Places to stay in Rockingham County
Elevated 900 sq ft space with vaulted ceiling and 500 sq ft of wrap-around deck in the treetops. 3 bedrooms (2 Queens + full-size futon which is 6" narrower than a Queen and therefore definitely a bit tight for 2 adults) and 2 full bathrooms. Adjacent to National Forest land and just 40 miles from the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and Skyline Drive. Our home is within the Bryce Resort - offering (in season) golf, mountain biking, zipline, and lake with beach, kayaks/canoes
This is the “treehouse” of my childhood dreams, and I know you’ll enjoy it too. As you can see in our photos, the Treehouse has a wrap around deck which is 500 sq ft and offers peace and quiet. We have lots of tables and chairs on the deck for bird/critter watching, eating, playing cards, etc. There is outdoor lighting on the deck. Please note: Because the house sits at tree top level, we advise against young children as guests. The main room has a vaulted ceiling and a wall of windows making it feel like you are living in the treetops. The windows look out onto the deck and into the trees making the home feel like more than just 900 sqft. We have three separate bedrooms and two baths. Two of the bedrooms have a queen bed. The third bedroom has a new full-size futon; this room has a TV and DVD player (no cable or satellite). The master bedroom has an attached bath. All of your linens and towels are provided. There is a washer/dryer and a dishwasher. Due to the extremely hilly terrain, cell phone service is sketchy. We can typically (but not always) get signal from Verizon to allow voice calls, but other cell data connectivity is spotty at best. The home does not have cable/wifi, but the Resort Clubhouse does. The kitchen has plenty of dishes, pots and pans. We have a coffee maker, a George Foreman Grill, and a pancake griddle. The fridge, oven, and microwave are in very good shape. We have 2 driveways, one on each side of the house. Both are steep and narrow and require that you turn around at the top. Please do NOT attempt to back down. The first 40' of the steepest (and most convenient) drive is paved so it's entirely manageable with most any vehicle. If you utilize the other (totally unpaved) driveway, you need to drive up in a SLOW and STEADY manner to prevent spin-outs and tearing up the driveway. It is not feasible to accommodate a large RV, towable trailer, boat, or such at the treehouse. Parking more than 1 vehicle per driveway is nearly certain to require some vehicle jockeying. If you would like to book the Treehouse, we ask that you tell us a little about yourself either by completing the Profile section of your Airbnb account or within your Inquiry to book. We've been on Airbnb since 2014. We hope you'll read our profile. Please note a few house rules: - There is no grill and no grilling is allowed on the deck. - No smoking on the property. - The small loft is solely for storage and is not for guest use. - The fireplace is not for guest use. It is not in working condition. - No pets please.
Our home is located within the Bryce Resort community. The resort is NOT a gated community and is very much on the low-key end of the spectrum (as we prefer), so - while not "fancy" - it is very quiet and yet still has a very nice variety of activities. Visit the Bryce Resort website for information on golf, mountain biking, a zipline and more. There are specific days/hours of operation and reservations may be required for these activities; please check the Bryce website to see fees and schedule. Lake Laura has a 3 mile walking trail that is open to the public year-round for free (can also serve as an easy-to-moderate mountain bike trail). For a small fee during the summer, Lake Laura offers beach access and kayak/canoe/paddle boat rental (check Bryce Resort website for summer schedule). The "town" of Basye is really just the resort. There is a clubhouse restaurant/bar. Just outside the resort, there is a brewhouse/restaurant, ice cream stand, and a very small market and gas station. Mt. Jackson is 11 miles away and offers a full grocery, State liquor store. Woodstock is a 30-minute drive and has most everything including a Lowe's, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, etc. Zoom out on the map in the listing to see some suggested points of interest. The resort is very hilly. We enjoy long walks for great exercise. I enjoy biking within the resort, but it is very strenuous due to the hills.
  • Just a great place overall from the fact that it’s a TREEHOUSE to all the personal touches and information to explore the surrounding areas. Even on the rainy days we had board games and movies to watch. Just a cozy place with everything you need and a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking!

  • The stay at the treehouse was incredible! We loved relaxing for our 2 night stay and exploring the town around us. The guest book and the binder put together by Mark was amazing. I also loved that there were basic needs in the house like soap, shampoo, toilet paper, spices, etc. Loved the DVD collection that was available for us to binge watch Simpson’s at night while we relaxed inside since it was colder. The wild life was awesome around the treehouse too. The first driveway was paved halfway up and my 2019 Toyota Corolla was able to make it up with ease. We didn’t attempt the back driveway because the top was significantly more convenient for us with no steps. Mark was very communicative about the stay also. We already have our next trip booked! PS. Don’t hike Orkney spring trail off alum spring rd. We couldn’t pass through the main road to Marks recommended spot because of a downed tree and found this trail. It was a 35% grade and was super hard despite what all trails said. I’m still sore today. Lol! If you do decide to, only go to the view point. The super steep treck to the top brings you to the peek in the middle of the woods with no view. Wasn’t worth it.

  • Mark and Linda are great hosts! I had a great time at their tranquil treehouse. It is everything it is described as and more. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • What a special and beautiful place this is, and at such a reasonable price! The location is gorgeous and the treehouse is both a great place to hang out and a wonderful base from which to explore the area. This is our second time---we'll be back! And Mark makes the process very easy and smooth.

  • Wow! This place is truly amazing...loved everything about it. It felt very homey, cozy, and was sparkling clean. I was so happy that the heating worked because it got a bit chilly at night. I can't wait to come back and see what it looks like during winter and spring! Highly recommend!

  • The place is beautiful and very peaceful.

    Anthony2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting in the trees. The cabin is interesting in design and has everything you could need. Lots of space for a small setting. WiFi would be nice since there is limited cell coverage.

