  • Extremely well located accommodation in the heart of Marvão. The view from the room we occupied had a breathtaking view of the entire region! Despite some minor booking issues (the only room available was a higher category than the room booked here by Airbnb which resulted in a surcharge) Jorge and Tereza always answered our questions promptly and very quickly. The facilities on site are very good and clean, all the reception staff are extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was surprising as it was very good and varied. Overall experience was very good and recommend to all!

  • Marvão is the most charming place I've visited in Portugal. Paolo's place is fully equipped, comfortable and located inside the walled village. There are nice restaurants, souvenir shops and a wonderfully preserved castle. There are several hiking trails, Roman ruins and megalithics nearby. I would recommend staying more than a day or two.

  • Beautiful, tranquil experience to stay in this tiny walled village. Lovely villa, met by Paulo's Portuguese parents. Swimming at the freshwater pool 5kms away was refreshing

  • We loved everything about Marvao and this house. The photos give a hint of how comfortable the house is, and the features that are both historic and modern. The house is in a row of whitewashed houses, on the street leading through double arches into this walled village of 120 residents. Our hosts were kind, warm and friendly, especially so when we needed to call to tell them we had locked ourselves out inside the walled garden. This is one of those places we were sad to leave and are sure to return to. Marvao is magical.

  • This is a gorgeous and comfortable farmhouse close to Marvão. We had a really relaxing time here. We loved eating outside on the terrace. The house had everything we needed, and my boys were happy to find the box with cards, chess and dominos. We visited Marvão, Castelo de Vide, swam in the river and went for a walk through the valley at the bottom of the drive. If you are tall, all the beds are only double, but this place is very charming, I highly recommend.

  • Picturesque mountain house 5 minutes from the castle of Marvao we are well located and in a magnificent place for those seeking peace and quiet in nature.

  • traditional house, very fresh despite end of August very hot! Great location to visit this fabulous region. The river pool in a natural river is 1 km away and can be reached on foot by a nice path that passes right in front of the house! Only downside the parking quite difficult to access. Otherwise we loved our stay with friends and enjoyed a lot of the relax offered by the shaded and friendly patio of this house! thank you Raquel.

  • We consider this the best Airbnb experience we’ve had to date. First off, Racquel is a wonderful host, offering continuous tips and suggestions all of which we took and all of which were fantastic. Secondly, you can’t beat this location - just on the hill side of beautiful Marvao in a wonderful part of magical Portugal. Welcoming locals, very few tourists, super authentic vibe. Racquel’s is a quaint farmhouse, which for us was a big plus. For breakfast you can pick and eat grapes and figs right off the vine and trees. In the heat of the day you swim at the local swimming hole. In the evening go for a rail bike ride, and for dinner... follow Racquel’s suggestions!

Todas as divisões possuem aquecimento.

Welcome to "Pouso": for those looking for comfort, simplicity and a unique experience in a traditional Mongolian yurt, hidden away on a 4 hectare olive and cork farm. This tranquil and Romantic escape is surrounded by nature and the singing of birds, the tinkling of sheep bells and the gentle rustle of the cork oak leaves. Situated within the São Mamede Natural Park, from Pouso you can walk up a medieval track to the hilltop town of Marvão where "one can see the entire land" (José Saramago).
Our 6 meter diameter yurt has a comfy double bed where you can gaze at hundreds of stars through the crown at night and hear the crickets lullaby and goat bells in the morning. There is a fully equipped kitchen attached to the yurt and a private hot water shower and compost toilet, with panoramic views of our olive trees a short walk away. Come and enjoy the beautiful simplicity of life!
Sao Mamede National Park, in Alto Alentejo, is still an untouched area where time has stood still. There are many scenic and historic walks, It's a great spot for birdwatching and tasting local cheeses and wine still made the traditional way.
  • We loved Suzana and Marty’s yurt so much, we came back to Portugal to stay in it again. Even better this time. What an idyllic, peaceful refuge that connects you to the land, the people and the food of the Alentejo. We miss it so much already.

