and we loved the hot tub and the fireplace!

  • Heads up: Robert’s place is *spectacular* in a way that hits you as soon as you check in. The deck area with its view high up in the trees left me speechless. You’re really in a special spot there amongst the redwoods. All host descriptions are accurate & everything worked well. Bed was comfortable, the hot tub was perfect, and it was helpful to have a full kitchen. Robert was quick and friendly with replies when I had questions. I would absolutely stay here again and have already recommended it to several friends.

  • Beautiful serene setting. Comfy homey feeling. Every amenity you could need. Super clean.

  • Cherie's place is indeed a redwoods retreat. Such a cute cabin on the side of the hill. Quiet and secluded, with easy access to Guerneville and then on to Healdsburg and other winery areas as well as the coastal redwood park.

    Chriss2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot nestled in the redwoods. Everything was exactly described and exceeded our expectations. The only downside that I could bring up is the lack of parking but this is somewhat expected in the area. If you only have one car though this is perfect! Would highly recommend.

  • Beautiful lay out and big window views of the redwoods. Loved the living room and balcony. Favorite part was having my morning coffee in the hammock outside and having breakfast on the balcony table.

  • Wonderful place with a beautiful view. Most comfortable king size bed ever! 4 different outside sitting areas. There’s a fire pit, a deck, another deck with great sunshine, a porch hammock swing, a back area you can see the stars from. It’s very relaxing.

Enjoy the peace and quiet of a romantic retreat...cross the road to access the river or sit in the hot tub or build a lovely fire in the fire place relishing reading a book or watch a good movie! The place for a romantic get away, the perfect cottage to disconnect. The cottage is nicely situated close to downtown Monte Rio. A short drive into Guerneville provides access to a great number of excellent restaurants. Perfect for a quick get away!
Our cottage is perfect for a relaxing getaway for two. Even when you're sitting inside, the expansive windows and sliding glass doors facing the garden create the feeling of being outside. Once you've entered through the gate, the property feels private and peaceful. Enjoy time on the deck or out in the garden, watching the hummingbirds. In the spa, protected in it's own gazebo, or sleep in, listening to the brook outside the window. The cottage is cozy and well designed. With a full kitchen (with an electric stove and full size stainless steel refrigerator), as well as a gas grill for cooking at home. The main room has a wood stove with a lovely stone surround. The bedroom features a new queen size bed, plush linens, and a sliding glass door that opens to the spa, steps away.
  • Michelle’s cottage is the perfect spot to relax and unwind. The location is unbeatable! Nestled into the redwood tread along the Russian river it feels like you’ve entered a fairly tale. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need to cook, and the wood burning fire was a nice touch. We also really enjoyed the hot tub on site, it was a perfect touch to a great stay!

  • Super cute spot in the redwoods. Loved the fireplace and hottub. The toiletries were helpful and location was great.

  • My wife and I stayed here and we plan on coming back! Great spot near town and a cool plus hearing the creek at night.

    Robert2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy little cabin complete with hot tub. Very close to downtown Monte Rio and minutes from both Gurnville to the east and the Ocean to the west. Would definitely stay here again.

    Andrew2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Cute cottage close to Sonoma Coast beaches where we hiked. We brought a dog that loved the mostly enclosed area outside of the cottage which is surrounded by redwoods and a rushing creek. The town is pretty quiet and a bit rundown. We walked across the road and down to the river’s edge which did not look appealing since there was trash around and the water looked murky. We had a lovely time hiking nearby then cooking and relaxing by the fireplace. It was quite chilly in the cottage but the plug in heater and fireplace warmed the rooms comfortable very quickly and efficiently. The cottage had everything we needed to cook including extra spices and extra toiletries. Overall a lovely time and perfect for our needs.

  • Thank you, Rick, for being a wonderful host! The comfort and coziness of the space was perfect for us. The cleanliness was obvious and appreciated. Your location in the forest was extremely quiet and gave us the weekend we wanted. Lighting is important to me and the choices I had to dim or brighten the room was great. Your hot tub was the best and so relaxing! Plenty of hot water for showers and the heating was most comfortable. We really will remember our lovely stay in Monte Rio, thank you.