What Past Guests Are Saying: "First of all, no way was I expecting the chalet to have everything you needed. I was going to put it to the test. You PASSED. Everything you can imagine you would need, is there. Second, I was skeptical about having privacy or peace and quiet. It was so quiet a pin drop would be too loud. Absolutely private and quiet, we felt very safe. Third, My Husband said jesh, this is cleaner than most hotels we've stayed at. Overall we gave it "11" we will be back." -Gary and Sue V. "Lynn, Well we just got back and the first thing I had to do was e-mail you and let you know what a terrific time we had. I contacted you in hopes of finding somewhere we could get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and we got just that. Your Chalet is absolutely amazing, it was exactly what the doctor ordered. From the moment we arrived to the saddened departure it was absolutely the best time we have had in a very long time. Your directions were exact and everything worked out exactly as planned. There was nothing better than sitting on the front deck with a glass of wine listening to nothing for a change, it was The touches of home did nothing but add to that feeling and it was amazing. Thank you from both of us for allowing us to stay at your wonderful get away, I can absolutely assure you that we will be contacting you again soon many times. Finally again thank you very much we had an amazing weekend, if you EVER consider selling your property PLEASE let me know, seriously there is not a place in the world that can fulfill exactly what we were looking for like yours did." -Nick A. "What a wonderful place! I have now stayed here twice and can't wait to go back. The chalet is in a perfect location nestled in the hills and not far from great hiking, restaurants and adventure. Whether a long weekend or a week, well worth it!" -Guest Review from erik "I just wanted to leave you an email that I forgot to send a long time ago. My girlfriend and I went up there the weekend of July 21st just to get away for the weekend. What she didnt know is that after having a wonderful day horseback riding and enjoying downtown Luray I was going to propose to her. So at sunset after a wonderful dinner I proposed to her on your deck of the chalet. We had a wonderful time, loved the location, loved the chalet and would definitely go back. Thank you again!" -Jeff B. "Just right!!! We have rented many cabins in many different areas. This cabin was just right. It felt very much like home. Some cabins are too rustic, or have to many unnecessary luxuries. This cabin, met in the middle, I did not pay extra for things I did not need, and yet was very comfortable." -Len and Ri from Longwood FL "Wonderful cabin, great price! Everything you need in this nice little cabin get-away. Surrounded by woods and wildlife. Great quite place to get away, enjoy nature, see deer, and take pictures. They had everything you could think of from dishes & coffee to DVD movies. Highly recomended. Great price. Only minutes from Skyline Drive and many caverns." -Guest Review from JGdesigner "My fiance and I spent Halloween weekend in your cabin. It was beautiful! I was impressed with how stocked the place is. it was just like being at home! We visited Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive while in the area, and the cabin was convenient to both. We just wanted to thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We hope to return soon!" -Tanika M. "Nice getaway. This chalet was exactly as described. The location was beautiful and the house was clean and very affordable. Thanks for the hiking suggestions as it was too warm for skiing. Lots to do in nearby Luray too." -Guest Review from kreay "Perfect and affordable Place to Get-A-Way from the Hussle and Bussle. We have stayed at the Chalet twice and just love it. The price is right and the house is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. We have used it as a get-a-way in the winter to leave the hectic pace of DC and love that there's no cable, internet, or cell phone coverage... we bring dvd's, lots of food and drink, hike during the day and cook and relax at night. This past trip, we hit a couple of close wineries, which was just a perfect touch. Highly Recommend!" -Guest Review from dmiller "Wonderful vacation in the historic Shenandoah. Being a Virginian any chance to travel the Shenandoah Valley is a pleasure. Rarely, due to work schedules, have my wife an I been able to stay for more than a day or two. This time I had seven whole days. I believe this was the first site that I visited yet it seemed to have all that I was looking for to relax and explore in detail parts of the Valley. Where else but among the folks of the valley could you arrive and check in with such ease. The setting is as beautiful as described with a wonderful view of the mountains saying good night at sunset and to awaken us at sunrise. The chalet was a delight with every thing we would need. Even phone service was provided since cell service is spotty at best. Being from the Washington area the last thing we needed was blaring media news. We came to the Shenandoah to get away from that. We used the chalet as a base camp to explore from Waynesboro to Winchester. Seven days of perfect weather did not hamper things while hiking the Skyline but even a steady rain would have been fun here. This is a great place inhabited by wonderful people. We will be back. We really did not want to leave today. Regards, Wilson F. Gaithersburg, MD." -Guest Review from urspider68 "Thank you very much for your help with the cabin last weekend. We had a very nice time, the skiing was great, and the beds were very comfortable (after skiing, that is important!). So thank you very much and have a great weekend!" -Nathanael "Wonderful winter getaway. Myself and a couple of girlfriends spent a weekend at the chalet. What I liked about it was that they had comfortable furnishings and yet felt like it belonged in the woods. It was quiet and peaceful. When looking for a place what stood out about the chalet was that we would be able to walk to a hiking trail within Shenandoah - and we did that while we were there. I would definitely go back again and would recommend it." -K. A. from Globe Trekker "I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know we had a pleasant stay at your cabin. The place was very clean and you thought of everything we need in the kitchen and bathroom. It was nice and relaxing to come back to such a nice place after our ski trip. This was a memorable Christmas for our family. We would definitely like to go back in the future." -Yunhui & Family "We had a most pleasant time at your Shenandoah chalet the past week. The accommodations/facilities were superb. We had a peaceful and quiet vacation and the weekday cost to rent was very fair. We also visited Massanutten Ski area for some snowtubing, Hiking to Rapidan Hoover Camp in Shenandoah National Park, The Mt. Powell hiking trails near your chalet, and on the way back home, we visited Montpelier - home of James Madison. Thank you for the opportunity to rent your most wonderful vacation home! We plan to rent your chalet again in the future. We look forward til the next time." -Pio G. "Lovely, quiet refuge from the craziness of urban life! This chalet is quiet, comfortable, and outfitted with everything we needed for a lovely long summer weekend. We had two teenaged boys with us, and they loved sharing the loft upstairs, away from us adults in the bedroom on the first floor. The chalet was outfitted with all the cookware we needed to prepare several different kinds of meals. The bathroom is roomy, clean, and came with plenty of towels for all of us. We enjoyed the quiet of sitting on the decks, sipping our morning coffees or just reading in peace and stillness. Overall, a delightful rental property, and we would request it again in a heartbeat." -Cynde from Oak Hill, VA "I wanted to send you a note and thank you for a wonderful stay at your cabin. We really enjoyed our vacation. You have a lovely cabin! I even saw some hummingbirds at your flowers outside and found a four leaf clover in the front yard. I miss it already! It is so peaceful there. ... Hope to stay again." -Jennifer B. "Just wanted to let you know we had a great time at your chalet. It was the most relaxing vacation we have every had. You had the place stocked with everything needed. It was just like being at home. I had brought things from home and you already had them there. The view of the mountains was spectacular. We will definitely be renting it again." -Wanda and John B. "Just a quick note to say that we had another awesome experience at the Chalet. The ability to unplug from cell phones, emails, and the constant news cycle so prevalent in DC just multiplies the relaxation factor... we are vowing not to let 3 years pass again before returning and maybe stay when the weather is a little warmer, even though the 6-8 inches of snow on Thursday was so beautiful and the perfect addition to the fire in the fireplace and the Christmas carols on the Ipod! (Not to mention the glass of wine in hand!) And I can't remember the last time that I started and finished a booked in 3-4 days! Our best to you and Steve for a wonderful holiday and a very happy New Year!" -David M. "Just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our stay in the chalet. Everything was perfect and sitting on the deck, listening to the birds and the wind in the trees, was heaven. And I have to say that we've never rented a condo or cabin as well equipped as yours - just wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks for sharing." -Ann D. "We had a wonderful time in your cabin. It was so attractively and comfortably furnished. We loved watching the sun set behind the mountain from the deck and watching the resident rabbit nibbling on the grass in the back." -Alice S. "We absolutely LOVED our stay. What a lovely cabin! Thank you for making us feel so comfortable and pampered. Having pancakes with fresh maple syrup and delicious coffee while looking out at the beautiful mountains will be one of my favorite memories. We will definitely be recommending your beautiful cabin to our families and friends. Thanks you so much for everything!" -Christine C. "Our stay at the chalet was lovely, thank you. It was comfortable, extremely well appointed, and the little touches of hospitality (pancake mix and firewood) were much appreciated. I would definitely recommend the chalet to others." -J.M. "We had the most wonderful time in the cabin over the weekend. My mother and I absolutely loved it-- both the breathtaking views and the very comfortable interior. We hope to come back!" -Natalia B. "The cottage was great. We had a wonderful time.... We are both mountain folks by heart just not location, so it was nice to get away for a while." -Julie S. "Just got home and wanted to send you an email letting you know that Monica and I had wonderful weekend at your Chalet. It was so relaxing, and we fell in love with your place. We most certainly will be visiting again. It was fantastic!!!!" -John and Monica "I just wanted to thank you for the days that we spent at your chalet. We had a very good time and it was exactly what we were looking for. Everything was perfect! Hopefully we'll be back soon." -Hernan "Everything was superb - the linens, bed, nice couch, wonderful magazines, nice landscaping, grill, views. we spent a lot of time out on the deck, reading and just enjoying the remote-ness and beauty. thanks again." -Lalong "Just a thank you for allowing us the privilege of enjoying the hospitality of your chalet. The pancake mix was a great addition to our mornings on the panoramic deck. It was a wonderful weekend for us both and are planning a return trip sometime later. Take care and thanks again for a most enjoyable stay in the mountains." -Melissa and Daniel "Your Chalet was absolutely fabulous. My wife and I could not have asked for a more cozy place for our anniversary. The bay window sealed the deal, its going to be hard for me to top this next year. Thank you again." -Aaron W. "Just wanted to drop a quick note to say we had a fabulous time and your chalet is beautiful! thanks a bunch!" -Jamie "My uncle, Harry Robinson, rented your cabin this past weekend for my sister, her husband, my husband and me. We are from NC and since he was married Sunday, he wanted us to be close by. (His house is also on Overlook Mountain Road) We really enjoyed our stay in your chalet. My husband and I stayed in the loft and loved the openness of it and enjoyed the deck. Once we arrived Friday night, we didn't leave Overlook Mountain Road until Sunday morning!" -Lori "I wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our stay at your cabin. My wife and I were both due for a much needed getaway from our jobs and your cabin made a nice home base for sightseeing around the area and the park." -Jim Z. "Truly wonderful experience, especially for our honeymoon! Our stay was amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better cabin or a better location. It was great to get away and not have to worry about a thing." -Heather from Cumberland, MD "Lil Chalet in the woods. Very comfy, was heated and warm when we arrived at 2am. Keys were exactly where we were told we would find them. Very nice for 2 couples wanting to get away from it all. Kitchen was excellent for cooking, very comfy bedding." -Sandy from Levittown PA "My fiance and I were here for a week and loved it. Price is very good, clean, open space." -Ramish from Chicago "Romantic and Relaxing. The Shenandoah Chalet is a place we'd like to retire to... cozy, comfortable, and clean. I forgot peaceful - really peaceful. We enjoyed our entire experiences, our pancake breakfasts, our hikes, our all-night game of scrabble. It's going back to simpler times without shopping, traffic or craziness. When can we move in?" -Jackie & family from Rockville, MD "Excellent getaway choice near Shenandoah National Park. The Shenandoah Chalet is a very good choice as a home base for exploring the Shenandoah Valley or the National Park. Many other interesting places to explore are nearby, with Charlottesville and Monticello about an hour away. The chalet is situated a few miles from the Western park border northeast of Elkton Virginia and convenient to Skyline Drive and, further South, the Blue Ridge Parkway. Although some might see it as a disadvantage, the Chalet is rather isolated, well off the beaten path several miles off Highway 340. However, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet when not out sightseeing. The Shenandoah Chalet is perfect for a quiet getaway and would easily accomodate 3-4 people. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen with a great variety of cooking utensils. The loft bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed and the small downstairs bedroom could accomodate another person or couple. The owners were very helpful, answering our email questions very promptly. Highly recommended!" -Boilermaker_91 from Oxford, Indiana "Romantic anniversary getaway. The cabin was incredible, The morning view when you wake up is breath taking. We enjoyed it very very much." -Happy Hearts from Richmond, VA "Pre-Baby Get away. My wife and I rented the Chalet while my was pregnant just as a getaway before my son came. The cabin is very charming and we had everything that we needed. There is an awesome view from the front of the cabin. Further, you can hear the nearby stream in the background. A very picturesque setting. I would definitely recommend this to anyone as a quiet getaway in the hills." -Zee from Silver Spring, MD "The cabin was really peaceful and easy to find, spending three nights there after our wedding in the area. We explored nearby swimming holes and flea markets and had a wonderful stay." -Leia P. "Wonderful cabin. Exactly as described. Even with the huge storm that moved through we didn't lose power unlike the neighboring town. which was great. Would recommend to anyone." -Frank C. "Just as advertised. I would recommend to a friend." -David N. "What a beautiful place! Stunning house and we had a very peaceful and relaxing stay. The house has everything you need and the directions make it easy to find. Lovely." -Laura F. "Great cabin and an enjoyable stay. Thanks!" -Jiasi C. "The place was very clean and cozy. It is in a really good location if you are interested in visiting Shenandoah National Park." -Lauren B. "My girlfriend and I had a wonderful, relaxing time this past weekend. The cabin had everything, all we had to bring was ourselves and food. I definitely recommend anyone who is interested in getting away for the weekend to stay here." -James B. "Very clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Beautiful setting. Everything we needed was there: towels, utensils, etc. We are very light sleepers and this chalet was very quiet. Nice appliances in the kitchen." -Catherine W. "Hi Lynn, I just wanted to thank you for the use of your cabin this past weekend. We had an amazing time. It was exactly as described on your website and completely lived up to my expectations. We all had a great bonding experience which was precisely what I had hoped for. Thanks again, Jessie N." • Such a perfect, quaint get away. The window in the A-Frame is the perfect view to wake up to. I never wanted to get out of bed.

