  • Kathryn and Lyle are wonderful hosts and very accommodating. We visited in the winter because we were looking for snow. They groom their own Xcountry ski trails so it couldn't have been more perfect for us and they even took us on a night ski. Unit above the garage was perfect for us three gals with full kitchen, bathroom and very clean. Highly recommend the stay.

  • Thank you to Kathryn for making my stay exactly what I wanted and needed -- peaceful, easy, safe and quiet. The apartment is exactly as pictured. It's cozy, clean and comfortable. I felt like I had my own place, and it was very easy to come and go as I pleased. The pictures don't show how nice the house, yard, dock and lake really are. I hope to return someday soon.

  • My friends and I had an excellent time at Kathryn and Lyle's beautiful loft. It was extremely peaceful and so beautiful-- could not have asked for a more wonderful setting for a few long-time friends to reconnect and vacation. Kathryn and Lyle were perfect hosts too, and answered all our questions about this hidden pocket of northern MN and all they do up there-- which is basically everything-- amazing. Hope to come back again!

  • Wonderful retreat from our journey, travelling across America We stayed 4 days and enjoyed every minute. The surroundings are perfect, lots of wild life, great spaces for lounging, campfires, kayaking, swimming and just generally chilling out. It's remoteness is its appeal and Kathryn's home is totally amazing. Very welcoming. We would certainly stop by again if we were going this way.

Very quiet - but just 1 mile from the town of Blackduck. Blackduck is a very small community - wonderful, nice people; peaceful and quiet; beautiful lake; close to multiple outdoor activities including the Chippewa National Forest. Great area for biking - wide roads, little traffic, and few (or no) hills!
  • We stayed here for a month from mid-August to mid September and really enjoyed our visit. Jeannine and CJ are excellent hosts and the location is in a nice wooded setting overlooking the lake. We enjoyed taking the kayaks and canoe out for a spin and the bicycling in the area is really nice. Plus there is some great hiking in the area in the Lost Forty and the Bog State Park. For bicycling, the Paul Bunyan/Heartland paved trails as well as many local roads (good surfaces, low traffic) gave us lot of options for riding. The cabin tv has plenty of streaming stations and movies for those cozy indoor rainy days. This is a small, quiet resort which was just what we were looking for.

“Twin Pines” is a perfect destination for vacationers who seek beautiful northwoods surroundings to “get away from it all” any time of year. This is a large house that is a perfect place for a large family or group, but is also great for a couple looking to spend some time amongst nature.
Guests have use of the entire house which has a fully stocked kitchen and bathroom, as well as bed linens and towels. There are decks on the back and front of the house, with chairs and a covered table on the back deck. There is a large yard that is perfect for kids and pets to play in. We also just had hi speed internet installed so there is wifi available to guests. There is a small cabin on the property that we may possibly be using, but we are not there all the time.
Our place is located in the Chippewa Forest, about 15 minutes from the closet town which is Bigfork. The dirt road we are located on only has around 6 cabins on the entire 8 miles of road. There are giant red pines surrounding the house and yard, and the deck is a perfect place for star gazing.
  • Secluded, beautiful and peaceful. Want to come back in the spring or fall.

    Nicole2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful house in the middle of amazing trails and woods and beautiful lakes. We grouse hunt in the fall and cannot wait each year to return. This was our 6th year staying at Twin Pines. We hope to return next year.

A comfortable lake home with 4 roomy bedrooms. We are on Dora Lake in North Central Minnesota. A great place to relax, watch the sunset or hold a family gathering. Enjoy the very private lake lot located in the Chippewa National Forest. The Dora Lake Fishing Bridge is just down the road and we are 3 miles from the Lost Forty Area. Fishing, boating and wildlife viewing are highlights of this area, with 3 rivers connecting to Dora Lake. Set aside your every-day life and come relax by the lake.
You will have the entire 4 bedroom house on a quiet lake. The small yard is shady most of the day. A full kitchen (except dishwasher) should have most everything you need. Our dining room table seats 8 and we are child friendly. Canoes and kayaks are included and you may bring a small boat to dock. We are located 23 miles east of Blackduck, MN, 50 miles NE of Bemidji, MN and 230 miles NW of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
We love our private lot and watching sunsets from the west-facing deck. The Bowstring and Popple Rivers flow into Dora Lake and the Bigfork River flows out so it's a popular place to fish from boats or the Dora Lake Bridge. Our house is very close to the water on a small lot. You will rarely see the neighbors, but you may see loons, trumpeter swans, geese, deer, and muskrats during your stay. Just 3 miles to the Lost Forty hiking area and 22 miles to Anderson Fabric Outlet. Deer hunters are welcome. We are 35 minutes from Lake Winnibigoshish.

