Nestled into the crook of the Bruce Peninsula where it juts into Lake Huron, Sauble Beach boasts what is said to be the world’s second-longest freshwater beach. The seven miles of soft sand feature shallow, swimmable water, thanks to the unique sandbar deposits from which the beach is formed, while the west-facing shore and town are perfectly positioned for spectacular sunsets. The town of Sauble Beach grew around a sawmill on the Sauble River in the early 20th century, and became a popular vacation destination soon after that. The Main Street and much of the current beach area date to 1948, which gives the town a retro feel.

High season in Sauble Beach brings warm weather and some sunshine, though it still cools off in the evenings, so you should always pack a sweatshirt along with your swimwear. High temperatures can reach 75 degrees Fahrenheit and drop to 55 degrees in summer, but the year-round rain peaks around the same time, with more than four inches of rain in August, so it’s important to pack an umbrella and waterproof layers. The chilly winters bring that precipitation in the form of snow, creating a winter wonderland. While it’s a cozy time to stay in one of the area’s cottage rentals it also requires you pack plenty of warm clothing as the low temperatures dip into the teens.

Sauble Beach

See, be seen, swim, or sun at the town’s eponymous attraction. The endless stretch of sand means that visitors can choose between the party atmosphere of popular parts or head further out for a quieter, more secluded spot to call your own. The clean waters are warm in summer and make for great swimming.

Sauble Falls Provincial Park

Once the center of the town’s economy, with its timber mill, the long series of gentle cascades are just a few minutes from Sauble Beach. Surrounded by immature forest after a 1906 fire badly burned the area, the scenic park holds great picnic spots and an adventure playground for kids. Rainbow trout and Chinook salmon ply the stream in certain seasons, making for good fishing and an interesting sight as they leap up each of the many segments of the falls.

Boating

Between touring the Fishing Islands archipelago; going fishing, kayaking, or canoeing on the Sauble River; or enjoying paddle boarding and jet-skiing, the area offers any number of ways to get out on the water — under your own power or by motor. A variety of outfitters in town offer tours, fishing charters, and rentals to get your boat afloat.
