CORONA VIRUS UPDATE Hi all I just wanted to inform you all of how Outdoor Retreats ltd will presently be dealing with bookings at Dan y Coetir Lodge in regards to the Corona Virus. The Lodge will remain open, but we will be taking the following precautions: We will now for the most part, be checking guests in and out with instructions sent over the phone and using the lock box for the key. This is typically how we operate anyway and has worked well up until now. If our assistance is needed however, please be assured that we are close by and always able to help, Corona Virus or not! Cleaning staff will arrive at least 1hr after guests have checked out and will leave at least 1hr before guests are due to arrive. Extra precautions will be taken to protect their health and that of our guests. The cleaners already ensure a very high level of cleanliness at the lodge. Antibacterial cleaners are always used throughout the property but you can be assured that this has been stepped up to include more points. Our cancellation policy remains the same and we will always make every effort to rebook holidays if it comes to that, but please ensure you have holiday insurance in place. You'll probably be aware of the loo roll shortages being experienced, as we are unsure if this is going to persist and our suppliers are currently out of stock we are suppling loo roll at a rate of 1 roll for every 2 nights booked. This is to protect what stock we do have, the rolls we use are longer than standard so this shouldn't be a cause for concern. We have checked with BISHTA (The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) and their current policy is that there is nothing to worry about while using a hot tub. The coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine/bromine used in swimming pools and hot tubs. Our hot tub uses a self dosing system so bromine will always be present in the pool but if you are concerned and would like the pool tested again during your stay just ask. I think that covers most things for now, if things change we will keep you updated but we want to stick as firmly as we can to this policy. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you at Dan y Coetir Lodge. Thanks a lot Joe Scott Outdoor Retreats Ltd There are 2 bedrooms one is upstairs and accessed by the original spiral staircase (which may not be suitable for elderly or disabled guests) and the other is downstairs. Both bedrooms have 2 single beds however upstairs in the master bedroom they can be joined together to create a king-size double. We can also provide a travel cot and a stair gate. On the ground floor as well as bedroom 2 you will find the living room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room has two 2 seater sofas a dinning table with 4 chairs, smart TV, blueray DVD player, telephone and a selection of games, books and DVDs. The Kitchen is well stocked with cutlery and crockery utensils and implements. It has an induction hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer. Complementary Tea, Coffee, sugar and milk are supplied. The Bathroom features a large shower cubicle with electric shower, toilet, hand basin and vanity unit and a large heated towel rail. Guests are supplied with toilet paper, bath sheets and hand towels and also pool towels for use with the hot tub. From the kitchen you enter the garden, with hot tub and plenty of seating options. Guest have full use of the hot tub, we ask that you read the instructions in the welcome pack and follow the rules displayed in the garden. In the garage you will find a separate tumble dryer, bike tools and service equipment, shoe dryer, clothes rack and cleaning equipment. The roller shutter door has a head height of 2 meters which makes the garage suitable for most cars and some Van's. we can allow pets upon request, they are charged at £5 per pet per night. When booking, we will need the address of the person making the booking.
Although our cottage is in walking distance of Merthyr Tydfil town center, Cyfartha retail park and Rydycar leisure complex, and within cycling distance of Bike Park Wales and the Brecon Beacons it retains a rural feel. Dan y Coetir Lodge is in a row of grade 2 listed former colliers cottages opposite a small horse stable and exercise area.
  • A great place to stay if considering some activities in the Brecons. House was immaculate and had all the amenities required.

