  • We decided to stay in Tuvununu because we didn't want the typical Backpacker hostel experience that you find around Fiji. The Tuvununu accommodation is a big Fijian building that offers a beautiful view onto the ocean. Directly located at the shore with a big terrace and a big room to enjoy dinner as well as relax and watch TV, as well as multiple rooms with their own bathroom, makes it feel like coming home. The sleeping rooms are comfortable with enough space to pack your bags etc. there is a fan in case it gets hot which was never the case during our stay(and your own bathroom). Staying in Tuvununu is like staying in a luxurious homestay, you get to experience the delicious fijian cuisine at a more than reasonable price and have enough space and privacy as you need. The supermarket is 20 minutes by foot away. The walk is more than stunning, beautiful shores as well as forests made out of palm trees. The staff/owners are wonderful people who will be always there if you need anything. They also have a little second hand clothing store on the property that had some beautiful gems waiting for us. You can take the bus to the waterfalls just in front of the entrance, which is definitely worth a visit! We can definitely recommend tuvununu to anyone interested in a high standard fijian experience.

  • I traveled to Taveuni last week with my two friends and had a lovely stay at Tuvununu Garden Inn. While we were only there for two nights, Tom and his sister Maritha, who was our host while we were there, went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. They coordinated guides and drivers to take us to each of the sites that we wanted to see (Waitavala, Lavena, Bouma) and ensured that we got to do all of the activities we wanted to do in our short visit to Taveuni. The Inn is clean and spacious, with lots of shared living space and deck space to relax by the water. We booked all of our meals while there through the Inn, and Maritha cooked us delicious Fijian meals - she even packed us a lunch for our day trip, and was able to accommodate a vegetarian diet. There are also 3 dogs and a very friendly cat at the Inn, which provided for some great entertainment. While we were there, there was a large group of contract workers staying there, who were very friendly and invited us to join them for a kava ceremony. However, if you're looking for a quieter, more private experience, double check with Tom to see how many other guests will be there when you plan to visit, because the space is large and can get quite loud with lots of people around. My other recommendation would be to be aware of hidden costs, and pre-set all of your prices. When booking, make sure to communicate with Tom, to determine whether you are paying per person or per room - when we booked, the listing did not increase per person, so we assumed that the price was final for our room of 3 people. However, upon checkout, Tom was still expecting payment from my 2 friends. When we explained the misunderstanding, Tom admitted his error and offered us a discount. We've suggested that he change this on the air bnb listing, as he is new to air bnb, and the error was not intentional on his part. As long as you are communicating with him about payment, there should be no issues. Further, when booking your guides/drivers through Tom and Maritha, make sure you are clear about what you want to do, and pre-determine your prices before you go. For example, when we arranged our day trip to Lavena and Bouma, we were told it would cost us 170 FJD for the guide and driver for the day, not including park entrance fees. However, when we returned, Maritha told us that this price was only for the hike to the first waterfall at Bouma, and that since we opted to travel to the third and furthest waterfall with our guide, we would need to pay 250 FJD. However our guide did not make this clear when he offered us the options of visiting the second and third waterfall. With this in mind, our hosts were very honest and reasonable - they just wanted to ensure that the guides and drivers were paid fairly for their work. Just make sure that you are clear and specific about what you want to do, discuss what extra costs may come up, and set final prices ahead of time. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Tuvununu and would absolutely return if we had the opportunity to. I would recommend this to anyone, especially backpackers who want to experience a more authentic Fijian experience in Taveuni.

Bula! Come stay in our rustic Beach Bure, just steps from the ocean. The Beach Bure is located right in the center of all the action in the village. Walking out the back porch you might find yourself in the middle of a volleyball game. Walking out the front door you can step right onto a boat to take you to pristine snorkeling and fishing or hiking at a sunken volcano. Our best resource is our people so come share some stories around a bowl of kava. We look forward to your visit!
01 bedroom with a living room The shower is separate and shared but you have your own private restroom HOUSE FACILITIES Garden/ Laundry /Porch / sand beach
The house sits right on the beach of a tropical island about an hour boat ride north of Taveuni. The village on the island has less than 100 local residents. This is authentic Fiji island living at its finest.
  • Wonderful experience with a local fishing village, we left feeling very honored to have been able to spend so much time getting to know them and their beautiful island. Not your usual tourist experience and not for everyone, it’s for the guys wanting something different, to experience something different. Be open and humble and respect their customs and values and you will leave enriched with memories for a lifetime.

  • Willy , Betty and their wider family went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay on their island. Betty and her family's cooking was delicious, we tried many Fijian dishes including fish smoked on an open fire and vegetables in coconut milk. They gave us a flavour of a Fijian fishing village and we were honoured to have been welcomed onto their island.

  • It’s hard to put in words the experience we had in Yanuca - this should tell you something. Far from the typical Fiji tourist route, if you are looking for a lost paradise, remote beach days, fun boat rides, good snorkeling, beautiful landscapes, fresh coconuts opened just for you from the tree nearby, foraging the jungle and the sea for beach barbecues, volleyball fun with the village, impromptu rugby games on the beach, rainy swims with the kids right off the village beach, captivating singing at grog sessions, but above all, true warm human connection, this is the place for you. Thank you Willy for an experience of a lifetime.

    Aurore2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Willy and his family are certainly super hosts. They work hard to make guests feel like part of the Village. This was our second visit to Yanutha and our family loved getting to know all of the people better. Highlights for us were the fabulous music and singing, world class snorkeling on the local reefs, catching tuna, cliff diving and a family bbq on the beach. Thanks for making us feel so welcome, we will come back as soon as we can. Guests should expect a unique experience unlike anything else in the world. Basic but very clean accommodation. Go with Willy’s suggestions for day trips - he knows the weather and local conditions best. Take time to relax in the Village and get to know the kids. We stayed for 9 nights and it was just about perfect. Take insect repellent and lots of sunscreen. Please respect local customs and dress conservatively (women cover shoulders and knees; a sarong and T-shirt is ideal). Ideal gifts include sports gear for kids, dive equipment or just ask Willy before you come. Sevu sevu (kava) for chief can be purchased in Taveuni near the boat ramp, just ask around. Enjoy!

  • We were hoping for an authentic experience of Fijian island life and nature, and we are so grateful for the wonderful experience we had staying at Yanuca with Willy and the rest of the community. Experience of a lifetime. Just don’t tell the whole world about it!

    Julian2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's hard to put into words how incredible this stay was. Living in Yanuca with the lovely village people is the definitive Fijian experience. The home cooked meals from Willy's wife Betty are unbelievable and I highly recommend opting for the lunch and dinner service. Depending on how the fishing is while you are there, you may get to eat some of the freshest fish you can get your hands on. During our stay, Willy was quick to procure fresh lobster, coconut crab, as well as a plethora of different fish. I would also recommend any of the adventure outings that are offered. My wife and I went on several guided hikes on three different islands. We also were lucky enough to join Willy and family on a picnic on a uninhabited island were we went snorkeling while the locals caught an abundance of seafood for everybody to enjoy. The room itself is exactly what is advertised. But this experience was not about the accommodations, it was about the once and a life time chance to spend time with a small Fijian village and everything it has to offer. I can't thank you enough willy!

    Jeremy2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I went to Yanuca for 4 nights. We spent some wonderful days with Willy and the people of the village. The communication and the transportation to the island run on fiji time, but once you get used to that you will enjoy every minute of your stay. Willy is a very attentive and friendly person, who will arrange the best experience for you in Fiji. We can especially recommend the camping trip to your own tropical island. Willy will give you some food and a tent and bring you to another island, near Yanuca. There you can spend a night on your own and try to be independent on an island, where nobody else lives. The village life and the people there are also very interesting to get to know. Especially the daily volleyball match, which you can join, is very fun. The meals are huge, cheap and very delicious. One evening Willy even brought us a big lobster! You should plan to buy around 1kg of Kawa as a gift for the village, which costs around 70 FJD at the moment. It is worth it, because you’ll have something to give to the community and you can also join the Kawa session in the evening. But the best thing about a trip to Yanuca are the unexpected experiences: one day, when we went to another island, we saw dolphins right next to the boat and on our way back to Taveuni, we saw two pilot whales. You can not expect things like these, but if they happen, it will be even better. We would also like to say that 4 nights were definitely not enough time for us, because there is so much to see there! If you can, we definitely recommend you to stay longer than 4 nights! We will definitely try to come back!

    Viki2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute gem! Willy was a fabulous host, and his family and the rest of the village made us feel so welcome. This is a great non-touristy way to experience true Fijian culture and make some lifelong friends. They took my husband out spearfishing to all their good spots so he had the best chance of shooting a big fish. The untouched pristine beaches, walking tracks around the island and remoteness meant you could truly relax and enjoy it all without any distractions! (there is very limited reception for phones) This is a homestay, so don't expect fancy five star resort standards but the accommodation was comfortable and clean and right on the beach (so you can fall asleep to the waves) and there was always plenty of food. There is no doubt we will be back to visit again one day for more adventures!!

    Taveuni, Fiji

Plantation Huts are nestled under swaying coconut palms on the lush rolling hills of Maravu Lodge. This is a great choice for divers, nature-lovers, and adventure seekers, just a short walk from the colourful tropical reefs of the Somosomo Straights and the white sandy beaches of Taveuni's northern tip.
Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Fiji Islands. This unique and opulent opportunity offers couples, families, and perhaps even battered backpackers a place to relax and rejuvenate amid a flourishing postcard-perfect paradise. You can see happiness from here. **THE DESTINATION** Taveuni, aptly named Fiji’s Garden Isle, is the country’s third largest island and is comprised of one very large, but a dormant, volcano. Steeped in nature’s sweetest secrets, with a Mataqali (family) of friendly Fijians charged as her caretakers, the island and surrounding waters are home to the Rainbow Reef, one of many world-famous dive sites; Lake Tagimoucia, the hiding place of the fabled Tagimoucia flower; Bouma National Heritage Park, Waitavala Waterslide and Lavena Point, which each boast several majestic mid-jungle waterfalls; as well as Ravilevu Nature Preserve and Taveuni Forest, two of the island’s most prolific bird sanctuaries. Incredibly, the island offers even more. Eco-industry abounds here, keeping the island in its presently pristine condition. The land is laden with organically grown fruit, root and vegetable gardens. Fresh fish are sustainably farmed. Even the sweet-smelling coconut and frangipani massage oils are sourced from the islands own natural resources and created using practices passed down through generations of earth-aware Fijians. With so much natural beauty, tradition and inherent culture, it’s easy to see why discerning vacationers and enchanted expats, along with their fellow Fijians, have been hiding away here all these years. **THE ACCOMMODATION** Maravu, the sprawling resort of which your private rental is a part, is nestled nicely between Welagi and Naselesele villages, right around the corner from the Matei Airport, and within walking distance to the beach, bus and local convenience shops. Tropical paradise looms at every angle… **THE DEAL** A slight twist on the conventional is what really makes Maravu surprisingly special. This remote resort has been reimagined into a humble lodge, where local interaction and eco-living are the order of the day. Structures on the property are provided with Fijian-made candles (and bright twinkling stars) to light their night once the sun has set. Staff operate serenely, on Fiji time, and can often be found conversing quietly with guests or giving weaving, cooking and other village-life lessons. Happily, they share their culture with any eager ears they happen to come across. Although your private Plantation Hut is set on the lower slopes of the larger resort compound, you are welcome at any time to join other guests in resort activities or make use of the restaurant, bar, pool or spa. Alternatively, you may choose to relax in the reclusiveness of your tropical sanctuary and allow our smiling staff to provide you with in-room food, beverage and massage services. Our concierge booking desk is also at your disposal, and our local team is ready at all times to share their secret island knowledge to help you plan-out, make reservations and schedule transportation for your idyllic day.
We are surrounded by beautiful, simple island villages. It is important to respect local dress and customs when exploring the neighbourhood.
  • You will be a nirmal guest at the Maravu resort but booked through here. Nice place though!

