“Ljubljanica and the ponds in the area offer plenty of possibilities for fishing. We invite nature and fishing enthusiasts to purchase a fishing licence for the ponds, managed by the Fishing Family Vrhnika which has existed since 1955. “AT THE TOP NEXT TO A MOUNTAIN HUT ON HILL PLANINA ABOVE VRHNIKA THERE IS A WOODEN TOWER. if you have two hours of time, I invite you to a brief, but very interesting trip. You can reach the tower and the hut from different directions or by foot or by car. In the summer you walk in a pleasant shade, and in the winter the ways are well shoated. Because of its proximity, it is a popular excursion point that attracts many nature lovers and others who are gathering the condition for more demanding tours. The fastest hikers come up to the hill in half an hour, but families with small kids need two to three hours walk. You can go by car via Zaplana (Jerinov gric). This is about 11 km of driving. ”

Fishing Spot
“ Five ponds along the Ljubljanica river were formed after the suspension of clay pits of former Kotnik brickworks. Here is home to many species of birds, fish, and rare shells, crabs and European pond terrapin. Two ponds on the grounds are used for natural reproduction of fish and the other three are intended for fishing. Nearby, in the river Ljubljanica in Verd, during archaeological excavations in 2009, a wooden spear point was found dating back to the Early Stone Age (38,000 to 45,000 years). According to information currently available, it is the first such discovery in the world.”

“The Ljubljanica river exhibition (Vrhnika) is dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of the Ljubljanica River and its immediate surroundings. It is located in the town of Vrhnika, where this fascinating river has several of its many springs. The exhibition covers the period of the last 40,000 years, starting with a replica of the wooden arrowhead found here and presumably used by the Neanderthals. Many of the artefacts presented were found in the Ljubljana Moors, whose prehistoric pile dwellings legacy is included in the the UNESCO World Heritage List. Opening hours: from Thuesday to Sunday: 10:00-18:00, Monday closed ”
