“Beech Mountain is known for being the highest ski destination east of the Rockies. There's a lot of debate in the area as to which is the better ski mountain but personally me and Addie prefer Sugar in the winter and Beech for all the other seasons and here are a few reasons why. Beech's vert is about 400 feet less then Sugars and it doesn't offer as much terrain variation, plus its the furthest from Buttermilk at around 45 minutes. That being said Beech is better for all the other seasons, better views in fall, great mountain biking, a summer concert series that brings in big names a disc golf course and a brewery! Plus you get the feeling of a local seen that's non existent at Sugar. ”

“If you need a break from the outdoors, this is a great option to relax and unwind. According to their website: Banner Elk Winery (photo above) is the most celebrated winery in the region, growing new French-American and American varieties of grapes. Banner Elk wines pay tribute to the rugged mountain landscape and capture the delicate nuance and subtle flavors. Stop in for a tasting year around from 12 Noon until 6 PM every day but Mondays. They also offer private tours and tastings with advance scheduling of at least one week. Located at 60 Deer Run Lane.”
