ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA “I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills,” so says Karen Blixen in her book Out Of Africa, a memoir. It is here that the story of Karen begins. When in 1931 a developer by the name Remy Martin bought the land owned by Karen Blixen, the Danish author, and converted it into residential lots, he had no idea that he had just initiated what in modern day would be one of Nairobi’s fastest growing suburbs. More than 80 years later, Karen, which was named in honour of Ms Blixen, is a popular suburb sprawling with gated communities, ranches belonging to some key individuals in the country and high-end shopping malls. For those of us who call it home, Nairobi’s muscular, cosmopolitan charms include a vibrant cultural life, fabulous places to eat and exciting nightlife. If you're just passing through, this melting pot of people and attractions has an unlikely national park (black rhinos and lions), an irresistible elephant orphanage, the ground zero for the Rothschild’s giraffe, Karen Blixen's former home and so much more. Please keep in mind that Nairobi is notoriously bad for traffic, especially at the moment while widespread road works are ongoing. I would advise you to try to avoid travelling at all peak rush hour times. Most of the suggestions I have made here are easy to get to from the Karen area to avoid all day traffic battles! I have only included my preferred places in this guide so keep in mind there are many more options out there for you to discover. NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK Set on the city’s southern outskirts, Nairobi National Park (at 117 sq km, it’s one of Africa’s smallest) has abundant wildlife which can, in places, be viewed against a backdrop of city skyscrapers and airliners coming in to land – it's the only national park on earth that borders a capital city. You will need your own car to drive around or you can organize a tour through a local company. Robert the taxi driver can arrange a car and driver to take you to the park. Early mornings and late afternoon are best for game viewing. Location: About 20 mins from the Brandy Bus to the main gate KWS Telephone: +254 20 2423423 Website: www.kws.go.ke DAPHNE SHELDRICK ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE Occupying a plot within Nairobi National Park, this non-profit trust was established in 1977, shortly after the death of David Sheldrick, who served as the anti-poaching warden of Tsavo National Park. Together with his wife Daphne, David pioneered techniques for raising orphaned black rhinos and elephants and reintroducing them back into the wild, and the trust retains close links with Tsavo for these and other projects. The centre is one of Nairobi's most popular attractions, and deservedly so. After entering at 11am, visitors are escorted to a small viewing area centred on a muddy watering hole. A few moments later, much like a sports team marching out onto the field, the animal handlers come in alongside a dozen or so baby elephants. For the first part of the viewing, the handlers bottle-feed the baby elephants – a heartwarming sight. Once the little guys have drunk their fill, they proceed to romp around like big babies. The elephants seem to take joy in misbehaving in front of their masters, so don’t be surprised if a few break rank and start rubbing up against your leg! The Trust is also home to a number of orphaned rhinos, many of which, like the baby elephants, mingle with wild herds in Nairobi National Park during the day. You can go on their website and adopt your own elephant for $50 which means you can go for a much more private viewing at 5.00pm – well worth it! Location: About 20 mins drive from the Brandy Bus Telephone: +254 20 2301396 Website: www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org THE GIRAFFE CENTER This center, which protects the highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, combines serious conservation with enjoyable activities. You can observe, hand-feed or even kiss one of the giraffes from a raised wooden structure, which is quite an experience. You may also spot warthogs snuffling about in the mud, and there’s an interesting self-guided forest walk through the adjacent Gogo River Bird Sanctuary. This is one of Kenya’s good-news conservation stories. In 1979 Jock Leslie-Melville (the Kenyan grandson of a Scottish earl) and his wife Betty began raising a baby giraffe in their Langata home. At the time, when their African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) was just getting off the ground, there were no more than 120 Rothschild’s giraffes (which differ from other giraffe subspecies in that there is no patterning below the knee) in the wild. Unlike the more common reticulated and Masai giraffes, the Rothschild’s giraffe had been pushed to the brink of extinction by severe habitat loss in Western Kenya. Today, the