Don't feel like cooking? Head over to the Osprey's Nest Public House, an intimate year round pub, at 39 John Rieser Drive. A 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk.
  • This was my fourth time staying!! It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s scenic views and beautiful fire place, with ample wood to burn is why I keep coming back. Bill is a lovely host to deal with. He is quick at responding to any questions. I highly recommend anyone to book his beautiful space for a nice get away. You won’t be disappointed. Hoping to stay for an extra night my next stay.

  • Clean, convenient and cozy! Beautiful view of the river and walking distance to the new little pub in the area. As close as it is to the main road, it’s very quiet and private. We had the fireplace going each night. Close to all the favourites! Rissers Beach, Crescent Beach, Cherry Hill Beach. Great central spot to see the South Shore.

  • Great getaway place, wood fireplace was very relaxing and located right on the water.

    Alexander2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Villa was a great place to stay in a quite area down the south shore. It was great to have access to a fireplace and open living space to enjoy it in.

  • Great space, great location.

    Pam2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect location, and a relaxed and friendly place to stay. Everything you need is on the doorstep, and yet you feel like you can really disconnect from the busyness of everyday life.

    Andrea2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Bill's place is perfect for a vacation and exploring this part of Nova Scotia. The fireplace keeps you warm when the weather is bad and there is a ton of toys and games for the kids. The communication with Bill is smooth and fast. If we ever come back to this part of Nova Scotia, we will check if Bill's place is available.

    Christian2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location with unique combo of convenience to attractions and necessary items (with the general store being across the street), and feeling out on your own. Waking up next to Petite Rivière and hearing the birds chirping set the tone for vacation. Bill has thought of everything- from a canoe and pdfs to a lobster accessory kit.

  • Kris and Anna were fabulous, warm and engaging hosts that truely put their hearts into making our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Their unique custom home on the top of a high hill gave stunning views of the coastline from our ground floor room as well as from the dining and living room. Our room was spacious and clean with a large ensuite, bar fridge stocked with pop and water, wifi and cable and direct outside access. We lingered over a wide choice of breakfast items, good coffee, animated conversation and enjoyed some lovely guitar playing by Kris. As cyclists we particularly enjoyed the proximity to some of our favorite coastal roads and beaches and Lahave bakery making a great weekend getaway from Halifax. We'll be back.

  • Top-notch 5-star gorgeous place. Amazing hosts, unbelievable spectacular views. Well worth looking into. They are super hosts.

    Toni2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Kris are encredibly warm and kind people, they provide a very delicious breakfast every morning....their place is the cleanest I have seen and very stylish with a lot of warm touches. They both are fun to talk to and are helpful with any questions you might have. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

  • 11/10. Fantastic. If it’s open, stop comparing options and book it! They are wonderful, warm and the house is warm, unique beautiful and has a stunning view. Delicious breakfast and treats as well!

    J2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Kris are absolutely exceptional hosts. They met us at the door with a smile, and greeted us like old friends. The house is stunning (photos cant do it justice), really such a unique piece of art. I'll admit, after our gps took us down a tree lined back road (our fault not checking the route) in the dark I was a little bit nervous. Well any "spookiness" immediately disappeared on arrival. We spent time chatting with Anna and Kris over tea in the evening, and again in the morning with breakfast. Truly the most welcoming AirBnB I have stayed in! If we're ever in the area again will definitely return!

    Ashley2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Kris and Anna's beautiful home in Petite Riviere, on the South Shore. Their home and property is surely a place to appreciate and return to! Ana cooked us a delicious breakfast the next morning and Kris maintained the generator to ensure a comfortable stay, after the hurricane. We enjoyed Ana's enthusiasm for promoting Nova Scotia as a place to live!!They take great pride in their fantastic home and inevitably enjoy sharing it with others! We would love to come back!!

    Steve2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks to Anna and Kris for hosting us on one of our pit stops around the Maritimes! Their home is incredibly stunning. The views are fantastic. It was perfect for the quiet and low key night we were hoping for. We felt like old friends catching up around the breakfast table with Anna’s wonderful cooking and Kris playing guitar. Highly recommended!!

    Nancy2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing. Incredible. It is out a bit but so worth it. The calm and peacefulness of the surroundings is incredible. And their home...beyond anything you can expect. They are absolutely Super Hosts plus. You will enjoy .....our only suggestion would be to make sure you stay at the least 2-3 days. One day just not enough.