  • Our place at Maravu was perfect! The island of Taveuni is a jungle wonderland and Maravu is fully immersed in it. We felt like we were in Tarzan waking up each morning. The hosts at the lodge are super helpful and there are plenty of scheduled activities to keep you busy and help you explore the island. It’s a great place to meet fellow travelers. Definitely recommend!

Set up on the 3rd floor of this 4 storey building in the middle of Naqara town, our Guest Room has a beautiful of view of the left hand side of the town. It has one double mattress and a single mattress. The back porch has one looking up the mountains of Taveuni whereby Mt Uluiqalau sits and is also where the famous lake is and at this time of year can easily find the sacred flower, Tagimoucia in full bloom---the flower that is unique in its nature and found no where else in the world let alone Fiji. The front porch or balcony overlooks the little town and also has a beautiful view of the Somosomo straight, looking out to Vanua Levu (the 2nd largest island). All the other spaces are shared with my family and that is the bathroom, kitchen and living room. I have set up a little coffeeshop with 2 tables at the front porch of our apartment and serve Coffees, Smoothies, Milkshakes wraps, cakes pies and pastries.
We live in the Town Centre of this island Taveuni and the neighbouring village is the chiefly village of Somosomo that houses the Paramount Chief of Cakaudrove known as the Tui Cakau. It would appreciated if our Guests could be respectful in their dress code if visiting the village i.e. long skirts or sarongs with cap sleeve tops for ladies and t-shirts and shorts for men, with no hats or caps.
  • This is the best place to visit in Fiji! We spent two weeks travelling many islands and nothing compares to the time we had here with Amo and her beautiful family. From the moment we arrived we felt a part of her family and felt comfortable in her beautiful home in the wonderful village of SomoSomo. Luke and I felt like we had struck gold finding this Airbnb. The children were so much fun and took us to local attractions which was amazing. Each meal was shared with friends and family, this home was never short of great company. Amo went above and beyond to share with us the Fijian lifestyle and community. We can’t wait to come back and visit! You have not been to Fiji if you have not been to Amos house!

  • The accommodation with Amoreena and her family is special in many ways. It is a real homestay. The accommodation is no longer in the apartment described, but in a small wooden house about 100m away on the same street. But here too you have your own room and a mattress on the floor. The house is getting a bit old and in need of renovation. The living conditions are also rather simple. 9 people live in a relatively narrow space without visitors. So you're in the middle of this family's life and have a little less privacy than you might expect. In the end you have to be willing to compromise on comfort and space. But if you get involved, you get something that you can't pay with money: a lot of humanity, warmth and a family connection. It was definitely the right decision for us. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts. All family members were very friendly and naturally took us in their midst. Amoreena helped us plan and organize our stay and trips. We were kindly accompanied by a son to the Water Slides. She could also get us a rental car at a fair price. We always ate with the family in the evenings and it was delicious. The breakfast included in the price was plentiful and we were asked about our wishes. The pancakes and banana bread were delicious. If you're interested in people, the living conditions of a simple family on Taveuni, you've come to the right place. We felt very comfortable and found it a shame to leave the family after 4 days.

  • Amo, Tabua and their family were excellent hosts who treated us as one of their own. They provided us with an authentic Fijian homestay experience, cooking us delicious, traditional Fijian and Indian meals, and arranging transport for all of our sightseeing activities. There is always something happening at this warm and busy household, with visits from friends and family -this is a peek into a true Fijian household and their everyday life. Would definitely recommend this listing for anyone seeking an authentic Fijian homestay experience! Vinaka Amo and family!

  • I had such a lovely time at Amo and Tabua Homestay. If you’re looking for a nice Fijian experience, I totally recommend you to go there. From the first moment, they make me feel part of this amazing family, which I’m really grateful for. They took good care of me, gave me all the good tips to make my time on the island, and cooked some delicious Fijian meals. They are generous, and helpful, you will definetly have a good time if you stay with them !!

  • Amo’s family is a lovely family. They have been very kind from the first moment we arrived to their house and they treated us as if we would be one more of them. They invited us to go with them to a family bbq for the Fiji day and then we went to swim to the creek and it was an amazing experience. Their food is really tasty as well. I recommend it! If I come to Fiji definitely I will come back again to visit my fijian family. I wish you the best and hope to see you soon :)

  • We had such a nice stay with Amo, Tabua and all their beautiful family, we recommend at 100% if you want to live the true authentic Fijian experience. It's not an hotel but it's the kind of trip you will never forget. Amo and Grace her daughter cooked so delicious Fijian meals for us, we had a tasty, typical, different and various meal everyday . Amo's banana cake and chocolate cake are just pure gemmes ! Grace took us to the water slides with Coucou, Max and all the kids we had a lot of fun. Nena the grandma was so nice with us and the highlight was obviously the incredible lovvo Tabua, Amo and their friends and family cooked for us. Stunning. I would definetely recommend at 100% if you want a real Fijian lifestyle experience.

Stress mysteriously disappears as you ascend the 75 steps to your treetop retreat, turn and take in the view of Somosomo Strait stretching as far as the eye can see. Paradise looms at every angle… especially from the sprawling deck which runs the length of the structure and houses chaise lounge chairs, outdoor dining area and even a secret bamboo shower where you can soap up in style beneath the sunny (or starry) skies. Inside, you’ll find the hardwood floors coupled with locally hand-made furniture make quite a cozy sitting and sleeping space. Soft leather warrior-style club chairs create the perfect space to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book, a beautifully draped four-poster bed sets the scene for romance uninhibited, and if things get too hot, just fold open your glass paneled front wall to let in the soft sea breeze. **THE DEAL** A slight twist on the conventional is what really makes Maravu surprisingly special. • We loved staying in the treehouse. The Maravu Lodge had a pretty distinct backpacker vibe, and the amount of people smoking cigarettes in the common areas was offputting, but the house itself was lovely and the staff at the lodge was great, and very helpful with assistance planning outings. It was nice to have a space that was set far back from the main area. Bring a flashlight as the path to and from the house was not lit. There was not a safe in the room, which was concerning, but we didn't have any issues, but we made sure to lock up at night. Our favorite thing to do was sit on the large porch at dusk and watch the huge fruit bats fly around!

    Mary2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Treehouse is stunning and one of the best deals on the island—where else can you get a large modernist home on the edge of a mountain overlooking the sea? Others have pointed out that there is a climb of many steps to get there (not a big deal to us), WiFi is spotty at best and that the lounge chairs pictured have been replaced by plastic versions. That aside, we would come back here in a heartbeat. It was the perfect end to our vacation.

    Candice2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • I love the touches of flowers on the bed with the swans out of the towels

    Cindy2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is a great little diamond in the rough. Nice location though it’s a long walk from the reception area to the stairway up to the unit but that’s to be expected. Some paths are not well lit so it is wise to bring your own flashlight for walking around the resort at night. The resort picked us up and delivered are bags up the stairs to the treehouse and brought them down upon checkout as well. All around a nice relaxing place to stay Bruce and Val

    Bruce2019-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a perfectly lovely stay at the Treehouse at Maravu Lodge on Taveuni Island. The space is lovely with traditional Fijian furniture, hardwood floors, and a large deck with a great view is the jungle garden and beyond to the see. There is AC (nice given the jungle climate), and we actually got a bit cold at night! Fresh flowers await you every day when you return to your room. I would say that this Airbnb probably isn’t for everyone, rather is for a more adventurous traveler. As many other reviewers have mentioned, it is a bit of a walk uphill or up several sets of stairs to get to the property (about 10 floors per my iPhone health app). Also, the power was on and off throughout our stay (fortunately off mainly at night), and, separately, the water entirely went out one morning, but was back on by the time we returned from our day hike in the late afternoon. There is much less furniture in the property than pictured—no cushions on the outside loungers, no dining table outside or inside, which means that there was essentially no other furniture on the deck besides two plastic loungers (you have to get a little creative if you want to sit outside in comfort). There no kitchen at this Airbnb, although there is a fridge and tea kettle. Finally (and let me qualify this by saying it was no fault of Henry, or of Maravu Lodge), we had arranged a transfer to the airport on our final day with AJ, a neighborhood man who had previously picked us up on arrival and later driven us around the island to hikes. But when it was time to depart, he never showed up! Fortunately the lovely front desk staff at Maravu was able to arrange a quick transfer to the airport, but it did create some stress as we were sure that we were going to miss our flight back to Nadi. For future guests, I would recommend avoiding relying on AJ for tours/transfers, going exclusively through Maravu Lodge instead. One last thing to note—no restaurants and very few tour companies on Taveuni seemed to accept credit cards, including the one at Maravu Lodge. Would recommend coming to Taveuni with enough cash to cover your meals, laundry, taxi rides, groceries, and tours. Otherwise, the setting of the treehouse is beautiful, I loved the open spaces, deck and floor to ceiling windows, exploring the tropical garden, chasing butterflies and stargazing (which was great from the deck!). For the traveler who doesn’t mind a few idiosyncrasies in their remote island Airbnb, this place is magical. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Henry was a superb host! The Treehouse experience was exceptional! Also, the staff at Maravu were very hospitable and accommodating. The location is perfect with its proximity to restaurants, the beach and the airport. My family would like to commend the transportation service provider (Ajay) who was very accommodating, flexible to our change plans and made our tours informative too; Ted who was our tour guide and showed us the adventure and on how to enjoy the sceneries; andrew who was our snorkeling guide who accommodated our last minute request and who arranged our snorkeling adventure well; and the reception who was very accommodating and helped us in our tours. Well done!