population numbers more than 300, and the center has successfully released these charismatic creatures into Lake Nakuru National Park (home to around 45 giraffes), Mwea National Reserve, Ruma National Park and Nasalot National Reserve. This museum is the farmhouse where author Karen Blixen lived between 1914 and 1931. She left after a series of personal tragedies, but the lovely colonial house has been preserved as a museum. The museum is set in expansive gardens, and is an interesting place to wander around. That said, the movie was actually shot at a nearby location, so don’t be surprised if things don’t look entirely right! Guides (non-mandatory, but useful) are included in the admission fee, but they do expect a tip. Loaction: About 5 mins drive (or 15 mins walk) from the Brandy Bus Telephone: +254 02 8002139 Website: www.museums.or.ke KAZURI BEADS AND POTTERY CENTER An interesting diversion in Karen, this craft centre was started up by an English expat in 1975 as a place where single mothers could learn a marketable skill and achieve self-sufficiency. From humble beginnings, the workforce has burgeoned to over 100. A free tour takes you into the various factory buildings, where you can observe the process from the moulding of raw clay to the glazing of the finished products. There's also a gift shop with fixed prices. Location: About 10 mins drive (or 20 mins walk) from the Brandy Bus Telephone: +254 20 2328905 Website: www.kazuri.com EATING (AND DRINKING!) AROUND KAREN TALISMAN (my favorite restaurant!) This iconic and classy cafe-bar-restaurant remains fashionable with the Karen in-crowd, and rivals any of Kenya’s top eateries for imaginative international food. The New York Times has proclaimed Talisman Nairobi’s best restaurant. With a charming interior of Middle Eastern tapestry and Kenyan craft and unrivaled candle-lit al fresco dining, who can blame them. The Talisman is much more than your typical restaurant, playing host to a series of regular exhibitions on African art and monthly foodie events. The continental menu stretches from Japan to Zanzibar, Limuru to Mombasa and amazing sushi. Start with the feta and coriander samosa’s doused in chili jam. Booking is essential. The bar is also a great place to have a cocktail or sample the best Bloody Mary in Nairobi. Be prepared to pay European prices! The bar is always busy on a Friday or Saturday night if you are looking for somewhere to have a drink! Location: About 10 mins drive from the Brandy Bus. Telephone: +254 705999997 Website: www.thetalismanrestaurant.com BOHO EATERY Nairobi has a new mainly vegan restaurant. "Mainly vegan" may sound like an odd description, but it works here: Boho Eatery's owners have swapped what would be a mostly meat menu with a mostly vegan one, leaving a couple of options for those carnivores unwilling to branch out. Label the cuisine what you will, it is definitely delicious. The elegant restaurant, located in a converted house, has an outdoor bar and patio seating area as well as a large garden. The perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine! There is also a photographic studio and luxury clothing shop on the property. Location: About 10 mins drive from the Brandy Bus. Telephone: +254 727 502416 Website: www.facebook.com/bohoeaterynairobi TIN ROOF CAFE This place has all the necessary ingredients to be a firm favorite – a quiet garden setting both locations, great coffee, the city's best salad bar and a commitment to healthy eating. My only complaint? It doesn't open for dinner. There are two locations and each are located in a fabulous shopping places, even more reason to visit! Location: There are 2 locations: The souk About 15 mins drive from the Brandy Bus and Langata Link about 5 mins drive from the bus Telephone: +254 706348215 Website: https://www.tinroof.cafe/ HARU JAPANESE AND SUSHI The place to go for the best authentic Japanese dishes. Offering seven different kinds of Japanese Sake (Japanese rice wine) and Asahi which is the most famous beer in Japan. Haru offers the best Sushi and Sashimi in town. It has a sushi bar, shady outdoor patio and a dining area. This is somewhere to go purely to fill your belly it is not geared towards a night out. They also do very efficient takeaway and delivery. Location: About 10 mins drive from the Brandy Bus. Telephone: +254 020 2437871 Website: https://www.facebook.com/HaruRestaurant/ J’S FRESH BAR AND KITCHEN J’s Fresh Bar pays homage to the British gastropub. Recently re-opening its doors in January 2019 on a rooftop in Karen, it has got local foodies talking excitedly over the beautifully executed smoked paprika scotch eggs, battered fish and chips and Szechuan-peppered squid with roasted garlic aioli. The atmosphere is laid back and modern. Sit inside or outside and let the barman work his magic, great place to grab a banging cocktail (an Austin Powers is a must have!). They also have music every