My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in a a small hamlet called Cwm Argoed 2 miles from Blackwood, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, It is a large bespoke bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 1 bedroom available (1 single with a pullout that makes a double bed), Please be aware that there is one network that has poor coverage Vodafone, being semi rural there is a short tight lane to get to the village. Please note I work shifts so contact before booking thanks
Large detached bungalow set in a quiet semi rural location just 1 mile from The Maes Manor hotel which makes my location ideal (and much cheaper) for people attending functions at the hotel. The location is only 2 miles from the former mining town of Blackwood, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond which is ideal for walking and picnics, and 1.5 miles from a large caravan park, 10 miles from the historic town of Caerphilly (with good public transport links), 16 miles from the Brecon beacons andonly 20 miles from Wales' capital city of Cardiff. There are good public transport links to Cardiff with trains running regularly from the local train station (3 miles to station). There is off road parking in my private drive for up to 2+1 cars.
The neighbourhood is a small hamlet in a quiet cul-de-sac. Being quite remote, access is via a lane where you turn into a small terrace, go past 12 terraced houses to 6 detached private houses at the end of the road (so you can as much noise as you like!).
  • Jeff's place is a home not a hotel . As a 53 year old female traveling alone I felt safe and at ease with Jeff and Freya the Spaniel . I love dogs so the combination of a dog and shag pile carpets didn't bother me but some people may feel differently . Jeff had plenty of great tips for days out and local sights . The bungalow is in a cul de sac at the bottom of a steep valley with forest on all sides and a river that can be heard from the bedroom . There are plenty of forest trails to walk and again I felt at ease wandering around for the 2 weeks I stayed , the locals are very friendly and helpful .There is a bus stop on top of the hill with busses every hour or so , Cardiff is easy to get to by bus , a Mega bus ticket can be bought from the driver for £28 and is valid for one week and covers from Cardiff and Newport in the south to the Brecon Beacons and around to the north . Jeff's place is in-between the two , culture and nature , something for everyone .There are plenty of shops 2 miles away in Blackwood , up the hill to catch the bus , this was also a pleasant walk on a mostly level asfalt path surrounded by trees and with great views over the valley . This was my first Airbnb stay , easy to book and honest reviews of what to expect . I already have plans to come back again next year . Thank you again for everything .

    Debra2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff is an amazing host, very welcoming, friendly and happy to help anytime. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at his lovely home.

    Emma2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff was a fantastic host and very entertaining! My son and I needed a base to go mountain biking the next day and Jeff's place ticked all the boxes plus more. Thanks Jeff and look forward to returning soon :)

  • If you choose Jeff as your host you will not be disappointed, he will ensure you’re stay goes well

    Rob2019-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • I didn't make it to stay due to injury but I'm sure it is totally up to standard. Communication with Jeff was great.

    Kriss2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed at Jeff's for a single night, but it was as relaxed as if we had been visiting for years. He is a great host and happy to provide where he can. The house is well set up, clean and easy to find. We had both rooms and found the beds very comfy. Freya the spaniel is also a sweetie, and helped with the homely feel. Thank you so much Jeff and Freya!!

  • Great little place to stay as a base for exploring the Brecons.

    George2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well thought out, clean, stylish studio which is ideally situated close to the Brecon Beacons national park. My partner & I stayed here for New Year's Eve with our little dog. Quiet room even with a pub/hotel next door, great amenities with nice touches. The fresh milk and welsh cakes were very much appreciated after a long day walking! Thank you for a lovely stay, will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others!

    Jacqueline2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • James' Place was amazing. It is stylish and well throughout regarding layout and amenities. A stones through from a shop and local pub. Great TV to chill out to Netflix with and little desk for work. All in all some very clever touches to a cosy room.

    Mark2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was really fantastic. James was thorough in his directions when the map can be temperamental. There were lovely little touches that made us feel really welcome when we got to the place itself. Really clean and organised to boot. The wi-fi was on the spotty side but that's the only thing I wasn't expecting. Everything else was flawless for the price. Great place and thanks fo the stay!

    Jaimun2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, stylish, spotless and characteristically modern little patch of home that offers free parking. Close to Rhydcar Leisure Centre where you can find franchise restaurants such as Nando’s and Frankie & Benny’s, as well as entertainment such as a Vue cinema and about 20 mins drive from the picturesque Waterfall Country, great for a day out hiking. A 45 minute evening trip if you’re interested in having dinner in Cardiff City Centre as we were. Would very much elect to stay here again in the near future.