  • This place was an amazing place to stay! It actually had the most comfortable bed and the best shower of my entire trip. SOOOOO calm and peaceful, day and night. A beautiful place to enjoy a starry night with a glass of wine, bread and cheese. LOVED it here.

  • Where to start! Our stay at Suzana and Marty’s was exceptional! From the moment of our arrival we felt so welcomed and at home. The Yurt was wonderful, super clean, so many thoughtful touches were put throughout and it was incredibly comfortable. They offered many local tips and were great to communicate with. This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery with some wine. There are many great walks close by and would definitely recommend doing these. The amenities are also great, the shower was spacious and of course there’s the toilet with a view! Overall, Suzana and Marty are such a kind and lovely couple and their Yurt and the overall stay here is certainly a reflection of that. Can not recommend enough! We hope to be back sometime. Thank you Suzana and Marty!

  • Our stay at the yurt was just great. The space inside is big and we had everything we needed. Outside the yurt is really beautiful and calm. I could just say that everything was so perfect that the rest of our trip we were comparing everything with this yurt and nothing was as perfect as this one! Thank you Suzana and Marty !

  • Awasome Yurt in the middle of Olive trees in High Alentejo. Great location, amazingly comfy stay. Suzana and Marty are lovely and have built a paradise on earth. We have loved our stay and will definitely go back.

    Felipe2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is probably the best AirBnB experience we’ve ever had. All the little touches made it feel like a home away from home. It’s got everything you need if you want to cook, but is close enough to the towns in the area should you want to eat out. A great place to base yourself to explore the area. It’s really beautiful with so much history. Marty and Susanna are great also - so helpful and thoughtful. Marty gave us a tour of the old roads and stone graves on the property - hundreds/thousands of years old. Muito obrigada!

  • There are places where you can feel very quickly that here someone with care, intelligence and love wanted to create a place where visitors should feel comfortable. This place is undoubtedly one of them. I especially liked that everything really includes everything up to the bottle opener, Bluetooth Speaker, of course very comfortable bed or hospitable way provided good wine, all a certain value. If I may say so, I do not think anything else would be suitable for the hosts. With their special helpfulness and kindness they complete the place to a stylish place of rest and relaxation. Thanks again!

This charming guesthous has a traditional Portuguese living/dining room, kitchen and bedroom with en suite bathroom. The living room has a typical Alentejano fire place. Casa das Rosas has its own entrance and a shared swimming pool with the max. 4 guests of Casa da Figueira and is only a few steps away.
Quinta da Saimeira is located on a small side-road between Portagem and Marvão. The estate is 12 hectares and consists of cultivated land with fruit-treed terraces and olive groves and a wild part with big granite rocks. Around the house it is possible to pick fruit right off the tree throughout the year from the large variety of trees like for example orange, lemon and persimmon.
Quinta da Saimeira is a good start to explore the rich culture of the Alentejo. Nearby, at only a few kilometres, is Marvão with its Medieval castle. The village of 200 inhabitants is a candidate for UNESCO Heritage. Marvão has been part of the Roman settlement of Medobriga. The Roman influences are still visible. Besides Menhirs and cobblestone roads, there are the excavations in Ammaia, a Roman village at 6 km, comprising a theatre, bathhouse and the remains of an entire village.

  • Perfect place to disconnect, in the middle of nature, with an incredible peace and tranquility. The house is a bliss, does not lack anything, the pool, great, and be able to enjoy a beer on the porch, with skies so clear, no light pollution, is priceless. For the reception, there was a bottle of wine and a fresh bread roll with the typical butter with Portuguese salt, which is much appreciated after a long journey. The host, Michiel, very nice. We had the opportunity to chat 20 minutes, in a moment that passed by. Do not get into anything else, but it's at your disposal. Marvao is a place to visit, and is only a 5 minute drive away. Highly recommend. It has been a pleasure.

  • Very comfortable house in a secluded mountain area, the road to the house is narrow and unsealed but ok for a normal car. Excellent amenities, including a swimming pool which was very welcome in the warm afternoons. Good wifi reception. Michiel and Margreet were very gracious hosts. There is a large supermarket about 20 minutes away, open 7 days a week. Lots of interesting places to visit in the vicinity, especially Marvão.