    Terry2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nicely appointed and well maintained property. We were very comfortable. The drive to the house is up narrow, winding roads. There is a long set of steps from the parking area up to the cottage. The space is quiet and secluded. We enjoyed our stay.

    Piers2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • It was a perfect stay from beginning to end. Rick gave us excellent instructions to find the place, and the place was full of lovely touches to make us feel at home. Sitting in the hot tub and watching the full moon was beautiful! Lovely chalet. Would absolutely stay there again the next time we're in town for an event in guerneville.

Through your own private entrance, set on the side of a hill and above the river sits your peaceful private oasis. Leave your high heels behind and travel 70 miles north of the Golden Gate to your private master suite, bathroom and deck among gardens and redwoods. Close to wineries, hiking trails, quaint towns and the coast. Get ready to relax and create beautiful memories at Snug Arbor.
Along a pathway, down stone steps sits your private space below the main cottage. Low-key casual - decorated in a style I call "Flea Market finds Pottery Barn and bumps into Don Draper ". If this is just what the doctor ordered, please continue. Vintage chaise lounges get great afternoon sun. Or if you decide to stay snuggled in your feather mattress topped queen iron bed, that's ok too. There is a bath tub for two for soaking, (not a jacuzzi) and a seperate shower. There is also penty of closet space. You enter and leave through French doors ready for a much needed life - off the beaten path in a place where time has forgotten.
This is a wonderful eclectic and safe neighborhood. Clusters of small cottages and cabins hug the hilltop along a narrow single country road above the river and under beautiful Redwoods. Close, but yet far away. You access your private suite down steps and pathways. There is a sunny deck to relax on and headlamps are provided should you want to take an evening walk. Snug Arbor is walking distance to a few restaurants, grocery stores, a movie theater and river beaches. Keep in mind, you are on a hill, so if walking up and down hills and pathways seem problematic, take your car. You are a short drive away to Guerneville, Occidental, Duncans Mills and Jenner for more dining and shopping options. The Russian River Valley encompasses more than 15,000 acres of grapevines, 35 varieties of wine and 110 wineries. After a day of wine and great food, take to nature on the many beautiful hiking trails through the redwoods or coast. Both the ocean and canopy tours are less than a 15 minute drive.
  • Mary's place is super cozy and in the middle of so many great little towns. We had a great stay. Heads up the jets in the tub don't work and limited hot water by the time it fills up. Be sure to the try the fish and chips at cape fear cafe! It's uhhhmazing

    Waleed2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's directions were right on point! Read the message she sends you and you'll be just fine! Great location for lots of things in the area!

  • Marys place was extremely clean and well organized. She shared great local spots and had a kind smile.

    Joey2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend at Mary's place. She is communicative and helpful. The view is amazing and we spent quite a bit of time just enjoying the deck. Everything was as described. Driving to the coast or to any of the neighboring small towns is easy (and worth it). As we were leaving, we both said, "I think we'll be back. . . " :)

    Heather2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed my stay there.

    Bruna2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place is a perfect little spot of heaven if you are trying to get away from busy day to day life. You definitely have to be a car lover to fully appreciate the space though. We definitely are and enjoyed hanging out with Sushi during our stay. The hot tub was an extra treat with a great view. The hot water does take time but as long as you’re patient it will work. Would definitely recommend this charming space. It seems that Sushi’s studio is bigger so if you want more space check that out but snug arbor was perfect for the two of us. Thanks Mary and Sushi!

We are a ten minute walk to the beach, downhill and a ten mile drive to the ocean at Jenner. Another ten minutes inland is Guerneville, gateway to Armstrong Woods. This is Pinot country. Westside road hosts some of the best Pinots and varietal wines in the world. The views of the vineyards are spectacular on a drive towards Healdsburg. We are just up the hill from the Bohemian Grove and a world away. We have spotted Eagles hovering above the redwoods. On a clear night there are a million stars viewable from the hot tub. We have a great movie theatre recently digitized. Lots of dining options if you don't like to cook.
  • Catherine's is a lovely, comfortable, secluded cabin to escape to, tucked amongst the trees. It's tucked at the end of a maze of winding lanes, ascending a hillside, but easy to find with her careful directions, and/or Google Maps access. Could have spent the entire trip in the hot tub.

