Kippford makes a fantastic base for your self catering holiday. Kippford is a picturesque yachting centre on the Colvend coast. Kippford is perfect for a holiday with its wonderful views and dramatic sunsets. There are miles of walks in forests, along cliff paths and on local footpaths. The Old Post Office is a lovely modern front line self catering property built in 2003 with stunning views over the estuary.
  • Lovely holiday let to stay in, very clean and comfortable beds .. lovely log fire for the cold wet nights we had .. Great place on the water front and only a short walk to lovely hotel pub with great food and beer .. Would definitely stay here again..

  • The old post office is a fabulous place to stay. It looks great in the photos but even better in reality. It's so light and bright, with fabulous, ever changing views. The village and surrounding area is gorgeous. Lots of great walks to do and then a cosy place in front of the fire to go back to.

  • This has to be one of our favourite Airbnb experiences to date - The Old Post Office is simply stunning. Jane was easy to get in touch with and gave clear instructions where necessary. The Old Post Office is a very cosy, comfortable and stylish space to be in - it also boasts a lovely garden which we spent a lot of time in . We were also very fortunate to have had such great Easter weather which made the whole experience even better. We will be back!!

Whilst the beach will be too much for some to resist, the local area has marvellous opportunities for other recreational pursuits. These of course include wildlife and birdwatching which is particularly well served with the RSPB Mersehead Reserve just a few miles along the coast. The reserve is particularly spectacular in winter with thousands of geese and other over wintering wildfowl present but in summer is also worth a visit with pleasant walks through the reserve woodlands down to the beach. During the winter the reserve also runs Badger Watching and other events. The nearby Southerness lighthouse is also worth visiting and it is occasionally opened to allow visitors to climb to the top of the historic light and see the view of the coast and to the Lake District Hills, South West Scotland has numerous historic sites to explore including Sweetheart Abbey in New Abbey together with one of the oldest Corn Mills, also maintained by Historic Scotland. Connections with Burns can be explored in Dumfries and other villages including Ellisland Farm at Holywood where Burns farmed for a number of years. Cycling and walking are particularly well catered for with numerous coastal walks and also Forestry Commission Woodlands including the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes which have been laid out in a number of the Forestry Commission properties across the region. The closest of these are at Dalbeattie and Mabie Woods both of which provide superb and spectacular settings for quiet walks or testing strenuous mountain biking routes.

  • If you’re looking for all the best bits of camping but with the security of a roof above your head then you’ve found your home for the night. We had a great time here and made the most of the fire-place on incredibly dreary February nights. Ian gave us a little walk around his land and even offered to take my dog out with him around the land for some exercise. We’ll be staying again when passing through that’s for sure.

  • The lodge was very spacious and clean, and we had a lovely stay. The information that Pamela sent us with directions to the location, how to use the heating/water systems, and nearby amenities was so helpful that we had no problems.

  • A lovely Christmas spent. Decorations put up, a tree and even some gifts for us to open!! Fantastic accommodation, lovely view and walks close by. We had all our provisions so didn’t need to go off site once which was great for an ultimate chilled experience- even with two lively kids. Thanks so much, we would definitely recommend and love to come again.

  • A lovely cabin in the Barend park. Pamela is an excellent host with good communication. Sandyhills is beautiful with a fantastic, unspoilt beach. The surroundings are amazing indeed - including close encounters with the local wildlife! A fantastic place to stay - we hope we can return.

  • Absolutely fantastic lodge in a great location. The most well equipped place we’ve ever stay. Great for people of all ages. Would highly recommend!!! We loved seeing billy the badger on a evening :)

    Simon2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 3 nights with our young children and our friends managed to stay in the lodge opposite which was handy! The location is amazing with just a short walk to the sandy beach. The scenery around the lodge is just beautiful and so quiet and it’s so handy to be in that area to visit all the attractions. Everything you need is in the lodge with lots of extra touches and it was very clean and spacious. We cannot wait to visit again soon as the highlight was definitely the nightly visits from Billy the badger! Next time we may be lucky enough to see a red squirrel! Can’t wait to return!

  • Our family/friends group of six had a wonderful week at Ann’s place in Sandyhills. Highlights were the use of the golf club - I played Colvend as a kid and have always loved it so it was great to play it with my son; the beach at Sandyhills; coastal walks at Rockcliff and Kippford. The cabin itself was very comfortable and well equipped with some nice extra amenities such as board games and lots of info on the surrounding area. Arrangements with Ann were very easy and she always responded very promptly. Thanks very much Ann.