Friday night to a packed bar if you are looking for a party! Check their Facebook page to see what’s going on (don’t confuse the Karen location with the Westlands one which is further away!). Location: About 10 mins drive from the Brandy Bus. Telephone: +254 718 607 197 Website: https://www.facebook.com/JsFreshBarandKitchen NYAMA CHOMA Looking for some local and budget friendly flavors? Drop into any of the numerous Nyama choma joints in Karen. Nyama choma literally means “roasted meat.” Most of the time goat is the default genre, but beef (ng’ombe) and chicken (kuku) are also quite common and can be very delicious too. Nyama Choma in Nairobi is usually eaten off a communal cutting board, as the main dish, with others dishes on the side. What do you eat with Nyama Choma? Some prefer just straight meat and salt. Others like a bit of kachumbari (combination of chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro, sometimes avocado) or pili pili (chili). For starch, ugali (cornmeal starch) or greasy chips (French fries) are common. My favourite local meal is Chapati (flat bread) with Skumawiki (fried kale and onions) and Githeri (usually a mix of corn, red kidney beans and peas). Local Places to eat nearby: The Grassy Knoll, Tamasha Joint and Karen shopping center car park LOOKING TO GO OUT, OUT?! Although Karen has a lot of bars and restaurants if you are looking for something more from Nairobi nightlife you will have to venture further into the city, but it is well worth the journey to get a taste of the urban scene in Nairobi. Places to check out events: PAWA 254 PAWA254 is Nairobi's unique social enterprise through which innovative professionals from diverse artistic fields exploit their creative genius to foster social change. Among the creatives who collaborate in this dynamic space are photographers, graphic artists, journalists, musicians and poets. Significantly, promising youths are invited, both to make their contribution in this informal powerhouse and to receive mentoring from the experts.PAWA254 promotes good governance in Kenya through the arts. PAWA254's founder is Boniface Mwangi,a photographer who documented Kenya's post-election violence of 2007/8 and managed to reach a large audience with his messages for peace. Location: About an hours drive from the Brandy Bus with normal traffic - events are usually in the evening which means getting there during peak traffic a boda boda is a good option. Telephone: +254 721 956552 To see whats on while you are in town check out their Facebook page. K1 KLUB HOUSE For a full on club night with more of a local flavor head to the western end of Westlands, the Klub House is another old favorite. The spacious bar has plenty of pool tables and excellent DJs spinning reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B until late. Watch for live bands on Saturday nights, Tuesday night is jazz, while Wednesday is Ladies' night and Thursday is Reggae. They have also just started a funky Sunday market (pictured below) selling all kinds of goodies with a relaxed brunch vibe. Location: About 40 mins drive from the Brandy Bus with normal traffic – it doesn’t get kicking here until around 10pm so getting there and back is pretty stress free. Telephone: +254 20 20 749870 J’s WESTLANDS A visit to J’s is like hanging out a friend’s back yard – of course a friend with a very large backyard, amazing food and drinks constantly on supply, and live music on demand. The restaurant, which might better be described as a “hangout spot” with a great kitchen, is highly popular with both trendy Kenyans and their expat counterparts. The vibe is open, communal, casual, and when it gets dark and the fairy lights are ablaze, quite magical. J’s has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. There is live music here every Thursday and it is packed to the rafters so book a table in advance. Definitely one of the most fun night out in Nairobi. Location: About 30 mins drive from the Brandy Bus with normal traffic. Telephone: +254 707 612585 To see whats on while you are in town check out their Facebook page. THE ALCHEMIST BAR The Alchemist Bar is Nairobi’s newest and sweetest spot. It is the hottest place in town right now bringing together, food trucks, drink, live music, Dj’s and art lovers. The energy is amazing and the crowd is just right. The also do regular movie screenings. Location: About 40 mins drive from the Brandy Bus with normal traffic. Telephone: +254 705 264883 To see whats on while you are in town check out their Facebook page. BREW BISTRO Kenyas first and only craft brewery also serves amazing food. Live music and DJs, always buzzing with the young professional crowd. Book a table outside. Location: Ngong Road – about 20 mins from the Brand Bus with normal traffic they have also recently opened up a second location in Westlands (rooftop bar pictured above) opposite Havana. • Fabulous place to stay! So unique!