  • Amazing getaway. From the warmth of the timberframe to the record collection, you won't regret booking Paula and Peter's place. Falling asleep to the crackle of the woodstove and the song of the creek flowing by was just what we needed for a couple of nights. We will be back!

This year-round home is in one of Nova Scotia's most beautiful areas, the South Shore. Known for its abundant beaches, restaurants, shopping and music there is something for everyone!
Heron's Rest is a quaint tiny home nestled in the woods on just over an acre beside one of the largest set of rapids on the Petite River. Located just 1.5 hours from Halifax, this quiet and private rental is just off the main road giving quick access to the wide range of local interest and activities. It's the perfect location for a romantic getaway for two or a personal retreat. The house is fully equipped with a wood -burning fireplace (wood is included), fridge, stove, dishwasher and laundry facilities. It will sleep 2 in the main bedroom queen-sized bed. The large deck which overlooks the river is accessed off the kitchen and includes a BBQ and outdoor dining facilities. Guests can enjoy a quiet evening on the deck listening to the river and watching the stars or build a bonfire in the riverside fire pit. This is a wonderful community close to local beaches, steeped with history and full of charm. Petite Riviere is just a few minutes away and has a general store (complete with liquor store). Have one of their wonderful cups of coffee and enjoy a few minutes on their deck sharing a "yarn" with the locals. Please note that there is no public transit here.
This is truly a Nova Scotia neighbourhood combining locals who have lived here for over 8 generations and those "Come from aways" (CFA's) who have chosen Nova Scotia as their home. It is full of art, music, nature and wonderful people.
  • If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax, look no further, this is the spot. Gorgeous river setting that you can see and hear from the cottage. Be sure to take a walk down the path to the river and out onto the rock path by the water. This is the best view of the rapids! Everything that you need is here. We brought our meals and cooked there. Then you dine at a beautiful handcrafted table overlooking the river. There was plenty of firewood for the wood stove. Such a cozy spot. Definitely highly recommend!

  • The most relaxing cabin ever!

    Linda2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I have now stayed in Heron's Rest about half a dozen times, in winter, spring and early summer. We've found no better secluded spot within 90 minutes of Halifax. We appreciate and enjoy the closeness of the rapids-rattling river, the cozy kitchen, the wood stove, and the proximity to Risser's Beach, Crescent Beach, Broad Cove, LaHave, and other locations. You won't regret booking Heron's Rest.

  • A relaxing getaway in a beautiful location!

    Jocelyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sherry’s little cabin on the river is an amazing retreat. The cabin has everything you need and more for a comfortable stay away from the busy city life. The property is absolutely beautiful and private. We would love to return in the summer months to take advantage of the river! Thanks again!

    Lauren2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great space. The pictures do not do it justice. This is definitely a two person location but with that said there is lots of room for two. It is the very definition of quaint in the best way possible. We had two great winter days enjoying the river sounds and the enchanting fire in the wood stove. Would definitely recommend. Would be great in any season.

  • Great place! We really enjoyed it and had great weather and a lovely time exploring the amazing beaches so close.

  • Our family had an amazing time at the cottage and were really taken with the beauty of the LaHave islands. The location offered a secluded place to enjoy the local beaches and coast while still being close to some day trips. Lunenberg is about 30 mins away and Peggy's Cove (if you're ambitious is 1.5 hours). The local shops and bakery in LaHave are also worth a visit! The cottage itself was really charming and comfortable. Thank you Faith-Anne!

She was very quick in responding to all our queries and concerns regarding the access, which turned out to be an easy thing to manage (tide schedule). Nicely located, beautiful inside design and open space, quiet and peaceful setting... what more can we ask. Looking forward to another stay.

  • Such a beautiful spot, the cottage was super cozy. Monika and Karl were wonderful hosts, made us feel very welcome.

  • We loved our stay at Monika and Karl’s tiny house. It was charming, cozy, and exactly what we were looking for.

    Shawn2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • An inward and outward adventure! Private enough for quiet contemplation, yet so close to wonderful beaches, fishing villages, the car ferry and the fabulous local bakery. It's a small, private, very special cottage -- and the loft sleeping and wood-burning stove may not be tops with the marriott/hilton crowd (of which I used to be), but to me these just added to the wonderful experience and a chance to 'get away'. Cannot recommend the place, the location, and the hosts enough.