  • Honestly, stunning house. If you go to that island, you must stay at that house. It’s a magical place. I took my girlfriend there, super romantic. Super close to the airport. The resort has a restaurant with the best food in the island. The only minor thing to consider is you have quite some stairs to get to the house, it’s not for everyone. I’d gladly stay here again. Cheers

Guests will enjoy a complete two bedroom home with a new large covered deck with ocean views. Inside there is a full kitchen and a beautiful new river rock shower with hot water. You will have wifi access throughout the house and on the deck. Solar electricity is 24 hours a day but please no hairdryers or heat generating appliances since we rely on battery power and these will drain them quickly. We are the only accommodation is this price range that offers a two bedroom house with a full kitchen, power and wifi 24/7, hot showers, fans in both rooms, ocean views, organic gardens, and free use of kayaks (if available) and bicycles.
Matei is a beautiful little beach town with shops and a few restaurants, all within walking distance from the house. Amazing views, white sand beaches, waterfalls and some of the friendliest people on earth all make Taveuni an unforgettable experience. The bikes are a great way to get around the local area and explore new beaches or villages. There are 4 small islands just across the street from the house where you can take the kayaks out to explore. On the third island you will find a nice white sand beach to pull up on and have a picnic or just relax, you will almost be guaranteed to have it all to yourself. The snorkeling from here is also very nice!
  • My wife and I had an amazing experience staying at the Raintree Bure!! From going to the waterfalls, kayaking, fishing, and having the privilege to stay in such a nice home. Could really tell Jay and Shauna take a lot of pride in their place, thank you guys for the vacation of a lifetime, We’ll be back!

    Jess2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jay and Shauna are great host! They are very helpful, and the main house is spacious and clean with beautiful view! We had an amazing experience in Taveuni.

  • Perfect location to stay on Taveuni! Directly across the road from the beach, just down the road from two grocery stores, restaurants nearby if cooking isn’t your thing. The bikes were great for heading to the grocery store. They are cruising bikes (and the seats are quite low) though so keep that in mind & don’t plan to ride very far. The kayaks were sit on top style and perfect for a paddle out to honeymoon island. Don’t forget your snorkel gear - tons to see by the islands!! The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and there’s a folder of local information. The neighbor was very kind and checked in on us regularly offering to help with anything we needed. The owners are great at communicating and we’re very kind when Cyclone Tino delayed our arrival by a day and a half. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Highly recommend this stay!

  • I had a fabulous stay at Raintree Bure. It was a great home base for what I wanted to do. Jay was very responsive to messages/questions beforehand. Robert and Vinna were always helpful and available when needed during my stay, without being intrusive. I definitely took advantage of harvesting fruits, vegetables and herbs from the garden. In some cases, I had to use Google lens to find out what I had picked and how to prepare it, which was an adventure itself! It's worth doing a tour of the front and backyard gardens to see what's available before grocery shopping. Hot water is not always available, but this is easily remedied for kitchen purposes with the stove. It's a bit warm but the fans definitely help and all the windows are screened, so you can keep them open. The public beach across the street is convenient and quite popular with locals. The available sand shrinks quite a bit at high tide, but is great for lounging and looking for interesting shells/coral at low tide. Overall, this place is a really great value!

    Christine2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Raintree Bure! We enjoyed the beautiful garden and ate every meal on the front porch. Robert and Vinna were amazing hosts and always willing to help us and answer our questions. They even let us use their phone to call Taveuni Ocean Sports to plan our dive trips! Vinna’s cooking was also delicious as was their fresh ice cream. The book of local tips was especially helpful and we also enjoyed the kayaks and bicycles. If you want a little piece of quiet in a beautiful setting, this place is it! Thank you for letting us stay and hopefully we will be back someday!

    Molly2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect place to explore the Taveuni! Very close to the airport ( probably the smallest one you have ever been to), to a magnificent snorkeling coral reef, to groceries stores, and a local community. You won't regent staying at this place. Kayaks were a great benefit!

    Katya2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for a cute place to relax and unwind. The front yard is amazing. The place is super clean and you’re only a 2 minute walk to the ocean. Very close to the airport and lots of local restaurants. Jay and Shauna offer a lot of recommendations for activities and other things that fit your expectations. 100% recommend!

  • This is a comfortable house, very clean, and well-located in Matei. Our hosts responded to all our messages quickly and we were well looked after during our stay. Thanks!

Bula! That's how we say "Welcome" in Fijian. We can't wait to welcome you to Taveuni! While the house is basic, it has everything you need for a memorable vacation. We hope The Pineapple House provides a cultural immersion for you and allows us to show you the real Fiji. Stunning ocean views! White sand beach just steps away. Three Bedrooms Two Bathrooms Note: The house power supply is by solar and a portable gen that runs from 6pm till 10pm The house only has cold water.
The Pineapple House is basic and modest, but the views are breathtaking! Enjoy an unobstructed ocean view looking out into the beautiful SomoSomo Strait. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, The Pineapple House can accommodate 5-6 guests. The kitchen contains the essentials (stove, sink, basic cookware, and dishes) and you’re within walking distance to three convenience/grocery stores. Fresh towels, bed linens, soap, toilet paper, and other essentials are provided for your comfort. Housekeeping is available. Please note the house currently has only cold water. The Pineapple House is in the heart of Matei, the most desirable area of Taveuni. You have easy walking access to everything you need and, most importantly, the beach! Wifi is available in the house 24/7. The majority of the island lives without electricity during the day, and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to unplug and unwind from the stresses of civilization.
Matei is a charming outpost on the northern tip of Taveuni Island. The island is safe and quiet. The Pineapple House has a prime location in Matei next to a gorgeous beach and within walking distance to three convenience/grocery stores. The airport is a 5-10 minute walk away. A few small restaurants are available within walking distance as well. Once you see the beauty of the area, you'll understand why we have a few 5-star resorts in Matei as well. Just down the road there are a few local villages. Matei provides a wonderful location where you can interact with locals and get a glimpse into the local culture.
  • We loved the Pineapple House, lovely and friendly hosts. You must stop at their ice cream cart at the edge of the property. Although the house is not modernized, it is very spacious, clean, and welcoming. We would highly recommend, and happily stay again. Travel to shops and restaurants was straight forward. Renting a car was easy thru our hosts contact as well. Thank you so much for our great time in Taveuni!!!! Vinaka

  • Very large house with sea view, very quiet, grocery stores not far for food, large kitchen! Robert sells ice cream next door and is always ready for a little chat!

    Mario2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nice stay and the view is beautiful! His ice cream is also very good! I recommand!

    Mathilde2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Roberts place was magical! I will be staying there every time I come to Taveuni. Robert was so helpful and friendly. Having the ice cream in the front yard was a wonderful bonus. I would recommend his place to anyone that is visiting the island!!

    Shanna2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Robert is the embodiment of "Hakuna Matata". He's not fazed by anything! All smiles! We had a lovely time in the Pineapple House. Taveuni is beautiful and Robert was very hospitable. He was so accomodating and let us stay longer due to us being stranded by a cyclone! If you plan on cooking or bringing perishable foods, we would recommend bringing an esky, ice is available down the road. There is a fridge which I thought was fine, but my father in law wasn't so sure and wanted the esky as backup. Robert and his family have an ice-cream van out the front, the ice cream is incredible!!! I highly recommend you try it.

    Jazz2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Robert is an amazing host, showed us the facilities and how they all work. Spotless clean with consumables stocked. Gave us all the privacy we needed. He lives in another house in the same yard so readily available if needed. One gets used to the cold showers but the sea is just a mins walk for a dip on a white sandy beach. 2 shops within yards if one needs basic groceries. Close to the airport. Highly recommended!

    Sharmila2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing time at the Pineapple House and would definitely return if we could! Amazing location just across from the beach, there’s also a freshwater spring/pool just down the road, and supermarkets really close. We had an incredible time and the local tips that Robert gave us really helped us get the most out of our time here! Such great value for money 😊

We are happy to provide round trip airport transportation!
The house has one of the larger kitchens you will find here on the island so for those who enjoy cooking you will feel right at home. Full gas stove with oven and fridge with freezer. There is a spacious dining area and living room as well as a covered deck out front to enjoy the breeze with a view of the bright blue pacific ocean. We are on solar power here so we do just ask that you do not use any hairdryers or appliances that generate heat as this will deplete the system fast. However fans, lights, fridge and other electronics are no problem but please do remember to turn off all fans, lights and any other devices when not in use. You will not find a better deal in Matei for a complete two bedroom house with a full kitchen, wifi, hot showers, ceiling fans, 24 hour solar power, great ocean views and kayaks and bikes all included! Be one of the first to enjoy the brand new master bedroom suite we just added on.

  • A beautiful location. We loved the view from the porch overlooking a huge yard and then stunning views of the water. Robert and Vinna were helpful and friendly. A few restaurants within walking distance. Others a short taxi ride. A grocery store was close and had basic things you might need. Jay responded quickly and was so helpful with info about Taveuni. We would book there again.

  • We spent 12 days at Raintree Gardens and are so happy we did! Amazing location, a quiet simple lifestyle with the family over Christmas. All communication with Jay was friendly, polite, prompt and informative. Robert and Vinna, the caretakers, and their children were gorgeous to live next to. Vinna cooked lovely food for us on two occasions and we also enjoyed the traditional Fijian lovo for Christmas, delicious! Vinna gives a wonderful massage on the deck of the property, highly recommended. Snorkelling and diving from here were outstanding. The bikes on the property allowed us an easy ride to Prince Charles beach and the reef in front of the Dive Cafe for snorkelling. The kayaks were well utilised to get out to the island for more snorkelling and exploring. We took a good amount of cash to pay for everything. Taxi transport to Lavena Coastal walk and Bouma waterfalls by Sukh was easily organised. He stays with the car while you walk, swim and explore. They are a must to appreciate the amazing beauty of Taveuni. Yes, we did need to conserve our power usage so that there was enough to keep the overhead fans going at night. Thats OK. Yes, I did wear ear plugs at night as recommended by a previous person, so I didn't hear the barking dogs on the island as they sms'd their mates on their daily activities! That worked well. Yes, we did enjoy the food that grows on the property as part of our daily meals...everything grows so quickly here. We particularly enjoyed the sorbet that Vinna and her children sell from a cart on the neighbouring property, so many delicious flavours to choose from....made on Taveuni. We would return to Taveuni, and this property in particular, in a heartbeat! This beat staying in a hotel/resort without a doubt.

  • I had such a great time at Raintree. I was resting for two nights before my flight back to Nadi. I went diving and they came to pick me up right at the door. It’s a great base to have in an excellent location. The bikes were great to have. The kitchen was handy as I had a chance to cook pasta for dinner on the first night that lasted me for my whole stay. I was a happy guest!

    Mohamed2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place. The caretakers operate a farm next door and are super friendly and always around should you need anything. There is plenty of fruit, peppers, and eggplant to pick around the property for free! Two limited item small grocery stores are within a short walking distance. There is an ice cream stand at the front of the property which we got ice cream from everyday. The kayaks are great but the current and wind chop out front can make it difficult. Time your kayak trip and know your ability. The bikes made getting to local restaurants easy. Taveuni is a great island in general. If your are scuba certified definitely do as many dives as you can with taveuni ocean sports. If you aren’t certified, consider getting certified with them while you are on your trip. There is no better place in the world to do so. The waterfalls are spectacular on the island. The water slides are fun, but take all of your stuff with you down the slides. We had a hat and sunglasses stolen after leaving them at the bottom of the trail. Security at the raintree seemed very good. We had no issues there and always felt very safe. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. At a place like this island, you feel like you are living in luxury when you have a refrigerator and ceiling fans, both of which come with raintree gardens. There is WiFi, but it is recommended that streaming be kept to a minimum. That’s not a problem since there are better things to do than watch Netflix on Taveuni. The power is solar during the day and battery at night so all of the lighting is led and all electrical is designed for power conservation. We were able to charge our camera batteries, dive light batteries, phones, and a small computer every day and run the ceiling fan all night. We probably use a little more power than some with all the gear we had. The power did go out for a couple hours on our first night, but I think it was unrelated to usage. The caretakers fixed the issue first thing in the morning. Otherwise we had no issues with power or internet. Only other consideration is that it is hot and humid in Taveuni and without air conditioning the windows are open all day and all night and that means you can hear the neighbors and they can hear you. You shouldn’t expect a lot of privacy here but the island makes you feel like everyone is family anyway. I’d highly recommend staying here and I plan to come back some day!