  • Amazing, magical getaway in Karen at the Brandy Bus. The bus itself was secluded and surrounded by nature. It was the perfect location -- not too far from Nairobi and close to great restaurants in Karen. Such a unique and quaint space. It has everything you need including a kitchen and outdoor fireplace if you wanted to make food and eat outside. Can't wait to come back!

  • The Brandy Bus is pure magic. It has a playful spirit that is both enchanting and contagious. Whether lounging outside in the gorgeous, peaceful garden, cooking and sipping coffee or wine downstairs or taking a rest upstairs, we felt genuine relaxation and joy. We felt very welcome. Each person we met on the property was extremely kind and lovely. We loved the location, found a chameleon in the garden, and we were enchanted by the birds and interesting animal sounds. We were able to walk to the nearby Oloolua Forest for a nature hike and also to the Karen Blixen museum. We used the taxi service Karen suggested as well as Uber and found it very easy to get around. We came prepared for mosquitos and hardly noticed any. We could go on and on about how wonderful our stay was. If we are back in the area we would love to return. If you get the chance to stay at the Brandy Bus, you simply must!

  • Karen's place in Karen, Nairobi is indeed the best experimental stays I've experienced. The Brandy bus is unique in everyway. Thoughtful detailing in every corner. Loved it.

  • The Brandy Bus is a delightful place to say. Our family absolutely loved it and we will be back as soon as we can! It is located in Karen, near to plenty ofrestaurants so that food can be ordered and delievered right to your door. An extra nice surprise was the lovely fire lit by the guard so that we could sit out at night on the patio to eat our dinner by candle and firelight.

    Linda2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint, tranquil, beautiful, and serene. Best place to unwind, unplug and to truly relax. Beautiful ambiance both in and outside the bus. We hope you enjoy as my husband and I did.

This beautiful pool house is very well hidden in a lush garden in the the leafy suburb of Karen. Top destination for romantic getaways, even if just for the weekend. This magical place is full of surprises; Skylights at the rooftop, exotic flowers and colourful bougainvilleas in the garden, a large swimming pool with recycling water and a jacuzzi area perfect for relaxation. Although secluded, the place is perfectly situated right next to the Hub, one of the best Malls in Nairobi and close to many hip restaurants. Large swimming pool right in front of the cottage with pool lounge chairs. Spacious living area with an exquisite, wood-burning fireplace. A study desk to get your work done on the move. The dining area is located right next to the living area. Large master en-suite bedroom with fireplace and sun roof. For that extra magical feel. Outdoor lounge area next to the bedroom. Small well fitted kitchen. A bath tub, sauna and bathroom area with fireplace.
Windy ridge is one of the most calm and beautiful streets in Nairobi. Full of lush green Jacaranda trees and lovely homes. Its serene environment is unmatched.
  • Eleni's place is beautiful, with a great location in Karen. We loved the jungle atmosphere, as the house and pool are located in a garden with many trees. Communication was so easy and everyone was really helpful. We will definitely be back!

    Helene2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Super stylish place, perfect to relax for a couple of days. It feels very isolated and you have a view of trees from anywhere in the house. It was also very quiet and calm, all of this while being close to Nairobi and the top attractions by UBER, making it a super convenient place to stay. Supermarkets and restaurants can be found in the HUB which is a very short UBER ride from the house (about 3kms). The only bad points were that the BED was not very comfortable and internet connection was spotty during our stay.

    Roberto2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place!

    Charlotte2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend staying here. It is a great location in Karen. It is very easy to get to many of the must see places such as the giraffe center. The amenities are also great. I especially loved the fire places.

    Haley2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really relaxing place to stay, which was exactly what we needed for a couple of nights. The beds were very comfortable and the mosquito nets were appreciated. There are two showers and toilets and the overall space is very roomy. That said, the amenities are a bit vintage, but all in good working order. We didn’t take advantage of all the features, such as the steam room, but we enjoyed the amazing lap pool and the peace and quiet and the lush greenery around the pool. The breakfast supplies came in very handy. We had planned to order in dinner but had trouble using our overseas credit card with the food delivery services. It is a very short and inexpensive Uber to the Karen Hub, where there is a large grocery store and lots of food options. James and Alice were very helpful and friendly. Communication is great with the What’s App group. We did experience a power outage, but we actually enjoyed being disconnected and had a swim. When the power was on, the Wifi worked well. As there were three of us, our daughter slept in the single bed, which is in the front room off the pool with no curtains, but the mosquito netting gave a bit of privacy.

    Lesley2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay at the pool house, it was like our own little sanctuary, and the perfect end to a busy few weeks of travel. The pool is huge, the gardens are stunning, and the bedroom is to die for. Communication and direction was extremely thorough, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you for having us.

