Known as the lobster capital of the world, this port town in east New Brunswick has a thriving fishing industry, and is most famous for its lobster festival in July, which attracts visitors from around the globe. A 90-tonne lobster sculpture greets you upon arrival in the French-Acadian town, and is a great place to stop for a photo. As well as a chance to indulge in some freshly caught crustaceans, Shediac also offers the opportunity to explore the region’s national parks, and swim in one of Canada’s warmest saltwater beaches at Parlee.

Head to the bluff at Parlee Beach Provincial Park to see the sunset over the lake, and during the warmer months of the year, it’s also well worth exploring other beautiful beaches nearby, like Plage L'Aboiteau.

Shediac has quite distinct seasons, and each brings its own reasons to visit. Summer is often the busiest time of year, especially over the holidays when families come to take advantage of the town’s sandy beaches and lakeside parks. This is also when the Shediac plays host to festivals and other social gatherings such as comedy roasts and concerts. Fall brings sunny skies, mild weather, as well as lower humidity and the ever-beautiful sight of changing leaves. While spring is generally the quietest time in Shediac, it can bring rain and lots of insects, making it the most suitable time for exploring indoor sights like the town’s shops and museum. Winter brings cold, snowy weather, great for those who love winter sports, especially skiing; the nearby hills are optimal spots to shred through the snow.

Rotary Park

Rotary Park welcomes its visitors to a grassy terrain suitable for daytime picnics or evening star gazing. A large lobster sits at the park entrance, standing guard in front of the various flags and coat of arms for this Canadian region. Bushels of wildflowers bloom in the area, and there are plenty of shops nearby for the casual walk-through.

Parlee Beach Provincial Park

When you’ve had your fill of lobster, be sure to head down to Parlee Beach Provincial Park, where you’ll find one of North America’s best saltwater beaches. Take a dip, go canoeing or kayaking, or even stand-up paddleboarding, or simply relax at one of the beachside restaurants near your chalet at Shediac.
