Welcome to our contemporary 24 ft yurt tucked away on Salt Spring Island's Maxwell Mountain. An off grid experience with large deck, outdoor shower and woodstove. Surrounded by a mature forest that will bring instant relief to your senses. Calm, quiet and serene with the islands best hiking trails only minutes away.
  • Woodfolk Yurt is incredible. The magic started when we were greeted with deer as we first entered the property and continued as we walked into this clean, spacious, cozy space. It has everything you could ask for from a bbq, a little stereo to plug an iPod in, to organic biodegradable shower supplies. Laura has really nailed it on taking care of you! It’s tucked away just enough to feel like you’re on your own, but also a quick drive to anything you might need. We absolutely loved everything about this place and hope to return again.

  • This was the BEST airbnb I have every stayed in. It was clean, accurate, stunningly beautiful, private, off-grid, and peaceful as can be. I tip my hat to Laura for this place. The outdoor shower, wood fireplace, deck, bed, sheets, kitchen, vibe - it was all perfect. To say i'm obsessed with this place would be a gross understatement. Thank you Laura!!!!

  • We visited Laura's yurt for our honeymoon and absolutely adored the place. It's the perfect retreat away from everything. The decor was fashionable, the outdoor (heated!) shower was heavenly, and the mini kitchen was nice for us to cook some of our own meals. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Salt Spring.

    Cassandra2018-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • a really stunning location and sparkling clean and modern space in a wilderness heaven.

    Amy2018-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool place to spend some time unwinding. Outdoor shower is pretty much the best thing in the world. The host is awesome and the place is amazing. Very private and secluded.

    Yue Ching2018-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • This space was even more photogenic than a camera could ever capture. Such a cozy space, and the host, Laura was able to create a minimal space with high quality decor and amenities. One thing to note is that this space is pretty much out in the boonies and if you don't have a car, it can be difficult to get to the places you want to explore. On the flip side, this means that you are solely surrounded by nature and the place is great from disconnecting - especially if you're from the city. There were even a few deer spottings! Highly recommend this place to stay if you're ever on beautiful Salt Spring Island.

  • A perfect place to unplug and relax while being able to access all of the great things salt spring has to offer. The outdoor shower is amazing! We stayed with our 2 month old and it was perfect. Laura even helped us out when we needed warmer clothes for her!

    Heather2018-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed my stay. Everything was as-advertised. Thanks Laura!

Beautiful, fun, and relaxed hostel experience on Orcas Island! Your very own dome at the Golden Tree Hostel. We are located right in the middle of the island just outside of Eastsound, our quaint little town. This is a perfect launching spot for what the island has to offer. We have a hot tub and sauna for you to enjoy when you get back from the days adventure.
Golden Tree Hostel is in the landmark Donohue House (1890), listed on the National Historic Registry. The house has both architectural and cultural significance. Michael Donohue built the house seven years after his arrival on Orcas Island. The dwelling was constructed using an Upright-and-Wing building form, a late example of the Greek Revival style. Mr. Donohue used his skills to erect many other buildings on the island, including the Emmanuel Episcopal Church (1885), also listed on the Registry. The house sits on the last remaining part of a 180 acre homestead. The farm was a leading supplier of apples and milk from the island. Some of the original orchard is still present on this and neighboring properties and is still producing delicious apples. The Donohues’ only surviving son, Harry, lived in the house with his wife Jean Donohue (Gibson) until their respective passings in 1947 and 1958. The house then passed through many hands before arriving in ours. We spent over two years renovating every building on the property, to create a unique hostel experience. Taking our combined years as both builders and artists, we transformed a tired building into a vibrant home. The house is located just a 10 minute stroll to both Eastsound, the commercial center of the island, and North Beach, a great place to watch a summer sunset, have a picnic or drop some kayaks in the water. We built a sauna and put in a hot tub to help you relax after a day of hiking or biking around the island. You can shoot a game of pool with a fellow traveler, or find a quiet spot on one of the porches. We hope to have created a spot where travelers can meet and connect with each other and with local residents. There’s a whole lot to do on the property and even more to do around the island. We look forward to having you!
Our neighborhood is lively in the summer with lots of events as well as many places to go find tranquility in the nearby woods. There are walking paths along the road to take you to our quaint town with great food options, fun shops and a few galleries. Enjoy a picnic and a sunset on North Beach.
  • Great location, with range different and interesting bed down locations. Even met new people around the fire pit at night. Ian is also super knowledgeable in motorcycles and chatting with him about that was an experience

    Ivy2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We love the dome! A brisk morning walk to the beach, a long hot soak in the bath tub, and an enchanting night in the yurt. You can’t go wrong! Stay at Golden Tree Hostel!

    Lainey2018-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • A truly magical place, conveniently located offering incredible amenities. The setting and overall environment were beautiful and comforting. This is a great place to come to relax. Ian was wonderfully kind, helpful, and respectful to our space during our stay. Highly recommend the Dome and taking advantage of the sauna and hot tub. The facilities are in outstanding condition and offer everything you could want or need to get away and unwind. Loved all the little touches of character and personality throughout the amazing historic Golden Tree house, especially the custom murals. Definitely one of my all time favorite airbnb experiences!

  • This place is a true gem. Wilderness Resort & Retreat is exactly what it sounds like. We stayed in tent #2 and it was close to the "hub", fireplace, and the water. The hub is where all the magic happens; the bathroom with shower (tents and yurts do not have their own- there is a cute little outhouse nearby the tents), meals, wifi if you need it (because you're completely off the grid, no cell service), and the deck with all the views. The saltwater cedar-wood run hot tub was one of my favorite amenities... among so many others! There is bioluminescent algae that just sparkled in the night when disturbed, i.e. throwing a rock in the water, but it has to be dark with zero light pollution. We lucked out one night where it was cloudy right after a full moon and it was just absolutely magical. The staff just makes this place. Marsha and Steve, who are the year-round caretakers are just rockstars. Shelly and Ian are just a killer duo that makes you feel right at home, like you were away with friends. We were lucky to have Nick, our chef, who treated us to delicious meals that were thought out and very well balanced. I couldn't have asked for a better girls weekend getaway! We are eagerly looking forward to returning. If you are looking to find a little hidden gem tucked away in an inlet, this is definitely the right place for a little slice of heaven.

  • Xenia was a serene and beautiful place to escape to. We loved our cozy accommodations, the great energy in the lodge, the lush green grounds, the farm animals, the infrared sauna, and our visit with the 1000 year old tree. Hope to return soon!

  • Saria showed us around the beautiful grounds and buildings of Xenia. The slightly larger Buddha yurt was available, so she put us in there which we appreciated very much. We had several nice conversations with Saria, she was always available and helpful. The sound of light rain on the yurt at night was very calming and magical.

As you leave the garden gate and walk the gentle sloping hill, look to the left, there is Buddha sitting on the step waiting for you. Open the door of this yurt and enjoy the decor as the peaceful energy melts into your essence.

  • This was a lovely environment for my spouse, myself and our two fur babies. It was an amazing experience and the property has so much to offer! I think the dog is angry at me for making him leave!

  • Saria is great. The property is amazing. There is something very special about Xenia. Connect to nature, find your zen, escape your life, stay at Xenia. You don't know how much you needed it till you're leaving. Once you do you'll want to come back.