Stay in a fully furnished tree house on the Ngong House 10acres estate in the Karen/Langata area, at walking distance from the Giraffe Centre. Only 10 minutes away from the elephant orphanage and Nairobi National Park. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is only a good half an hour away. Wilson airport at 10 to 15 min.All easily accessible with UBER. Enjoy healthy breakfasts and lunches, at our Boho Eatery on site. Sorry not open on Monday’s. One can walk to nearby News Cafe for diner.
At Ngong House there are 4 units listed on Airbnb. 3 tree houses and a cottage in the same garden.
Ngong House used to be a small, exclusive lodge up to 2016. Now all the tree houses are rented out on a yearly basis. When we opened Boho Eatery in Mai 2017, I decided to rent one tree house through Airbnb. Ngong House is situated in Karen, a residential area of Nairobi. The property used to be part of the 6,000acres farm of Karen Blixen (Karen Blixen museum). One can walk from Ngong House to the Giraffe sanctuary and 10 minutes away by car is the Elephant orphanage. Our web site is down, but you can still find lots of pictures online at NGONGHOUSE/IMAGES. Uber is very active in our area.

    Rose2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a very unique stay, don't look any farther. This tree house is amazing and so much better than anything I had imagined. This was a surprise for my husband and he was so excited. Seriously, how many can say that spent the night in a function tree house? LOL. Check in was very simple, it was clean and included everything that we needed for a comfortable stay and it's so much larger than expected. Thankfully, we didn't have a lot of bugs in the house. I would suggest bringing earplugs as the birds and/or wildlife can be loud. The Boho Eatery was also very convenient for a drink and/or delicious healthy meal. They do close early, so you have to plan accordingly. We really enjoyed our stay and will absolutely consider staying here again should we come back to Nairobi

    Karen Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya

The River Cottage is situated right next door to Hemingways Hotel; the lush surroundings, the beautiful river, the tall trees, fire place, outdoor lounge area and cosy decor contrast the noisy hustle and bustle of Nairobi. You’ll love The River Cottage' s unique design, combined with a sense of adventure.
The River Cottage is unique due to its setting on the river with a quaint bridge to cross in order to access it. It is based in central Karen giving you easy access to many restaurants, shops and tourist destinations. Karen shopping, the Hub Mall are just a short drive away. The owner (Jonny) lives next door and can be contacted for additional experiences such as private classes in his yoga studio, guided walks with a pic nic through the local forest that has a substantial waterfall and even to do the grocery shop and do the cooking. Each of these experiences are priced at an additional USD 50. Please note The River Cottage only accommodates two people, so if you want to stay in The River House which sleeps up to eight people or four, which is less, is The River House 1. Please click on the following links www.airbnb.com/rooms/13523472 and www.airbnb.com/rooms/19422504
We are next door to Hemingways Hotel so you can walk to dinner or have a cocktail at sunset. There are many nature walks nearby from the field just on your doorstep which is great for a pic nic or for the more adventurous go see the impressive waterfall in the Ololua Forest. Grocery shopping can be done at the Hub Mall or my preference at the smaller less crowded Karen Provision Stores. My favorite local restaurant is the Talisman.
  • Relaxing. Soothing & Breath taking! These words define Johnny's place. Surrounded by greenary & variety of birds, Johnny's place - The river cottage is a perfect place to stay in Karen, Nairobi. • Fantastic little hideaway in Karen. You can hardly believe you are in the city. Peaceful setting, quirky house, very comfortable, with great hospitality.

    Rosie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathan was an amazing host! He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and open his home to us. The River Cottage is one of the fewer places we've been where the host went out of their way to stock up the fridge with grocery basics that went a long way to make us feel welcome and at home. The cottage itself is located in a serene environment with lots of things to do within walking distance of the premises. The animals (Ziggy and crew) were super friendly and kept us company throughout our stay! We're definitely looking forward to our next stay. It was the perfect in-the-city but out of town experience!