  • Lovely, quiet space! Definitely would go back again.

    Carolynn2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin and a great location to get away from the city into nature. It's a short drive to the nearby town of Elkton, which has a nice coffee shop and other fun stores/restaurants. Lynn was friendly and quick to reply to questions. Overall, would recommend!

    Ryan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a charming chatlet near Shenandoah! Very clean! A great place to stay for a couple nights!

    Keenan2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, tidy , comfy bed with super soft sheets. Lots of kitchen facility for cooking. Great verandah for star gazing. The only noise we could hear was the cows mooing and the birds chirping.... and of course, at the bottom of the hill is Naked Creek flowing quietly on its way to the Shenandoah River. I highly recommend this cosy place if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle and need quiet time and peace. Real Zen head stuff. Bring what you need to to eat and drink as the shops are quite a distance away. Take a walk or drive up to the top of overlook mountain. The views are spectacular.

  • I spent a few days with some friends at Lynn's mountain cabin to celebrate New Years 2020 and had a blast. The space is about an hour from Harrisonburg and Charlottesville with Massanutten about 20 minutes away. The cabin is secluded enough to feel out in the woods without being completely in the middle of nowhere, and has one of the best equipped kitchens we've seen in an AirBNB. The beds were comfortable and the loft has a great view out over the mountains. All in all a great value and a good time.

    Ross2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time at Lynn's house! She was extremely attentive and responsive to our messages, and the directions she provided on how to get around were so helpful. Data and cell signal for major providers do not work in or around the cabin, so the free wifi is helpful as well. We were looking for a secluded getaway however, so it worked out for us! Also she has every pot and pan you could imagine, was able to cook a full dinner every night we stayed there!

    Shalini2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cabin great for a getaway. Easy access to Shenandoah and the kitchen is remarkably well-equipped. Our time at Lynn’s was wonderful.

Welcome to Old Hill Cider House! Located just steps away from the first row of Summer Rambo Apple Trees at Showalter's Orchard. The thoughtful renovation was just completed in early July. The former wash house could be a base for all your Shenandoah Valley Travels or this light airy and romantic little house is a comfortable and cozy place for your farm vacation. The kitchen is small but has all the basics, one queen bed, one bath. We look forward to making your acquaintance.
The cider house is a separate outbuilding fashioned from the farm's original wash house. The cottage is light and airy with clerestory windows. Its views are exceptionally suited to take in the vistas in each direction of apple trees as far as you can see to the west and of the Shenandoah Valley to the East. Just a few steps from the doorstep you'll be standing in the oldest part of our orchard. Enjoy exploring the rows and rows of trees. If you are visiting during apple or peach harvest season, we offer pick your own apples and peaches. Your ciderhouse kitchen is ready with everything you need to prepare your meals or even better to make your apple or peach pie with fruit that you just picked. You'll find our favorite recipe for apple pie on the kitchen counter. If your visit happens to be when the bounty of the vegetable garden is ready, please help yourself. It too is right outside your door. This peaceful and private place is also perfect to relax and rejuvenate and watch your favorite Roku programming or take advantage of all its natural light to read to your heart's content. A brick patio under the canopy of enormous oak trees is available along with a fire pit and firewood to sit outside and enjoy looking at the stunning view while you sip a glass of cider. The production facility and tasting room for Old Hill Cider is on the premises. Enjoy a complimentary tasting for two while you're here.
  • I purchased this stay for a family member for Christmas and they absolutely loved every minute of their stay! Here is their review of the trip: "Our weekend Old Hill Cider House was amazing! What an absolutely adorable cottage Sarah has created on her beautiful orchard property. If you can’t relax there, you can’t relax anywhere! Had a great time tasting their hard ciders and surveying of the grounds, and also venturing in to the tiny little village of New Market and down to Harrisonburg. I hope to make it back to the Old Hill Cider House again!" Thanks so much for making this weekend getaway wonderful for my family! They can't wait to come back again sometime!

    Alixandra2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s orchard farm is amazing! We loved our stay in the cute little guest house - it was warm and inviting yet very romantic! We did the cider tasting and Kristy was a doll. We love the people on this farm and will returning soon (but not soon enough)

    Alexis2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful time at the orchard. The space was beautiful, staff were friendly, and the furry friends snuggly. Great location for exploring the mountains and surrounding towns.

    Bianca2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's place is the perfect spot for a little get away. It was just as described and depicted and met all of our needs and then some. Very clean, quaint, quiet, relaxing, and welcoming. Checking in couldn't have been easier and communication with Sarah was easy and super helpful. Sarah's place is located off of country roads, in a very accessible location, just a short trip to Skyline Drive, Luray Caverns, etc. The cottage sits on an orchard with easy access to the on-premise Cidery. Their hard cider was delicious (much different and better than an Angry Orchard cider) and they offer quite the variety, I definitely recommend anyone that stays here to pop in for a drink around sunset time - great views of the mountains and the orchard.

    Jason2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah was an incredible, gracious host. Her cabin is perfect for a lazy day in, and is extremely comfortable. She made sure to be very accommodating, and gave us any necessities we requested immediately! Due to our own sheer laziness there were a few things we didn't have or bother asking for, but I have no doubts she would have retrieved them for us if we had simply asked. Honestly, her cottage was everything we could have wished for and more! It was a beautiful place to reset. Also, the cider was delicious!!

    Paige2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cider house is an absolutely darling place to stay. Very clean and comfortable, and with an excellent view of the area. Sarah is very responsive and helpful. Can’t recommend enough.

    Emily2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect for a relaxing get-away. The views and environment are breathtaking and the house itself is very well kept. We enjoyed seeing the cat and dogs roaming around and there were plenty of things to do in the area. Highly recommend this Airbnb!

    David2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous views, adorable home, 10/10 would recommend for a long weekend or weekday stay. Perfect for those wanting to explore the Shenandoah national park!

Come unwind in our exclusive tree house getaway, nestled amongst pine trees. Take a short walk to enjoy the river.
This 400 sq. ft. treehouse includes a walnut spiral staircase, salvaged barn beams, a marble tile shower, and a gas fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with a two-person bar, gas stove + oven, hammered copper sink, refrigerator, microwave, kettle + french press, and basic utensils. The loft bedroom includes a queen bed with elegant bedding, skylight views, and a hanging chair for reading. The bathroom includes a marble tile shower with hot water, a hammered copper sink, and fresh white towels. Enjoy lovely views from the porch with the sight of the river. Unwind with a hot bath in a two-person tub on the deck. Be aware the treehouse is in the trees so bugs will be present especially in the evening. We have complimentary natural bug spray and candles. It's best to leave the lights off on the porch at night so bugs won't join your porch party. The treehouse is located on our 5-acre property. It is NOT deep in secluded woodland. It is 70 ft. from the road and 200 ft. away from our home. It is 16 ft. off the ground so height is in your favor for seclusion. There are appropriate window treatments on all windows. You may be visited by our dogs or cat. Our two Jack Russell's, Daisy and Cooter, love to say hello to anyone who comes on the property. The gate at the top of the stairs is to keep our furry friends away. We prefer if you keep them off the deck so they won’t beg to be let in. However, Mable, the cat, is capable of climbing the gate. Let us know if we need to come to retrieve her. This treehouse was relocated due to waterway regulations. It is now farther from the river but on the same property. You will still have river views and river access.
  • Joshua and Hope’s treehouse was more than amazing! The views were beautiful, the location was relaxing, and the memories we made will last a life time! Everything was absolutely perfect.

    Katie2019-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • As avid treehouse travelers, we feel we've found the best one yet! The space is inviting and thoughtful - every detail considered. The sounds of the river provide a peaceful setting, along with the visits from all types of birds. This place is a little slice of heaven on earth!

    Andrew2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had read several reviews before booking this treasure but now I have experienced it, no words can describe how special the Joshua tree house really is. The hosts were responsive, friendly and made this visit easy. The Joshua tree house is made with LOVE. Every little detail was well thought out. The only time my wife and I left was when we had to eat dinner, and it was hard to leave the property. It was the most relaxing weekend I have ever had. Joshua and Hope give you everything you need, and more. Leaving was so hard. We both cried knowing how special the weekend was staying at such a special place. The weather was rainy, but being inside, birdwatching from the deck, listening to the river didn’t stop us from enjoying this weekend. Thank you for sharing this with people Joshua and Hope. This is truly a treasure, gem and diamond in a rough. We will be coming back to stay here 1-2 times a year, hands down. I wouldn’t change one thing about the hosts and the property. It was just perfect. I would recommend it to everyone

    Jaimie2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • We thought we would really like this place, but didn’t realize how much we’d really LOVE it until we stayed for a night. We were just so amazed at the high level of craftsmanship in every detail of the treehouse. The decor and small touches were lovely and thoughtful, and the setting was so peaceful by the river. Sitting on the porch drinking French press coffee was all the *entertainment* we needed, but there’s reliable WiFi, too. Super easy process and communication from booking to check in/check out. You will not regret your stay here!