    Aaron2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant, peaceful, stylish, great value for money. I will definitely use this Studio again if I find myself close by.

  • First time staying in Wales properly so to be in a friendly and easy going home means a lot! Nothing is to much trouble where Les is concerned and will go out of his way to make your stay a good one. Privacy is respected and you will feel very secure. It’s a good location, there is a convince store, pubs and chip shop near by and you’re not far from Tredegar town or well anywhere really. I would stay here again.

  • Les was fantastic and accepted our last minute request swiftly. He has a lovely home as advertised and we we also got to do some washing which Les laid out for us in the morning. Thanks so much!

    Nichola2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Les' communication beforehand was great and meant that access & check in were easy. Some nice touches with breakfast options being included, as well as drinks and snacks left in our room. Plus information on local shops, places to eat, etc. Les also lets guest access washing machine facilities. For Di & me Les' place was ideally placed to access an event at Parc Bryn Bach and we'd definitely look to stay there again id we were heading to that area. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to go to stuff in that area. As a host Les will make you welcome and make sure you are comfortable.

We stayed over the weekend when storm Dennis was hitting Wales. One of two campervan spaces with electric hook ups at the Roost Merthyr Tydfil, a small site in Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil with shared shower rooms and kitchen facilities, parking, WiFi etc. Minutes from BikePark Wales, on the Taff Trail and on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. An ideal base for exploring. And we don't mind a bit of mud.
Our cabin/campervan site, The Roost Merthyr Tydfil, has four cabins and space for campervans. Its ideal for group getaways and exclusive hire is available. We currently have space for two campervans, max 6m. Vans only please, no motorhomes due to space restrictions. Each space has an electric hook up and guests have full use of the shared facilities. No space for awnings but there’s plenty of covered and outdoor seating around the site. Shared facilities on the gated site include: 3 shower rooms each with loo, sink and shower (our loos flush using recycled rain water) An inside/outside kitchen with seating and all the essential equipment and tea, coffee, sugar and milk A bbq Parking Drying room Bike wash/tools The Roost is a Visit Wales quality assured glamping site. Well behaved dogs are very welcome to come and stay. We just ask that owners clean up after their pooches (there’s a poop bin just outside the gates to the Roost on the Taff Trail) and be considerate to other guests. Guest access Each cabin is private but the rest of the site/facilities are yours to explore/utilise including the shared kitchen and shower rooms.
The Roost is in Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil, in the heart of the Welsh Valleys with the Brecon Beacons on the doorstep. There's a pub next door (it doesn't do food but has a pool table!) and the village centre is a 5 min walk away. Here you’ll find a cafe (they do great value breakfasts and Sunday roasts to eat in or takeaway (and they can deliver)), pubs, convenience stores, a butchers, chemist, cashpoints (within the convenience stores), an Indian restaurant and takeaways . Merthyr Tydfil town centre is 12 mins by car, 18 mins by train (from Troedyrhiw) or a 20 min level bike ride on the Taff Trail. Here you’ll find a wider choice of food and drink and shopping, a cinema and leisure centre.
  • Loved every minute of my stay, I stayed on the campervan pitch. Really clean kitchen and shower room. Would highly recommend!

The Taff Trail spans the length from Cardiff to Brecon. The village has a well stocked shop as well as 3 pubs with one serving food. If those don’t take your fancy Table Table is a 4 minute walk away, along with a Co-operative and much more. The cottage is located within close proximity to Merthyr Tydfil, once the Iron capital of the world, and has direct links to the train station and bus stop. • Perfect location for biking / trekking , accommodation is very warming and cosy and has all you need for a great stay. The hosts and locals are very warm and friendly and all amenities/ pubs/ shops are within walking distance. So glad I found this place, will be my first choice twice a year for when I visit Brecon Beacons.