    Mark2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you like a tiny house visit Monika and Karl. Their house and area is real nature

  • 5 stars all around! Monika and Karl are so welcoming when you arrive and again when you leave. The tiny house is just down the path set at the back of the property. It’s very private and close enough to Monika and Karl’s place in case you need anything. I was pleasantly surprised to see a outdoor fire pit with a cute table and chairs out by the tiny house! It was just what I needed after being out all day sightseeing. The tiny house has everything you need, it’s very clean and it’s modern. I have a peaceful stay here! You can sleep up in the loft if you’re two people or on the day bed if you’re alone.

  • Our stay was perfect. We started our trip around Nova Scotia here and it immediately connected us to the area. We enjoyed multiple great meals downstairs and had a great time exploring the surrounding coast. Desiree and Stefan were communicative and lovely to interact with. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Desiree’s and Stefan‘s place was great! We spent one week with our 2-yr old son at the apartment. There is plenty of room for kids to play and they even provided toys in the apartment. Several gorgeous beaches are just a few mins by car or bike. Stefan and Desiree were great hosts and always responded quickly. Their cafe/lunch place below the apartment offers great pastry, lunch and bread! We are looking forward to come back soon!!

Rustic, secluded waterfront family cabin overlooking the waters of Dublin Bay, behind 2 km-long Crescent Beach. Two bedrooms, modern amenities, canoe available, wifi.
Private, waterfront, small rock beach. Launch your canoe or kayak from the front yard, to explore the islands, or Cape Lahave. Good bicycling in the area.
Close to several fine beaches (Crescent, Rissers, Cherry Hill), Lahave Bakery and Lahave Ferry, a winery, music, farmer's markets, and Petite Riviere Winery. Short driving distances to Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Liverpool and Bridgewater. General stores nearby; galleries, eateries in the neighbourhood. Good biking, kayaking, canoeing, swimming.
  • The view from this place was absolutely breathtaking! The cottage was even better than the pics can portray. It is private and secluded, yet within a short drive of many local gems of things to do, places to eat, and the beach. We enjoyed a fire in the evenings, either outside or by the wood oven stove each night. The night sky and listening to the ocean waves is magical. If you are looking for something a little rustic -- to reconnect with nature and the ones you are travelling with, this place is wonderful! Also, the host -- Karen -- is amazing! She had sweet welcoming touches awaiting my husband's and I's arrival and had helpful tips on local places to eat and see. She is very friendly, easy to talk to, and responds quickly to questions and messages. Highly recommend!

    Tamara2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very cute and the view is amazing. You only have to walk 5-7 minutes to get to the beach (which is never crowded!), and there is a pizza and ice cream shop at two minutes. You really feel alone in the world surrounded by all this beauty. Last thing, the bed and pillows couldn't be more confortable. I definitely recommend!

Enjoy your own cozy cottage in our secluded cove on the ocean. Just a few minutes walk from Crescent Beach, which boasts 3 kilometers of white sand and endless days of ocean fun. Launch your kayaks from the front lawn, or borrow ours. Take in the amazing view and sunsets from the large new deck. Enjoy this newly renovated, tastefully decorated cottage which has air conditioning and heat. Directly on the ocean, you will be so pleased with this ideal location!
This little cottage was once the home of a well known fisherman and boat builder. It is currently decorated with a mixture of antiques and modern furniture. With air conditioning for the hot summer days, and a heating unit for the chilly nights of fall, this cottage is perfect for vacations from May to October. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, cutlery, cooking essentials, microwave, coffee maker, blender. All bedding, towels, linens are included. We also include beach chairs, beach towels, hair dryer, fans and a propane BBQ for your enjoyment. There is a TV with a DVD player and an assortment of videos for all the family. We have four kayaks, and life jackets that can be borrowed, free of charge. Just let us know, and we can make them available for you.
This cottage is located on the Lahave Islands - a charming traditional fishing community. There are many amazing sites to visit nearby - the LaHave Bakery, the Petite Winery, Rissers Beach and Campground, Crescent Beach, Green Bay and many shops and points of interest including a great Pizza Joint just a few minutes away!! There are two corner stores nearby and one includes a liquor store. The main grocery store is in the town of Bridegewater, just 25 minutes away. There is also a ferry which can take you to nearby historic Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will find many fantastic restaurants and shopping venues.
  • Michelle’s cottage was just like the photos- simple and charming and spacious. We loved borrowing the kayaks and paddling around the whole island and coming back to a hot shower and relaxing on the deck in the sun overlooking the quiet cove, with blue herons fishing on the rocks close by. The furniture is very comfy and the kitchen is super roomy. It felt like we had known the place forever, like a family cottage. The history of the place is interesting and you can imagine what it used to be like with its wide floorboards and wooden vaulted ceiling. It was very clean, well stocked and Michelle had thought of everything a guest might need, including bug spray, which we forgot to bring (not that we needed it much!). The area of LaHave to Petite Rivière Bridge and beyond offers tonnes of charm, beaches, cafes (our favourite was Ploughman’s), art galleries and really interesting and friendly people, some locals and some who visited from away and never left. We could easily see why. Enjoy your stay, we sure did!