    Marcia2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • I have been telling everyone to stay here. Beautiful place

    Heather2019-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very special place! Highly recommend.

    Emily2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Joshua and Hope's treehouse is a little slice of paradise! From the moment we pulled up, we were blown away! From the sound of the rushing water in the creek to the beautiful decor and the multiple outdoor living spaces to enjoy the view, we couldn't have imagined a better location or home for a weekend getaway. We are already trying to figure out when we could come back - we didn't want to leave! I would definitely recommend the Joshua Treehouse to couples who are looking for a peaceful retreat in the Shenandoah Valley.

    Haley2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • I usually don’t do reviews but this one deserves it. It was a wonderful and perfect 3 night getaway. The space was lovely and romantic. Super clean and well loved. The homemade granola, bath salts and chocolate bar from the hosts was a nice added touch. The treehouse is also well stocked with basic items in the kitchen which was convenient. We enjoyed every aspect of the treehouse. From the great decor inside, nice kitchen, great bathroom and shower, the two outside sitting areas with wonderful river views and the campfire area. We also especially enjoyed the soaking tub on the deck. It was so relaxing after a day of hiking, sightseeing and kayaking. The only small issue we had was the WiFi would not work our first day but Hope went in and fixed it for us on the second day while we were out exploring for the day. From then on the WiFi worked well and fast. If you’re looking for a great getaway you should absolutely book this place. We had so much fun we didn’t want to leave!

  • I enjoyed my stay it was peaceful. Enjoyed the random dog running around who came to say hey. It was a great place to relax. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel feel, this isn’t for you. It is still clean and comfortable, but mainly it’s for relaxing.

    Jennifer2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome views and trails to explore. Near a bunch of great wineries and places to eat. Cool sauna and pool area to take advantage of 👌🏻😃

    Shaun2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house was a great and unique get away. Small and quaint, but stylish and great for a couples get away. Enjoyed meeting others nearby and would definitely go again. Had a wonderful time and the host was great

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and the property felt like an adult playground. There were so many things to explore both around the property and in the common areas. Will definitely return in the future.

    Jazmina2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay in the treehouse at White Lotus. The sense of exploration the communal space provides is intoxicating. The woodstove-fired sauna located down a catwalk into the woods, complete with the cool dip pool, is a fantastic experience. Met cool people. Cooked a big meal in a fabulous shared kitchen space. Hosts were super communicative and helpful. Room was unique, clean, comfortable, and memorable. Already planning a return trip soon.

    Laura2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I love how it’s a little (only 5 miles) off the beaten track. The treehouse is a great concept. The wood burning sauna and dipping pool is awesome! There is a great public kitchen to use and a number of outside gas grills to use.

    Edward2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This quaint home on stilts is beautiful. As described, you will have your own room overlooking the grounds. Connected to everything you need, your bedroom (and bathroom) will have everything you need. We took advantage of the sauna, swing underneath the room, and a stroll along the skywalks. There are some quirky items (you can feel the home move a little, the shower is a bit finiky on temperature control). But these added to the experience. I mean, who can say they’ve showered in a treehouse? Communication was thorough, place was clean, all needs were met and then some. Would stay again.

  • I was traveling to Shenandoah Valley for work and had the pleasure of staying in Ardith’s AirBnB. From the day of booking through check-in, Ardith was super communicative. The AirBnB is nestled right next to the main house with a great view of the sunrise. There were many thoughtful touches throughout the suite including water and snacks. These were especially welcoming after a long day of travel/work. Lastly, it’s a short drive to shops and food which is key. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to everyone!

  • “Tiny Home takes Big Place in Our Hearts.” This was our first tiny home experience and we are in love. The space was clean, well planned and decorated to perfection. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere we’ve stayed before. Sustainability is felt throughout and is supported by the rustic aesthetic and design. The open and green landscape of the surrounding farms can be seen from every angle through the walls of windows. We loved waking up to the sheep and being able to watch the family care for them. Nathan even encouraged us to come out and called in the herd for us to meet. Their sweetest puppy giving us love was also a plus. I booked this weekend stay for my partner and I over the coldest weekend of the year and was nervous about the heat situation. Don’t be scared! We were plenty warm and cozy with the stove, portable heater (provided) and plush linens. Despite having 19 degrees as the high all weekend, we had an amazing time, at home and within the community. The area has plenty to do; farmers markets, caverns, trails and hiking, breweries and shopping. We loved everything about this home and would recommend to any and everyone thinking about taking a weekend trip. Thank you, Lindsay and Nathan!

  • Genuinely the best 2 day vacation I've ever had. The private driveway is very rocky and a little narrow, but even my 2010 toyota prius could handle it. However, if you care about your car's paint job, you may want to use a rental car for this trip. The cabin was very clean, kitchen was much more well stocked than I'd expected and the fireplace in the living room made the whole place very warm and cozy. Overall 10/10 would reccomend and will definitely be back again to enjoy it in the summertime

    Scarlett2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What an awesome weekend we had at Olivia’s place! The view is breathtaking! We enjoyed cooking meals in the fully equipped kitchen and the grill outside, playing board games that are in the house, watching movies in front of the fire place and drinking coffee and wine on the deck, taking in the beauty of the surrounding nature, we had lots of birds, small and large, “join us” on the deck! This place is very secluded, and did I mention the view? We decided to spend our entire time at the house, taking in the view and enjoying the quiet place together.

    Seger2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this location with our 2 pups for a nice Valentine's weekend if relaxation. We arrived very late at night but Olivia's directions and self check-in information made it a breeze to arrive and get in. The views are spectacular. There is a peacful feeling being up so high in the mountains. The cabin was very cozy and had everything you would need for a stay including lots of games, dvds and a fully stocked kitchen. One thing that the listing doesnt empathize on is how Dog Friendly it is! There was a giant dog bed, a basket of toys and extra dog bowls. It was a really nice added bonus. Our dogs loved looking out the windows over the valley. The fire place was amazing and very easy to use. It helped warm up the room very quickly. We had a great time and now my husband wants to buy a property near by. Lol. Thank you Olivia!

    Jessica2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home with beautiful views. Super clean and Olivia was very responsive. If you visit here, make sure you wake up to see the stunning sunrise views

    Ibrahim2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • The views at this place were spectacular! We stayed during the winter and were even treated to about a half-inch of snow on our second day - really couldnt ask for much more!

    Chris2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place fulfills all your expectations and more. You have wonderful views of God's creation along with the amenities where you don't have to leave the cabin for the entirety of your stay! Would go back in a heartbeat!

    Emily2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This home has the most beautiful mountain views we have ever seen! It was breathtaking! Sitting in front of the fire was one of our favorite spots. The bed was extremely comfortable as well. It is the perfect romantic getaway! It's very private and quiet but also has great wifi. Olivia thought of every little amenity. It was extremely cold in January, but the heaters kept the place toasty warm. She had plenty of fire wood and starter logs there for us and lots of kitchen appliances. We cooked almost every night. It was perfect! I highly recommend Olivia's place!

    Erick2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was absolutely beautiful. We used the fireplace every single day, it was definitely the thing I loved the most. The kitchen was stocked so well we actually packed a bunch of things we didn’t need because they were provided. There were tons of games and movies to keep us occupied. Culin also made tons of great recommendations locally. He was very easy to reach and helpful. Truly a beautiful place to stay we had a great time.

    Nelda2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a great place to get away, Culin's place is fantastic! The location is wonderful - close to Shenandoah (we were able to go for a great hike) as well as Luray Caverns. The house itself is beautiful and so pleasant to stay in. We had a great time using the grill and the fireplace. Definitely planning on a return trip if we can. One thing to note is that the driveway is no joke - we got lucky that there was no ice/snow, but if there had been, our compact rental car would not have been able to make it up the hill!

    Nora2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is exactly what we were looking for! It was a perfect getaway! It’s secluded up a gravel road with mountain views surrounded by trees. It’s got a wrap around deck and screened in porch that’s so cozy. The inside of the cabin is everything you need! The kitchen is fully stocked, plenty of games for adults and kids, and anything else you would need. The fireplace was our favorite part! Culin was an excellent host; he was so helpful and informative and always quick to respond with any questions we had. We can’t wait to plan another getaway there.

    Gina2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very private and cozy spot. Host is quick to respond. Would love to visit again!

    Elizabeth2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved it. Absolutely LOVED it. Had such a wonderful time looking at the Mountain views and visiting local shops and restaurants. The cabin was so cute and clean at the top and in a peaceful secluded area. 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a quiet getaway for a while !

    Alissa2020-01-28T00:00:00Z

Beautiful cabin in private mountain community, perched in the trees with mountain views and short walk to the Shenandoah River.
The "Treehouse" is an A-frame cabin sitting on a hillside, surrounded by trees. When you are sitting in the house or on its huge deck, it feels as if you are perched in the trees. It is a one-room cabin, with loft and large exterior deck. The first floor is an open area, with living room, full kitchen and eating area, and bathroom. The second floor is a loft, accessible by ladder. There is a double bed on the loft and two double futons and one single (kid-sized) futon on the main level. Linens and towels: We ask that guests bring linens, if they are able to do that easily. We do not have laundry facilities onsite, so doing laundry is a high cost we want to avoid having to pass onto guests (approx 2hours at laundromat @$20 hour and cost of laundromat approx $10). We do have sheets and towels available for those that need them — just let us know in advance and we will make sure to have them available for you.
The Treehouse is located in the "Shenandoah Gap" community on a private mountain in Shenandoah, VA. As a Treehouse guest, you have full access to the Shenandoah Gap river access area, as well as to all common areas of the mountain (i.e., trails accessible off the road).
  • What a cute space to spend the weekend with nature! Felt so homey and comfortable! It was a smooth drive to the Luray Caverns and the trails. The surprise amenities, like some cooking ingredients was a plus! I would definitely come back!