    Patricia2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We love it when we stay somewhere where there's room to move. The space is very charming and well done. Most comfortable. Good kitchen to cook in and dining is in or outside. The bedroom is spacious with a dresser and plenty of closet space. What a beautiful area in the country. Birds singing all day. And a pool to relax by and go for a dip. The property is next to a walking trail which is a beautiful walk. Good views as well. We took time out from our travels, nested in, and spent time in this lovely area. Welcoming hosts and very helpful. It was hard to leave.

    Natalie2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Michiel's place is an absolute paradise on a mountain. Instructions to reach the place were very clear with signs all the way from the main road to the place itself. The place was very quiet and peaceful and Michiel was very welcoming. The place itself is warm and very cosy with lots of privacy and only a few steps to the large pool. From the house you can start hikes to nearby historical villages while enjoying the beautiful views.

Bem vindo à Casa do Meio!

  • They are exceptional hosts, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The house is wonderful, very well located, with a beautiful and restful surroundings. It exceeded our expectations. In addition, it highlights the cleaning and organization of the house, the functionality of all utilities (bathrooms, kitchen, etc.). The zeal with which these hosts take care of their guests is reflected even in details of comfort.

  • We had the apartment on the ground floor. Very nice decorated, a bit quaint. Beautiful surroundings directly around the house (there was a nest with swallows in a kind of extension) but also the whole area. Marvao is also a nice town. We could not find the drive. We did have directions but we came across from the other side. Then we were picked up by parents of the landlord (Sofia). Too bad we stayed for only one night. It certainly could have been longer.

  • First of all, if you are a Game of Thrones fan this place is for you, it is literally a walled village on top of the world with spectacular views from 360 degrees. Our room within the B&B was quant, well equipped, charming and very comfortable. The breakfast was continental style and adequate for getting your day started. The host was very informative and provided everything that was requested. We would definitely stay here in the future.

Todas as divisões possuem aquecimento.

  • Absolutely lovely location and a very nice house with a beautiful view over the Alentejo plains. Great walks in the area - I particularly enjoyed the hike to Castelo de Vide. Well equipped kitchen. However, if you plan on cooking a lot of meals yourself I would advise you to have a car or be very fond of walking as the choice of groceries in Marvao itself is limited. I came by bus from Lisbon. A handful of nice places to eat or have a drink in town or nearby as well so you don't have to cook if you prefer eating out. Very tall people will have to consider the door frames. Warmly recommend for a few nights (or more if you don't want action and the attractions of a larger town).

  • Very unique and comfortable place to stay. All the modern comforts while maintaining historic features of the home. Quiet for sleeping. Driving to the home is challenging with the very narrow streets and extreme caution is needed for that along with parking. Owners were very responsive to any needs and requests. Highly recommend for uniqueness of experience!

    Michelle2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautifully restored old home. The original “bones” were still present but immaculately restored. Our hosts were incredibly helpful and kind. Catarina’s husband even helped us with a dinner reservation and tips for making the most of our stay in Marvao. Communication with Catarina was excellent and directions to the home were perfect. Catarina even left us a little snack and there were amenities such as soap and a small first aid kit. Also, she had a book with information about the town and transportation. If you are driving, beware that the streets are very narrow and a bit scary if you’re not used to that, but parking is easy and right by the house. I would 100% stay here again.