    Damon2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, clean place set back deep in the woods. Stayed a couple nights for the Bodega Chowder festival and had a great time. Would absolutely stay here again. Anything better than a hot tub in the rain? Not that I know of.

    Lance2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine’s house is perfect for a weekend getaway. Four of us stayed for two nights and there was plenty of space for us all and the kitchen is well stocked for nights cooking in. We loved the hot tub and the foggy early mornings! The pictures really don’t do the house justice — it’s a beautiful space with great views.

    Amanda2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is very charming and was the perfect little escape from our daily life. We loved the extra amenities for kids including sleeping mats and highchair as well as extra toys. The fire pit, hot tub, and bbq made our trip complete. Catherine was also very responsive when we had questions or needed a little extra help!

    Becky2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine's home in the redwoods is a perfect retreat for those who want some cozy quiet time in a beautiful natural setting. Despite feeling like a cabin in the woods, the accommodations are super comfortable and everything was sparkling clean. Rustic in only the best way. The retro (but very high quality) kitchen is excellent for cooks. Beds and bathrooms are well-stocked and comfortable, and the radiant floor heating (and wood stove) kept us toasty throughout the chilly weekend. The hot tub is nicely secluded and worked perfectly. It was a wet weekend so we didn't use most of the outdoor amenities, but I would love to come back in the summer or fall for a firepit and BBQ. The house is perfectly located along the Russian River, with an easy and beautiful drive out to the ocean and several beaches and hikes. If you're visiting from out of the area, be sure to get some fresh seafood in the coastal towns nearby.

    Ian2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic and cozy house! We had a wonderful weekend at Catherine’s place and enjoyed the fireplace and beautiful ambiance. Highly recommend!

    John2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • You won't regret staying at Catherine's place. This place is amazing... It offers such a great view of bamboo trees. Since we were visiting during the raining season, it could have been cold and humid. But the house's heated floor system and fireplace made it so comfortable and cozy. It is a must-stay place if you are in the Monte Rio area.

Most homes in the Russian River area are located in rural neighborhoods, home to a colorful, eclectic population of both full-time and vacation home residents. There are neighbors, but they're usually not too close, and you can expect the kinds of activities typical of any neighborhood. There are a range of dwelling types, and you might rub elbows with a 5th generation River resident, a Silicon Valley scion, and a Generation of Love retiree on the same block. The Russian River is a vacation destination year round, and most homes are built on roads running parallel to the River or Creek with mountains close on both sides, so there are varying degrees of noise from the roads, the River, residents and other visitors. Many roads are narrow (some may even wend and wind a bit), without much street lighting, so it's best to arrive in the daylight, if possible, and please download and use our directions. GPS, online mapping and cell service are not reliable in this area. If you have any questions about the general access to or neighborhood surrounding this home, please contact us.

  • We stayed here to celebrate my mom’s 81st Birthday. The place is very nice overlooking the river. It was very comfortable for my 12 family members. The house is quite lovely and we loved the game room and deck. The host gave us info on private beach very close to the house. We had such a lovely time! Highly recommend Moonriver to folks looking for a quiet and charming house!

  • It was the perfect place for a chill weekend with my friends! Right next to Monte Rio beach where we spent the day floating the river. Such a cool space, 10/10 would stay here again.

    Claire2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place in a lovely, quiet area. The space is really terrific for large groups. We had lots of room to gather and hang out, and plenty of private spaces where to rest up or take a break away from the group. Stace's tips for things to do in the area were super helpful – although with such a beautiful house and views, it was tempting to just stay put. :-)

    Kimberly2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Stace’s place was the perfect place for a weekend getaway. There was more than enough space for our group of 8 - we all had a great weekend of barbecuing, relaxing in the hot tub, and enjoying the ping pong and shuffle board tables.

    Zach2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • This house was a perfect accommodation for our big group. The house was clean, open and a literal stone's throw to the Russian River! Under the giant redwoods and just off the kitchen, the deck was a common hangout for us - BBQ-ing and just enjoying the reclining deck chairs. The other common hangout spot was the garage where ping pong tourneys were constant. And the shuffle board was quite impressive!! There was one minor hiccup during our stay, so I placed a call to Stace. Within an hour a repairman was at the house working to fix the issue!!! A+ responsiveness and communication! I would absolutely recommend you stay at Moon River. I hope to come back in the summertime to enjoy some river activities! Thanks for everything, Stace!!! :-)

  • House was very well described in the listing. Had a lovely weekend there despite the continuous rain.

