Dumfries and Galloway dark skies park is a stunning location to get away from it all. Based on our eco friendly off grid small holding, the yurt is solar powered and has a wood burning stove, shower room and composting toilet. The yurt has a double bed and three singles (all with down duvets) so sleeps 4 x1 or 1x2 and 3x1 we don't charge a cleaning fee, so what you see is what you pay!! The chemical free, DIY hottub is very private and for the exclusive use of our guests.
Galloway yurts is a solar powered traditional mongolian yurt situated in our meadow on our off grid sustainable small holding near Kirkcowan, south west Scotland. warm, private, comfortable and self contained, it is an ideal place to kick back and get back to nature. The yurt has a gas hob and a well equipped cooking area, a wood burning stove and 12vt power for lighting and charging phones and tablets. One double bed and three bunks all made up and ready to go, there is a shower room and composting toilet, also a barbecue and picnic bench for summer out side cooking and eating, and an outside fireplace for keeping warm whilst stargazing! the first load of Wood for the stove is free through the winter months and from spring to autumn can be purchased from us (but please feel free to bring your own), please bring your own charcoal and torch. The yurt has fantastic views all round and has an open aspect, perfect for viewing the night sky and watching the sunset, you may share the meadow with sheep and sometimes horses, if you want the horses out of the field this is not a problem we are happy to move them. There is plenty of space for kids to roam and a small stream behind the yurt is ideal for kids to splash around in and for keeping drinks cool. The chemical free hottub (subject to water availability) is ideal after a day of walking in the galloway hills, mountain biking, local sightseeing or chilling out at the yurt. The tub is wood fired and you are responsible for starting and keeping the fire going, ( this generally takes about four hours) if you need a hand to get you started just ask. As the hottub is wild water and chemical free we clean and refill it for each set of guests, for this and enough wood to heat it for two nights we charge £25.00. Additional nights are £5.00 per night for the wood. please contact us to book the hottub and for more information
miles of unspoilt coast line. great walking and cycling. peaceful with amazing dawn chorus. and fantastic starry nights.
  • What an amazing place this is! We absolutely loved staying in the yurt, it was so cosy and comfy and had everything you need for a few nights away from the rest of the world. The hot tub is an amazing touch and is definitely worth the few hours it takes to get it going. The view of the stars on a clear night is incredible and is nothing like we have ever seen before. Brett was amazing, helped us with the getting the stove and hot tub going and even gave us some fresh eggs to bring back home with us, which we really appreciated. I would 100% recommend staying here, you won’t regret it.

  • What a treasure. Beautiful yurt provides a comfortable retreat from any hustle and bustle. Calm, gentle and comfy.

  • My stay at the Yurt was transformative. I arrived in a flurry of confusion cos the sat nav sent me on a merry go round. It is remote , peaceful and very comfortable. I met Brett and spoke to Alison on the phone, great hosts in that they have found a wonderful balance of giving the information needed to get to grips with the burner, chargers, power, pump, toilet, shower, washing up , blah di blah and then trusting that you can manage it. I loved it. Keeping an eye on the fire, getting my wellies on and aff!!! Living in a round space, everything connected. Yes it was a wonderful stay were you drop into another lifestyle and realise how we can tread a gentler step with the earth. Thank you xxx

  • We had an amazing time in the yurt. We didnt want to leave! Alison and Brett are fantastic hosts, always available to help if need be and fast at replying. The yurt is truly magical, and the countryside area it is in, is so calming. All the facilities were great, and fire in the yurt was extremely toasty! If you have the chance definitely go and stay here So much to do and overall a fantastic experience!

  • Something we looked out for when choosing a air BnB was being able to get to it without a car yet still being in the depths of nature ! Which is definitely possible through bus + taxi! Its even a magical stay even when all there is is chilling inside of the yurt during a storm! All you need is friends, wine and games! We thoroughly enjoyed cooking and dancing in the yurt, would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of booking. Alison is the most loveliest host, thank you !xxx

  • Wonderful place away, the hot tub was fab and the yurt really cosy and comfy even in a storm.