  • This cottage is perfect if you're looking for a serene getaway without having to leave Nairobi. The cottage rests on a lush, green, private fenced property not far from the Nairobi National Park. The only sounds you hear are those of nature; no busy roads nearby. We saw and heard a few animals in the vicinity, which only enriched our experience. There were two friendly dogs that added a feeling of security. The house itself was very comfortable and well furnished. The decor and lighting was pleasant. The wifi didn't work, but we didn't really need net connectivity. The pantry was well stocked, kitchen well-equipped, the complimentary breakfast items were much appreciated. Loved our stay here and hope to return soon

Shalom is a restful one bedrooms apartment that is just 10minutes away from the Nairobi National Park.
It's a cosy apartment with a good view and a private balcony There is access to a smart TV with Netflix and a few other live stream channels
There are several very nice hotels around with good food and pools in some all 10 to 15 minutes away Some of the hotels include Masaai lodge Osoita Olaro Old kings Sakinas
  • Totally serene and private with little deco touches that gives the space a whole other feel than all other houses I've been to.. I would definitely recommend it if you would want to relax and get way from the daily.

    Ivy2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The place is exactly as advertised. The art and thoughtful touches made all the difference. The internet was fast and reliable. The screen was big enough. The treats were thoughtful and amazing. The host was responsive and very helpful. I will definitely be staying here again.

  • The place is lovely and in a quiet environment. Eko and Nadia were very swift with communication and went above and beyond to ensure a nice stay. I would highly recommend staying at Shalom apartment!

    Maureen2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • A great little peaceful retreat, with lots of plants that adds greenery and a good vibe. House looks exactly like the photos and it's nice that it's a one bedroom apartment (so evey room is separate) instead of being all together like a studio. Eko is super helpful with answering any questions, directing you where to get stuff nearby, referring you to bodas and helping you settle in! It's a bit far from the main shops in Rongai, so if staying for longer would recommend bringing what you need with you, but overall a great peaceful little escape from Nairobi bustle!

    Gail2020-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mwai and his wife Ann are amazing hosts. They consider their guests their sons and daughters and treat them (and feed them!) as such. Wanted something different than a normal place so opted for their farm outside of Nairobi and it was fantastic. Very sweet couple who love to chat. Cool little farm I got a tour of. Great meals prepared by Ann with fruit/veggies from their farm. Some good local activity recommendations. Held my bags for a few days while I went to the coast. Overall, amazing place. Their dogs bark a bit at night if you are a light sleeper but it didn't bother me. And it's about a 40 min motorbike ride from the CBD but that only costs like $4.

    Nick2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful farm, in all senses. Mwai and Ann have a real gift for making people feel welcome, comfortable and included. Clean, light, spacious, high-ceilinged room, a good space for reading and writing. Tasty, fresh food always available. Surprised to enjoy my first experiences of planting, milking, and of hoping for more rain! Will long remember exploring this friendly neighbourhood, especially the hike along Ngong Hills and back home through Oloolua Forest. Thank you for sharing your home, and thanks to the whole Kepro Farm team for such an enjoyable stay! (Note: tarmac roads and fibre internet seem to be on their way to this area. Until then, wifi internet avg ~800kB/s, max ~1.8MB/s, 1B=8 bytes; would suggest fair use of ~200MB/day, and simple enough to use your own mobile data for more at ~100KSH/GB.)

    Bas2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • My second stay with Mwai and Ann was a great experience once again this year. If you want to meet good people, stay in a safe, clean home, eat home cooking, and have what I call an authentic "experience" instead of a "hotel room", then Kepro Farm is a wonderful place to be. I hope to return again next year.

    Gail2019-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Small farm off the beaten path. Much to see on the farm, dogs, cows, chickens, and a lot of different plants. Great hospitality and good meals. Breakfast is free and lunch or dinner were only $4 each or 400ksh

    Kevin2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you, Ann and Mwai, for a lovely stay. Your farm truly is a home away from home! Your hospitality, kindness and warmth will linger for quite some time, and I know I will be back sooner rather than later. Kepro Farm has gotten under my skin. PS: Thank you for teaching to make chapattis :)

    Miriam2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mwai and Ann are excellent hosts and went to great lengths to make my first visit to Africa very enjoyable. From arranging local excursions, to serving delicious food that is straight from their farm to table, to providing an incredible value, they exceeded every expectation. Not only that, but they are both engaging people who delight in sharing their culture and learning about others. I would highly recommend a stay at Kepro Farms as a base to explore Nairobi and the surrounding area.

