University
“The university that TJ built. We are not biased or anything, but it’s the best university in the world. (We understand there are arguments for and against this claim.) But, truly, if you haven’t visited UVA, you should. The Lawn and Rotunda are historic and you’ll find them very beautiful and interesting, whether or not you are a ‘Hoo. Bring a picnic and a frisbee and hang out on the Lawn, gazing at the architectural genius of our third President. When you’re done, walk down to The Corner and enjoy the used bookstores, tons of restaurants and coffee shops, and soak in the vibe of this vibrant college town. We love Roots (yummy healthy bowls), Boylan Heights (grass-fed burgers), and Mellow Mushroom for pizza. ”

Route
“If coming from I-66 out of D.C. or from I-64 From Richmond, consider picking up Skyline Drive. All along the drive you pass through Shenandoah National Park and look West across the bucolic Shenandoah Valley all the way to the Allegheny range - Those mountains you see in the distance across the Valley is where you are headed to Rawley Springs. You would exit Skyline Drive near Elton (ignore the icon on the map that is farther North) and take rt. 33 West to Rawley Springs. It's a lot slower than taking rt. 81 (speed limit 35mph) so you should leave yourself plenty of time to stop at the pullouts and take in the views.”

New American Restaurant

“Tari's serves an incredible tomato-basil bisque for lunch (and dinner!) I particularly enjoy the pecan-crusted salmon filet with spinach and gingered mashed sweet potatoes for dinner. They also have steaks! Weekend dinner is usually busy, but the crowd is gone by 8pm or so. Most places in town close early compared to the city--fair warning. :) ”