  • With this being our first Airbnb experience we really appreciated the special care and effort Beth and her husband took to make sure we were comfortable and had an enjoyable experience. It was just what our family needed with our busy schedules to not have to worry about anything and focus on our family keeping us connected because it can be difficult with so many age ranges to stay focused on what is important. Being able to unplug and have fun together instead of constantly being on the go was exactly what we as a family needed and what Beth provided. We thank you for the opportunity to stay here and look forward to future visits.

    Jennifer2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place was more than I expected, we had a great time. So much room to accommodate everyone and everything we needed all we had to bring was food! Beth was a great host and very responsive anytime I reached out!!

  • Well-worth the price and drive! Neither my partner or I have ever stayed in a treehouse before, and it was utterly peaceful falling asleep to crickets and a breeze each night. We also took advantage of the grill and kayaks! If you're looking for a weekend away from the city and a unique experience, this is definitely the place to stay. Kathryn and her husband were also so friendly and kind.

    Kelsey2018-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed in the treehouse for her 30th birthday getaway. The home and treehouse are just spectacular. So cozy and beautiful. We enjoyed a day swimming in the lake, kayaking and canoeing, and relaxing on the shore. We ended the evenings with a fire in the fire pit and a steam in the sauna to get warm before bed. The treehouse gets chilly at night, but more than enough blankets were provided and we were perfectly comfortable. Katheryn was a great host! Very kind and accommodating, went above and beyond to make us comfortable, but let us enjoy our time without intrusion. Can’t wait to go back!

  • The cabin was very clean and much warmer than I anticipated. Loved being right next to the lake!

  • Debbie was very prompt with her responses and we found the place and checked into the cabin smoothly. It was clean and had all the basic amenities that one could need for a night at a cabin in the woods. The view during Fall was just UHH-MAZING! Though one might have to drive a bit to find a decent trail in Chippewa (or parking for the car!), that's not something the host can anyway control. Would definitely recommend this place for a quiet getaway.

    Devleena2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little place near the lake. Reasonably well stocked w/items you may not bring, Kleenex, bath tissue, etc. Great place to relax.

  • Nice and relaxing pup friendly place.

  • Great cabin on a very nice lake. Good fishing. Access to canoe, kayaks and paddle boat. Very clean. Debbie is an outstanding hostess.

  • This is a fantastic cabin for a couple or small family that wants to get out of the city. It is a remote location, with a few other cabins nearby. Close enough to spend the day at Itasca state park and some time in Bemidji as well. The place was cozy and clean. The lake and paddling activities were great as well. The house is fully screened, but bring bug spray if you plan to spend any time outside!

Our three cozy lakeside cabins are located on Sand Lake of the Bowstring chain of lakes, deep in the Chippewa National Forest of northern Minnesota. Use of kayaks and canoes is included with cabin rental. Wifi available. Cabins are pet free and smoke free.
We have three 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabins available June through October. Each cabin is fully equipped with cookware, dishes, refrigerator, and microwave. Linens and kitchen towels are provided. Guests bring their own bath and beach towels. Internet is available in or near the lodge. There is an additional $25 charge per night for each additional guest if the group is larger than four people. Cabins #3 and #5 have maximum occupancy of six people. Cabin #4 has a four person maximum occupancy. (Additional charge payable to host at check-in).
  • Patricia and Ted were incredible hosts. We really felt like family for the four days we were there. They were attentive to the boys, finding fun things for them to do and even fishing with our youngest. We appreciated the use of the boat house equipment and row boat as well as all the fishing advice. We enjoyed the sunset trip on the pontoon. The cabin was as described. Beds had silky sheets and extra pillows. Kitchen was well equipped with enough dishes that we didn’t have to wash dishes constantly-such a blessing on vacation. Be aware there are stairs to the dock. Also, bring all produce as the closest market has limited choices.

    Laura2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place! My husband and I had such a relaxing time at Tam O'Shanter. With just 3 cabins, it is a remote and peaceful space. The cabin was extremely clean and had everything we needed. We loved our daily canoe trips, and also the sunset pontoon rides with Patty, Ted, their adorable dog Otis, and even some of their friends! Our privacy was always respected, and we also felt included and welcomed. This is a perfect destination to experience the beauty of northern Minnesota.

    Ali2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • I wish I could give 10 stars! Patty and Ted are amazing hosts and made my family of 4 feel like their family! The cabin was extremely clean and very charming. We loved using the kayaks and canoes, swimming near the dock, the sounds of loons, and especially our nightly pontoon rides with Patty and Ted to see amazing sunsets. It was the perfect trip to the northwoods and exceeded our expectations! We can't recommend Tam O'Shanter highly enough and are definitely coming back!