    Hannah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing experience in a perfect location. The Yurt is beautiful and warm, even during storm Ciara we were really cosy. The outdoor hut tub is definitely worth the effort, it’s lovely and cosy in a tranquil setting. We weren’t very lucky with the weather but it didn’t hamper our trip and on the final night we had clear skies. We’ve never seen so many stars. Lovely welcoming host. We’ll definitely return.

  • We had a beautiful stay in the yurt. Warm welcome. Excellent fun setting up the hot tub. Relaxation and bliss at its best.

Escape from it all at this simple secluded, cosy cottage with stunning views, perfect for couples or families. Kids have space to make dens, climb trees and toast marshmallows. In the evening curl up by the fire, play board games or read a book. This is your own secluded holiday cottage set 1/2 mile up a track away from the main road and no other houses around. Whilst there is no internet or TV, there is a DvD player and you can get limited mobile access (vodafone and 02). Keys are in key safe. Once you have confirmed you will see the number. You have the run of the whole cottage and garden (except the caravan and shed which the owner keeps as storage). Although we don't live close by, we have family in the vicinity who can assist if there are any issues. Just call me on +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) if there are any problems. Dogs - we're happy for 1 or 2 well behaved dogs, but please keep them off the furniture. The garden is not dog proof and there are sheep, cattle and horses in the neighbouring fields so they need to be kept under close control. However there is a nice walk down to the sea (over main road), where dogs can be let off the lead, and there are numerous great walks a short drive away. Rubbish collection - recycling bins at the bottom of the track (by the main road), are emptied on a Thursday morning. Please put your rubbish there the night before. Ruined castles, beautiful gardens, mountain biking, sandy beaches, lovely villages are all within a 30 minute drive of the cottage. Although there is a bus stop 1.5 miles away in Carsluith village, buses are very infrequent and you are advised to bring a car. The cottage is accessed by a rough track 1/2 mile from the main road (A75). It is perfectly accessible by a normal car, but do take care. Some firewood and coal is supplied, but please use sparingly. There's also a BBQ you can use (please bring own coal). Our children (11&9) love playing in the woods using the rope swing, making dens, lighting bonfires and using the zip wire. You are most welcome to do the same at your own risk. Please ensure your children are adequately supervised. The nearest shops are in Gatehouse (8 miles) or Creetown (3 miles). There are lots more tips and information in the cottage.

  • We had a lovely stay at the very cosy cottage. Perfect location to relax and explore in Galloway during the day and sit back and look at the stars at night! Thanks

    Tom2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic base for exploring the Galloway Forest and nearby seaside towns. Easy to find from the main road, even if the track is extremely bumpy to say the least... make sure you take it slow ! A very cosy cottage, with wood supplied for the open fire. A lovely touch with the gift of wine on our arrival ! The kitchen and bathroom are very basic, but clean and sufficient enough for a few days away - you will need to bring your own milk/bread/supplies etc as there is nothing left at the cottage. Lots of suggestions for places to visit dotted around the rooms ! Apart from tonnes of board games, there is only a DVD player for 'electronic' entertainment, no live TV or Wi-Fi (which was fantastic for us) so make sure you bring some of your own DVD's to the cottage as the ones supplied are mainly children's ones :) Thank you Stephen & Kate for letting us stay at your holiday cottage, from Bonnie, Simon and Juno (woof woof) x

  • This place is even better than you can see in the pictures. The outside space is incredible. The cottage has its own private woodland. Our kids (6 and 9) had a great time exploring the woods, playing on the rope swing and zip line and playing in the den. There are great walks directly from the cottage, and many more just a short drive away. The cottage itself is cosy and well-equipped (including plenty of games, books, toys, jigsaws and DVDs). Every room has a beautiful sea-view. The hosts were extremely helpful and quick to respond (even on the day when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the cottage). Highly recommend this place and hope to go back sometime soon.

  • Wonderful place to explore the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway

    Chris2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful, glorious place with amazing views! Everywhere you look is beautiful- even the drive was lovely. We had lovely weather, and watching the sunset and stars was just amazing from the cottage and down at the beach (which we easily walked to). Honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough- if you're looking for a secluded break in a cozy, fire-warmed cottage with fantastic views, this is your best bet. FYI, the other reviewers aren't kidding about the road- it's pretty rough (though I agree it should be suitable for any car), and it is best to go very slow (like, first gear). Also, pick up some condiments such as salt and oil before you get there if you plan on cooking so you don't have to make an extra trip on the road and can just build a fire and relax in all the rural glory of the place.