    Tony and Jessie2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Our stay was absolutely perfect! The location is right across the street from a beach where we took full advantage of the kayaks at the property and visited multiple islands right off the shore for snorkeling. Jay and Shawna are always accessible through messages, and the property caretakers, Vinna and Robert, are readily available if you need anything. Having the bikes was extremely useful, although you do not need them as two small grocery stores and restaurants are within walking distance. We took full advantage of having Vinna prepare home cooked meals for us which were absolutely delicious and allowed us to enjoy multiple picnics during our day trips. We also had a couples massage right at the house on the front porch overlooking the beach and islands which was one of the best things we did during our stay. The house manual upon arrival provides ample recommendations for activities and dining. We basically lived off of the recommendations and were never disappointed! In addition to the above, we took a fishing day trip, a day trip trip to the waterfalls, and also visited a pearl farm. After fishing, took our catch to Vinna who prepared the most amazing fish curry and kokodu for us to enjoy—what an experience! Although we never had a bad meal, dinner at Tramonto is also highly recommended for lobster and fresh fish, as well as an incredible view over the water! Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and without a doubt will return as soon as possible. Thank you, Jay and Shawna, for an incredible experience that we will never forget!!!

  • This place was wonderful. Very quite and relaxing. The people around town are very friendly. Getting checked in was very easy. I would definitely recommend this home for someone looking to get away from their busy lives.

  • Such a great location, super clean and a massive garden, about a minute from the beach where you an swim at high tide. We felt perfectly safe and comfortable and the hosts were lovely, so good with communication and local advice! You won’t regret your stay here, and the free kayaks and bikes open up the rest of Taveuni for your exploration! 😊

    Ariane2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay and wished we had more days to spend there. The accommodations are just like you see in the photos. We slept in the smaller room which had a comfortable mattress and plenty of cooling with the ceiling fan. Vinna was helpful and available for anything we needed. A small grocery store is within a short walk and the view from the porch added a feeling of privacy since it's back from the road. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Sharon’s place is a total gem. If you want a taste of real Fiji whilst staying in a beautifully crafted house look no further. The house is gorgeous with a shower you won’t want to leave and a view that is totally mesmerizing - I could have spent the whole week on the deck looking at the view from the hammock. But the real highlight is the incredible care and hospitality I was soaked in. Delicious daily breakfasts delivered to the deck, fresh flowers placed on pillows, daily house keeping, drives to and from the beach whenever I wanted, and all sorts of suggestions on what to do to make the most of my time. I kayaked, swam, hiked, had massages on the deck, shopped in the town, visited the church. It was all incredible. I had a fantastic week, where I was cared for in a way you’d be hard beat to find in a luxury resort and I have left with not just happy memories but new friends . I’d return in a shot and if I could give Vakanananu Retreat ten stars, I most certainly would! Thank you Sharon and Grant for creating a slice of heaven in the paradise of Taveuni island!!!!

  • We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Vankanananu retreat. We had around Fiji and had previously spent 2 nights at another stay in Taveuni but none of these places came even close to this. We were looked after by Buba in Sharon’s absence who was the best host we could have asked for. He organised a brilliant fishing and snorkelling trip for us which is exactly what we were after and cooked us an amazing dinner on our final night. The house itself is in a great location and couldn’t be more idealic and peaceful and had everything we could possibly want. We will be recommending this to all of our friends and can’t wait to come back soon. Thank you Buba!

    James2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect spot. Perfect hosts. We couldn’t have asked for any better.

  • We have just had the most amazing week-long honeymoon based at Sharon's retreat in the hills of Taveuni. Sharon went out of her way to make us feel so welcomed and cared for throughout our time - from transferring us to and from the airport or the local shops to providing a house that is kitted up to make you feel like you've just walked in the door of your own home...she's thought of it all! And what a lovely lady to communicate with throughout the week, she's thoughtful and aware of providing a space that is our own and ensures that her beautiful house cleaners keep the place spotless. If you're after a quiet home or retreat away from the noise of the main road and generators from other places then this is the place for you. Thank you Sharon, we'll be back!

    James2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t think it’s possible to write a review that would do this place justice — this is (by far) the best Airbnb experience we have ever had. My husband and I traveled to Taveuni on our honeymoon and stayed at Sharon and Grant’s guest suite. After staying there, I cannot imagine staying at a hotel or resort. You have absolute privacy with a sweeping view of the ocean, which makes for an incredible getaway. Plus, Sharon and her team go above and beyond to make your trip as easy as possible. She kindly picks you up and drops you off at the airport, staff greet you when you arrive, there is daily cleaning, and they have the sweetest dog whom we already miss. Sharon even provides a phone with credit so that you can make local calls to taxis etc and you can bring the mobile with you which is 100% helpful when traveling in Fiji. Taveuni is also a tricky place to find common amenities — for example, you have to book any restaurants in advance and supermarkets close very early — so the daily breakfast the Vakanananu team provides and the kitchen in the suite are absolute life-savers. Also delicious! On our last evening we paid a small amount to have a private 3-course meal prepared and served to us on the suite’s porch and the staff went above and beyond to make it special for us. The Airbnb is also very environmentally conscious (yay compost!) which we very much appreciated. I cannot give enough praise to Sharon, Grant, Emily, and Peni for all their hospitality. We will surely come back! If you can, book this place as fast as you’re able!

    Sara2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very lucky to have stumbled upon Sharon’s place. As first time visitors to Tavenui, we couldn’t be sure if the location was good, or how the accommodation would stand up to the pictures, and alternative places to stay. Nevertheless, we could not have asked for more! After traveling the length of both coasts, we wouldn’t want to stay in any other area. The house was thoroughly kitted out with all we might need, and Sharon went out of her way to get us some other food items we had a hard time sourcing from the local stores. The house is located in a serene setting, up a steep hill from the main road. A 6-star experience, all around!

    Jez2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Vakanananu was fantastic! And with only 3 days, too short. The house itself is just beautiful and the perfect size for 2. We enjoyed sitting amongst the canopy and listening to the birds and fruit bats chirping to each other. Very nice hot water shower and comfortable bed, with a perfectly stocked kitchen. But perhaps the best part was Sharon and her crew, including her little dog Moana. We were greeted by Sharon at the airport, and then her staff met us with a welcoming song. We were served breakfast daily including delicious home baked goodies and eggs, and housekeeping daily. On day 2 I fell ill with the flu, and Sharon stepped in and took care of me like my own mother would have, complete with a plethora of medicines and some ginger lemon honey tea. She also provided a cell phone to use during our stay and generously offered to drive us up and down the road to the main road for easy access to our dive operators. She went above and beyond as an Airbnb host, and are so thankful Vakanananu was our first stay of our trip to Fiji. Vinaka Sharon!

  • This hidden gem in the palm grove with ocean views is the most beautiful place we stayed in Taveuni. Totally brand new, sparkling clean with the most delicious breakfast. If you’re looking for unique, amazing accommodation with stunning views and outstanding hospitality, look no further. Honestly, we could go on and on with superlatives. But we loved it here so much, we extended our stay for another week. Thanks Sharon and Grant for having us.

We are located on an old coconut plantation surrounded by a white sandy beach and rain forest. No roads, no disco, no TV - just pure bliss. The word famous white wall and the rainbow reef are just minutes away for diving and snorkeling. Do as much or as little as you like. Let yourself be pampered in our beach SPA, go for a walk up the mountain or just lie in your hammock and watch the turtles go by. Our friendly Fijian staff, will make sure you are well taken care of. Let your soul rest:-)
We are very secluded in the Northern Part of Fiji. Minutes away from all the dive sites on the Rainbow Reef. Excellent diving, snorkeling , hiking or just do nothing::-) accessible by boat only.
We are in a small bay directly on the Rainbow Reef with great snorkeling and diving,, off the beaten track. There is no road access and it is very private. There is a PADI dive shop, restaurant, bar and SPA on the premises.
  • The cabin is rudimentary and very simple. The bed is fine and you will find hot water! The place is magical, you can swim with turtles from the beach and enjoy excellent Fijian meals made on site. If you want to dive at the rainbow barrier, this is the best place. The team is excellent, you are 10 minutes by boat from the dive sites. It is a small complex so right away you feel like family. Little more: we know why it's called Dolphin bay! Hope you have this chance!

  • A unique site for nature lovers true hospitality; very nice hosts just as it is at the end of the world, accessible by the sea only, and that's good, provide some flexibility for departures without stress

  • This place is off the beaten Taveuni track. Great reefs straight off the beach , less rain and very professionally managed dives. The simple accommodation suited us perfectly

I live in a two-bedroom home located on a private beach locally known as Vianuca. We are situated on Qamea Island which lies on the Northern tip of Taveuni and with a 45 minutes boat ride you can get to us. The Property faces the back of the 7 star Resort, Laucala Island Resort owned by Red Bull.
We have 2 bedrooms. One is a twin share and the other is a Double Private. Our home is located just 2 seconds away from the beach and the sound of the waves and brustling of leaves is all the sounds accompanied by the sounds of the birds.
Our property is located on the remote side of Qamea Island. Our nearest neighbor would be about 100km away. Its only 1 house with just a family that lives in it. Its very remote yet peaceful in its own way.