    Laura2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a cozy, rainy weekend here. The house was super comfortable for our group of 12. We somehow tripped the breaker in the kitchen and the host responded right away to help us. Would stay here again!

  • The cottage (#2) is far enough from the road that you don't notice at all. The space is very cozy and the deck and hot tub were delightful - private, woodsy, and with a lovely view over a meadow and across the river. Very easy to get to Guerneville/Armstrong Readwoods and the Coast. Stephen was very responsive and check-in couldn't have been easier. We'd come back for sure.

    Jasper2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I mean it’s pretty much as close to the Monte Rio beach as you can get. Incredible location, dog friendly, hot tub. What more could you ask for?

    Hailey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stephens place was as advertised. The hot tub outlooks the river. It's a perfect getaway for a romantic weekend

    Chris2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage! Stephen is a great host. There was a lot of thoughtful touches. Cottage #2 is a cute studio. The bed was comfy, plenty of warm bedding for the cold nights. Great Airbnb experience for our first time.

    Melissa2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Can't wait to come back! Perfect for all seasons!

    Jessica2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cozy place for a weekend getaway. Check-in was a breeze, Stephen had a lot of great recommendations. The heater worked very well. Lots of towels provided. Pet friendly. The view of the meadow was lovely from the jacuzzi. Nice central location from neighboring towns. We had a nice stay.

    Colleen2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this cabin as a nice holiday getaway for us and our dog. Before check in, Stephen sent a thoughtful list of nearby activities and amenities. Check in was super easy and efficient. The cabin is absolutely lovely with nice touches like a Keurig, a skylight above the shower, and a bottle of wine. We spent most of our time soaking in the hot tub right next to the river and admiring the fog rolling through the clouds. We all had a really lovely and relaxing time!

    Stevie2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Sweet and cute space for a romantic getaway next to the river. The hot tub was perfect for the winter days. The white fluorescent light in the kitchen can be a bit intense but otherwise the space was perfect for two. We've discussed possibly coming back during summer time!

Gather with loved ones for dinner around a live-edge Redwood table on a leafy deck patio at this charming forest cottage. Take a dip in the private hot tub before getting cozy on a sofa beside a stone fireplace in a living room with wood paneling and robust furnishings. You'll love relaxing at Harrison Creek Cottage after a day exploring the Russian River Valley. The cottage is near world-class wineries, picturesque Russian River and Pacific Ocean beaches and charming villages to explore.
Harrison Creek Cottage was originally built in 1906. Over the years, the charming cottage has been tastefully enlarged. The recent renovation has streamlined the vintage with the new. With three bedrooms, two bathrooms and full kitchen - the cottage sleeps 5 comfortably. The interior is designed by Oakland's Nathan & Co. Our beds are outfitted in high-quality linens. The spa under the redwoods and perched above Harrison Creek - makes for an incredibly relaxing spot. Our kitchen is fully stocked with most anything a chef needs. There are three fireplaces to enjoy (family room, master bedroom and downstairs guest suite!). The garden is stunning - with paths through a lovely collection of rhododendrons, camellias, ferns and of course towering redwoods. Harrison Creek runs all year - but in rainy months a spectacular waterfall takes center stage. All this with country charm and yet an urban coolness!
Perched high above Harrison Creek the cottage is surrounded by Redwoods. The charming villages of Monte Rio, Guerneville, Occidental and Duncans Mills are all nearby. The serene forest setting is quiet, secluded and beautiful. Within minutes, you can visit the Pacific Ocean, the Russian River beaches, world-class wineries and charming villages. Some of Sonoma counties best farmer's markets, restaurants and coffee houses are nearby too.
  • Nathan and Tom’s cottage was the perfect getaway for our birthday trip! The location is peaceful and serene and the entire cottage is beautifully decorated - we felt like we were staying in a magazine! I would recommend this place to anyone!