    Meghan2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage was beautifully situated on the ocean. Sunsets and evening paddles were very special. The place was clean and very accurately represented. We had everything we needed to make us feel at home. I hope we can return again next year.

  • The location is superb, especially for kayakers. The cottage is really clean and nicely furnished. Michelle was a great host: responded very quickly and came to greet and welcome us when we arrived. Highly recommended.

  • Fox Cottage is a sea lovers dream, gorgeous sunsets and a short 7 minute walk to Crescent Beach. The cottage itself is clean, bright and comfortable. Perfect for our family of 4. Michelle is a great host and knowledgeable of the area. We’ll definitely come back again.

  • Beautiful setting and view. Convenient location to explore the South Shore. Daun was quick to respond and very helpful. We had booked our trip well in advance and just before we arrived TS Dorian hit. The area was without power for 3 days but Daun still had the apartment ready for us. I would book again. Thanks Daun!

    Carolyn2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Daun's place is perfectly located close to many great attractions on the south shore, including LaHave, Crescent Beach, and Rissers. Lunenberg and Mahone bay are only a short trip away (by ferry or drive). Her home is cozy yet spacious, slightly rustic and exceptionally clean. Everything you would need for your stay is provided, including a fully equipped kitchen. Beds are a bit firmer than I prefer; however, she has provided quality linens and pillows which made our sleep comfortable. There are fantastic views from her place, and waterfront access. Host is warm and hospitable, and communication was quick and easy. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • Great location; the views from kitchen and living room are mesmerizing. A tiny walking beach just behind the house and many swimming and wading beaches nearby. Close to restaurants, 15 minute drive to shopping, and well-stocked kitchen make this an easy place to have an affordable South Shore holiday. The host is really nice, and the place is clean and comfy.

  • Lovely spot of rural waterfront! Very comfortable and convenient for exploring the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Daun is a very friendly host, lives downstairs and had great local tips for us. The flat is very comfortable with everything you need and lots of fun art. Look forward to returning, especially when the back deck is completed.

