Your guide to Revelstoke

Welcome to Revelstoke

The small mountain town of Revelstoke punches above its weight in the world of epic outdoor adventure. Nestled between the soaring peaks of the Selkirk and Monashee mountains in southeastern British Columbia, Revelstoke is known for its incredible ski terrain and wide-open spaces, an ideal situation for those seeking a winter wonderland without the crowds. The Revelstoke Mountain Resort contains the longest vertical drop in North America at 1,713 metres (5,620 feet), and the town is the self-described heli-skiing capital of the world. Outside of the winter months, Revelstoke offers the opportunity to wander through fields of alpine wildflowers, raft the rapids of the Illecillewaet River, and hike in Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks. In the compact and walkable downtown, enjoy stepping into independent shops and sitting down at local restaurants to enjoy après-ski with a craft brew or cocktail, and feast on creative dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Revelstoke

Revelstoke’s mountain location means epic snow falls and cold winter temperatures – the perfect climate for active skiers, riders, and snowplay enthusiasts. Pack plenty of layers to keep warm and peel off as you stay busy on the slopes. Revelstoke is located in a temperate rainforest, so spring rains keep the valley cool and wet while maintaining the snowpack on the hills for an extended ski season. Warmer summer and early fall temperatures feature snow-free trails for hikers and mountain bikers to access the alpine and explore the town’s national parks. On summer nights, the downtown is lively with activity that spills out onto patios of local restaurants, craft breweries, and distilleries.

Top things to do in Revelstoke

Waterfall Trifecta

Revelstoke is located in the world’s only inland temperate rainforest, which means there’s a lot of water here. And where there’s water, there will be waterfalls worthy of exploration. Revelstoke has a Trifecta: the Sutherland, Begbie, and Moses Falls. The falls are best viewed during or after a rainstorm but are beautiful at any time of year. In winter, strap on your snowshoes and head to Begbie Falls, which is often frozen.

Meadows in the Sky Parkway

Ascend close to the summit of Mount Revelstoke on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway. Drive the winding road from the Columbia River valley into the alpine of Mount Revelstoke National Park. The road begins in the lush river valley and gives incredible mountain views and lookout points along the way.

Revelstoke Railway Museum

The Revelstoke Railway Museum showcases the impressive historical construction and operation of the Canadian Pacific Railway as it carved its way through Western Canada’s mountain region. The railway played a pivotal role in the growth of Canada, and the museum has a satellite branch at the site of the driving of the Last Spike at Craigellachie, just 30 minutes from town. You can stroll among railcar exhibits and climb aboard vintage steam engines and locomotives.