    Mikaela2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for a week during a business trip and it was lovely having a home away from home! Nathan and Tom did a great job making us feel at home and the welcome bottle of wine was a nice touch. The place was very clean and organized and decorated perfectly! If I am in the area again, I will definitely stay again!

    Brittany2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at the Harrison Creek Cottage was a DELIGHT! Under the redwoods, there is a sense of calm and peacefulness. You are so close to wineries, the Coast, the Redwoods... pretty much anything and everything you may want to do. Comfort is key when traveling a way from home and we definitely felt comfortable from the moment we arrived - which was really late at night and in the foggy dark.. but the directions from the host and signs to the cabin made it no problem! We enjoyed the fireplaces, the hot tub, the well-appointed kitchen, super comfy beds with great linens, all the unique decorating touches... EVERYTHING! The welcome bottle of wine was appreciated and a lovely touch. Our mother-daughter was fantastic- we loved the cottage! Communication with the host was outstanding. I'd recommend this stay to anyone who's looking to get away!

  • A cozy mountain hamlet tucked away in the redwoods. We had such an effortless and relaxing stay.

    Julia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place was THE best spot to ring in the new year! The house was incredibly cute and had everything we needed. There are so many windows to look out at the beautiful landscape, and the hot tub was awesome. Would 100% go back. Highly recommend!

    Jessica2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cottage in an amazing location! Nathan and Tom are amazing hosts and went out of their way to make our stay extra special. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to all.

  • This is one of the best Airbnb's I've ever stayed in! The house is in a beautiful setting with Redwoods all around. Inside the house is beautifully decorated and fully equipped. I highly recommend staying here and can't wait to return.

  • Nathan & Tom’s Monte Rio home was amazing. The perfect weekend getaway in the woods. It was a rainy weekend but we felt so cozy and comfortable in the Airbnb we didn’t want to leave. Would love to come back!

2 Bedroom 1 Bath Riverfront with Seasonal Canoe included
Our riverfront cabin was completely redone in 2013. The full kitchen has new stainless steel appliances including a convection oven, dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer. The handicapped access bathroom has an extra large seated shower. Our 2 bedrooms each have queen bed, perfect for 2 couples or a family with children. We supply both foam and feather pillows, take your pick! There are 2 sofas in the living room which could sleep children, or you could bring air beds for the kids as there is plenty of space in the great room. The large deck overlooks the river with a gas grill for entertaining and outdoor dining for 6. We have a large meadow area between the redwoods and river with an outdoor firepit seating 6. The cabin comes with parking for 4 cars. We construct seasonal river access stairs every spring when the river recedes with a canoe provided on river. The bank of the river is very steep, and these stairs are difficult to negotiate for people with knee or hip problems. While the cabin id handicap friendly, the river access slope is not. There is a private island across a very shallow channel, with deeper river water on the other side. We have cable TV and internet service in the cabin along with a DVD player, WII consul + Games. Below the cabin is a separate efficiency apartment which is never rented out, but may be used by family from time to time so the outdoor space may be shared. 2 night minimum off-season 3 night minimum Memorial - Labor Day & Holidays County of Sonoma Transient Occupancy Certificate # 3403N
Welcome to the Redwoods. Our cabin is surrounded by these great trees. We are located 6 miles from awesome Pacific coast beaches, and are also in Sonoma wine country.

  • Directions were excellent and the place was clean and orderly. No issues what so ever. Sally left some local tips in the Vacation rental book and they were all helpful. Nice location and a comfortable home.

    Jeremiah2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed a weekend at The Redwood Butterfly and we had a great time. The place has just about all you need to make your stay comfortable and beautiful views from the deck. I truly recommend it. Sincerely, Paul E.

    Paul2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Redwood Butterfly was a great cabin on the Russian River. Wonderful place to look at birds and the water. The outdoor fire pit was great and right on the bank of the river.

    Michael2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, with views of river from living room. Large living and dining area. Rooms are small but comfortable. Gas grill on the balcony was very useful on a rainy day.

    Bayram2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great extended weekend stay. Nice quiet cabin with views of the Russian River. Had several duraflame fires in the vintage fireplace, s’mores at out side fire ring, BBQ on the deck and explored the Russian River via the provided canoe launched from the private small beach. Communication with Sally was great and meet the nice neighbors. Definitely recommended.