  • This is an absolute gem. The kitchen is well-stocked, the rooms are spacious and Daun is an excellent host. The kitchen window looks out on the ocean with the sun rising on the left and the full moon appearing on the right. Eric's Hideaway is located on Bell Island, formerly a center for fishermen and lobstermen, of which there are only a few left. Fortunately, Bell Island is now connected to the mainland by bridge. Eric’s Hideaway, or more simply the cottage, is situated on eight acres of land with 400 feet of waterfront, and has outstanding views of the LaHave Islands and the ocean. See the photos. The front deck runs the length of the cottage and is more than 500 sq ft, facing the cove, islands, and ocean.
An upstairs balcony gives an even higher view. The steps from the deck lead down to the water. There are three separate peninsulas on the property which can be ventured on to go further out into the water. Inside, there are four bedrooms, one with a queen bed, two with full-size beds, the fourth with a twin bed and bunk beds. Three of the four bedrooms are upstairs, one of them having a balcony. The fourth bedroom is downstairs overlooking the deck and ocean. There is a full kitchen with a new stove, refrigerator, microwave, new washer and new dryer. (Sorry, there is no dishwasher.) A state of the art water treatment system was installed in 2017. There is a large kitchen table. In addition, there is a charcoal grill on the deck. We have two bathrooms. The downstairs bath has a shower but no tub; the upstairs has a claw-foot tub, but no shower. We provide towels, linens, bedding, and dishware. The large living room faces out over the deck through large windows. There is a 40-inch high definition TV with satellite service and internet service, but renters must provide their own computers. The cottage has electric heat, with each room having its own thermostat. (Please make sure the thermostats are turned off when not needed.) Nearby Attractions The cottage is seven minutes from the coastal Lighthouse Route. The LaHave Islands Museum, which is free, is only a 10 minute walk, and is a worthwhile starting place to get a feel for the history and culture of the area. Crescent Beach is a beautiful mile long beach on the ocean used for swimming and wind-surfing. Cars drive on the beach and park next to the berm. On the other side of the berm is a widely used area to go clamming at low tide. Crescent Beach is 2 miles from the cottage. After driving past Crescent Beach, if one takes a left turn, and drives a couple of miles, one encounters Risser's Beach Provincial Park, which also has a fine sand beach, a boardwalk through a marsh, a snack bar, and excellent information posters about local wildlife. The beach itself is not visible from the road. A couple of miles further, one comes to Petite Riviere, which was discovered by Samuel de Champlain in 1604. At the main intersection of the tiny town is the General Store which also serves as a Nova Scotia Liquor Store outlet. If one takes a right at the intersection of Petite Riviere, in a few miles one comes to the Petite Riviere Vineyards which is open to the public for wine tastings. If instead of turning left, one takes a right turn from Crescent Beach, about ten miles away is the Village of LaHave. Just before reaching LaHave, on the right is Fort Point, which was the first capital of New France, i.e. French Canada. There is a museum at Fort Point open most of the year. In the village of LaHave, there is the incredibly popular LaHave Bakery, full of unique baked goods and various sandwiches, pizzas, etc. The LaHave Islands Area is saturated with artist’s studios and art shows. A short drive on any of the local highways will reveal this fact. You can’t miss them. Activities In the summertime, there are numerous seasonal activities - musical events, fairs, artist shows, boat shows, craft shows, and other celebrations. The Nova Scotia Visitor's Guide, a free brochure handed out by the province, should be consulted for the dates and places of these events. The Osprey Golf Club, just outside Bridgewater, is a championship golf course and by far the best in the area, although there are other golf courses nearby, usually only nine holes. (The 9-hole courses, such as at Chester and Liverpool, have the advantage of offering you a better opportunity to slice a ball into the Atlantic Ocean.) Kayak tours, horseback riding, and sometimes boat tours can usually be arranged in the summertime. At White Point Beach, about 45 minutes south of the cottage, one can get a day pass to use the facilities, including boats and pool. Nearby, there is also an environmental park area open to the public. Short Trip Attractions The beautiful small city of Halifax, with its spectacular harbor, is an hour and a half away. Peggy's Cove, about 1 1/4 hours away, is an artiist's paradise that is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Nova Scotia. Lunenburg, Chester, Mahone Bay and Shelburne are four well-preserved fishing villages, often used for movies taking place in earlier ages. All are within forty minutes drive.

Private 1.5 acre property on a quiet road in Petite Riviere, surrounded on three sides with forest, brook and river. Fresh water swimming hole adjacent and minutes to top beaches Sperry, Rissers, Crescent and Green Bay. Charming, bright, warm, comfortable 180 year old renovated cottage tastefully decorated with a combo of modern and antique furnishings.
La Petite Maison is a three bedroom cottage with a master bedroom (queen size bed) and a second bedroom with two twin beds, both located upstairs. The third bedroom (double bed) is on the main level, as is the bathroom (bathtub/shower). On the main level there is also a small reading room, a living room, and a large newly construced kitchen/dining room which is well equipped for cooking and sharing meals with friends and family. A mud and laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen. The backyard is large and very private, peaceful and quiet. There is a tire swing, paths to the river and brook, a small pond, and fire pit (firewood available at the Petite Riviere General Store). In this quiet rural setting, there are lots of opportunties to interact with nature. There are butterflies, birds (including eagles and osprey), painted turtles, snapping turtles, fish, beavers and deer that are amazing to admire while visiting the property. There are also some more annoying animals insects including mosquitoes, blackflies, ticks, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, spicers and ants, some of which choose to come into the cottage. We do our best to maintain fly screens and other deterrents to make the cottage less inviting to these unwanted guests. Tick and bug repellants are recommended when hanging out in the yard in the evening.
This area of Nova Scotia is truly unique. Gorgeous beaches along the coast, each with a unique feel and something different to offer. Risser's Beach Provincial Park, 3km, Sperry Beach, 2km, Green Bay 2.5km, Crescent Beach, 5km, and lots of others beyond that. The Petite Riviere General Store 2 minutes away by car is a historic landmark that tragically burnt down in fall 2019. Plans are underway to rebuild and re-open in July 2020 and in the meantime the store is in a trailor on the lot. The General Store sells all your basic needs, plus beach toys and is a licensed alcohol vendor open on weekends. Locally there are several galleries, a winery, vintage clothing shop and the local fire hall hosts breakfasts throughout the year. The Ploughman's Lunch in West Dublin is our family staple. Smoked meat, buffalo mozzarella and ice cream, and the best croissants in the world (not exagerating). West Dublin Market on Saturdays is a great community event. Further up the shore and you hit La Have with the famous La Have Bakery, artists shops, and the La Have ferry which is the fastest and funnest way to cross over to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lunenburg (30 minutes total to Lunenburg from Petite). Cape La Have adventures offers kayaking day and overnight trips to the white sand beaches of the La Have Islands. The closest large local shopping area is Bridgewater, about 20 minutes drive.