    Jonah2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy place in a great secluded spot. Plenty of games, books, and videos to stay entertained while off the grid. Property was just what I expected, a pleasant experience from previous rentals.

  • Beautiful scenery, really does feel like you are in a tree!

    Brittany2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very nice stay. It finds itself off a gravel road, in a place where the houses are few and far between. Creating a nice secluded feeling, the house itself looks pretty neat too. The place was very clean, and there is lots of stuff around for entertainment, books, movies, board games, a coloring book etc... I think one of are favorites was the hammock. All of the amenities work very well, the bathroom is also very nice. The loft area is amazing, great view when looking out the bay windows at the front of the cabin and a nice view looking into the woods behind the cabin. Overall an awesome place and was better than I had expected it to be :) thank you!!

    William2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to getaway. Would recommend to anyone that wants to spend time in the Shenandoah area! Sally was a great host and responded very quickly. Great weekend in the treehouse!

Cozy romantic couple's getaway repurposed from an historic 18th century water mill's cooperage (where barrel staves were built). Great for JMU & EMU parents weekend. Perfect for a honeymoon or babymoon! Covered deck overlooks the picturesque mill and water wheel, providing relaxing sounds from the creek. Located in the ghost village of Moore's Store, now surrounded by orchards and farms. Private yet convenient to wineries, breweries, ski resorts, hiking, caverns and rope adventures.
Open concept cabin with two sleeping areas (doors only in the bathroom) and a large deck to bring the creek sounds in. I raised my daughter here when we had no running water - just electricity. Now grown and with a family of her own, recent renovations were lovingly and imaginatively made to provide a comfortable place when visiting (and entice them to visit granny more often!). Filled with items salvaged from the mill such as grain chutes, mill auger, flour packer, pulleys and timber framing beams made from rare wormy chestnut that make this a creative and unique space to enjoy.
Quaker Thomas Moore was a surveyor and pioneer who settled the area, obtaining a large land grant from Lord Fairfax in the 1750s. Moore's Store was one of the first autonomous settlements in the Shenandoah Valley that centered around the merchant mill and also featured a sawmill, foundry, cobbler shop, doctor offices, harness shop, slave quarters and post office. General Custer burned the mill and family plantation home during the Civil War. A sawmill fire destroyed nearly the entire village in the 1870s. Moore's Store was named for descendant George Moore who died in the Civil War. Rebuilt twice, the grist mill and store operated under the Moore family for over 200 years until the 1930s when a dynamite accident claimed the life of the last miller, George Armentrout, who had married the widow of George Moore. Just a few houses now remain along with the mill, granary, cobbler's home, and harness shop. Neighbor's dog Malachi, who lives in the former doctor's home, is the unofficial mayor and might greet you when you arrive.
  • If you are looking for a quiet getaway in the woods...look no more!! This place is magical. I recommend bringing your own food to cook in her awesome kitchen because the nearest restaurants are at least 15 min away. Also, be sure to check out Showalters cidery for some amazing views! Thank you Joan!!!!

    Elinor2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Grist Mill exceeded all expectations and there were tons of great flea markets to check out in the area. Great food and beautiful scenic drives nearby. We never wanted to leave the cabin!

    Mariko2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Joan's place was truly special. Situated next to a lovely creek, the entire cabin had thoughtful touches and beautiful decor that instantly made us feel at home. Good location to relax and get away from it all (make sure to see the stars at night)! We will certainly be back again

    Catherine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peace, quiet, relaxation, the typical qualities you would hope to have on a sweet lil getaway. Joan’s place was amazing and even more beautiful in person. Would love to come back to see the greenery surrounding the property when it is warmer! Even in colder weather, though, the mill was so perfect.

    Alyssa2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely amazing! From the detail in the decor to the beautiful location on the creek. So much rich history and such a unique little cozy home. Couldn’t ask for a better space to escape for a weekend! Joan is a great host and her place is a home away from home.

    Kyle2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a must! Joan was a wonderful host and she has put so much heart and effort to make this place one of a kind. My husband and I were here for our baby-moon and we had one of the most relaxing getaway in months. Location to ski resorts and historic sites is great. I highly recommend this beautiful place.

    Bernice2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Joan is a phenomenal host! The cottage has a very artistic and vintage vibe that we loved. We would def stay again

    Caitlin2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for a quick getaway to escape the city and were so happy we chose the mill. Joan is a total sweetheart and the cottage was beyond cute, cozy and inviting. Though pretty cold during our trip, we still spotted plenty of birds (the heron was especially a treat). Like other reviewers, though, we were perfectly content to just curl up by the fireplace and enjoy the peace and warmth of this great place.

  • This apartment was cozy and felt very much like home. We didn’t spend much time on the grounds of the place, but it looked like a really great area to relax and unwind when the weather warms up a little. The hosts were very welcoming, and the welcome message on the door was a very thoughtful touch. The apartment itself is in a quiet neighborhood but is not far from downtown Harrisonburg. • Group of 9 family members visiting. Amazing amenities, very clean and spacious place. Nice recommendations from the host. We will be back, this was a great getaway. We ran into an issue with the internet and the host was super responsive and fixed for us. Thanks Culin for being an excellent host. I recommend catching sunrise or sunset from the balcony on this property.

  • Cullin’s cabin was really outstanding! We were happy to see the cabin was exactly as described in the pictures. It was an excellent space for a large group of people. There were plenty of amenities to keep us entertained even when the weather was not ideal. Although there are not lot of restaurants nearby, the kitchen is very large and well equipped. The only consideration to know before staying here would be the drive. During inclement weather, it would be incredibly difficult to reach the cabin without 4 wheel drive, but Cullin is very up-front about this before you arrive.

  • House was very clean with lots of space. Beautiful upstairs with a huge open kitchen and an amazing view from the balcony. Tons of space with room for both of my kids. I have a teen girl so the 3 bathrooms were amazing. The kitchen was stocked with everything gadget you could need and basic spices and condiments. It would have been great for younger kids as well with a tee-pee and play area for younger kids. We went tubing and skiing at Massanutten resort and it was about a 30 minute drive. I would highly recommend 4x4 vehicle as it is quite a steep driveway. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

  • Culin’s cabin is just lovely. My family and I had a wonderful time grilling, watching TV (great DVD collection!), and enjoying the outdoors. Culin was also very accommodating.

  • I travel to a lot of funky places and this place was by far the most charming. I watched ducks come and go on their pond from my bed. The stone work was amazing. Every nook and cranny was filled with little curiosities. The grounds are lovely and worthy of much exploration.

  • This was an amazing and beautiful getaway spot. Unbelievably, the pictures don’t do the experience justice - it is somehow even more lovely than the pictures? The bed was super comfortable, the grounds were lovely, everything was well-kept, and the instructions provided all the information needed to have a pretty independent and quiet stay. I hope I can come back soon.

  • Very quiet and relaxing at the cabin. Beautiful scenery all around

    Sara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great long weekend just getting away from reality so we could relax. The cabin had everything we needed aside from being quite cold the first night. The wall heaters couldn't keep up with the 13° low, and we couldn't get the woodstove to stay lit. After getting some fire starters and the temp rising some, we were as cozy as could be. We took 2 vehicles - a 4WD truck and 2WD SUV and had no issues getting either up to the cabin. I'd imagine rainy or snowy conditions could be a different story though. Overall, we had a great weekend and loved being able to bring our pups along. We hope to return this spring/summer.

  • This was my second time staying at the Little Cottage. It is so well located to the places that I was visiting in and around the area. It’s perfect for one or two people, and easily accessible from I-81, but in a very quiet neighborhood. I really appreciated the little touches like the coffee maker with extra coffee pods, teabags, creamers and sweetener packets. Doug is a wonderful host, and I hope to be able to stay there again on my next trip to the area.