  • We loved our time at the cabin and the kids are already asking when we can go back. If we could give the cabin 6 stars we would! The Beers were very accommodating and thoughtful as they knew we were coming with kids, they didn't use harsh chemicals in the hot tub, which besides the bean bag chairs upstairs, was their favorite thing about the space. The home was spacious and at the same time very cozy and SO clean. The heated floors in the bathroom were such a treat for the feet. We were able to easily communicate with The Beer Family both before and during our stay and we appreciated their help when planning our time there. I would definitely return on our next stay in the Russian River.

  • Beautiful spot - river access, redwoods, hot tub, oh my! Lovely clean, new house. Great kitchen. Was perfect for our annual get together of 5 women in late 30's. Will very likely return next year. Could use a bit more things in the kitchen, and cozier bedding. But we were just fine! Very grateful.

    Jonathan2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Riverwood Cottage. There are so many thoughtful touches everywhere! We slipped right into vacation mode and enjoyed every moment here. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and we really appreciated that there are two sets of knives and every kind cookware item you could want. We planned on cooking every meal so a fully stocked kitchen made that really easy. Having access to the river was so great! The yard gave our pup even more time to run around while we just enjoyed the beautiful trees and calm environment. We are definitely looking forward to coming here again!

    Kim2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • 5 stars across the board. Great location. I will be back.

    James2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the cottage. Everything we could have needed was there. The kitchen was well stocked with all the various gadgets and tools you could use. She provided dishwasher tabs, dish soap, laundry detergent. She provides ample dog towels (much appreciated!), and the shower downstairs was great for rinsing the dogs off after their jaunt in the river. The porch area is beautiful and huge. Great place to have a coffee in the morning or dinner in the evening. The hot tub was great and well maintained. The yard area was also well maintained and offered a non river option for sunning. Fire pit was fantastic to hang out at in the evening. The “island” in the river was easy to wade to (river was low). It’s very rocky, so wear water shoes! I recommend bringing a beach chair and an umbrella (the sporting good store sells them for $15 in town). We floated our cooler and towel out to the island and just hung out for the day. There are a couple spots in the fence where the dog could get through, so keep the dog leashed or away from the fence to avoid them venturing through the neighbors yards. Would definitely rent this cottage again!

If you have any questions about the general access to or neighborhood surrounding this home, please ask.
  • This house is beautiful, spacious and private. We look forward to coming back!

  • I booked this house last year for my birthday weekend and loved it so much that I booked it again this year! I love that there's lots of communal space to hang out (big living room, kitchen, dining room, and back deck), but every couple also had their own room for some privacy. It's a beautiful spot, great location, great amenities. Highly recommend!

    Lauren2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for a large group!

    Margaret2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Bohemian House was a wonderful place to stay. I picked this house to host my family and friends for my 30th birthday. We were a group of 10 and we all had a wonderful time. Everything in the house was easy to find and the kitchen was a dream to cook in. I brought my own spices to cook with including salt and pepper! Bartlett's was a awesome bodega to walk to for last minute items. We did come on a rainy weekend so there were a few ants. All in all, I would highly recommend.

  • Great location for wine tasting, hiking in the redwoods or at the beach.

  • We LOVED our stay!!! We spent the weekend at the Artisan for my husbands 40th Birthday celebration & it did not disappoint! We loved how cozy it was but also how much space it had for our guests! So beautiful and pictures were very accurate! We had 5 couples over the week and was lovely that everyone had their own room for privacy! We look forward to staying here again and again! I also appreciate all the help that we received from Russian River Getaways with getting our trip put together and all the wonderful suggestions! It’s a must do if you ever find yourself needing a relaxing tree house in the woods!

    Amy2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • This house is gorgeous, and large and comfortable. The wood stoves are a wonderful touch. The kitchen is VERY well appointed and nicely laid out. The hosts are very easy to communicate with and we were able to get a late checkout, which meant we got to have one more meal together. Highly recommend for a friends getaway or a family reunion! We’d happily stay here again.

  • We really appreciate your help and willingness to accommodate us with changes because of the wildfires. We are hoping the best for you and everyone in the area.