Lomani (meaning in love) is a romantic paradise for couples on an island unaffected by time, void of worry and spoilt by beauty. Lomani is a private house offering total privacy on a cliff top with infinity pool, day beds and a million dollar view. Upon arrival at Taveuni airport you will be greeted by Rosie our full time housekeeper. Once settled, you can relax with a freshly squeezed juice from our garden. Rosie will introduce you to Lomani and help you with your dining preferences and stay.
SPECIAL OFFER JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2020 - $250 USD PER NIGHT INC AIRPORT TRANSFERS & FIJIAN TAXES We discovered this piece of paradise whilst on our honeymoon in 2006. Best suited for couples, honeymooners, divers, adventure seekers and anyone who wants to relax! We have styled Lomani on what we would look for in a private property - privacy, space, ambience and charm. Our dream was created with you in mind. Lomani truly is a unique romantic paradise. Lomani is set on 2 beautiful acres and is fenced and gated to ensure full privacy and security. A unique 2 person love swing is also in our garden for you to rest, read a book or take some cool selfies! We offer in house dining and a huge list of activities that we can help you with. Depending on your stay, you may want to just relax and chill out with daily coconut massages at sunset, or for the adventurous, horse riding on the beach and hiking to a waterfall. Some of the activities we offer are: snorkeling with Manta Rays, Island hopping, beach picnics, Coastal fishing, Scuba diving & snorkeling on the world famous rainbow reef, forest hike, beach horse riding, hiking the Bouma national heritage park water-falls, the lavena coastal walk (and kayak) bird watching at nabogiono and lastly, visiting the famous International Date Line. The Lomani Meal Plan offers 3 different meal plans for those who want to totally relax whilst enjoying Lomani to its fullest. We only use local seasonal fresh produce inspired by Fiji's tropical culture. Our chef has a talent for fresh and fragrant cuisine. If you just let Rosie know your dietary requirements, he is usually very flexible and creative with meal options! All meals are served by Lomani staff on our deck or inside the villa. Other alternatives are cooking yourself in our fully self contained kitchen or dining in the restaurants in town. Most of our guests choose to finish on their last night our traditional fijian Lovo. This is a fijian tradition of food cooked in an earth oven over volcanic rocks. It truly is memorable.
Taveuni is Fiji's third largest island, also known as the Garden Island. Survivor was recently filmed here on the island! We are located on a cliff top overlooking the ocean.
  • Lomani is the perfect place to spend a holiday in Fiji. The host Saskia has put together a lovely seaside home that affords all the tropical comforts one could as for. Taveuni lives up to its name as The Garden Island and is truly spectacular. Rosie and the staff were excellent and ensured all of our needs were met. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Lomani is a magical place and will always be in our hearts. Rosie and the other staff was so kind and helpful. Thanks! We did many awesome activities on the island. Only downside of our stay was the villa water system. The shower had a very low water pressure and no hot water for our entire stay (5 days).

  • Wow. Came for the view and the outdoor space and it did not disappoint. This is the place to stay on Taveuni. We didn’t realize the rental came with such wonderful staff members - they made our stay comfortable and easy. We hope to be back one day!

  • Lomani is truly a magical place, and my husband and I were glad we spent 6 nights there to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Taveuni is a wonderful, quirky place - a very different feel than the other islands we visited, and these idiosyncrasies are part of what make Lomani a unique and beautiful experience. The absolute best thing about it is the people. The property is expansive, lush and gorgeous. Actually, it’s so beautiful it’s almost absurd. When I posted photos on Facebook everyone said they didn’t look real - like a travel mag photo shoot - but it really is that beautiful there. The whole place is designed to be comfortable and it is - the bed is great, the furniture indoors and outdoors is ideal for relaxing. The kitchen has the amenities needed to prep basic meals. Fijians are wonderful, warm, welcoming people, but the people you encounter at Lomani are beyond compare. They balanced thoughtfulness and attentiveness with being respectful of our privacy. Anything we needed, at any time, was not a problem. Rides, tours, boating, stops to pick up food - they were accommodating, flexible and generous. Rosie and Dan felt like family within a few days. One day we were out and my husband’s back and neck were giving him trouble - within just a few hours Rosie arranges to have massage therapist set up waiting for us upon our return. The meal plan option is absolutely worth it. Food for tourists varies greatly in its quality in Fiji, but every meal they prepared for us was excellent, and we say that as foodies who have traveled extensively. The table was set beautifully (and differently each time!) and we enjoyed our flavourful, fresh meals looking out over the sea. The chefs who come know how to source the best local ingredients. You get professional chefs, but also fish that someone’s auntie or cousin or neighbour caught just a few hours ago, and spinach from someone’s garden. The varied and abundant fruit comes right from the property. Absolutely be sure request the Lovo dinner one night - what an experience! Also, make use of their offers to take you snorkeling, exploring, etc. We were so glad we did. We are both introverts and prefer to travel just us, but we got a lot more out of it because Rosie and Dan know every inch of the island and the straights. They are also just easy-going, wonderful, fun and considerate people to be around. So clearly, as you can see in the photos, this place is dripping in luxury for a very reasonable price. However, as much as it looks like a resort and offers the amenities of a resort (and more!) you need to be aware that in some ways this place is very rustic...which they are upfront about, but one look at those photos and those services and it is easy to forget - it is NOT a resort. While previous reviews have mentioned power, this was not an issue for us. However, guests should know that not only is the shower open, the rest of the bathroom basically is too. There is a roof, and it is enclosed for privacy, but it is all open to the outdoor shower. This place leaves you feeling very connected to Mother Nature. The ocean breeze streams through, but more blustery wind comes through too at times. I loved it - being in tune to all the nuances and moods of Mother Nature - but it isn’t for everyone. The windows are screened, but nature still comes and goes, so if you are going to lose your mind over some geckos on the ceiling in the evening (who chirp and offer the service of eating any bugs that night make their way inside) or, as I discovered one hilarious night, a toad in the bathroom, you may want to go stay at a sanitized resort where there is a tight seal around your sliding glass doors and they spray for bugs and everything is very manicured and the wilderness is much less present. It’s a trade off that may or may not suit you. This means you don’t get as many birds, or as much lush, wild, natural beauty, and so you don’t get the full Taveuni experience. If you are looking for a balance luxury and connection to nature, this is the place for you.

  • Lomani was amazing, as was Taveuni! But it is worth a little research to understand what adventure is in store for you! Cottage - First, Lomani is wonderful for a couple. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable with a great view, small pool and quaint sitting area outside. Cool breezes as night, warm afternoons. The house has phone, internet, bikes, kayaks, a full kitchen with cookware and comfortable sitting areas. Lomani also has a great staff (see below)! The cottage is walking distance to the water (I didn’t say “beach” because there really isn’t much traditional beach on Taveuni. The shores are lined with a sliver of sand and then 50m or so hard sharp dead coral you need to crunch over to get to the beautiful clear water beyond. Bring reef shoes!). We visited in the heart of the Southern Winter, so evenings were cool and windy - perfect for sleeping. The pool was refreshing after a long hot walk, but chilly at night. Lomani is very quite. Perfect for reading and relaxing. Aside from one nearby bar and restaurant (not really walking distance - particularly at night) there are really no other distractions so you can totally unwind. We went to bed shortly after sunset and awoke with the sunrise (different than our night-owl life in LA!) each night. The outdoor shower and bathroom is quaint and campy, albeit slighlty adventurous late at night if its really windy/rainy. Overall the experience was great, and when we return to Taveuni we would rather stay at Lomani than anywhere even closely priced on the island! Taveuni - This island is slightly different than what we had expected, but we were pleasantly surprised. Coming from a big resort on Viti Levu, we knew that Tavenui would be quieter, but that is an understatement. There are no scooters or car rentals, so really no traffic noise. No shops. There are really only 2 or 3 restaurants nearby - all within a 5 min. car ride. And only 2 markets for groceries within 20 min drive. So you need to stock up on groceries for your stay. The only way around the island is by foot, bike, taxi or Captain Dan (Lomani’s private driver and truck). Having travelled to lots of small islands though the Pacific (Aitutaki, Huahine, Moorea, Bora Bora, etc.) and in the Caribbean (e.g., Saba, Bequia, and then tons of the more known islands), Taveuni was by far the quietest. But unspoiled and beautiful. And loaded with outdoor adventure options - we snorkeled off the shore, hired a boat for the day, kayaked in Lomani's glass bottom kayaks, hiked to the waterfall and walked 5 miles down the coast (best way to really get a feel for the island!). With only four days, we didn't want to miss anything, so we really didn't just relax around the house. Next time! It rained a bit every day and night in June - so the island was incredibly lush. Picturesque! Team - Saskia was extremely responsive, flexible and helpful with our wonky schedule. Thank you! Dan ("Captain Dan”) was our driver, boat captain, Kava coach, gardener, restaurant guru and friend. He is supper happy, sweet and helpful and will accommodate any request with a big smile. Lucia takes care of the house and grounds and was very sweet and helpful. We were sad to leave! Overall a great experience! Bula!

  • My husband and I just came back from a 10 night stay at Lomani. We decided to go to Fiji for our 10 year anniversary and we are so glad we did! The location is absolutely amazing. The view cannot be beat. The house is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean, making it ideal for watching the spectacular Fijian sunsets. If you are an early riser, you can also see the sunrise over the mountains behind the house. Taveuni is a remote island and is not over-developed. There are no hoards of tourists and barely any noise. If you like to get away from it all, this is the place for you. If you like going out at night, then I would go to a more developed island. About the house: the property consists of two detached houses. One house is the living room, bedroom, bathroom and shower and the other house is the kitchen and dining area. This is a great set-up - having the kitchen separate keeps all the ants and small rodents out of the bedroom and living area. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make your own meals. The pantry was stocked with many sauces, spices, condiments, and even teas. There is a nice sized fridge and even a gas grill. My husband went fishing and caught a bunch of tuna that we ended up eating for several days. We even made sushi/sashimi out of it. The island has clean drinking water so we drank straight from the sink. I filled up bottles with tap water and put them in the fridge to keep it nice and cold. The house does not have air conditioning. We went in May and were never hot without the A/C. At night, the temperature is about 75 degrees and all the locals were actually cold in this weather. We slept with the blanket on, windows open, and the fan running and were never uncomfortable. It felt like we were sleeping outdoors. We did not have any problems with electricity. The solar panels and the back-up generator provided power 24 hours a day. The generator is brand new and is now located in an elevated shed behind the property. The outdoor space is phenomenal. Huge deck with hammocks, a table with chairs, pool chairs, pool umbrella, and an infinity pool. The pool is a very good size and depth. About the location: the house is located very close to the water. It is about a 5 minute walk down the hill. If you are expecting large sandy beaches, Taveuni does not have those. The island has small beaches during low tide. When it is high tide, the few beaches the island does have disappear. However, the island is surrounded by coral reef, making it ideal for snorkeling and fishing. The house comes with two glass bottom kayaks stored in a dive shop just down the hill. We kayaked and snorkeled off the kayak right in front of the house. We also did some line fishing off the kayak and got some fish for lunch. The water is super clear and warm. During low tide, you can walk on the beach and collect shells and lobsters. In addition to the beautiful ocean below the property, the house itself is situated on a huge plot of land. The entire area is like a large lush garden. Beautiful flowers everywhere and tons of fruit. Fruit is seasonal, so you will not have everything there at once. However, we had coconuts, papayas, tangerines, passion fruits and limes in May. If you want mangoes, you have to go in November/December. About the people: The property manager Rosie and her brother Dan (as well as our housekeeper Lucia) were the most amazing people we have ever met. They went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. They were very responsive, very thoughtful, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. They recommended places for us to see and made all the arrangements (waterfalls, island tours, etc.). They picked us up and drove us anywhere we needed to go. For my husband's birthday, Rosie and Dan surprised him with a homemade cake and a musician who played a Fijian birthday song for him. Dan took my husband fishing and taught him all the tricks to catching fish. My husband couldn't be happier when they caught a bunch of tuna! In the meantime, so I wouldn't be lonely, Lucia took me to her village and showed me around. The Fijian people are the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are so inviting and so happy. I had mentioned to Lucia that I love passion fruits, so the following day, and the days after, she would come to the house with a bunch of passion fruits! We were invited to a Kava ceremony at a local village where we got to meet the local people. It was truly an experience. For our anniversary, Rosie organized a traditional Lovo. The entire team helped with the preparation, they invited a musician who sang a special song for us on his guitar, and set up a romantic table for us. It was the best meal we have ever had and it was so romantic, so thoughtful, and made our anniversary so special. Perhaps the most memorable experience was when Rosie secured a boat for us and Dan and Lucia's husband took us on a tour of the islands. We went to several islands, got to snorkel the Rainbow Reef, got to see some of the most beautiful beaches, and even swan with the Manta Rays! We will never forget this trip and we will never forget the hospitality we received. We feel like we made a new family in Fiji and we hope to return someday soon. Vinaka!