  • Spacious, bike storage for six bikes min plus hose etc. To be honest we were either on the bikes at the pub or sleeping, either way the host was very professional. Everything possible was covered in an info pack. Tea coffee towels welsh cakes milk etc made for lovely touches. Only minor note is the mattresses were a little past it. Certainly comfier than some of the other bnbs in the local area though. Overall a fantastic weekend, will definitely be back

  • Amazing space! Perfect for a bike trip! The house has everything you need if you are a biker. Great beds, great bike storage and a nice living room to chill in after a days riding. Merryl and her husband were great hosts and it was fab to meet them both.

  • The house looked as clean and well taken care of as the photos! It seemed very recently renovated and everything was clean and well decorated. Shannon was an amazing host and the guest guide she provided with all the local attractions was super helpful. We would definitely go back, preferably in the summer so we can enjoy the garden as well!

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The lodge is in the grounds of our home with a good size double bedroom and a cosy living room with wood burner.
Situated in a small village but within easy reach of the Brecon brecons and 45 mins from Cardiff . The local neighbourhood has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor adventures and history. Fishing, camping, biking ,climbing ,walking , paragliding are amongst the most popular to do things.
  • Good accommodation in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, 10 minutes walk to a pub and public transport. Small shop in village, 5 minutes by car from big supermarket. Nice friendly host and hostess. To really appreciate the area you need transport, you can drive to Cardiff, Brecon Beacons, Airport and South Wales coast in an hour.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Andrew and Emma were fantastic; great value for money, would recommend and we hope to return ourselves.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful welcome of a roaring fire, milk and welsh cakes! We arrived late from a long trip down but we could get straight in and rest up in the warmth. Loverly couple who were always quick to respond. Place heated up quite quick and plenty notes of suggestions to eat, visit or walk. Great escape from the city but close enough to a Morrison's, fuel and shops. One warning is for those with a lower car like a sports car, there is a mighty steep hill to get up the way we entered the street which our Ford Estate just edged up/down without scraping. Is impressive to see but we also took our Z3 and would have had to park at bottom haha! Perfect little spot to escape the world from.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place during the Xmas week and loved it. Andrew and Emma are very warm friendly easy to talk to people. On arrival, Andrew had already made a fire in the cutest wood burner and the Xmas lights were on too. That's was exastly what I needed after hiking and shopping. I was on a solo holiday and Emma offered very kindly to bring me a Xmas meal. Been a foodie I already planed my cooking but it was still so nice of Emma. The place is very easy to find and walks to PYF and the board on PYB just about 30min away. It's a great location for many walks of all level of difficulty and kind (hilltops, reservoirs, forest, etc). Andrew and Emma checked regularly to see if all is OK or need anything. I won't hesitate to recommend them. The kitchen is well equipped. Very good bed. Decent shower and plenty of products (hand-wash, shampoo, shower gel etc)

The cottage boasts reservoir and mountain views in a REMOTE, tranquil setting. The 53 acre farm is a traditional hill sheep farm and home to our rescued animals. The walking and cycling potential is endless. You can walk up the famous Pen-y-Fan and back again from the doorstep. Near to Taff trail and South Wales Mountain Bike route. We have donkeys, ponies, goats, pet lambs that love cuddles and fuss. Please see photos, fun at Coed Hir.
Ty Cwtch consists of an entrance hall with plenty of space for coats and boots that opens on to, a down stairs toilet and an open plan living area with log burner, lounge area with TV & DVD (no tv signal), dining table for four, and fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs there is two bedrooms, the main bedroom has a Double bed and the second bedroom has an occasional double both rooms have beautiful views over the reservoir. There is plenty of room in the big bedroom for a portable cot to stand. Upstairs there is also a bathroom with bath and shower over the bath.
Peaceful and quiet - A haven away from the busy day to day hustle and bustle of life.
  • What an absolutely awesome place! As locations go to doesn't get much better than this. A cosy little cottage on a real working farm surrounded by stunning scenery and run by the nicest, friendliest couple who had loads of local knowledge and helpful tips to make the most of the area. Top notch, highly recommended!