  • John’s place is in such a beautiful area of Nova Scotia and the view from his cottage is amazing. His place is fully stocked with everything you’d need and is very clean. We had a great time and would love to stay again.

  • We spent a lovely couple of nights in this sparkling clean and well equipped cottage. Great amenities and the most amazing view. Lots to see and do nearby, great fire pit overlooking the sea. Nice touches such as fresh bread, jam and butter made by John's mum. If you get a chance read the potted history of the area as told by the local elementary school children!

    Emma2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as pictured! The cottage was perfectly clean when we arrived, with lots of towels, a fresh-baked loaf of bread, and a million-dollar view. We'd probably choose to rent the kayaks next time, the row boat was fun but there are lots of little islands to explore and the kayaks would have been easier to use. Comfortable beds, very quiet, great star-gazing at night with the relatively remote location. Overall, a great stay - we have no complaints! Highly recommend you visit the La Have Bakery while you're there, and if you're a runner, check out Crescent Beach at low tide.

    Kate2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I and another couple recently spent two relaxing nights at John's lovely secluded cottage on Lahave Island. Booking was easy and straightforward, no issues. Once booked, John clearly communicated arrangements for our arrival and also sent his mobile number and an alternate number in-case of any immediate issues came-up. He also promptly answered a couple of our questions regarding security and safety with a heavy storm was forecasted to move through the area during our stay, ensuring us his cottage had withstood worse and was properly built and weather-proofed. Our arrival was mostly straightforward, although the house address could be more clearly marked from the main road as there are many other cottage dirt roads in the area, leading to a few moments of confusion and a brief trip down someone else's driveway. Once arrived, the cottage was exactly as depicted in the description and photos. It is perfectly equipped and highly functional. The kitchen is well equipped. We cooked 5 meals during our stay using most of the provided appliances including stovetop, oven, coffeepot, toaster, refrigerator, as well as the varied assortment of pots, pans, casseroles, cutlery, bowls, plates, cups, tumblers, wine glasses, etc. The wifi was adequate for checking emails and quick internet searches. The cottage has several comfortable spaces to relax together or separately, including a porch area with built-in bench seats and a large stack of pillows, the main living room with couch, and comfy chairs, and a large kitchen table, where we spent most of our time playing games and chatting. Although we only spent a few minutes outside due to rain and heavy wind, there is a gravel fire pit and large deck on the front with panoramic views of the bay and other islands. Both bedrooms are comfortable, and private, as was the single bathroom. The nautical themed decor throughout is perfectly tasteful and cozy. Overall, if I had a cottage to share with others, everything provided is pretty much what I would strive to achieve. I hope to return again, perhaps during the summer to explore the surrounding bays and islands by sea kayak. There is a boat launch immediately in front.

  • Highly recommend this beautifully located and spacious cottage. Some friends and I stayed for a few days in advance of a wedding, and it was the ideal setting to relax and catch up. Very clean. Great, well-stocked kitchen. Huge front porch with great views of the ocean - the place is right on the water. John even provided a rowboat for us to explore the islands around La Have, which I definitely recommend. John was very communicative, checking in regularly to make sure everything was going well with out stay. Overall fantastic experience at a very reasonable price.