  • The views can't be beat. Very romantic!! The infinity pool is amazing. Anyone who has stayed at one of the big name Caribbean all-inclusive resorts will certainly appreciate the value here alone!! Saskia is one of the best hosts we've ever had the pleasure to work with, especially given that we were communicating across 5 time zones!! We stayed much longer that many guests (16 days). Whenever we had issues at the home she was on it immediately. She definitely cares very deeply about her guests. Taveuni is a remote island to be sure. Be ready to unplug & enjoy "Fiji time". If you have spent any time at all in the South Seas AWAY FROM THE RESORTS then you'll get it completely. This is a little slice of heaven, raw & unhurried. Divers will certainly appreciate the proximity of the awesome dive operator at the bottom of the hill!!

  • Lomani is an outstanding place to stay. Saskia's communication is quick and the info provided to guests is extremely useful. Knox was fantastic and showed us around the island and took us where ever we needed to go. The dinner he cooked us on the last night was delicious. The facilities available including the kayaks and bikes are great for exploring too. Anyone going to Taveuni should definitely stay at Lomani

  • It was difficult to find a place on Tavenui that genuinely delivered the true Garden Island experience. The views are simply breathtaking and could be considered a key reason for staying, until you see the house. The design and fittings would not be out of place in Malibu or Kaui, however to find this house on Taveuni is impressive. The Fijian staff were incredible and at our service. Everything is taken care of for you. If you are not used to having attentive household help around you, or would like some time alone, our advice for future guests would be to let the wonderful team of people who support the house know how much or how little attention you want.

  • Everything about our experience at Green Fiji Plantation was amazing. It surpassed every expectation that we had before arriving. We were surprised on how easy it was for us to coordinate our vacation plans with the hosts. Traveling to the Plantation was easier than expected. The home we stayed in had breathtaking views, was relaxing, clean & very friendly with accommodating staff. The food was the best we had on the island. We went out to eat at other resorts and finished our dates wanting to eat the meal that was prepared back at the home by the staff. Our experience in Fiji will last a life time and we look forward to our next visit at the Plantation.

This is the perfect place if you like peace & quiet, with a cottage that is absolute beachfront. Unlike many places, the owner lives right on the property. Any problems can be dealt with immediately. Need another pillow? just ask Want some fresh coffee? we will brew it for you & send it over to your cottage. Nothing is too difficult (within reason~)
This cottage looks directly onto our secluded white sand beach. This is the largestof the cottages (bures) With only have 3 cottages you will never feel crowded here. And this cottage features a king bed as well as a single bed & an incredible private outdoor hot water "Honeymoon Shower" overlooking the ocean! (don't worry, no one will see you. there are rock walls that assure your privacy) We have snorkel gear & 3 kayaks for your use at no charge. Our restaurant is rated as the best on the island so please ask & we can cook you a meal if you like.
We are located in Matei, a wonderful neighborhood where you will find shops, restaurants & a mixture of Fijian, Indian, Chinese, Australian, New Zealand and American neighbors. At 5:00 every afternoon you can find folks out strolling on the road. Also, that is the time of day that the kulas gather in the trees and sing to us!
  • Everything about Coconut Grove is lovely. Three tranquil bures with a private beach for idyllic early morning swims, a restaurant serving fantastic food with a view you can’t keep your eyes off and the warmest Fijian service you could possibly ask for. I stayed as a solo traveler for 3 nights and was so well looked after, it was hard to say goodbye. For those looking for a quiet, peaceful place in a beautiful setting, where you can look at the stars from a beachside hammock, kayak to nearby islands to snorkel, or learn to cook fish curry with someone who makes you feel like family, look no further!

  • Paradise with a team at your service all the time. A high quality table with local dishes or not divinely cooked. Very well organized visit proposals. Neat cottages with amazing views of the beach and the surrounding islands. An unforgettable place.

  • We stayed in the Mango Bure Coconut Grove, in April 2019. Oh my! What a place. I haven’t been so relaxed in many years. I’m not sure I can really put into words just how incredible our experience was. CG, and particularly the Mango Bure, really was paradise. Ronna and her staff provided the perfect balance of attentive service, whilst giving us space to relax and truly switch off from the outside world. The food in the restaurant was the best we had in our whole 2 week Fiji holiday (in numerous locations). Ronna’s staff were amazing - professional and efficient (ie, no Fiji time delays), whilst kind, nurturing, and beautiful in that gorgeous Fijian way. Ronna and her staff assisted us in organising activities (diving, snorkelling etc) and also arranged very reliable and lovely taxi drivers to ferry us around. It’s not possible to give you a full appreciation of just how wonderful our stay at Coconut Grove was. All I know is that if you are going to Taveuni, you should book your stay with Ronna and experience it for yourself. You will not regret it!

  • Welcome to paradise at Coconut Grove!! My wife and I spent a week at the Mango residence the first week of September and we absolutely loved it! From the room fan that kept us cool, to the outdoor private shower, the beautiful views of the ocean and being surrounded by papaya and coconut trees you really can't beat this place. We especially loved that we could take out one of the kayaks and snorkeling gear, provided for free, and kayak out to one of the small islands that are located a quick row from Coconut Grove. Honeymoon Island was our favorite of these small islands, we brought a lunch (provided by the staff) and relaxed all day on the beach here along with the most beautiful snorkeling I have ever experienced in my life! My wife and I snorkeled on Rainbow reef, which is also a must, and we found the snorkeling around Honeymoon Island to be much better--so much beautiful coral and beautiful tropical fish, the whitest sand and the clearest of warm blue waters! When it was all said and done, my wife and I had the greatest of times. From snorkeling, to enjoying the delicious food at Coconut Grove's restaurant (we tried other restaurants on the island and Coconut Grove's was the best food), to playing with Millie, Coconut Grove's sweet dog, to falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean and watching the sunset and sunrise, you can't beat this place. For the romance, privacy, beauty and for the price and wonderful service from Ronna and her awesome staff, you really can't beat this place. Highly recommended.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Coconut Grove. Ronna and her crew made us feel "at home" from the moment that we arrived. Great location. We stayed in the Mango Bure and it was perfect for my wife and I. They have so many special touches from the ice in the afternoon, a thermos of coffee to take home for the morning (went well with the beautiful sunrises), flower petals spelling BULA on our bed just to name a few. We also used the Kayaks, mountain bikes, hammocks and snorkeling gear for the reef right in front. The real charm of this place is the people that work there. Esther, Serah, Fina, Flori, Kata ( I am sure that I am forgetting a few) Joe & Ronna. By the time we left, we felt like part of the Coconut Grove family. Jeff y Lisa

Any problems can be dealt with immediately. Need another pillow? just ask Want some fresh coffee? we will brew it for you & send it over to your cottage. Nothing is too difficult (within reason~)
This cottage looks directly onto our secluded white sand beach. This is the smallest of the cottages (bures) With only have 3 cottages you will never feel crowded here. We have snorkel gear & 3 kayaks for your use at no charge. If you like to go out exploring, just ask one of the staff & they can arrange a taxi for you or help with the bus schedule. We can even pack you a lunch. Our restaurant is rated as the best on the island so please ask & we can cook you a meal if you like.
We are located in a lovely neighborhood with a mix of Fijian, Indian, Australian, New Zealand, Muslim & American neighbors. At 5 p.m. every afternoon you can meet all of our neighbors. that is the best time to go out for an afternoon stroll. Everyone is on the road then, and a big "bula" (hello) is often sent your way as you pass by people.
  • Unfortunately we could only stay one night. The cottage is small but very beautiful set in an amazing garden. Beautiful beach and nice snorkeling too. The Food was excellent and Ronna‘s Team was super nice. We can definitely recommend the place.

  • Fantastic setting. Wonderful warm hearted hospitality

  • Wow! What a great place! My wife and I spent two weeks in Fiji and the 4 days at Coconut Grove were definitely a highlight. My favorite part is that it's only us and two other cabins here so it's tiny and quiet and the whole staff is dedicated to you. The staff is also so nice and pleasant! willing to accommodate and go the extra mile! The food was delicious and the beach was beautiful. The packed lunches and every dinner special was great! And less mosquitos then all the rest of the island. Don't stay at Maravu, stay at Coconut! A huge part of my fiji experience I'll always love!

    Matt2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • The best word to describe Coconut Grove has to be "paradise". From the amazing setting on the lush and unspoiled Garden Island of Taveuni to the incredibly warm and welcoming hospitality, Coconut Grove is truly a gem. If you come expecting a luxury resort, you'll be disappointed -- the bures are comfortable but basic. But if you come expecting a very authentic and relaxing getaway, you'll have an amazing stay. A few tips: 1) Spend at least 4 days on the island. There's so much to do between kayaking out to Honeymoon Island (right behind the property), hiking to the Bouma Waterfalls, walking along the Lavena Coast, snorkeling or diving the rainbow reef, and more. 2) Bring -- or buy -- a few snacks. The food at Coconut Grove is delicious, but is not necessarily on the "budget" scale. Breakfasts range from $7.5-$15, and lunches and dinners from $15-40+ once the 25% tax and 3.5% credit card fee are included. 3) Pack appropriately. Leave behind the cold weather clothes. Bring plenty of bug spray and sun screen -- you'll need both. Bring a fair amount of cash -- almost everywhere charges at least a 3.5% credit card fee. Most of all, spend time chatting with the wonderful people who work at the property. They're all lovely.

  • Highly recommended. Ronna and her staff are so friendly and always try to help and give you very good trip tips. The food is excellent. Definitely gotta try the fish. Love it!

    Steffi2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Ronna was very helpful The staff at Coconut Grove is unbelievably helpful, they will bend over backwards for you to have the best stay!!! The food is simply amazing, just to list a few: Fijian fish served in banana leaves, the garlic bread, the Papaya&Banana smoothies, the incredible lamb curry with green papaya and the banana bread. Delightful! The cottages are very comfortable (We were also lucky enough to be upgraded to a bigger cottage!). They are multiple activities on the island: the diving with Taveuni Ocean Sports was amazing and the guided tour to the Lavuna walk was one of the highlight of our trip to Fiji, so much knowledge and insightful facts about the Fijian flora and fauna. Only bad point of this stay for us was the 25% tax on all food and activities that we only discovered when paying the bill! Naka Coconut Grove for this awesome stay!

    Astrid2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay - everything was lovely: the room, the service, the food & the view!

    Karen2018-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ronna and her staff are fantastic. They make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive until you leave. They worked as a team to keep the grounds and cabins clean, cook and serve amazing food, provide special touches, even pick you up and drop you off at the airport with a welcoming smile. The resort is very peaceful and provides for an amazing tranquil getaway. We read, biked, kayaked, swam and slept to the sound of waves only feet from our cabin. Our stay was everything we expected and more......the food was beyond our expectations. Our memories of Coconut Grove will last forever.