    Lora2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect location for exploring the stunning Galloway Forest Park. The cottage was so cosy and secluded and provided everything we needed.

  • This was a cosy and warm hidden away space with a fantastic view of the surrounding village and area. Everything we needed was there. Bed was super comfortable and shower airy and spacious-with all the toiletries you could wish for. Had a black folder with great local walks clearly set out with pictures. We went on 2 of them and followed them to the letter. They were very beneficial. Warm and welcoming host.

  • Cassie and Tristam and their family were great hosts; they warmed up the room and put on hot water for tea when we arrived late and tired from the ferry port. The room was charming and clean and conveniently arranged; the lovely little town of Garlieston was fun to walk around in, quiet, and un-crowded in March. We loved the view as well. This place was truly worth the drive down narrow roads to get there!

    Marianne2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cassie's AirBnB is totally charming. It's a little sea-blue room with en suite, fitted out perfectly for a single person or couple to have their tea while looking out at a beautiful bay view. The little town situated on Garlieston Bay is lovely to walk in, rain or shine. The posted history and pictures near the city hall, the historical little park with the giant steel mill wheel and its history, situated on the roaring mill stream, and the sea wall with access to the bay during low tide are all within a short, easy walk of the Cassie's house. The next larger town, Whigtown, is full of interesting book shops! Cassie herself showed us great hospitality; when she found that we had driven through the night to get there and were parked out front in our camper van, waiting for the afternoon to check in, she was afraid we were cold (it was mid-March) and she put the extra heater and the kettle for tea on, and at the first sign that we were awake she told us to come and check in early and get warm! Access to our room was through her front door, in her family home; Cassie made us feel as if we were not just some American tourist strangers, but her long-lost family come for a welcome visit.

  • This is a great room, all you need for a short stay. A lovely welcoming family. A great little village with an interesting WWII history, and a great pub!

  • We have been here for three nights and felt very welcomed. At the end of the street is the Harbour Inn. We went there for drinks and dinner. The area is really beautiful and the room and bathroom are spacious. A really nice touch was the breakfast we were provided with. There was a loaf of bread, loads of tea, coffee and other hot drinks. Would recommend this place!

Very quiet and peaceful location makes staying in this house a joy for those wishing to visit beautiful Dumfries and Galloway and specifically Wigtown, Scotland's book town. Nice clean double room with lovely views and superb kitchen on offer
My home is in a very quiet and lovely location, a mile outside Wigtown, Scotland's book town. The house itself has an excellent kitchen and the room is spacious. The owner is easy going and willing to help wherever he can (That's me, I am describing!)
Very friendly local folks - I am originally from the West Midlands in England so I think I can comment!
  • The house is great, the bed is equipped with a heating blanket, which is great for a stay in January, Joe is very nice and his dog adorable, and the region is splendid. In great stay!

  • I stayed a night at Joe's place whilst on a cycling tour of Dumfries and Galloway. It was perfect for the purpose and Joe made the process of finding the house, checking in etc. very easy. The room was very clean and comfortable. Joe gave me a good recommendation for a local place to get an evening meal (The Bladnoch Inn). I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

  • Joe is a very relaxed, welcoming and trusting host. We had a very pleasant stay in his home in a great location in the Machars. The double bed is comfortable, the shower, which is in the bath, has amazingly good water pressure and plenty of hot water so no trouble rinsing out the shampoo! The kitchen is clean and seems well equipped, although we didn't cook during our stay.

  • Very cozy home! Lovely views, and it’s close to Wigtown, so it made an easy trip. Great host, too!

    Pmbeck20032019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean and really affordable! Lovely views of the Galloway Hills! If using public transport, you can 'hail and ride' in the area, so the bus stops right at the end of the road. (Tip - if you walk to the right at the end of the road to the interchange, you can catch additional buses that skip Wigtown!)