    Jonny2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and cosy home, perfect for getting space from the outside world. We loved that there was no signal, but a gorgeous fireplace and snuggly sofa with plush blankets instead. Little treats and extra details really made it the loveliest place for us to rest before and after a big Brecon Beacons walk which we reached right from the front door. Thank you!

    Emily2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Got a dog? Love walking? Not terrified at the thought of no phone, TV or wifi? This is the place for you. A warm welcoming fire, all the amenities you need for a basic walking break. Make sure you have a book or your paints for the evenings and you will be out all day admiring the amazing scenery. Local pubs provide food but we stocked up with our own food and didn't need to go anywhere near civilisation!

    Nicole2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Utter animal heaven. It was so wonderful I plan to come back every year. I adored the location, the views were amazing. The animals were the best and the owners are simply wonderful people. We even got to see a just born lamb. This will always be my happy place.

  • Absolutely lovely hosts and the place was completely spotless. Had a lovely stay, and we’ll miss Mabel the sheep.

  • ⭐️Amazing communication from host. Sent loads of useful information of directions for getting to the lodge. ⭐️such cute personal touches, daffodils, wood for the log burner, brioche, biscuits and doggy treats all in arrival. ⭐️sparkling clean, neat, tidy and pristine. ⭐️kitchen has everything you need, there is even a slow cooker. ⭐️I was concerned about the lack of phone signal, tv signal and no WiFi but it actually turned out to be the. Eat thing ever. We watched about 4 DVD’s and it felt lovely to be “off the grid” for a while! ⭐️we didn’t take children but this place is child friendly. ⭐️would definitely stay again and recommend to all!

    Eleanor2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Morris and Felicity are delightful hosts as are their array of pet farm animals. The space was absolutely perfect for us and the location stunning. Good luck to M and F with the farming ventures and hope we can return some day.

    Jimena2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start ? The communication from Felicity was perfect and prompt, giving me all the information and directions that were spot on. The location was second to none, the added touch of the meet and greet to the animals on the farm really made our weekend. We have 2 dogs and I dont think we could of picked a more accomodating host. Felicity recommended the 3 peaks walk for us and it was spot on distance and time wise! Having the area out the back of the farm to give the dogs a run in the morning is a god send as they are active. To sum up, if you are looking for somewhere to stay, off grid, no signal, a few DVDs, a place the reconnect and reassess, look no further ! The most helpful host you could ask for in the most perfect spot, made for a PERFECT weekend!

Semi-rural two bedroom house in small village within ten minutes of the Brecon beacons national park. Ideal base for exploring south wales and all it has to offer. close to amenities shops, pubs, on bus route, mountain bike park ten minutes away.
Very comfortable well equipped cottage maintained to a high standard. With welcome pack on arrival to include all the essentials so you don't have to worry about rushing out for supplies if you arrive late or tired.
Princetown is set along the A465 Heads of The Valleys Road. The title Heads of the Valleys was given to this section as it joins the northern tips or "heads" of the South Wales Valleys. Staying in this part of the country offers you the opportunity to experience the border between rural and industrial South Wales. Having lived here for many years I feel its uniqueness is that you have all the amenities of the modern world on one side and on the other can escape into the wilderness of the magnificent Beacons and view landscape that will lift your heart and make your smile widen. There are so many activities that happen around us from Bike Park Wales to the Adventures of Parc Bryn Bach and many more right on your door step. That's why we aren't moving far away and want to offer our home to let you experience this beautiful part of the world.

My house is a small terraced house in Ebbw Vale, it has three bedrooms and a downstairs bathroom, which is not unusual in Wales. The house has recently been refurbished with new heating system and a new fitted kitchen which can be shared.
The room available is the largest bedroom at 15 ft long and about 11 ft wide, it has two windows, a king-size bed which is new, a chest of drawers and hanging space. There is a TV with an Apple box which will allow you to access your Netflix, Prime or Apple viewing accounts, there is no terrestrial TV, but you are welcome to borrow from my video library as there is also a DVD player attached. I have a small garden and a garage, I am able to provide visitors who are cycling, room in the garage to store their bikes, there may also be room fora standard motorbike. My house is dog friendly for well-behaved dogs as I have a small dog myself
My street is handy for the town centre, but far enough away not to hear it. Morgans wine bar is close which has a good reputation for food.