Sere Ni Ika means song of fish. On quiet still days sitting on the patio of this beautiful well appointed three bed room home, two bathroom house, you can literally hear the fish sing. Watch the sunrise and sunset on the lanai, it is a beautiful sight. Change of ownership means a newly refurbished home with a modern kitchen and wifi through out the house. Sere Ni Ika is ideal for family or couples wanting a home away from home.
The proximity of this beautiful home to the sea and beach makes it unique. We have kayaks for all who would like to venture around the little islands across from Sere ni Ika and games for both adults and children. There is snorkeling in front of the house and around the islands in front. There is also plenty of space to simply lounge around or sit on the lanai and watch the ocean, listen to music or read. Sere Ni Ika is considered by many to be the best house in Matei, Taveuni. For your convenience Sere Ni Ika has caretakers living on the property, this is a rarity in Matei. They are there to assist you with anything you might need or desire. Our caretakers, Loata and Eroni, would be more than happy to assist you with cooking, babysitting, sightseeing and planning your day.
Sere Ni Ika is in the Matei area where there are homes in the vicinity and the beach may be occupied at times.
  • Great view off the deck, convenient walk or short taxi ride to good snorkeling, a kayak available and organic, delicious ice cream across the street. One of the highlights for us was getting to know the housekeeper Loata and her 8 year old daughter Lucy. They felt like family to us by the time we left. We prepared nearly all our meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The men went fishing with neighbor Johnny and brought home 5 fish for us to cook and also eat as sushi. Loata prepared the Fijian version of ceviche for us. If you go, you might take a simple children's book or 2 for Lucy. Loata is home schooling her.

A room in the Grand Villa on your own private 100 acre coconut plantation! Green jungle fades into blue ocean views, interrupted only by the tall palm trees swaying in the breeze, on the garden island of Fiji, Taveuni.
A guest room in this mid-century modern villa perched atop a hillside overlooking the ocean and breathtaking natural beauty of the garden island of Fiji, Taveuni, without a neighbor in sight. It's a place your heart will never forget. Your private bedroom has a choice of either two double beds, or one queen size bed, with separate ensuite bath and shower. Each room is beautifully appointed with tropical hardwood, bamboo, and stone finishes, and a granite vessel sink. Your room is individually lockable with a security safe, and connected by a beautifully curving entry to a spacious lounge with open plan kitchen for family togetherness. The locally grown tropical hardwood floors open onto the veranda, where your evening starts with sunset dining around a granite table that seats 14 around blue and gold flames of an in-table fire pit. As the orange sunset fades to pink, purple and blue and the darkness reveals more stars than you've ever seen, you won't remember when your evening ends and your dreams begin.
A 100 acre coconut plantation and working farm around the meandering driveway that leads up to the Villa, with no neighbors in sight. When the sun sets and the stars come out, you can count the number of man made lights on one hand. Very peaceful and private.
  • My bf and I were blown away by the hospitality we received by JK and Irina. Their home in Taveuni is elegant, comfortable, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous. They've done an outstanding job creating a perfect nook in paradise with modern comforts that will make any guest feel right at home. The entire property, including all the animals roaming about in penned-up areas, is a sight to take in, and the expansive views from the deck and pool will steal your heart. The delicious meals, local knowledge, and other little touches made our stay truly special. I cannot speak highly enough about this beautiful couple and family, and their stunning home in Taveuni! Highly recommend.

  • Your staff welcomed me with open arms like I was an extension of their family. Making it excruciatingly difficult to say goodbye after only 3 days. That says a lot. This island is paradise. No other way to cut it. And green plantation is an oasis amongst it. I will be back. I miss everyone already. Don’t hesitate to book.

    Gary2018-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Green Fiji Plantation is the perfection of simpicity , luxury and sustainable living. We fell in love with the Locals who made our stayd so enjoyable and unforgettable . Vono the elder statesman chiefly in his management and kindness . Sulis cooking is the best on the island despite all the restaurants around. Her home made sourdough bread is a must to try. Cheeky lovely Mini keeeps the place spotless and the boys Simo and Tony are always there to assist with your local diving / snorkeling, rare flower Adventure activities. Bill regaled is with tales of Taveunis history while waiting for the lomo to cook . The property has abundance of tropical fruits and beautiful forests where you can get lost forever. There are 2 beautiful dogs who will guide you to the top of the hill and a pig that thinks it is a dog . This is truly paradise lost where you can reflect and unwind . In simple terms if you want to stay in Taveuni this is a must,

  • Amazing hosts, amazing location and amazing food! J.K., Irina, their three kids, and the Fijian families living and working at the plantation really went out of their way for us. The house is very modern and clean, the view on the plantation and the sea from the balcony is breathtaking, and the homemade food with fruits and veggies from the garden is delicious! J.K. and Irina know a lot about Taveuni and are always eager to share good tips, recommendations, and stories about the island and the people. We followed their recommendations blindly and we were not disappointed. We had a very good time staying at their place, i totally recommend it!

  • The place, the house are just unbeliveable! From the time you open your eyes in the morning until you close them in the evening you are enjoying a 180 degres view over the trees, birds, and sea. The house is well equiped and everyone is so welcoming and helpful. I would go there again for sure!

  • Absolute Perfection! I've been traveling throughout Asia and the Pacific for 6 months this year staying in 5 star resorts and AirBnBs along the way and Green Fiji Plantation is by far the best accommodation I've run across. It's not just the amazing hilltop views of the ocean, the jaw dropping sunsets, the wonderful mountain backdrop, the modern and elegant house design, the luxurious bedroom/bathroom, the beauty of the Milky Way each night, or the fresh fruits and rainbows in the morning that make this offering supreme, it is the warm and kind people that surround you. The staff will cater to all of your needs including cooking meals, driving you to nearby sites, arranging transport and activities, and most importantly they welcome you into exploring their culture and way of life. Together we kayaked up and down the coast as boys from the village swam along side and gathered fish, climbed a nearby peak and captured amazing views of the nearby islands and jungle, snorkeled out into the sea and practiced traditional fishing, climbed up rocks in Bouma Park and plunged into the pools below waterfalls, and I even picked up a few island skills along the way like opening coconuts when all you have is rocks. All the while we laughed and shared stories with each other until I truly felt like I was part of the family. The worst part of this accommodation is saying goodbye as tears start to form. I happened to stay here when the host was out of town but the communication was still very smooth. J.K., Irina, and family do a lot for the people here and you can feel their love when the people from the village tell stories about the family. I cannot wait to return when everyone is around!

    Johnathan2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far one of the best places we've ever stayed. The family is just wonderful and their children are so polite and helpful. We had such an amazing time. They can arrange a wide variety of activities such as going to see the waterfalls, snorkeling/diving & a boat trip to an uninhabited island which is just beautiful. I had the pleasure of getting a Swedish massage & coconut body wrap from one of their lovely ladies at the house. You can choose to have lunch & dinner prepared for you daily and the food is incredible. Make sure to try the coconut rice! The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Beautiful views of the water and palm trees throughout. The ladies will do any laundry you may need during your stay. Just an absolute pleasure staying here and we will most definitely be back!!

    Windi2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • A must stay! The view from the house is breathtaking! A 180 degree view of the ocean and palm trees below - there isn't a better scene to wake up to in all of Fiji. The hosts are the nicest, most charming couple I've ever stayed with, and are happy to share their inside knowledge on all the best spots to see in Taveuni. You'll be missing out if you stay anywhere else!

My name is Isoa and together with my wife Peni manage this beautiful property on Taveuni. It boasts some of the best sea views on the island. With 4 large bedrooms and plenty of space, Ucuilagi is ideal for couples or larger families (including children) alike. My job is to ensure guests have a great holiday and I will arrange diving, fishing and snorkeling trips, or bush and waterfall walks as required.
Ucuilagi is located in a beautiful private tropical garden, with magnificent views of the SomoSomo Strait. There is a short walk to the beach or local restaurant. Dive operators are located nearby and will pick up divers from our property as required.
  • The place is great. The view amazing. Ioso was outstanding. We had a wonderful time.

  • Steve’s house is everything one could want in a stay in Fiji. The property is perched on a hill overlooking the ocean with spectacular 180 degree views. The grounds are beautiful and well manicured. The deck is situated for enjoyment of the views and the cocktail pool is a plus. The house is a short walk to the beach where the snorkeling is quite good right from the shore. With two bedrooms in the main house and two more in the guest house, there was plenty of room for seven of us to spread out. The kitchen is well-stocked. The internet is good. The solar power is adequate for household use. We really liked the outside showers and use of the washing machine. Check in and out through the local caretaker is convienent, and Steve graciously allows him to shuttle the guests to the local grocery store and to the airport. I recommend this place with no hesitation.

    Amy2018-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to experience Fiji, this is a great place to do it !! The house is in great shape, has everything you need plus . The couple who live in a house on the property are typical of the Fijian people-Warm, sincere, always doing little things to make your stay comfortable. You can't find a better view anywhere- very nicely landscaped, well designed pathway to the beach(but steep) full 180 degree view of the SOMO SOMO straight. Dive shop is at the bottom of the pathway. We have been to Fiji many times and will return to Steve's place on our next visit.. Thanks Steve

    Peter2018-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ucuilagi sits on a hill top with SPECTACULAR views! The house and outside deck areas were clean and if any cleaning needs arose, Peni was very accommodating of our requests. Isoa was extremely helpful during our stay and was easy to get a hold of if we needed him during our stay.

    Ally2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable and very beautifully positioned house on gorgeous, unspoilt Taveuni. Infinitely preferable to staying in a resort but worth getting house notes ahead of arrival and making sure transport arrangements work as needed. Managers very helpful and host communications good

    Brian2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for the great place Steve, Iosa and his family were amazing - Fiji hospitality is really out of this world!

  • 'Ucuilagi' is stunning & perfectly located for the best weather & views. The grounds are beautifully designed, full of colour & private. The couple who look after the house during your stay couldn't have been more thoughful or attentive. You also have your own walk path to the secluded beach & the restaurant is at the bottom of the driveway on the waterfront. This house & Taveuni will be a treasured memory for our family for many years to come.

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! Me and my 2 friends had an absolutely incredible time at Sau Bay, and strongly encourage you to book with Nigel and Carol!! In addition to the dreamy location, delicious food, fun free and paid activities, comfortable accommodations, and playful resort dogs, the thing that made our trip so special was the amazing staff at Sau Bay. From Bernie who made us laugh while fixing us well-crafted cocktails, to Nessie and Auntie Berra who cooked us yummy fresh meals, and Lui, James, and Horace who made sure that we were entertained and had access to all the amazing water amenities, the staff was warm, welcoming, and open. Carol made it easy for us to get to Sau Bay by arranging transfers from Savusavu. She also helped us plan some enjoyable activities, like snorkeling/diving the world-famous Rainbow Reef to doing a day trip to hike to picturesque waterfalls on Taveuni. My friend Tara is a scuba diver, and she was thrilled that Sau Bay has a dive shop right on site (something that is pretty rare,) making it very easy to go on incredible, personalized dives. Whether you're a family, honeymooner, scuba diver, or a group of friends, Sau Bay will be a perfect home for your Fijian vacation. Thank you Nigel, Carol and the entire Sau Bay family for an unforgettable stay!!!