    Pov2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • My stay in Wigtown at Joe’s space was wonderful. Joe was consistently a kind, warm, thoughtful host. He even made sure I was able to get to and from the train and Wigtown- which much to my surprise wasn’t as close as I thought, but I was so grateful for the help there- it felt like he went above and beyond in that. The space was clean and welcoming and warm. There was everything I needed provided and a grocery store not too far away. The location was perfect for me, I didn’t have a car but I found I loved the walk to town and in nature. And for my respite trip it was all perfect. The area is gorgeous, gentle but rich. I would definitely recommend a stay in Wigtown with Joe and would most definitely look to staying there again on my next journey to Scotland. Thank you again, Joe!

Traditional period cottage with stunning contemporary extension and splendid sea views to the isle of Man. Located in traditional farmland just over a mile South of Isle of Whithorn, on a wonderfully unspoiled wild coastline. Isle of Whithorn is a pretty fishing village with a superb pub and a tearoom with shop and post office. Nearby there are sandy beaches, rocky coves, sea fishing. The night skies are wonderfully dark for star gazing.
Pet friendly! Snug sitting room with coal fire, and modern sun room extension with sliding glass door to fenced in garden.
Scotland's National Book Town, Wigtown, is only 15 miles away with bookshops and cafes, and garden nursery. The annual book festival is end of September to early October.
  • Michelle’s place is outstanding. It’s a stylish yet warm and welcoming place. The sun room is perfectly laid out and has uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside and sea. There are lots of thoughtful touches around the place, which are a real bonus. I rely on other recommendations when booking, and I would highly recommend this wonderful place.

  • Cutcloy Cottage is as pretty in the flesh as it is in the photos. It's in a remarkable location with great views stretching out to open fields. Inside is spacious, clean and very well presented. Cosy and calming but also very modern. We arrived at night but the heating was on and Michelle had put out a mini hamper of goods that really added icing to the cake. My wife and I visited with our 2 sausage dogs for 4 nights. We found it a perfect platform to reach Galloway Forest & Isle of Mull. We even ventured into Fort William and the Highlands one day (be prepared for a long journey if you're thinking of doing likewise) The cottage is easily accessible and there's a number of places you can go to eat/drink not too far away. Before arriving, Michelle had reached out with a couple of suggestions. Being unfamiliar to the area, I found this really helpful. Finally, if you appreciate art - this is the AirBnb for you. Michelle is a very talented artist and you'll get to see some of this within the cottage.

    Mike2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Views better than expected and the cottage has one of the best kitted out kitchens we've stayed at which we really appreciate. The view is better than the photos suggest and you feel isolated without genuinely being remote which is great. We got a clear night in november so sat outside with a fire and watched the stars as its near-total black. Absolutely great, thank you!

    H2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle's place was everything we expected and more. When we arrived, it was dark but once we were inside it was already warm and inviting, ready for us to settle in. After after a fantastic sleep we awoke to an absolutely glorious sunrise and a view of farm land and the Irish Sea from the very warm sitting room. It was absolutely breathtaking! And the silence and security of the place from the ice coastal winds made you feel so comfortable and secure no matter what the weather was doing. Fortunately for us the sun was out all week long and we were able to enjoy everything the place and everything it had to offer from the nicely equipt kitchen, the beautiful ensuite/bathroom, the lovely fireplace and the very secure backyard for our dog. A wonderful host and a wonderful place. We enjoyed every moment and completely recommend you go an experience it for yourself.

  • Cutcloy Cottage is beautiful and has fabulous views over the fields and the Irish Sea. The cottage is beautifully furnished with some lovely touches from Michelle. We couldn't have been made more welcome. Would highly recommend for a quiet relaxing holiday.

  • Absolutely wonderful stay at the cottage. Great secure garden for the dog and sitting out to enjoy the views. My daughter loved the fluffy highland cow and 2 teddies in 'her' bedroom and the nightlights were a great plus. Everything you could want/ need in the kitchen which was perfect for cooking. We'll definitely be booking to go back!