    Jayne2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Patricia and Ted were so wonderful to have as hosts! They made sure we had everything for a relaxing, fun weekend! Everything you want in a “Minnesota Nice” hospitality.

    Lex2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Tam O’Shanter and the hospitality was exceptional! We enjoyed swimming, canoeing, and watching the stars from the dock at night. It was a real treat to be invited on a pontoon ride with Patricia and her husband. We highly recommend these cabins, which were fully equipped with everything we needed during our stay. Just don’t forget hand towels and bath towels!

    Krista2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tan O'Shanter is wonderful! It is peaceful, quiet and perfectly located on a beautiful lake with amazing sunset views. Our cabin was cozy, the beds comfortable and we had everything we needed during our stay. We forgot our bath towels and were short on beach towels but our hosts were happy to provide what we needed. There are charcoal grills, plenty of outdoor tables and chairs as well as 2 fire pits and plenty of firewood available. The boat house is a fun place for gathering, playing board games or just enjoying the lake views. Just off the dock you will find canoes, kayaks, rafts, life jackets and everything you need to enjoy some time on the water. Patty is a warm and welcoming host and a pleasure to talk too. She took a genuine interest in our "stories" and shared muc h of her own story as well as those of local history and lore. The high point of our stay was when Patty, her husband Ted and Otis, their delightful canine companion invited us to join them on their boat for an evening, sunset excursion. It was the "icing on the cake" of our wonderful stay at Tam O'Shanter!

    John2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect Northern Minnesota getaway! The cabin was exceptionally clean and dish towels, soaps, cook wear, etc. we’re provided and came in handy! The lake was gorgeous and the weather for the end of July was comfortable. Although the cabins are not equipped with a/c, it’s really not needed in Northern MN. The days were plenty warm to swim comfortably and the nights were cool enough to enjoy s’mores at the bonfire. We especially appreciated the split wood available for us to use at no cost. Our family would definitely recommend this cabin again!

    Mandy2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful, peaceful little slice of Northern Minnesota. Peaceful views, comfortable cabins, and kind hosts! Cooking utensils are provided, nice hot water in the shower, and plenty of windows on the cabins. They are gracious enough to allow the use of canoes and kayaks, as well as a place to clean fish. Their west-facing property allows for a nice view of the sunset across the lake. We would definitely come back! For navigation purposes, the entry to the property is the very end of the gravel road.

Located in the north woods of Minnesota on beautiful Island Lake our home makes a great place for a family. There is direct access to the lake on this property to launch your boat. Guests can also tie up a boat at dockside. Take a leisure ride on your 4-wheeler or side by side on the area's well maintained trails. You can enjoy fishing on Island Lake and are a short distance from Upper Red Lake and Lake of the Woods.
This property is our home and we plan to retire here in the future. It is a beautiful home with one prior owner. We also enjoy traveling and visiting family and friends and will not be here all the time. We are both educators and wanted to give families an opportunity to enjoy Minnesota's north woods and the lake in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
Our home is located at lakeside and is in a quite area. You will have an elevated view of the lake from house. You can also access the lake for swimming on the property. During summer months that is lake access and dock for your boat.
  • This home has a beautiful view of the lake and is a very relaxing place to stay. The open living space has super comfy seating, a nice dining area, and a very well equipped kitchen. The master bedroom and bath were quite spacious. Jim was a very attentive host prior to, and during, our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and hope to stay here again on another visit.

  • Our group of 6 (3 couples) had a wonderful time at this lovely "up north" home!! We had everything we could have possibly wanted. The views of the lake were beautiful!! The beds were very comfortable. We felt at home the moment we walked in the front door. We wished we could have stayed longer, and hope we can come back again! Jim was a great host - very quick to respond to all of our questions.