    Bill2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Mwai and Ann quickly became a second family - they are warm, generous and welcoming. Their farm was a perfect quiet and friendly place to return to at the end of a day adventuring, and they went out of their way to help me arrange transport, go with me on walks and help me with ideas of local attractions to visit during my free time. Kepro farm is a beautiful place to visit, shared dinners are delicious and Mwai and Ann are the best hosts I could have hoped for. The location is outside of the city, close to many outdoor attractions and also in an interesting area with a small local market just outside the drive. If you’re looking to get out of the city and hoping to meet some truly wonderful people, this is the place to come. I am already planning to return.

Limmo also checked up on me to make sure that I was ok and whether I needed anything else. The apartment is located not far from the convenient Junction Mall for shopping, Cafes and ATMs. If you are a Business traveler, A sole traveler or a couple, I would recommend Limmo's place.

  • Every time I come to Nairobi I like to stay at Limmo’s place because it’s got the perfect mix of everything - value, style, cleanliness and convenience. The hosts, Limmo and Olav, are also very hospitable. I recommend it!

  • The photos don’t do justice to this place! Limmo’s place is more than stylish. It is homely. You will love the natural lighting from the large bedroom windows. Hint: Keep the curtains opened around 6pm for a majestic view of the sunset :). The kitchen is quite spacious (you won’t get such space from an average studio in Nairobi) and well-stocked. The wi-fi is bullet-fast! Then there is Olav, the most amazing co-host. He welcomed and gave me a quick run- through of how everything works. God bless you Olav. The place is safe and close to Junction mall (actually a walking distance). Yes there is a market and Bus stage right outside but you barely notice the noise. From the kitchen to the bedroom, living room, and bathroom, this place is well balanced. You also have ample closet space. Definitely a thumbs up from me. Cheers!

Amba is a cozy apartment surrounded by nature. Wake up to the sound of the river flowing or watch the sun set over the Ng'ong hills from the balcony or listen to the birds chirp from the bed room. The apartment is ideal for someone looking to get away from the hustle of the city. We are 11km from Nairobi National Park, 3.5km from David Sheldrick Trust Rhino & Elephant Sanctuary, 12km from Karen Blixen Museum, 15km from Wilson airport and 28km from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Karibu
Amba is an apartment set on the 4th floor. We live in the house but when booked we leave the entire house to the guests. The house is a two bedroom house but our daughter's room isn't available for occupancy. We are right next to the river and can see the Ng'ong hills from the balcony. I am a plant mum so the apartment has a good number of plants. Birds love to fly in and out of the house

This is a very secure home with good security and own compound. Good and constant supply of water and electricity. Very quite and great place to stay. The neighborhood is great with all the amenities; transport, hospitals, supermarkets close by.
The space can accommodate either one person (travelling solo) or a couple/two friends (travelling together). If two friends require separate beds, there is an alternative arrangement for that. Laundry and a thorough cleaning of the house are done once a week. Not only is this place great to stay, it's also a place you can work from in our office.
    Safe, clean and quite.

Set in a quiet suburb of the city with a large balcony with stunning views looking out over an array of different trees and a stream; there is always lots of interesting birdlife happening. This apartment offers the best of all worlds. Extremely clean and finished to a high end standard you can be assured of an excellent stay here. Close enough to provide quick access to the city and all its attractions. The gym and pool are also set beside the beautiful green surroundings. Please see reviews.
Large balcony off a comfortable living room with large fish tank and mood lighting - choose your colours! Massage chair. Comfortable bath to relax and unwind after a busy day exploring the city or to soak away the dust from your safari experience! Shower over bath if you prefer that option. Hot water always available. Wake up to the sound of birdsong and fall asleep to the sound of crickets. Cable TV, DVD and really good Wireless Internet Access. Feel free to use the kitchen and put your things in the fridge. There is a cupboard you can use for your own things. NB the price is for one double room, if you wish to book more than one room, please let me know.
Quiet suburban neighbourhood, quite nice for walking around. Five minute walk from the busier Gitanga Rd - a hub of activity, stalls and matatu stops. Further down Gitanga road is Valley Arcade, featuring shops, spas and restaurants. 5 minutes drive will take you to Junction Shopping Mall where there is an excellent cinema and a huge array of shops and restaurants etc. The Compound itself is extremely secure, high walled with a very efficient security staff. If you want to see the real Kenya there is a local market nearby in Kawangware. It is not a tourist market though so if you are looking for souvenirs we can direct you to the nearest Maasai Market, which is held in different venues each day across the city.