Stream-side guest house with fantastic water view in lovely forest setting and steps away from trailhead to GW National Forest. Peaceful and private, this large 720 sq ft loft studio is a charming, comfy and secluded getaway. During the day go hiking or just relax on the deck overlooking the stream. At night open the windows and let soothing nature sounds lull you to sleep. Just 11 miles from Harrisonburg. Internet, Netflix. A meditative retreat and home base from which to explore the area.
CORONA VIRUS NOTE: Our loft is in a secluded natural location where one can, if desired, have little to no human contact. Our location greatly reduces the potential risk of community contagion of the Corona virus and enables one to easily practice social distancing. In an extra effort to provide the maximum protection to our guests, we ask that you bring your own set of queen-size bedsheets, blanket and your own towels. Not having to do laundry will give our housekeeper extra time to wipe down and sterilize all surfaces and to exercise every precaution to prevent exposure to the Corona virus. We appreciate your understanding of our efforts to protect you and our guests by providing a sanitized, sterile and safe living space. This secluded, second story loft/guesthouse (garage below) is accessed by a flight of stairs leading to a small deck overlooking the forest and beautiful stream. In the warm weather you can open the windows and hear the water rushing over the boulders. At the base of the stairs is another deck with a gas grill and a stair down to the lower property and the stream. The location is quite secluded and there is no traffic noise from rt. 33 which is almost a mile away. The loft is equipped with 2 burner hotplate, countertop oven, sink, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and necessaries for making and serving basic meals. Breakfast staples (eggs, bread, cereal, coffee, fruit, etc) included. High speed internet connected. Network channels, Netflix and Amazon on smart TV. Bathroom with stall shower. Smoke-free both inside the loft and on the grounds. Sorry, no pets of any kind. The space is set up to sleep two: See our other listing "Stream-side suite with private entrance/deck/bath" if traveling with friends and needing additional space). Check-in time is 2:00pm and Check-out time is 12:00 noon. IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to print driving and parking directions as some navigation systems have the last bit of our road mapped incorrectly! In the 1800's there was a destination resort hotel in Rawley Springs that was renowned for the "healing waters" emerging from the many springs in the area. At the foot of the Allegheny range, and located on the very border of hundreds of thousands of acres of GW National Forest, the loft feels a world away from the hustle and bustle. The grounds are planted with azaleas, rhododendrons and day lilies that are spectacular in the spring. Summer is five to ten degrees cooler than Harrisonburg due to the higher elevation, the tree canopy and stream. Great for hiking. Fall foliage is magnificent and is a week ahead of lower elevations in the Shenandoah Valley. Winter is a magical time when the trees are snow covered and the air crisp and clear. Just past the property is the trailhead for the National forest, so the loft is surrounded by forest and park land. From the trailhead one could walk for 20 miles into West Virginia and not see another structure (you may have to get your feet wet crossing if the stream is up - bring your hiking boots).
ENJOYING RAWLEY SPRINGS The property: Feel free to wander around the property or hang out in the garden and have a picnic on the grass. In the spring everything is blooming and green, and in the fall all the ground plants are turning brown as the leaves come into full color. The Stream: The stream flows directly out of George Washington National forest. To access the stream there is a stairway leading from the deck just behind the loft to the water. The stream might be a trickling brook if it’s been dry, or a raging river if there has been a big storm. Most often it is somewhere in between, but be careful – the rocks are always slippery. It’s fun to hang out on the big flat rocks in the middle of the stream directly across from the deck of the loft and have a picnic. If the steam is high enough you may wish to wade or lounge in the pools by the large rocks across from the loft. If you are a fly-fisher, the stream is home to native brook trout. The path that runs along the stream climbs back up the bank and forms an elliptical walking circuit back along the flat section – great for a walking meditation circuit. There are chairs and a bench scattered about for those who just wish to relax in the healing embrace of nature. Hiking in GW National Forest: If you face the gravel road and go right, you will quickly come to the end of the road and the beginning of GW National forest. Go straight past the end of the cul-de-sac and you are at the trail head. There is a beautiful little wading pool just steps down from the road, and miles and miles of trails begin just across from the stream. If the stream is up, you might have to get your feet wet if the stepping stones across are covered with water. There are three stream crossings on this trail within the first quarter mile or so, after which it follows the right bank for miles as you gain elevation. (At the second stream crossing you can follow the right bank over the bluff to avoid the second and third stream crossings). Just over the first stream crossing and to the left is a beautiful little picnic spot on the rocks across from a steep rock wall. A really great hang-out spot. (If the stream is too high, or you don’t want to get your feet wet, see the description for “Juliette’s Tower” to access the more difficult but equally beautiful trail that is on the opposite bank of the stream, and which requires some climbing, but no stream crossings). The trail into the forest is occasionally marked on the trees by two yellow squares or diamonds, and pretty much follows the stream. You can’t get lost if you remember that the stream flows towards home – it will bring you back to the cul-de-sac. The trail presents some really lovely and intimate views. After the third stream crossing the trail is a bit rocky for a hundred yards or so, then evens out. After this rocky bit, the path diverges from the stream for a stretch - look for a small cairn of stones and one oblong stone on the left side of the trail pointing toward the stream. The oblong stone points to a large, flat boulder just above a lovely pool into which rush a few small rapids. Gorgeous, secluded and peaceful. Sit on the boulder over the pool and become a fully realized being. Further on the trail is a beautiful long view of the stream, and also a section with a beautiful tall rock face on the other side. It’s easy to lose your sense of time as you delight in all this beauty: Remember to be back before dark! Of course, animals live in this huge forest, including black bears, and it’s conceivable, though very rare, that you might see one– as well as other forest creatures. They want to avoid you and it’s very unlikely that you will end up in the belly of a wild animal - we have never heard of anyone being attacked by a bear around here. More Hiking - Juliet’s Tower and the Left Bank: Also at the end of the cul-de-sac, to your left, will be a path that goes up the side of the very steep hill (use the tree roots as steps). Climb past the first large granite boulders and outcroppings, and about 200’ above the road you can hunt around to find the path that runs to your right. This path leads to a long, tall, granite wall (not just a bunch of boulders) and on to “Juliet’s Tower” (see photo). The wall is, perhaps, 100 feet long and 20 feet high and the path runs along its base, so if you don’t know if you’ve found it, you haven’t. There are great hang-out/picnic spots up here. You have to be a good rock climber to get up on the tower itself, which is a granite outcropping/spire about 20’ high, but the path along the rock wall is pretty cool too with a nice view. Well worth the effort. The Left Bank: If you are following this path because the stream is too high to cross and want to hike in the mountains along the left bank of the stream, continue on the narrow footpath past Juliette’s tower and down the side of the hill. This path is seldom traveled and a bit overgrown, but manageable. At the base of the hill you will cross over a little tributary brook (about 4 feet wide) and continue on the path as it opens up and becomes wider. In a few hundred yards you will come to a campfire pit and the path leads to a stream crossing. However, look to the left from the firepit and you will see a path that follows the left bank of the stream. Follow the left bank trail, picking your way through a pathless area of boulders (across from which is the meditation rock and pool mentioned in the “yellow rectangles” trail on the other side of the stream) until you come to a new stream/tributary that comes in from the left (and is about 20’ across). Follow the left bank of that stream until you come to another firepit, across from which is a really magical spot with small waterfalls and rapids with a little island in the middle. This is the best spot on this stream. A perfect place to have lunch and lounge by, or in, in the water. Further along this trail dead-ends on the left side and requires a stream crossing to continue on the right bank, where it gets rougher. Lower Rawley: If you prefer strolling to hiking take a walk through the pleasant village of Lower Rawley, population 20, more or less. If you face the gravel road and turn left you will walk out the way you drove in. It’s a nice walk into the little neighborhood of “Lower Rawley” (see drawing). (By the way - You will pass a bridge over the stream with a sign for “Highlands of Rawley Springs” that is just down from the loft. You can go to the middle of the bridge to get a view, but please don’t go all the way over the bridge and up into that neighborhood - a troll lives under that bridge and there are “residents and guests” only postings. Even though you are our guests, you don’t want to explain and it’s not worth the hassle anyway to walk up that big hill). Further on down the road, there is a hard-to-see path that is on the left side of the road, just past and above the first big newer house on the left, that leads down into Lower Rawley. Go down that path into Lower Rawley. If you miss it, no worries, just keep going on the road past the mailboxes and little stone spring house and down the hill. Take a hairpin left on Gum Run Trail which brings you into Lower Rawley from the other end. In the 1920’s locals began building cabins in Lower Rawley and you are our guest and therefore free to walk around the troll-free neighborhood and enjoy this pretty area. Gum Run Trail dead-ends at the aforementioned newer house, and the path you missed is now on your left and runs along the fenced-in yard with the chicken coop and big black dog that barks a lot but is harmless. There may be goats in that yard as well. You can pet them. Follow the path up to the paved road and turn right to get back to the loft. In the 1800’s Rawley Springs was a retreat renowned for its “healing waters” (see photos). Fires twice destroyed the main hotels that were built – as you walk around you can still see the stone foundations of the hotels above the mailboxes next the small stone springhouse. Blue Hole: Blue Hole is a well-known swimming hole on the confusingly named Dry River. You passed over the Dry River just after you turned onto Rawley Springs Road from Rt. 33. There is a path that runs along the near side of the river, and which goes to your left as you face the river, leading to Blue Hole. If you go down Gum Run Trail from Rawley Springs Rd and turn right over the little bridge that crosses the stream, then turn right again along the dirt road you will see some cabins (and a Swiss Chalet style house) on your right, and a little father along a small stone and wood cottage. Go between the cabins and stone cottage to find that path (turn left on the path) that closely boarders the river to get to Blue Hole. It is a nice walk even if you don’t intend to swim. You will know you are there when you see some signs of “Do not do xyz” posted by the county, and look across the water and see a giant boulder overhanging Blue Hole, from which we encourage you not to jump. The Upper Westward Path. Further up the hill from Juliet’s Tower, there is a trail that leads West into the forest that may be of interest to the serious woodsman. You can continue straight up the steep slope through the woods (no path and a difficult and brush impeded climb) and in about 100 yards you will strike a trail that runs perpendicularly to the hillside. Turn right and you can hike West for miles. You should mark your entry point to the path with something so that when you return you know when to go back down the hill to the Cul-de-Sac. People get lost up here. However, if you turn left when you strike the path it will take you back to gravel roads in Upper Rawley (Cliffside Trail), so if you miss your mark on the return hike, you can always come back around the long way just by continuing on the path. We don’t recommend this trail except to those who are equipped with a topo map and maybe a gps. It’s not particularly scenic when compared to the stream-side trails, as it is uninterrupted forest.
  • Tucked away in the woods with a stream in sight and in hearing distance. Amazing little getaway. Hope to go back.