Enjoy a stay close to beaches and cafés, in a newly renovated Cape with the original charm circa 1865. You'll have access to a well appointed kitchen, laundry, cable and WiFi. A chicken coop with two Easter eggers is on the property, they are sweet free-range girls. The property caretaker can manage letting them in and out. Have lunch at Ploughmans cafe or take out from Beachside Pizza! Both are just minutes away. Crescent Beach and Rissers Beach are both wonderful places to spend your day.
This home has been redone from top to bottom, and though there are a few touches left to do (some trim, exterior and landscaping) you should be very comfortable during your stay.
Quiet home close to beaches and cafes
  • Great place to stay on the south shore lots of space, quiet as it is set back from the road. If your going to be staying in the area for a few days you will be close to local artisans and good food along with sandy beaches. Perfect place to rest or stay busy!

    David2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Old farmhouse nestled back from the road in a lovely field. Outside you can visit chicken coop and sneak an egg or watch a gorgeous wraparound sunset. Inside are newly refurbished spaces, with a comfortable upstairs bed and hammock, and downstairs another bedroom, a comfy living room, and spacious up to date kitchen and bathrooom. The charming West Dublin market is a 5m walk on a Saturday, and a great bakery is just a few mins further on foot. Plus several of the best beaches in the province just a couple of kilometres away! Lovely place to stay.

    Peter2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the old farmhouse. It had lots of character and everything we needed for the family. The bedrooms were spacious and the whole house was spotless. We enjoyed watching the chickens. It was a treat to get fresh eggs. The house was very close to three beaches, Green Bay beach being our favourite. We also walked to a great little local bakery/coffee shop up the road. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Rebecca and Paul

    Lori2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca's place is great for a small group or family. It is beautifully updated and features plenty of bright, clean space. Friendly chickens give delicious fresh eggs! Located minutes from beautiful beaches and adventure kayak tours, we hope to be back soon.

"The Barnacle", built in 1855 and updated in the 1920s, is a traditional east coast Cape Cod and remains mainly in original condition. Situated on a private 2.5 acre oceanfront property, the Barnacle is private and secluded. This is a special place. The famous Lahave Bakery, village of Petite Riviere, and cable ferry across the Lahave River are a short paddle or drive away. 12 minutes to the historic town of Lunenburg. Despite the attractions, we know you will not want to leave the Barnacle.
On the main floor, you will find a 1900s Sackville wood-burning stove, kitchen, and bedroom with beds built into the wall and a toilet with a privacy screen. Patio doors lead onto a wraparound wooden deck with a fireplace and outdoor shower. Upstairs is a full bathroom and two bedrooms with hand-built bunks.
The LaHave Islands are one of nature's jewels. This archipelago of tiny islands is perfect to explore by boat, kayak, canoe, or even by swimming. Calm waters and beautiful sunsets draw tourists from all over the world and even from the next town over. Cape LaHave Adventures, located 1km from the Barnacle, provides kayak rentals and tours. Check out the famous LaHave Bakery, the Dublin Farmer's Market, or head to the many trellis bridges to take part in some bridge jumping, a local pastime.
  • A beautiful, charming cottage.

    Matt2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, wow, wow! Staying at the barnacle felt like stepping back in time, to a 1940s Nova Scotia fishing village. The cottage had tons of character, and we enjoyed a cozy fire during a cool rainy day. The covered porch and bonfire area is where we spent most of our time. The views and ocean breeze were just spectacular - and we were so close to the beach. We’ll be back!

    David2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the barnacle was wonderful and the host was very responsive and offered lots of great tips. I appreciated the laid back atmosphere and dog friendly environment and it really felt as though the host cared about us enjoying the unique and fun things about their place. Such a unique spot and the view was better than advertised. Spent all our time on the deck and the dock and in the water. Access to the canoe, kayak and firewood were also great!! Thank you for the wonderful time!!

  • What a unique, cozy and perfect cottage to soak up an incredible view, relax and make memories. The outside deck was our fave part with a bbq and built in fireplace. Thanks so much:)

It is spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and totally relaxing. Breakfast was a highlight as was the impromptu jam session between my husband and host Kris...musicians are sought after here! Thanks Anne and Kris for your kind welcome, we will be back! Bria and Paul

  • This is a lovely home in a place of real natural beauty. Jo and Dave were extremely welcoming and helpful. The ferry to Lunenberg is close by, as are beaches, hiking, and kayaking. We were 3 generations of adults, and everyone loved the setting and the peace and quiet.

