Historic Site
“The Fort of Sagres is located on a dramatic, narrow headland that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean to form Portugal's most south-westerly point. It dates back to the 15th Century, a time when the Portuguese coast was often the target of raids from the Barbary pirates who heralded from the nearby North African shores.”

“Burgau is a charming fishing village. As you head down towards the beach at Burgau the streets become cobbled and you soon find yourself among the jumble of whitewashed fishermen's cottages that make up the old village. You'll know when you are almost on the beach as you will find little fishing boats pulled up , lining the steeply sloped streets which double as slipways and a harbour. The beach at Burgau is a pleasantly wide stretch of golden sand with cliffs rising up at either end- With Lagos only 20 minutes along the coast to the east and Sagres just a little further to the west Burgau is a good base for exploring the western Algarve. There are some lovely coastal walks from here and many of the neighbouring beaches. ”

“The tiny town of Salema sits just a few minutes off the main N125 road that runs along the Algarve, and is dotted with small whitewashed houses with blue trim (to ward off evil spirits) and the latticed chimney pots characteristic of the Algarve. In nearby fields of wildflowers, storks nest on telegraph poles. ”

“The most southwestern point of continental europe: a landmark! It holds the second largest lighthouse in Europe, with great importance for navigation. It was here that once people thought the world ended! Sacred place of pilgrimages and contemplation. Here you can watch the beautiful sunsets over the ocean and feel the mysticism of this landmark. ”

“Situated right on the beach, this is a beach bar by day but at night it turns into a great restaurant serving fresh fish and great steaks. We'd recommend booking this one as it's often fully booked, especially in the high season.”