  • Precinct House was just about the nicest cottage we have stayed in, the house itself was perfect, the furnishings & Antiques were amazing, and the Peat fire was so welcoming at the end of a chilly day. we had never been to this part of Scotland before, and found it just as enchanting as anywhere else we had been, the people were so welcoming , the local pubs ( Steampacket Inn ) were exceptional we will definitely be coming back

Hawthorn Cottage is a traditional cottage built in 1900 for farm workers when Barraer was a working dairy farm. The cottage has been tastefully modernised as a holiday destination but has kept its traditional rural appeal, It is located on the farm with superb views of the Galloway hills. Farming is still carried on at Barraer Farm with cattle and sheep grazing on the surrounding 400 hundred acre farm. The area has abundant wildlife which can often be seen from the cottage and on various walks on and around the farm.
  • A great value cottage with amazing views and very friendly host. Very thoughtful host Helen left a delicious homemade cake with a nice card for me in the kitchen on arrival. Also a small but pleasant detail was the amazing variety of birds at the bird feeder outside the kitchen window. I would recommend this AirBnB.

    Jamie2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Hawthorn Cottage. The facilities are spot on, beds super comfy, the house was very clean and the host was extremely friendly. Helen even took the time to greet us with a homemade cake! The stand out feature of the cottage in our opinion, is the location. The views from the house through the picture window of distant mountains are simply outstanding! The cottage is in a very preaceful location, yet only a few miles from all the amenities you need. Very happy to recommend to all.

    Neal2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great house, a little remote but exactly what we wanted. Great views especially at night. Loved the cows in the field over the road, they kept us amused. The loch was a great benefit although we left the fish in for the next people!

    Campbell2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I write my response in Dutch. Let Google translate it. We had a wonderful week in Helen's house. We have seen a lot of the area, both the coast and a high mountain and gardens. We especially appreciated the view, so we could see what the weather was like that day. It was the first thing we looked at in the morning and the last thing we saw in the evening and it was always different. We were there in June, so nice and long light. It was also a wonderfully large window and no one came by, was lying next to the road to Helen's farm. For the rest, it was a great house that particularly stood out by the small details. Such as everywhere a trash can, a fireplace in the room, wooden storage bins for bread, chairs that are ready outside and so on. And a tasty home-made cake as a welcome. It was all a bit classic and therefore nice. The only thing that bothered me a bit were the two steps to the living room and bedroom. At night I fell off once at a toilet visit. They are also lined, no clear distinction between the steps. A modest night light in the corridor would be a very good addition. And the beds are short, so less suitable for tall people. Maartje

  • An oasis of calm. I normally sleep with earplugs because every little noise wakes me up but at Helen's place I didn't need them. Never slept better in my life! A fantastic little cottage with everything you need. We watched the cows graze in the field across the road every day. Will be sure to come back again. Thank you Helen!

The Gardeners Cottage is set within the walled gardens of Corvisel House, built by Rear Admiral John McKerlie in 1829. We have restored the cottage in a vintage, quirky style with Donegal & Harris tweed soft furnishings & floral accents to reflect the glorious garden outside! It's located at the edge of Newton Stewart so very handy for evening strolls to the eateries in town. You can take walks in our small forest from the courtyard & hang out in the walled garden - green fingers are welcomed!!
The cottage is a cosy & quirky home with lots of interesting bits & bobs artfully displayed throughout. There is a super king bed in the courtyard bedroom & a double in the garden bedroom (this room is also roadside). We can easily add a single bed if a twin is required for guests, just ask! There is no dishwasher, however a lovely window to look out of when doing the dishes...or even better just treat yourself to a meal out in town (4min walk). There are a plentiful supply of books to snuggle up with & we're totally happy for you to potter about in the walled garden of gardening is your thing!

Charming, well equipped, homely cottage situated on a quiet road in Garlieston. 200 yards from the sea front, where you can walk along the coast with a selection of beaches and gardens to visit. There is a terrific pub (Harbour Inn) a short walk away and a convenience store around the corner. Garlieston is a great spot for watersports activities, including kayaking and sailing. If you are interested in that, Cornmill outdoor activities are situated within close proximity to the cottage.
The cottage is named Gilhooly Wattle. Staying here feels like going back in time, due to it's 1970s feel. It offers a unique experience, a perfect escape from the modern world!
  • Overall fantastic and love the Retro feel, worked for us brilliantly with goodish weather and great craic from meeting people local, will be back

    Iain (Silver Fox)2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Ok so when you walk in it does feel very retro as if all furniture has been bought in charity shop but it is very cosy and you quickly forget all that. The place is warm and cosy and watching birds in the garden a joy. Beds comfy and yes making them on first day a bit of a pain but otherwise cannot recommend this place enough . The village is lovely and views of calm or rough seas really wonderful to wake up to

  • A lovely quaint and cosy cottage - the decor takes you back a few years but modern trappings are all there (WiFi etc) without spoiling the charm. Great location, handy for beach and pub with good parking. Would recommend taking a king size, non-fitted sheet for the double bed.