  • Our stay here was beyond what we expected In regards to the area, accommodations, and especially the fact that our space made us feel like we were in a tree house. ☺️ for someone who lives in the city full time now but had once lived in the country out west, it’s very refreshing to find places such as this. It was a beautiful experience for several reasons traveling the paths within the property and park. The stay was stylish, modern, relevant and uplifting. Thank you!

  • The view from this home is absolutely spectacular. You can crack the window and hear the rushing of the stream as you go to sleep. I sat down by the stream for about an hour just to relax I can only imagine how beautiful this place would be in the summertime also. The loft was clean, open, and had a ton of little touches. The Host even had eggs in the refrigerator for breakfast and oatmeal for free. It was an amazing stay I would highly recommend to anybody!

  • Omi’s place was better than what we had expected. The location was exactly what we were looking for, tucked away in the woods, right next to the stream (so close you can hear and see the running water), and away from the town. They provide thorough instructions on how to get there and had a binder of recommendations in the studio. You will lose all service once you’re there but they do have wifi so no worries there. The place was spacious and very clean. They provided some nice touches to the place like breakfast items, coffee, tea, and water bottles. We really enjoyed our stay at Omi’s place. It made our weekend very relaxing and we loved being so close to nature but in a comfortable home.

  • Absolutely loved this place! Would definitely love to come back and visit. The space is delightful, spacious, and clean. This location offers you the ability to have a quiet night in or to go experience all that the Shenandoah Valley has to offer. Very close to stores and a great downtown area with craft breweries and restaurants. It was only a 20 minute drive to Massanutten and many other outdoor activities are also relatively close. Hans was an excellent host and was always very polite to speak with.

  • The space was stylish and clean, with all the amenities you will need for a weekend away. The views from the house were spectacular and being able to come back to a cozy living room with a wood stove was definitely great. John and Parker were very quick with their communications and helpful whenever we had a question. We would highly recommend staying here.

  • Great place but even greater owners.

    Keith2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cabin/home! Loved the coziness and openness of the space and it is a treat to see the stars at night. We took up John and Parker's recommendations and enjoyed hiking at Lake Laura and the Big Schloss, as well as lunch at the Woodstock Garden Cafe. We look forward to returning!

    Kristina2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • John & Parker’s place was exactly as advertised. The place was very clean, well equipped, and the fireplace was a nice touch. During our stay there were no curtains in the living and dining areas but the open concept gave the space a lot of light during daytime. The kitchen had everything you need to cook with. The bathroom was spacious and clean with some storage space for your essentials. The views from the living room and main bedroom was nice to wake up to. Even though there were neighbors, they were far enough to where you couldn’t see their living spaces. It was a bit of a drive to get to the nearest grocery store but that comes with the location. Thank you John & Parker for the lovely accommodation and quick responses to all of our questions. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a weekend getaway with a mountain view!

    Abi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at John and Parker’s cozy cabin. Beautiful space, great view, helpful directions. We’ll be visiting again, I’m sure.

    Adam2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed having this cozy place to ourselves! The two inches of snow from the day before were cleared off the drive before our arrival and there was plenty of wood to keep a warm fire going through the evening. The kitchen was decently stocked with a little bit of everything and the entire place was clean. We would happily stay again!

    Brendan2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful space, very clean with much attention to detail. Arrived during a fresh snow fall and the driveway was plowed right away. Communication with the hosts was thoughtful and prompt. The views are spectacular. We would love to return for another stay in the future.

    Samira2020-01-09T00:00:00Z

Ground floor, garden apartment with almost 900 square feet and natural light, gorgeous views and a private entrance! No carpet-concrete and tile floors throughout. Pets welcome!
This apartment is conveniently located in close proximity to Harrisonburg and the surrounding communities. Hiking trails, vineyards, downtown Harrisonburg, are all less than 15 minutes away. Although it is a one bed, one bath, it has over 900 Sq feet so there is plenty of space for a family. Take a look at the photos to see what the entire space has to offer. There is a queen bed in the bedroom and a day bed with trundle in the living room that makes a king or two twins. The living room has a tv, blue ray and DVD player (with access to Netflix). WiFi available! There is central heat and air controlled by a thermostat upstairs in my home. There is a space heater in the bedroom closet for personal adjustment to temperature! Fall foliage views on the VA and WVA boarder are less than 30 minutes away!
I am surrounded by Mennonite farmlands on three sides. The beauty is breath taking and the ever changing landscape depending on the season, makes each trip unique.
  • Stayed for a whole week while I was in town for work, very spacious and had everything that I needed. I appreciated Brenda giving me my privacy. Only downside, Wifi ws spotty and kicked me off often

  • Brenda's place is very spacious and clean. It was also very warm for a basement. I loved how clear and precise the check in instructions were, and her quick responses!

  • This place is quite modest but hey so am I! It is clean and has the basics, plus is is 20 minutes from some of the best mountain biking in the country. It’s a simple straight shot 10 minutes to town as well, could not be easier. If you’re traveling with pups Harrisonburg has the sweetest local parks or for more epic hikes the George Washington National Forest is amazing also. My only tip would be to bring extra kitchen supplies if you’ll be doing a lot of cooking, such as a good knife, cast iron skillet and can opener.

    Nathalie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had a nice rest stop for a night here on our long roadtrip. It's a quiet, clean spot in the farm country of Virginia. Lower level of a home with a couple other occupants. Kitchen was suitable and communication was easy.

  • Beautiful space, and great location close to town!! I came to Harrisonburg for the weekend, to go to a concert at the Clementine Cafe. Alyssa’s house was just a short Uber ride away but the neighborhood feels very secluded and peaceful. My room was clean and cozy and had plenty of privacy, and they were very welcoming to both me and my dog. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Spent a few lovely days at Marcia‘s cabin! Communication with Marcia has been very easy and checking in a breeze. The cabin is just as described. It is set in a somewhat secluded area, very peaceful. It was great being able to walk out directly from the cabin for a short hike to the blue hole on the first evening. We enjoyed some great hikes in the area over the next days and it was nice to come home to a warm and comfy cabin in the evening. The cabin has all amenities one can wish for and everything has been very well thought through. The upstairs area with the desk overlooking nature outside and the cute little nook for kids are great features. Enjoyed the gas fireplace downstairs in the evenings. We had plenty of hot water for our showers and great coffee with the Keurig in the mornings. Had twice diner in town at Jimmy’s Madison where we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. A wonderful stay we will remember. Highly recommended!

  • The place was easy to get to, felt secluded while still being close to everything you would need, cozy and clean. Communication with the host, Marcia, was easy and fast. Everything went smoothly. This place is great for a weekend away from the city to stargaze and listen to the river.

NEW MAY 2019 - We’ve converted an old milk parlor into a charming rural retreat – just for you! The cottage is situated on the edge of our 15 acre farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We're sure you will love everything about our cozy cottage, from the shiplap walls to the breathtaking sunrises.
Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure we've got you covered; our cottage is located just 10 minutes from Interstate 81, 20 minutes to James Madison University/downtown Harrisonburg, and 3 minutes to the nearest winery. The Milk Parlor at Cross Keys' bedroom features a king bed with Casper Mattress, a seating area (with sleeper sofa), dresser, and coffee bar. You can count on us to stock the bar with some coffee and snack bars, plus bottled waters in the mini-fridge. Our walls are decorated with local art and an "Alexa" enabled Sonos speaker allows you to play your favorite music or get the forecast, using just your voice. Furthermore, if you want to stay in and enjoy relaxing, we have a TV that is logged-in to stream Neflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO. There is so much more and we can't wait to share it with you! #stayinamilkparlor
If you appreciate wine, you are in luck, we are surrounded by wineries! The closest is Cross Keys Vineyard, which also has a restaurant. It is 1.5 miles away. For our beer loving guests you can drive into downtown Harrisonburg to experience multiple great breweries or drive 20 minutes north or south to visit Cave Hill Farms Brewery or Stable Craft Brewing. Check out the Shenandoah Spirits Trail (https://www.shenandoahspiritstrail.com/) for more details on nearby wineries, craft breweries, cideries, and distilleries. If you enjoy local food, downtown Harrisonburg is 20 minutes away and is full of amazing restaurants. We also recommend Valley Pike Market, which is in Weyers Cave about 12 min from the Milk Parlor. It has lots of local goodies, a deli, food trucks, ice cream bar, and coffee shop. If you're "outdoorsy" and like hiking, biking or fishing, there are miles of trails, scenic roads, and waterways out of our door step. The view from the cottage looks right at the Blue Ridge Mountains, home of Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. We actually own a local biking and running shop, so we can recommend many places to explore, plus we have plenty of storage space for your bikes and other equipment. If you want to relax around the farm we have our own nature trail for you to enjoy. It is about a .5 mile walk, where we have a few trail side benches and a hammock and some chairs down by the stream. Do you like blueberries? Hobbit Hill Blueberry Farm is a pick-your-own patch right around the corner. (Seasonal - OPEN NOW) Massanutten Four-Season Resort is 20 minutes from our farm. They have lots of fun activities - skiing, waterpark, biking, and much more. Like pizza? Vito's Pizza is just a few minutes down the road and it's delicious (they also deliver to the farm.) Have kids? There is a new trampoline park 15 minutes down the road. Bonus, there is an ice cream shop and community playground right beside it! Horse enthusiast? Our property was once a horse farm and we have a few stables available for you to use, plus you're welcome to ride around our farm. Another fun activity near by is visiting the Grand Caverns. They are about 12 minutes from our cottage and a must-do experience if you've never been in a cave! Like antiquing? There are many great shops in our area - we recommend trying the Factory Antique Mall in Verona or if you're lucky enough to be here when the Barn at Creekside Farm is open - you must go!
  • The milk parlor was the perfect stay for our weekend get away. We had plans at massanutten, however the space was so cute I debated not leaving !!!