This is paradise. Come stay in our cozy, private studio cabin set in a beautiful meadow in the heart of the Russian River Valley. The meadow borders the Russian River where we have a large, private beach for your enjoyment. We also provide kayaks for you to use to explore the river and experience your own national geographic moment. The cabin has all the amenities for cooking your own meals plus outdoor seating and dining complete with a charcoal barbecue for grilling a gourmet treat.
This is a snug little place and we've done our best to provide enough storage for your needs. There is no washer or dryer but if you plan on a long stay there is a laundromat located ten minutes away in Guerneville. Also, while the cabin is in located in a private meadow, we have cranky neighbors who like their privacy about 100 yards to the east and sound travels at night so we ask our guests to not play loud music or be noisy, particularly at night.
The cabin is approximately 10 minutes away from the coast. And don't miss the "Gold Coast" coffee and pastry shop or The Duncans Mills General store located 5 minutes to the west.
  • Unbelievably cozy and fun getaway on the Russian River - scenically beautiful, great local bars and restaurants, comfortable and clean accommodations, and a morning swim in the river!

Family and pet friendly, this all redwood house is practical and charming. We do request a $50 animal fee. The historic 100 year old house is one of the only original "summer cabins" in the neighborhood. It is a walking neighborhood, with or without pets, and has a neighborhood beach. Close proximity to swimming, kayaks, the giant redwoods, cafes, dining, and 10 minutes to the town of Guerneville with great shops, art, night life, and ice cream! Quick drive to the coast and fabulous wineries.
This beautiful all redwood house is brightened by large windows in every room. The master bedroom features a king bed. The smaller bedroom has a comfy vintage full bed, and the sunporch includes a trundle bed (2 twins). Cozy up on the living room couch with a good book or movie and a crackling fire in the wood stove.
A quiet sunny neighborhood with stands of redwoods. Berries galore when in season.
  • We love this little place near the Russian river and only 20 minutes to the coast. Fun, charming and historic house. We'd love to know more about the history of the house. We enjoyed the whole bean coffee provided. The hosts were just lovely to work with. Would stay again, for sure!

  • This place was perfection. We were on a skating weekend and this was 3 min drive from the Monte Rio skatepark. The house is tucked away in a forest on a quiet little road. We were super comfortable and there were even cookies waiting for us. We used the fire pit and the bbq every night and our dog (who normally lives in our apartment) was living her best life in the spacious fenced in yard. Ultra relaxing, would definitely stay here again.

  • My fiance and I were in town to look at wedding venues. This place is awesome. Loved staying here. Quiet, beautiful area, close to Monte Rio, Guerneville, Jenner. We had a fire at night (there's a firepit outside), drank wine and gazed at the stars. They provided local coffee (tasty) and milk for the freshly baked cookies they made us. They had great suggestions on local food, things to do etc. Lorri and Steve were very easy to communicate with and were very accomodating- they let us check in earlier than normal and let us check out a couple of hours later than normal. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks again Lorri and Steve.

  • Spotlessly clean home, efficient heating system plus fans to cool. Lots of hot water for four people to shower in the morning. Extremely comfortable beds, best sleep I’ve had in any hotel or rental place. Cooked full meals with everything we needed available. Stayed up till 2am playing games in dining area, comfy chairs. Nice welcome with cookies and allowed us early check in and late checkout. Our family would stay here again.

    Evelyn2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lorri's place was a great family vacation cabin, super conveniently located, and we loved the game shelf. Rooms were cozy, clean, and well appointed. We had a mixup with our dates and Lorri was super flexible and understanding. Would absolutely recommend.

    Eva2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • My mother, her dog, our friend, my husband, baby and I had a wonderful stay. The space was sparkling clean. We were comfortable letting our baby scoot around on the floor, and impressed at how clean the kitchen and bathroom were. Check-in was simple, with clear instructions and a code for easy arrival, and freshly-baked cookies awaiting us! They even let us come early and check out late since no one was coming after us. Location is awesome - a 5 minute drive from Monte Rio, and under 15 from Guerneville, but we especially loved the creek out back. Our little one LOVED getting his feet wet in the gentle stream. The house had ample space for all of us, and the beds were comfortable. We'd gladly stay here again, and highly recommend this space.