    Jacqui2018-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Very peaceful and plenty of places to walk to. I would advise anyone coming to stay to bring their shopping with them or call to Newton Stewart on the way in to save having to drive out to get food.

    Susan2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • The location is great if you are looking for peace and quiet and lovely coastal walks through woodland (which I was!). The cottage is very well equipped, and great for all those 70's decor fans. The garden is an extra bonus along with the swifts and the swallows. I would love to come back to stay here again.

South wing en suite bedrooms of Machermore Castle. This is a self check in and check out facility. We have 3 freshly renovated en suite bedrooms in the ground floor of the South wing . They are disabled access compliant with disabled showers. The bedrooms face the South lawn offering views towards the valley and river.
My place has great views, family-friendly activities, restaurants and dining close by. You’ll love my place because of the warmth, coziness and the comfy bed . My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts, business travellers and families (with kids). The estate is private, so you will be surrounded by lawns, forests and valleys with peace and tranquility.
Newton Stewart and the surrounding area is full of nice bars and restaurants. There is plenty to do especially for the outdoors types such as hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing etc. The location is perfect and very accessible being just off the A75.
  • Great location, an impressive building and all you need for a comfortable stay. We had a great time at the castle. I strongly reccommend this place.

Accommodation itself is clean and tidy. Room has a little kettle and cups with tea etc provided. Lovely bed with fresh crisp linen. The photos are a good representation of what you are getting. The bathroom may be slightly dated but it’s lovely and clean, that’s all that matters!

  • I had a wonderful time at the caravan. All the staff at the park were lovely and very helpful. I will be back to visit again in the summer.

  • We had a wonderful 3 night break in Sharon's van. It was super comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Despite it being October and us having a mixture of weather, the van got cozy quickly and was a pleasure to spend time in. The site itself has heaps to do from golf to pony trecking. Whilst we ate at the bar one afternoon (delicious Sunday roast!) we spent most our time away from the site enjoying some local hikes and bike rides. We went to the mull of Galloway which was great to. I really recommend Sharon's van for a short break - I hope to get back soon!

    Sarah2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at your place. Everything was sparkling clean. The bedrooms were very cosy. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook a nice meal. The living room was spacious and we had some great evening meals with the family. The people at reception were very friendly and helpful. There is so much to do in the area. We visited the Mull Of Galloway, had a walk in the Galloway Forestry Park and we saw lots of Abbeys and historical sites in the Area.

  • Great guest house in the lovely town of Wigtown. Comfortable, clean room and an outstanding veggie breakfast. I was very well looked after by Julie and Natascha and have no hesitation in recommending Glaisnock to anyone for comfort, great service and excellent value for money!

  • This is the most and most NB BNB I have ever lived with my daughter-in-law! This place is a book town. The Glaisnock Cafe (public comment I will add evaluation + map) is a small cafe in this town. There are rooms on the second floor. I drove for nearly 10 hours that day. From Inverness to Wigtown, Julie waited for us until 8 pm. The people were very enthusiastic and recommended a local pub (called CRAFT). The next day Julie also prepared a hearty Scottish breakfast for us, which is very delicious. (Remember if the appetite is not so big, don't order everything, because there is really too much for an adult, and you ca n’t finish it ... …), My wife and I both feel the town is clean, julie and her husband and the people in the town are very friendly, the house is clean and tidy, and the price is the best!

For the more adventurous there are lovely walks, cycling tracks, water sports, horse riding centres and top notch golf courses in the area. You’ll need a car to explore but there are local taxis for pub visits!

