Experience the heart of Korean after-work socializing with an evening inspired by the iconic 회식 (hoesik) tradition—a mix of food, drinks, and new friendships straight out of a K-drama. Enjoy dining, drinking, and singing at local hangouts in the lively Yongsan neighborhood. In true hoesik fashion, we will visit at least three different locations. • Start with an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ feast featuring tender meats, fresh vegetables, and signature dipping sauces. Brewing K-Traditional Rice Wine with a Master at the Hanok

Learn how to make traditional makgeolli, the cloudy, sparkling Korean rice wine, in a hanok (traditional Korean house). We’ll taste the early results of the process as well as finished seasonal makgeolli. Along the way, I’ll share the wisdom of my ancestors’ fermentation traditions. • I’ll welcome you into the hanok, share the story of fermented liquor in Korea, and introduce the fundamentals of makgeolli and the fermentation process. • Make godubap (steamed rice), the foundation of our beverage, and add the nuruk—the yeasty grain cake that jump-starts the process—and water. • I’ll demonstrate how to filter the alcohol and we’ll taste the undiluted results, called wonju. We’ll also sample seasonal varieites of makgeolli, and I’ll answer any questions you may have. You’ll leave with insights into Korea’s healthy fermented food culture, and the skills to easily apply the techniques you’ve learned at home.

I originally created this vegetarian tour for my family, who visited Korea as vegetarians from overseas and had a hard time finding true vegetarian food in busy markets. They wanted to taste authentic Korean market food, so I visited many food stalls, checked every ingredient, and sampled traditional dishes until I discovered hidden gems that highlight Korean cuisine in a plant-based way. After designing this tour for my family, I started offering private vegetarian tours to other visitors, and the warm response inspired me to open this experience to everyone. On this tour, you'll explore Gwangjang Market like a local. I'll guide you through the lively alleys while sharing the stories behind each dish and the traditions they represent. You will taste a carefully chosen range of vegetarian versions of Korean classics, including hearty traditional meals, satisfying noodle dishes, delectable desserts, tasty snacks, and even traditional Korean drinks. Rest assured, every dish is completely vegetarian. No meat or seafood is used, and everything is fully included in the tour fee. Let's experience an authentic Korean vegetarian food trip in a way that you simply cannot experience on your own. Quick note: All the dishes we try are vegetarian, but this is a busy market where stalls also cook meat and use the same oil and cooking tools, so a little cross-contamination may occur.

Fortress Night Hike & Snack at a Local Market

The BEST night view of Seoul is waiting for you! + series of snacks in a local market + dinner at a traditional restaurant (Optional, but inexpensive) You won't need to go to Seoul Tower because our view is just so much better! We, Koa & Sam, are outdoor fanatics—and we are probably some of the friendliest people you will meet in Korea. (According to 5,000+ people who came before you) First stop is a traditional market and it's our snack time. Here, we will sample local snacks Koreans love to eat. (Not all, but some are vegan friendly!) Our hike will take place along the ancient fortress that was built on Inwangsan mountain about 600 years ago. We'll get to see how stunning Seoul looks from above. We'll sit down at a peak and gaze at the sunset. The hike lasts about 90 minutes, and we'll reach a peak at 240 meters (780 feet) above sea level. This is suitable for most people but if you have trouble with walking, probably this isn't suitable for you. Then head over to a legendary noodle & dumpling restaurant in a lantern-lit alley.