120 yr old ex-flour Mill ( 2 bedroom), by the river Sever in the beautiful Natural Park of Sao Mamede. Awake to the river flowing sweetly on its way to the Spanish border. Set in amazing botanical gardens with Cork Oak , eucalyptus and Olive trees. 26 species of birds have been spotted (including bonelli eagles flying overhead). A paradise in which to relax and adventure. Great new swimming pool! walks along the old smugglers route and local horse riding to the Hill top castle town of Marvao.
Lovely restored mill with bags of character. Restful and serene by the sweet river Sever , deep in the Lost Valley of Ramila. Comfortable beds and top quality linen. Indoor w.c. and shower. Two bedrooms (double beds) which sleep 4 . Relax on the outside terrace facing the river. Staying with us at our Lost Valley of Ramila will be a unique experience. It is so peaceful , relaxing and in tune with nature. A real paradise- and a great holiday venue! Probably the best setting in the region for a great country holiday break.
Close to historic hill top towns of Marvao and Castelo de Vide. Roman ruins of Ammaia. Close to the Spanish border. Local restaurants serve honest, portuguese traditional foods. Lovely markets and local festivals and great places to visit including wineries. Some of the best horse riding in Portugal just down the road.
  • Lost valley of ramila is a truely enchanted place. We stayed at the restored mill house down by the stream and it is just like entering an old legend story. So quiet and calm, surrounded by trees and with the sound of flowing water all the time. A great benefit in the very hot alentejo summer is that the old stone mill house, shaded by the big trees and cooled by the cool river is so much cooler than the surrounding area. On our first morning there we actually wore long sleeve shirts and pants only to find out a few meters up the path that the temp. was about 38 degrees celsius! Pool area is also beautiful and the whole place is designed with a lot of good taste. Ron and ritsuko are great hosts, welcoming and helpful. They let us use their freezer and helped with every question we had. Not to mention that despite the fact we arrived extremely late (1:30 am) ron welcomed us very pleasantly and showed us the way down to the mill house. One important warning regarding the mill house: if you are afraid or just really don't like insects and bugs - dont take this house. It is literally in nature, and surrounded by huge amounts of insects and spiders, that no matter how much you try to keep out, do come in. We also got stung by wasps, quite painful. I dont think there are so many insects and spiders up in the cabins by the pool, but there are wasps also by the pool.

    Noam2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was exactly as we had expected and we had no complaints whatsoever. We were made to feel welcome from the start and nothing was too much trouble. Ron & Ritsuko have renovated the accommodation sympathetically and the buildings by the river are the perfect place to relax and feel part of nature. We certainly want to stay here again

    Judith2016-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Unreal place. We just had a fantastic time at the lost valley. We stayed in the renovated mill and loved every minute in there. It's obvious every little detail has been carefully thought out, making this place very special. The river goes by the house and cools the place down. And for even more refreshing on a hot day, the swimming pool is a pure beauty and delight. With Marvao just up the road, this is a must-do if you're spending days in the Alentejo, and want to enjoy quality time in a natural environment. Well done, Ron and Ritsuko! Thanks for the welcoming, and thumbs up to Astrid for her help, kindness, and recommendations. We'll be back for sure!

Typical Alentejo house with much charm and private swimming pool. Our property has 2.0 hectare with beautiful trees, like pine, fruit, and olive. You can stay in one of our rooms or caravan. Outside there is a shared area with small kitchenette, BBQ, shade and sunbathing area. Located in the Natural Park of the Serra de São Mamede, there are many ways to spend time in nature. Discover unique places like Marvão and Castelo de Vide and go back in time. Here you will find peace and tranquility.
We live in the main house where we serve the morning breakfast. Besides that, we have 2 extra separate bedrooms and a caravan that can be rented all together or separate. In total, we have 7 beds and an extra baby cot for a small baby. The caravan is on the property a bit away from the house. The 2 bedrooms have a private entree on the other side of the house. First, you enter a small hallway where you will find a refrigerator and some basic kitchen necessities to be shared with both rooms. From this hallway, you enter both the bedrooms. The space listed here we call the WHITE ROOM. It has 18 m2 and 2 single beds (can be put together or separate) and a private bathroom, with bathtub and shower. This room allows us to put in a baby cot. It has a small table to sit at and a closet for your personal belongings. It has air conditioning and a small desk you can work on with a computer. You may use all the shared facilities around the house. We have a covered veranda with a big table where you will find the possibility to make coffee and tea or cook on a two-burner cooker. Around the corner, we have a big BBQ with small tables and of course the swimming pool.
We live in a rural area in the middle of the Nature Park Serra de São Mamede. We chose this place because we love the hilltop village of Marvão and from our house, we have a lovely of view it. This also means shops are not next door. There is a small mini mercado 2 km away in St. António das Areias, but all other shops are further (Portalegre and Castelo de Vide).