Cwm Farm Cwtch, is a homely cottage set on a farm in Pontsticill, Merthyr Tydfil. You can enjoy the fantastic views and scenery, take a walk around our farm and interact with the animals (donkeys, chickens, dogs). Situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park, The Cwtch is in a perfect location for a number of activities, e.g Brecon Mountain Railway, Bikepark Wales, Morlais Golf Course, River fishing and lots more. There are a number of pubs in the village that serve food and local beers.
As we are on a farm we do have dogs on the yard that are all friendly and we are happy for you to bring your dogs too. You will also find some chickens roaming around the farm yard and donkeys in the fields. We are avid mountain bikers and offer you secure bike storage and washing facilities. If you have any dirty kit that requires washing we will happily get that sorted for you.
Pontsticill is a small village however there are some great pubs that all serve food and have a warm welcoming atmosphere.

  • Great cottage in a wonderful location.

    Geoff2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Crawnon River cottage was a wonderful rural retreat. It was beautiful and cosy, we even arrived to some lovely welsh cakes and a lit fire! The journey to the cottage was slightly complicated by a heavy storm and flood warnings but that didn’t stop Edmund and Khrienuo coming to rescue us to get us safely to the cottage. What excellent hosts! Despite the weather, we managed to go for some walking in the local area which was beautiful! We would happily recommend both the cottage and the hosts! Thank you!

    Victoria2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully peaceful and cosy cottage on a 'no through' road in the welsh valleys. Lovely setting by the side of a mountain stream, with great walks along and out of the valley.

    Andy2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at this beautiful cottage (with a very cosy fireplace). Khrienuo was very helpful with local tips, and we particularly enjoyed a few short hikes from the front door.

    Calum2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage set in the heart of the Welsh Valleys. You even get your very own stream running right alongside the property. There’s also a walk right from the cottage, through the woods and up to the top of the surrounding hills where you get a 360 view of the surrounding area and what a view it was! The hosts were really helpful, friendly and the cottage was to a good standard. We would definitely go back and stay again.

  • The shed is a great alternative to the traditional hotel/B&B option. It was perfect for 4 blokes on a mountain biking weekend. Lynne was a terrific host and even drove us into town on thursday after we arrived. The Red Lion pub (400m) was so welcoming and friendly - a real high for us. Would highly recommend and will use again on our next MTB weekend.

The room was very tidy, clean and the sheets smelt of dreams. Tammy went the extra mile to ensure I had a great stay. • 4 of us were heading up to Bike Park Wales and Black Mountain Cycle Center for my 23rd Birthday so we needed a place to crash. I found James’s Place while looking around and thought it was exactly what we were looking for. We checked in with a self check in code which was awesome so we could arrive at a time that suited us between 3-12. There’s also a car park which we could park in and Check in was super easy and well planned. We stayed in flat one which was very quirky and made us feel at home straight away ! We was greeted by James’s mothers cakes which were one of the best we’ve ever tasted and I was also greeted with a birthday card and some chocolates by the team at James’s place . Very clean and tidy and also have ya some little things like tea , coffee and milk which was great after a 3 hour drive. Finally james place is outstanding for the fact my partner left his track pump in the flat and posted the keys , so we phoned James’s place up and he sorted it out straight away and allowed us to get it back , that’s what you call a super host ! We will defiantly be coming back Thank you James’s Place

    Cari2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at James place for 2 nights on valentines weekend in order to explore the Brecon Beacon and the apartment was in the perfect location for that. The self check in was super simple and we found the flat to be very clean and had all the things one would need for a short stay. There was also a lovely extra of a valentines rose:) thank you James for that! The parking is on street and there was always a space right in front of the flats. Excellent stay!

