“With staff in black waistcoats and bow ties, Popeye looks old-fashioned, but it was an early craft beer pioneer. They have more than 70 beers on tap, including a wide selection of Japanese brews. You can get a 10-beer sampler or try Popeye’s own Strange Brewing, an IPA made for them with homegrown Ibaraki hops and a self-cultured yeast strain. Their menu also has a good range of food made with beer, like chicken simmered in a Belgian kriek beer or brown ale stew with chicken.”

“Located in the historic Yanaka area in a renovated wooden house, you can really feel an older Japan here. They serve their own Yanaka beer and August beer, which go well with simple snacks like edamame, smoked cheeses, and nuts. You might see some people eating from large rustic earthenware pots. These nabe, as they’re called, are used to cook and serve dishes containing various meats, tofu, and vegetables. They’re filling and great with beer.”