Modern cabin set on the beautiful Moose Lake, known for its clear waters and excellent fishing. With property bordering the Chippewa National Forest, you can relax as you sip coffee from your screened-in porch or fish from the dock. The pretty outdoor space provides room for grilling and enjoying the clean air. When the sun goes down, go for a night swim or make memories (and s'mores!) around the campfire ring. Breathe in the scent of nature and listen to the birds and frogs play nearby.
For those who still like to be connected to the outside world, we have created a "smart cabin", complete with Wifi, a large T.V. with Roku (including Netflix and Hulu), Alexa, and even a bluetooth bathroom fan so you can listen to your favorite music while taking a shower. Inclement weather? Snuggle up on the couch and turn on the fireplace, make yourself coffee from the coffee bar, and play one of the family games that we have provided. Situated in the middle of the three resort towns of Bemidji, Blackduck, and Cass Lake, our cabin is just a short drive away to many area lakes, beaches, parks and trails. In the fall, hunt the adjacent forest. In the winter, ice-fishing is popular on Moose Lake. We will consider it a gift to host you and your loved ones and can't wait for you to make your own wonderful family memories. 24 ft Pontoon rental: $150/day or $600/week, 1 tank of gas included ***During June 1, 2019 – August 3, 2019, prefer guest stays of 7 nights and Saturday check-in, unless approved otherwise by host.***

  • Lovely space, very remote, beautiful area - and looks like it would be a sweet lake for summertime. We were there in January and there was certainly enough snow to cross country ski! The house is charming, warm, and has a great kitchen for cooking good meals. We enjoyed watching movies too.

    Maia2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nestled in the woods. Great space even in a winter storm!

    Julie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, awesome host, and beautiful location! Asked my girlfriend to marry me here! Stayed in the winter and it was fantastic! Would love to come back in the summer and swim and fish in the lake!

    Ethan2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a long weekend here and loved it! The house was very clean and comfortable, with all the details thought of- supplies you would normally have to bring to a cabin (tp, paper towels, baggies etc) coffee and tea at the ready, and a basket of s’mores fixings ready to cook!! It was too chilly for us to eat at the outside table, but the setup with the grill right there is awesome! It was quiet, which is what we were looking for. 😊

    Katy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

  • This was my first all around girls trip with my 14 year old daughter and her friend. I had the pleasure to book this wonderful resort. Shannon was very quick in responding and she even stayed up late meeting us at the door of the cabin since it was a long drive for us. She was very sweet and even willing to meet us on the other side since we did get lost lol. We where very happy with the cabin it was very clean and just perfect we stayed in a 3 bedroom two bathroom and It included a washer and dryer Shannon did give us a nice upgrade. In the morning we had decided to check out the water we where helped by shannons son and husband who are very helpful since we had no clue what we actually wanted to do if it was the paddle boat or the canoe. The scenery and environment is very beautiful there. You also have a lot of things to do here and it's very family friendly. It was definitely a much needed and an amazing trip for us we will never forget the memories of this place and the genotosrity of Shannon and her family. I do have to say this is a place we will definitely visit again and in the end we found out that we loved to kayak and be in the middle of the water it was very peaceful and I would recommend this if you need a much needed break either as a family trip an alone trip or a couples trip this is the best place to visit.

Everyone had a bed and we could all comfortably fit into the spaces in the house. One of the biggest pluses for my family was the large kitchen! We were all able to easily fit into the kitchen to cook. We all loved the cabin and it was a great price!

Very private cabin and plenty of space for our large family. When we arrived we found a very thoughtful “thank you” bag and we thought that was very sweet for going above and beyond. We are looking forward for a trip back!

  • My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms had everything we needed and more. This would be a great place to bring a family or group of friends. We loved that it was dog friendly and right on the water! We went in the fall, and the colors were gorgeous. Boats and water toys were available for rental, and the location was not too far from hiking and towns. Itasca State Park was only an hour away. 😊 We would definitely stay here again!

  • Definitely a great place to stay to get away from the city! I’ve been here two years in a row and this year with the added touch of the sauna, it was 10+. The hosts are very accommodating and we’re quick to respond when I had questions.

    Kristina2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was absolutely beautiful and comfortable for a group hangout and lake side experience. It is located right at the Sand Lake and is great for a summer and/or fall escape from the city life. We had a great time during the fall season where we got to see beautiful colors of the season in the Chippewa Forest region. During the night we were able to see glimpse of Northern lights from the lakeshore as the sky was cloudy at that time. The cabin was fully equipped with everything you'd want for a complete outing experience in the forest. Sauna is an added touch. I'd absolutely recommend this cabin for a great experience in the wilderness.

The cabin was clean and cozy, with lots of amenities. I would love to come back with friends and rent out both cabins 1 and 2 and enjoy the space even more. Thanks!

  • This is awesome little cabin. The perfect amount of ruffing it. A safe north woods small town getaway near an incredible fishery. The host had everything we needed plus some items we weren’t expecting, such as free fire wood, lawn chairs, and a welcome basket. They even had tv and wifi for a rainy day. They went over and above to make our trip a success. The other cabin was rented by another group and there was plenty of room for all of us, our boats, and our vehicles. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck in morning drinking coffee and sometimes talking to the neighbors. We would definitely stay here again.