Services: Coal and logs for open fire are provided. All bed linen and towels included. But bring your own beach towels.
Airyolland Cottage sits just 4 miles north of Port William in Dumfries & Galloway. It’s a great base for exploring the area. It lies on the shores of Luce Bay looking towards The Rhins of Galloway to the West and The Isle of Man to the South. There is plenty to see and do in the area - here are some of our favourites... Beaches This area has been dubbed the Scottish Riviera because of the warm climate and the miles of coastline. There are plenty of family and dog friendly beaches which don't get overcrowded - from sandy ones for safe bathing to those for keen water sport enthusiasts. There are some stunning walks around the various beaches with rock pools and cliffs for exploring. History Isle of Whithorn or “The Isle” is home to the ruins of St Ninian`s Chapel which dates back to c 1300 and marked the start of the pilgrimage route to St Ninian`s Church in Whithorn. St Ninian`s Cave is also nearby. Nearby Wigtown is Scotland's Book Town and has over 20 book shops and related businesses with a museum telling the story of the area including memorabilia dating back to 1707. Castles If you like them then Dumfries and Galloway is the place to visit. There are more than 100 castles located in the county. From the spectacular Caerlaverock Castle near Dumfries and Threave Castle on Threave Island, to the less well-known Isle of Whithorn Castle - which stands at just ten by nine metres in size. MacLellan’s Castle in Kirkcudbright features a ‘Laird’s Lug’ secret spy hole behind the great hall fireplace from which the laird could eavesdrop on his guests. Distillieries Gin - Nestled on the edge of Newton Stewart with panoramic views over the Galloway Hills is Hills & Harbour Gin Distillery. They do great tours - you can watch, learn, drink...and mix your own cocktails! Whisky - is obviously big news in Scotland and there are several distilliers on your doorstep. Bladnoch Distillery is one. Annandale is Scotland’s oldest operating distillery. Located close to the Scotland-England border, they’re also the first (and last) distillery in Scotland.
  • Superb location with stunning views. We spent a lot of the week in the conservatory with its stunning views and sound of the sea reading and playing board games,so peaceful. We will certainly be coming back again. Thanks Janefor being a great hostess. Roy Moon

  • Janes place is amazing. It has everything you could ever need all under one roof. We had such a lovely time and enjoyed our days out and evenings in front of the fire. Very impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was, how there were plenty of towels and blankets and all the little things were covered. We literally just brought ourselves and some food for the BBQ. Jane was excellent with communication and all the silly questions I had. She was quick to respond and put us at ease as this is the first time we have used Air BnB. Would 100% stay again. Lovely home and lovely host.

    Elena2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay here. The place had everything we needed and was exactly as we expected from the listing. Great spot for exploring Galloway.

  • Great space, this lodge is extremely modern, plug sockets have USB sockets which is very handy. There was no WiFi in the lodge at all but we was fully aware of this before we travelled. the location is very picturesque and in a very desolate place, so great if you like to hike or just chill out. We travelled around the area by car as was happy to drive, and found it a good base. The bar on site is fairly dated but welcoming, worth noting it doesn’t open until 7.30pm.

Lovely peaceful seaside village on the wonderful Solway Firth. A quiet and restful place with lots of outdoor activities close by. Garlieston itself has an attractive harbour with both pleasure and commercial fishing boats making it an ideal base for sailing. The original village was planned in the mid 18th century by Lord Garlies, later 6th Earl of Galloway and the modern village retains the original quiet character. The village has an excellent pub and restaurant and it is worth exploring the bustling town at Newton Stewart which has many excellent shops and places to eat, or in contrast the quiet and peaceful book town at Wigtown which boasts many unique and interesting book shops and cafes such as the Beltie Shop and tea room.
  • The View is fantastic. The property itself is lovely and has been furnished beautifully, with everything you could need, by very thoughtful owners. The actual views are stunning ! We're looking forward to staying at The View in Garlieston again.

  • The chalets is perfect for exploring around the Isle of Whithorn, the location is amazing. It was spotlessly clean, had everything you could need for your stay, and there was lovely thoughtful things like guide books, binoculars and some very nice edible treats. The chalet was perfect for myself and my husband. There was a really nice outside space and we were delighted to see a big fat hedgehog snuffling around! We would recommend and we would love to go back ourselves!