Fahari Lavish is a beautifully appointed one bedroom hideout in a modern baronial apartment with exquisite views of Ongata Rongai’s famed green suburbs, Ngong Hills and the leafy environs of Lower Matasia and Magenche Suburbs. It is perfect for single or couple guests. Its picturesque balcony, where guests can have good time over evening beer, get engrossed in light banter, or succumb to the lonely world of book chapters, offers some of the best views of Rongai’s invariant equatorial sunsets.
The apartment has fast speed internet and Smart TV for guests. There’s a laundry area for guests who’d want to do personal cleaning. The balcony has great views of Rongai for guests as they enjoy drinks, food or just banter.
Fahari Lavish is located 250 metres off the main tarmac Magadi Road on the Magenche-SunnySide stage. Our Guests can step out for lunches at the several nyama choma zones nearby, or drive uphill to the popular Asyana Gardens just five minutes away.

  • If you are looking for a cool, green and safe harbor from life’s storms, you will find it at Beatrice’s house. It is so clean and the meals amazing.

    Kijala2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beatrice is a very generous host who made sure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Apart from the warm hospitality, I also liked that the house is in a dense forest and it is one of the few places in Nairobi where you can enjoy fresh air and company of monkeys who regularly come round to eat fruits from the trees. I highly recommend staying at Beatrice's lovely home!

    Amur-Rai2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, lovely host, great value for money. I recommend Beatrice for your next trip to Nairobi/Karen!

    Jason2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Beatrices place for about three weeks while doing an internship in Karen. It's a nice location, not too far from town and within a little forest where you can spot monkeys regularly. The room is in a house next to the main house, was very clean and with an own bathroom. Beatrice is an outstanding host, always trying to help when there are any issues. Furthermore she can help you out with some useful tips on Nairobi and also the National Parks. What was as unexpected for me was the good "service" provided at this place. The room got cleaned every day, I was able to get breakfast and dinner if I wanted and I could even get my clothes washed for a fair price. All in all this place really enriched my stay in Nairobi. It felt like a home to me all the time and Beatrice and her family welcomed me and were always eager to help or just to have a chat.. I would definitely recommend this place and will go there again when I'm in Nairobi the next time.

  • Beatrice was an extremely pleasant and very maternal host with. I really felt like home... I had an excellent stay in his beautiful peaceful home surrounded by monkeys. She was a good listener and gave me good advice on Kenyan life. And I really want to thank Beatrice for taking the time every morning, waking up at 6 to make my breakfast. 🙏🏾I highly recommend his accommodation. And I know I'll come back to see her during my stay in Kenya.

    Sandrine2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • I say a big thank you to Beatrice for making my stay a memorable one for all the right reasons. Was provided information on the best ways of getting around, tips on security and always there was caring. Must make mention of the tree forest area in front of the home which became my outdoor room with the monkeys frequently eating the fruits of the trees above, a beautiful space.

    Val2019-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Really good time with Beatrice and her family. They are simple and welcoming! You ask her anything and she will have an answer or a reasonable solution for that .Perfect place to stay in Karen. • DANISH I highly recommend the house in Karen. It is set in a green, sheltered and peaceful garden in the middle of the most idyllic area of the Nairobi suburb, Karen. Here there is plenty of opportunity for relaxation and the host is extremely friendly and welcoming, so just ask if there are any wishes or questions. Although the house is secluded and peaceful, there is not much to do with sightseeing, restaurants or shopping. And several of them are within walking distance, which is recommended because the area is peaceful and there is street lighting. The Giraffe Center, News Post and Bush Gardens (restaurants), Karen Provision Stores (supermarket) and Kings Gardens (fruit / veg) are all less than 25 minutes on foot. ENGLISH I highly recommend the house in Karen. It is situated in a green and peaceful garden in the most idyllic area of Karen, a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. Here you have plenty of possibilities for relaxing, and the host is extremely kind and welcoming. Even though the house is in a tranquil, peaceful garden at the end of a private road you don't have to go sightseeing, visiting restaurants or grocery shopping. And for most of it you can walk because the neighborhood is very peaceful and the streets are lit. Giraffe Center and Giraffe Manor, also News Post and Bush Gardens (restaurants), also Karen Provision Stores (supermarket) and Kings Gardens (fruits / vegetables) are located within 25 minutes on foot.