  • A beautiful rural setting that will be a respite from the road, or wherever you’re coming from. Super clean, thoughtful accommodations with the bonus of two happy dogs to greet you. Thank you!

  • The milk parlor was absolutely stunning. Like something out of a magazine. Very cozy and romanic.

  • Clean, beautifully styled, cozy, and an extremely comfortable bed!

    Sara2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This home was one of the best Air BnBs we've stayed at thus far. Kyle and Melissa were unbelievably nice and welcoming. Their home was kept immaculate with amazing mountain views! The milk parlor was inviting, vibrant, and we loved the small details and home decor they chose. It felt like a home away from home. We would highly recommend the milk parlor to anyone. We promise you will enjoy your time just as much as we did!

  • The Milk Parlor is a beautifully renovated guest house with many thoughtful touches. Kyle and Melissa provided snacks, coffee and tea, which we greatly appreciated. We ran into Kyle and Melissa after returning to the Milk Parlor one evening. They were very friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them.

    Heather2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • When you come and stay at Kyle and Melissa's, you will have the best time! Their attention to detail and ability to make their Milk Parlor comfy and cozy, made it the perfect getaway weekend. Their hospitality was fantastic and we will be recommending this place to everyone we know who may need a home away from home for a weekend! Thank you all so much!

Newly renovated early 1800's cottage next to our 230 year-old farmhouse, all surrounded by flower and vegetable gardens. Active spring flows from under cottage into stream below. Located on quiet country road, an easy 8 minute drive into Harrisonburg, with excellent restaurants and unique shops. Deanna & Byron live in the main house and the spring house is nearby. You have the whole cottage to yourself, including a new spacious deck, which affords plenty of privacy. Heated with wood stove.
Full kitchen, claw-footed bathtub/shower, composting toilet. Toilet works great using sawdust, you'll be amazed how well it works! Recently upgraded to queen size bed instead of full size. Side porch looks out over garden and sheep pasture. Back of cottage looks into small woods. Quiet, restful setting. Note that in winter cottage is heated by combination of wood stove and electrical baseboard heaters.
  • Not sure where to begin. Byron was an incredible host and the guest cottage was exquisite with every detail thought out. He made sure everything was to our liking even bringing fresh homemade parmesan encrusted sun dried tomato rolls. Wood fire stove was amazing. Such a relaxing spot which makes you appreciate the beauty of simplicity. Will be visiting again soon.

  • We loved Byron and Deanna’s cozy cottage. Byron was extremely helpful with setting us up. This space was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway, and it was extremely convenient for our night out in downtown Harrisonburg. We loved waking up to a warm wood stove and listening to the nearby cows. Quiet, relaxing space.

  • A glowing review! This place was beautiful and the host was so kind. The space looks even better in person, and everything is so nicely laid out

    Katherine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Spring House was the perfect 3 day weekend getaway. Such a cozy space that is easy to access and well attended to. Byron and Deanna added some nice touches to the place like a few bananas and other foods, puzzles, and warm quilts. The composting toilet was very easy and intuitive to use. Would definitely stay again!

  • This place is amazing. It’s quite and has a beautiful old fashion feel to it. The host are extremely friendly.

  • Great hosts! They even got us puzzles on request. Very attentive to our needs. Would stay again

    Adam2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the Spring House was wonderful! I wanted to get out of the city for the weekend for some peace and quiet, and I could not have found a better spot for it. The space was cozy, and made even cozier by the wood stove (for which I was kept well-supplied with wood), comfortable bed, extra quilts everywhere, and plenty of hot water and good towels. It was my first time trying a composting toilet, and I was pleasantly surprised: easy to use, zero odor. Byron and Deanna were helpful and attentive, while also leaving me my space. The amenities were excellent, especially the tea/coffee station, fresh eggs, cooking supplies, and extra touches like the book selection and puzzles. As with all wood-burning fireplaces, there is some smoke, but it quickly clears up into the rafters and I honestly liked the woodsy smell. It was too rainy and cold to sit on the new deck, but there are plenty of windows, so I enjoyed the view from inside. Most of all I appreciated the thoughtfulness of the house: it was set up like a home, not a hotel room. I will definitely be back!

Very quiet neighborhood. No close neighbors. This a new house built Dec 2015. There are two rooms on Airbnb with a shared bathroom on one end of the house and I live on the other end of the house with my own bathroom. There is a new queen bed 9/2016 My bathroom is available if the guest bathroom is tied up. Plenty of parking and room to move about outside with good views and wildlife. I have a mushroom farm here, please ask for a tour. Harrisonburg city limits are 5 minutes from here
This bedroom has a full size bed and a single bed. Lots of closet space. There is a shared bathroom with the other room but usually the other room is not booked. That room has a queen bed. I provide washcloths and towels. This room has it's own heater and its own window AC so you can adjust the temperature to your own liking. I have internet with wifi but it may be too slow for HD movies etc.
Nice wooded area. There are nice views of the mountains here. Lots of restaurants in town. Very peaceful and quiet. Feel free to hike the wooded area or to the stream below the house. Red Tail hawks nest here most summers from March to June. Lots of birds for birdwatching. Very secluded, no neighbors.
  • Perfect place for a pit-stop on a long road trip.

  • Highly recommended!

  • Orv is a great host and he works hard to make his place clean and special. The mushroom garden is super interesting, and ask him to show you the hawks nest!

    Michael2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I arrived a lot later than I intended and Orv showed me in despite having to wake up early. Didn't get a chance to chat with him since it was so late, but it was a pleasant interaction. Really unique place with a lot of character. Hand made things all around the house, and many really cool wildlife photography and what looks like handmade frames. Most importantly everything was very clean. Carpet freshly vacuumed, clean sheets, bathroom sparkling clean. Lots of cereals in the kitchen. Only thing to be aware of is I think the water is really soft, if that's something that affects your preference. It was a really cool place to stay and had everything you could need. I'd definitely stay again if possible.

    Yuva2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay. Private and peaceful. Orv couldn't have been more accommodating.

    Mason2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • I took a trip with one other person to visit Harrisonburg for the weekend. I have to say, we were very lucky that we were able to stay by Orv's Airbnb for the weekend. The place was very quiet and mostly hidden away from the main road. While it does get a little dark there, it's very peaceful and quiet. Coming from a very noisy area, this was a very nice change of pace for once. Orv was very kind and understanding of us having to check in a bit early as well. We can't thank him enough for his kindness and hospitality. Definitely a place I would love to stay at once more if I ever visit Harrisonburg again.

    Mildred2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay. Very quiet and comfortable. Great views and setting. Orv was friendly, welcoming, and responsive. Would highly recommend!

    Mason2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Orv's place is awesome! There are magnificent views of the mountains, Orv is very knowledgeable about the area and can direct you to anything you're looking for. He is super generous and hospitable and it was just a pleasure to stay at his place, I'll definitely stay again.

Recently renovated 1 bedroom cottage on 24 acres in the woods. Nice view of the pond and organic farm. It is also located on the grounds of the White Lotus Eco Spa Retreat with many other amenities including Frisbee golf, pond with boat, Sauna, outdoor fireplace, massage room, meditation room, poker/game room, Movie theater, Cedar wood gazebo, etc.
This quite and secluded cottage has pinewood ceilings and floors with large arches separating the rooms and a covered back porch with nice view of the woods around it. There is a full kitchen with granite tile and wooden counters. There is a marble tiled full bathroom. A glass front wood stove in an open living/ding room with picture windows with views of the farm, pond and woods that surround. The house has a mini split for heating and cooling.
  • I've stayed at White Lotus several times and it continues to be an absolute delight. The place is amazing as the hosts are welcoming. Highly recommend!

  • Beautiful cabin, very comfy spot for a retreat either inward to relax together, outward on the grounds or even for a drive up into the mountains. We visited before the Shenandoah park fully opened in March and had it all to ourselves in 60º alpine sunshine.

    Thad2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cabin!

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The bed was extremely comfortable and the space was beautiful!

    Carmel2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! We enjoyed walking around the property and taking in the scenery. It was so fun to watch the ducks and dogs run around. The views were pretty and it was the perfect escape we were looking for. Can’t wait to come back!

    Ashley2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The location was great! The cabin is off to the side which makes it private. I only stayed for 1 night but it was perfect and I loved it!

    Haleigh2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the most peaceful stay I've had at an Air BnB. The hosts were super helpful and very thoughtful! They thought of everything like - labeled light switches, wood for the fireplace, a well equipped kitchen with everything you'd need to cook, easy to use blinds, super comfy pillows and soft bed linens, a coffee grinder, ice trays, super detailed info on things to do nearby, maps, and so much more! All I had to do was relax and have fun. The cabin was also beautiful on the inside. The kitchen is really pretty and has a huge working space. There is also a window above the sink where you can look out onto a duck pond. The fireplace kept the whole cabin warm and cozy. The living room with the big TV had a big comfortable couch which was great for watching movies at night. Overall I had an amazing stay! PS. The ducks were really cute and friendly.

  • This place is a gem and defies words. It’s quirky and unique and all abides by the same artistic vision, but it’s also really comfortable and clean and “modern”. Bonus points for the French press and electric tea kettle in the cabins. Extra bonus points for the espresso machines in public kitchens. Extra extra bonus points for the wood-fired sauna.