  • Alison is the most genuine lady and such a fantastic host! Made sure that we had arrived safe and asked if there was anything we needed straight away! Her cabin is absolutely spotless and so well decorated! Me and my family are already excited about going back! Can’t thank her enough! So spacious and homely! A real home from home! Simon2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve stayed in many cabins at Barend and this one is the most beautifully decorated and furnished. It was sparkling clean and had everything we needed for our trip. Checking in was easy via a key lock box. Alison was a lovely host, replied to messages prior to the trip, was informative and dropped by to wave us off. The location of the cabin could be a little busy being the first cabin and next to the road in, but we enjoyed the convenience of the short walk back to the cabin from the beach. Only issue we had was with the WiFi not working until day 5 but we weren’t in a rush to be reachable anyway. We would definitely stay again and can highly recommend Alison and her cabin!

  • Absolutely loved staying at the chalet for a week-long family holiday. The chalet was bigger than expected and had everything we needed. There were toys and books which suited our range of ages of children - 4 up to 11. DVD’s and books for adults too. A lovely welcome pack of goodies and treats. Beautiful views from the balcony and a short pleasant walk to Kippford. Very peaceful area with several family attractions within 40 minutes drive.

  • A lovely little place away from the beaten track, striking the perfect balance between tranquility and short travelling distances to local amenities. A 10 minute drive takes you to Dalbeattie for supermarkets and restaurants. We were greeted upon arrival and then left to our own devices - the perfect hosts! The place is great - homely and packed with cooking items for self catering. Make sure to pack teabags and coffee though!

Open all year, Coastal Kippford is the perfect holiday location for those looking for a place of pure tranquillity who wish to avoid noisier resort locations, yet offers a wealth of activities on your doorstep to keep the whole family entertained. Kippford is a beautiful seaside village only 15 minutes stroll down the hill from the Park. It consists of a waterside street of very pretty granite and whitewashed houses, a slipway for launching your boat, a gift shop, tea room, a yacht club and two lovely pubs both family and dog friendly (one with a conservatory for morning coffee and an outdoor play area, the other a very traditional old granite ‘village inn’). There is no more peaceful way to spend the evening than watching the sun go down over the yachts, admiring the surrounding hills, and enjoying a quiet drink. At the end of the village are two beautiful sand, shell and pebble beaches, sheltered by rock outcrops. One looks up the estuary towards the village, the other has a stunning view over the outer bay and islands, and is often good for fishing on the rising tide. There’s lots to see and do in the local area whatever your interest – walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, riding, golf, castles, gardens, crafts… we have produced two guides to help you explore the area: our “Breakout” leaflet with seven suggested routes by car and our “Activities” brochure detailing forest trails and cycleways, beaches, sea, fishing, trekking, golf, crafts, shops & restaurants (available from reception).

  • We had a fabulous week at Braesyde in Kippford. The house is fantastic - beautifully appointed - the photos do not do it justice!! The views from the sun lounge, and bedrooms, are wonderful - ever changing depending on the light and the weather. The beds are extremely comfortable and the house is very well insulated - so nice and cosy. Our hosts, Stuart and Jill, could not have been more generous or helpful. The welcome hamper was much appreciated- full of lovely goodies. Kippford is a quiet and very pretty village, and the walk from there to Rockcliffe and beyond to Sandyhills is particularly bonny. We had a super holiday and would not hesitate to return, both to Braesyde, and to explore more of beautiful Dumfries and Galloway. We cannot recommend Braesyde highly enough - Susan and Simon Innes

  • We had the most wonderful time at this beautiful home! Checkin was efficient and easy and the house was so much better than we expected. Everything was perfectly clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed in the home AND in the kitchen. We were hosting several extra guests for a large holiday dinner and we had everything we needed to prepare and serve the meal. All the appliances were updated and the bathrooms were very clean and lovely. The views were breathtaking and we absolutely loved exploring the area. We played games, watched movies and ventured out to local villages. It was such relaxing and wonderful location and we only wish that we could give more than five stars. We were so very pleased with this home and we were very sorry to leave. We cannot wait to return! This was such a memorable and delightful stay.