    Liz2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Nigel and his team at Sau Bay are very welcoming and provide top notch service during your entire stay. The food, property and day trips were all amazing. We stayed two nights at a Westin property on the main island and overpaid for an OK experience. If you are traveling to Fiji, do everything you can to explore outside of the traditional hotel like the Westin. We then took a small plane over to Taveuni and arranged for a taxi/boat over to Sau Bay. A place like Sau Bay allows you to interact with local people and explore a much more beautiful part of Fiji.

    Miles2016-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • We found Sau Bay at random and we cannot say enough about how much we loved this place. If you are looking for a $5000 per night resort then Sau Bay may not be for you, on the other hand if you are looking for your own little piece of heaven with privacy and just the right amount of pampering then you are in for a real treat here. Carol was a wonderful host and all the staff were beautiful people. They were always there to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was wonderful the accommodations were lovely. We had traveled around Fiji before arriving at Sau Bay and were a bit sad to find that Cyclone Winston had wiped out many of the reefs and beaches but Sau had not only a nice little stretch of beach but also the most beautiful ( still thriving ) reefs. We even were married here, paradise found!

    Aurajoy 2016-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sau bay was excellent. Nigel, Sara, Bera, Freddy, Tiko and the rest of the staff made us feel very welcomed and went above and beyond to make our stay with them unforgettable.

    Roel2015-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Nigel was super welcoming - he and Carol have created an atmosphere that makes you feel as though you're right at home. The entire staff was awesome! We were greeted with flowers, song and fresh coconut water when we arrived off the boat. The staff took care of our luggage as Sera, our go to gal (and now friend) for everything, encouraged us to relax and enjoy being 'home'. This place was AMAZING - quiet, calm, serene. Beautiful! The staff was there when we needed them and not when we didn't. Peaceful to say the least!

    Trisha2015-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was beyond wonderful!! Even before we arrived, Carol made sure everything was in order so that we would have the perfect time in Fiji. She gave valuable advice and really helped our trip go smoothly. She is wonderful! Carol arranged a driver to pick us up (Bobby) and he was very, very nice and he even bought us fresh bananas on the way! We took a beautiful boat ride to Sau Bay with Freddie and Tui and were greeted with beautiful music and one of their adorable friendly dogs! Our room was fantastic--clean and modern (especially the bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower). They lent us snorkel gear and wetsuits for free and they have kayaks and hammocks for free use as well. Shebaz (spelling?) was our chef and the food was out of this world delicious!!!! From the moment we arrived, Sera was so wonderful, cheerful and helpful plus she gives AMAZING massages! Their massage room is unlike any other in this world. It is in this private room where the front is totally open to a beautiful view of the water and you have all of the relaxing sounds of the ocean during your massage. Almost every night, we had live music by Louie and the crew. It was as if we were staying with family that we had known for years. Everyone is so friendly and funny. We happened to stay at the same time as two other wonderful couples which made our stay so much fun because we all gathered around the Kava bowl together in the evenings and enjoyed the music together. So if you go, bring some friends with you because the more the merrier! There is not really a soft sand beach here to lay out on, but a short 5-10 minute boat ride away is Dolphin Bay with a wonderful beach and a turtle we got to snorkel with! We did the day snorkeling trip and we felt so safe with the crew and they set up a delicious lunch picnic on the beach and the next day Carl took us hiking to the waterfalls and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. You will have to purchase a meal plan (no other restaurants on the island) and pay for boat transfers and any extra activities you do so make sure you inquire about those so you know how much to expect to spend. You must do the snorkeling/Dolphin Bay trip, waterfall day trip and massage from Sera for sure. Everyone here is wonderful and laid back, you will love the property and the crew!

    JR & Suzie2014-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcome on first contact (shuttle boat comes to pick us up to take us to the hotel), confirmed on arrival (guitars and vocals of caring and smiling staff accompany our descent to the ground where fresh coconuts are offered to us. The place is magical, unspoiled scenery guaranteed; immediately a sense of serenity and exclusivity discovering places: bungalows very well decorated and well equipped (fridge, coffee maker, kettle, fan, air conditioning, mosquito net etc ...), the attention to detail (water, homemade cookies, nice linens, quality cosmetics, flowers etc. ...). The restaurant and its deck on the beach we offer a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food made from fresh local produce. A variety of activities available to us (mini sailboats, sea kayaks, snorkels masks fins, trekking trail, very good massages and beauty treatments etc ...) Even better there than the idea that we can do on the Internet; hard to leave this little piece of paradise and those who care (you've met some wonderful simplicity and authenticity). A 3-day stay is really the minimum!

    Matthieu2014-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Sau Bay was fantastic- the resort itself was gorgeous and being accessible only by boat accentuated the feeling that my friends and I were really getting away from it all. Our cottage was spacious, tastefully decorated, and so comfortable, with not a speck of dirt to be found. The front veranda made for a nice outdoor living room to spend the evenings after a busy day out on the water, hiking, or doing nothing at all. On top of that, the main lounge/dining room/terrace was the perfect place for having our meals and just hanging out with a view of the water (to be fair, everywhere in the resort had a view of the water!). Because we originally planned to focus our time on Taveuni itself, my friends and I initially hesitated to stay somewhere off the island. But, now I can say it was a great decision to stay at Sau Bay. Right outside our door there were already plenty of things to do, but with just an easy boat ride away we were able to explore not only Taveuni, but also the other neighboring islands and villages. But, the icing on the cake was the entire team there: Carol, Nigel, Baruska, Alma, Pio, Carl, Danu, and many more. They made us all feel so welcome and taken care of during our stay. Everyone was so warm, friendly, and casual, but yet still very attentive. We were all quite sad to leave. I would definitely stay at Sau Bay again!

The Tropical Hideaway is located on a lush lookout above colourful sparkling reefs of the Somosomo Straights and white sandy beaches of Taveuni's northern tip.
Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Fiji Islands. This unique and opulent opportunity offers couples, families, and perhaps even battered backpackers a place to relax and rejuvenate amid a flourishing postcard-perfect paradise. You can see happiness from here. **THE DESTINATION** Taveuni, aptly named Fiji’s Garden Isle, is the country’s third largest island and is comprised of one very large, but dormant, volcano. **THE ACCOMODATION** Maravu, the sprawling resort of which your private rental is a part, is nestled nicely between Welagi and Naselesele villages, right around the corner from the Matei Airport, and within walking distance to the beach, bus and local convenience shops. Our Hideaway, the most romantic villa on the property, is fitted out with the finest of Fiji furniture. Happiness mysteriously appears as you step upon the hardwood planks and look out at the miraculous view beyond. The Somosomo Strait stretch as far as the eye can see. Happily they share their culture with any eager ears they happen to come across. Although your private Hideaway is set slightly apart from the larger resort compound, you are welcome at any time to join other guests in resort activities or make use of the restaurant, bar, pool or spa. Alternatively, you may choose to relax in the reclusiveness of your romantic sanctuary and allow our smiling staff to provide you with in-room food, beverage and massage services.
  • I had a great stay and overall eventful time at Maravu. It was my first time in Taveuni and I was greeted with a warm welcome as soon as I arrived. All of the staff were very kind and friendly. The daily trips/plans were well organized and advantageous. I appreciated the food menu as well as snacking on some of the natural fruits around the property. Overall I really enjoyed my vacation filled with waterfalls, beaches, and laughter. I’m thankful to all the people there that opened up their beautiful home and treated me like family. Till next time, Vinaka vaka levu!

  • Beautiful and kind of a secluded island. Had a room with a great view of the beach. The night sky is amazing as well. This is a tropical rain forest island so you will see small lizards, geckos, etc... almost everywhere. Lots of lush greenery and very friendly locals. More eco-adventure than commercial / shopping experience or amenities and that's exactly what I expected. Really enjoyed the hiking and snorkeling trips. Don't miss those! Bring plenty of Fiji $$ as many places may not take credit cards and access to an ATM is a challenge.

  • My spouse and I had a nice stay in Honeymoon Hideaway villa at the Maravu Resort. It has a beautiful view and is very private. The villa had excellant free Wifi the majority of our stay. There is a rode below the villa and you can hear passing cars and occasional honks from inside the villa. There were quite a few geckos inside the villa. I didn't mind them so much considering they keep your villa bug free. There were however occasional gecko poops found in the villa. So if geckos aren't your thing this villa may not be right for you. There is not the possibility to self cater. The Maravu res staff were very friendly and helpful. Henry kept great communication.

  • A really wonderful location with sensational views over the ocean and the friendliest of local staff. Good Fijian food and drink at reasonable prices. A great snorkeling expedition to the Rainbow Reef. And kava drinking nightly! Some of the facilities are showing their age so don't expect Sofitel standards but staying at the Maravu Resort is a much richer and more rewarding experience than any grand hotel can offer. The grounds are beautiful and the whole island of Taveuni is glorious.

  • The honeymoon hideaway at maravu resort is absolutely Stunning. Really cool design cabin with An epic view of the beach. There is about 5 restaurants nearby including the maravu resort. The resort food was limited due to stock(perhaps as it was holiday time). Tramonto pizza was awesome. Also we had several traditional home style meals next door at Annamorina's restaurant. Our advise is to book for dinner wherever you are going. Don't be in a rush. If you are it will likely take longer! Great diving spots. Amazing waterfalls and hikes. Good to team up with Other guests to make a small tour group. Car hire was a good option too. We loved our stay here. Vinaka Kent & Loren

  • This BnB was probably one of the best experiences I've had on AirBnB, truly a gem among all of the places in Fiji. My husband and I got married, and took a flight out to Fiji the very next day, so we were hoping for a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere, and that's exactly what we got. We stayed in bure 16, and while it is definitely not a 5 star resort, its BEAUTIFUL. The view is one of the best in all of Fiji, the bed is comfortable, and the bure itself is beautiful. We have a private path to the beach, and a private path to the actual main resort area. For those of you that want some privacy, but the ability to socialize when you want, I recommend this place. One thing to note is that resort used to be a 5 start resort, but 5 years ago, it was abandoned. Just recently, someone purchased it up, and they're making it beautiful again. So, do be aware, that there are some things that are not fully functional: there is not always hot water, there are definitely a lot of bugs, some of the windows and doors don't work, but who cares, you're in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The people working here are amazing, they're so nice and they're willing to chat, get to know you, show you around, etc. One of the guys, who guided our coastal walk, went mango and pine apple hunting with us, he brought us to the town center, and told us all about himself, and Fiji. However, as usual in Fiji, every activity has an extra price. The activities are fun (coastal walk, dateline, fishing, snorkeling, etc), but they DO cost money. There are a couple small super markets about 20-30 minutes walk, and the town center is a 15 minute taxi drive (you can ask them to drive you there). The food is amazing (breakfast, lunch, AND dinner), but somewhat pricey. Overall, please go here, because it's amazing and beautiful and exactly what my husband and I needed after our wedding.
