“People have been worshiping at Ripon cathedral for over 1350 years. Founded as a monastery in 660ad by Scottish monks, it was refounded as Benediction by St Wilfrid in 672 and he is now buried near the High Altar. One of the misericords was reputed to be the inspiration of Alice through the Looking Glass for Lewis Caroll who was a canon here. Free to enter, it is a magnificent building not to be missed.”
“The Curzon cinema in Ripon is small but perfectly formed! Screen 1, with 58 seats and Screen 2 with just 38, show a range of films from current blockbusters to 'arty flicks' from foreign parts, together with 'live streamed' concerts, ballets and operas from venues around the world. There is a small bar serving refreshments and a very friendly and knowledgable staff ready to serve and help you. How did Ripon manage before the Curzon arrived?”