    Martha2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • All in all, a wonderful experience at Jo's house. We were a large group with 5 young children and the house was perfect. Located on a beautiful piece of land by the sea, it was immensely fun for the kids to explore and for the adults to relax. The area itself is close enough to Bridgewater to find anything you need and the LaHave Bakery was just a few Km's down road for a great lunch/coffee option. To top it all off, there are some amazing beaches and surfing just a few Km's to south.. Jo also allowed my dog and I think he enjoyed it the most.. A great/safe place for dog to swim and play!

Set in the Petite Wine region, this large old farm house is close to Petite Riviere Vineyards, many beautiful beaches, and the LaHave Bakery. Situated on 10 acres on the Petite River, the spacious house is perfect for a weekend away or as a base to explore the South Shore. Sleeps up to six adults and is kid-friendly with a nursery. We also have a fold up cot and an air mattress that can be used.
    - This house is one of the oldest houses in Crousetown. We have renovated most of the house, but not all. The upstairs hallway and one upstairs bedroom have not been painted. Our focus has been on making the house feel spacious, open and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need. There is a large and sunny backyard with outdoor seating and a BBQ. A path will take you down the hill to the Petite River.
The house is in a rural area with no public transportation, so you will need to have a car. The Petite General Store is a five minute drive away and has gas, basics, and a liquor store outlet. Bridgewater is a 12 minute drive away and has everything you could possibly need. The LaHave Bakery and LaHave River Ferry are 15 minutes away. The Winery is a 5 minute walk from the house. This area is filled with beaches and artisans.
  • Great home with a lot of eclectic character. Leitha was very welcoming and quick to respond to any inquiries.

  • Leitha's house is amazing! Perfect if traveling with little ones as we had our 3yo and 1yo. She set everything up for them to be both comfortable with a fully outfitted nursery! Couldn't have asked for more. The house itself is full of character and they have done an amazing job with recent renovations. Very clean, nice amenities overall. They really open up their home and so you get an authentic genuine experience that is very classy. The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need so easy to cook meals. Short drives to some amazing untouched beaches and lakes. Great with kids!!

  • We had the most enjoyable stay at Leitha's and Nathaniel’s lovely home. It’s not just another Airbnb house. It’s a real home. You can feel it immediately as you enter, it’s warm and welcoming, also beautifully decorated. It is visible that Leitha and Nathaniel spend long hours working on their home to create this beautiful little gem. Leitha was so sweet that she left us a bottle of excellent vine for Petite Riviera vineyard and some cheese with strawberries. Thank you again.

Make yourself at home in the cozy guest room of our newly renovated 1880s Cape home on the South Shore of Nova Scotia! Close to great beaches for surfing, swimming and walking, art studios, antique shops, the famous LaHave Bakery and much more.
The Shore House is a lovely old home set off the road but with a great ocean view. We live in a quiet and private spot that we love for it's south-facing garden and woodland behind. Michael has been renovating the house for the past two years so it has a unique and - we hope - warm feel to it. The guest room is upstairs and can host 1-3 people as it has a double bed and a single bed, as well as a large desk and a tv to stream programmes to if you like (no 'regular'/cable tv stations though). The bathroom is downstairs so you need to be comfortable navigating stairs to use this house.
The area is ruggedly beautiful with endless outdoor opportunities. Cycling, hiking, surfing, kayak tours with Cape LaHave Adventures, and swimming spots are all very close by. There is also easy access to Lunenburg (20mins if you use the ferry), Bridgewater, Mahone Bay and to Highway 103 - the road that runs from Halifax to Yarmouth. The house is set off the Lighthouse Route, which is lovely for a drive/cycle and fortunately has pretty light use, even in the summer months.

My place is steps away from beautiful Crescent Beach. You’ll love this home because of the location and the outdoors space. My place is good for couples and families (with kids). Other attractions within walking distance include West Dublin farmers market (Saturdays) in the summer months , and Risser's beach. This home is in an ideal location for enjoying all the south shore has to offer. We are about a 10 minute drive to the cable ferry in Lahave that takes you to Lunenburg.
This home is a three bedroom one bath cape. One queen bed, one double and two twins. There is a wonderful little tree house, greenhouse, studio and barn with wood stove. Well equipped for cooking, eating and relaxing in front on the fire.
You are just 10 minutes driving from the Lahave bakery and steps from the white sand of Crescent Beach. Perfect location to get away and unwind.