  • James' Place is super cool. It has loads of character and some really nice touches. It was a little gemstone that happened to be on the way to where we were going. The village it's self isn't up to much but we did find a cool little tapas pub. It wasn't serving food at the time but we stayed for a drink and had a chat with a few local characters. Great value for money. Thanks James.

Quarryman's is a mid-terrace 18th Century cottage situated in the sought after picturesque rural village of Trefil on the borders of the Brecon Beacons National Park. A unique location with south facing views and garden, in easy access to the A465 Heads of the Valleys and connectivity to other transport routes. A great base to explore south Wales - Ideal for couples, location managers, solo adventurers, and business travelers.
Best of both worlds. Whether you're looking for an overnight stay or short break the cottage is in prime location for ramblers, caving enthusiasts and general lovers of the outdoors. Three miles from the historic town of Tredegar (the birthplace of the NHS), and within ten miles from both Cyfartha Retail Park and Festival Shopping outlets - there's also something for the serious bargain hunter. With travel time to Cardiff less than an hour, and 14 miles from the Abergavenny Food Festival - Quarryman's Cottage is ideal for an inexpensive stay for local shows and festivals. Originally a stable, the cottage became home to fourteen members of a local quarry family. With no two cottages the same - it has a charm of its own. With Bike Park Wales only 10 miles away and with a selection of local bike trail routes; garage storage of bikes can be provided at owners own risk. Here on business...you'll be assured of a peaceful stay. With excellent 4G coverage and in close proximity to the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone and Circuit of Wales Development. There is a strict one pet maximum allowance, well behaved furry friends will be considered and there will be an extra charge. A pet gate is provided to ensure that they remain downstairs throughout the stay.
We're the highest village in Wales...This is what Wikipedia says about us. Geography.. At 409 metres (1,342 ft) above sea level. Trefil is perhaps best known for its limestone quarries – The Trefil Tramroad and the Sirhowy Tramroad formerly linked the quarries with the heavily industrialised areas to the south, providing limestone for the furnaces. The former Brinore Tramroad connected the quarries at Trefil with the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal at Talybont in the Usk Valley to the north. Open moorland rises to east and west of the village, the slopes to the west being known as Trefil Ddu and those to the east as Trefil Las. The moorland of Mynydd Llangynidr to the east undulates considerably and contains a number of caves beneath its surface. Most famous amongst these is Chartist's Cave one mile to the northeast of the village What's in a name.. The village name may derive from the terms 'tref' and 'mil' signifying the 'farm of the lesser celandine', a plant which might be expected to grow in the stream which flows through the place, the Nant Trefil. Nature... Trefil Quarries and Trefil Ddu are noted birdwatching sites; this area is the last remaining site in Gwent where ring ouzel occurs regularly, and other species present include raven, wheatear, stonechat, whinchat, snipe and red grouse. Arts and entertainment... The BBC TV series Merlin filmed many episodes at Trefil quarry and the feature film Wrath of the Titans was filmed there in June 2011. Not forgetting, Terry Pratchett's - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

  • This little house is a gem in the mountains. Our daughter loved waking up every morning and saying good morning to the sheep, the view from the main bedroom is beautiful. It’s the perfect location to escape from it all but know that within 2 minutes your back down on the main roads. We discovered an amazing little park just Round the corner which our one year old daughter loved. It’s the perfect house for a few days of escapism or a base for exploring the Brecons. The welcome treats were also a lovely touch.

My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in Cwm Argoed, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond. It is a large bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 1 double bedroom available. There is a short tight lane to get to the village, I work full time please check for check in times
Large detached bungalow set in a quiet semi rural location just 1 mile from The Maes Manor hotel which makes my location idea for people attending functions at the hotel.
  • Jeff is an incredibly welcoming host; I felt right at home and nothing was too much effort. His house is in a lovely quiet location right near the Oakdale Business Parks and has plenty of parking space. Freya the spaniel was an added bonus. I’d happily recommend this AIRBNB to anyone.
