Set in a quiet converted Mews, the Granary is a cosy, light and spacious apartment with bath and shower, kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bedroom with king sized bed.
There is a window seat in the lounge offering a view of Knipe Scar. The private garden has a lockable shed for storage of bikes or other outdoor equipment.
There is a village store/Post Office a 2 minute walk from the property and two pubs within half a mile. There are lots of other good pubs and cafes between 3 and 10 miles away. Details of these and menus where possible are stored at the Granary. It's a great location for walking. You can access a footpath which takes you down to the river, a quarter of a mile away, without having to go on roads, and there you'll find the peaceful riverside path. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of hill and mountain walks offering great views of Haweswater and Ullswater. There are over 30 laminated guided walks stored at the property, to give you some ideas to get started. There are also loads of great places for cycling and other outdoor activities.
  • Charlotte was a great host, giving clear directions and easy to communicate with. The place was very clean and an ideal base for a couple to explore the Lake District.

  • Charlotte's place is lovely and cosy. We had a brilliant weekend and would love to stay again!

    Jonathan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was one of the best hosts I’ve dealt with on AirBnB, she went above and beyond for us and was incredibly accommodating. The Granary itself was a beautiful property and the views were amazing, the rooms and bathroom were clean and everything worked perfectly! I would love to be back and would definitely recommend.

    Faiz2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte's lovely Penrith getaway is amazing! It's the perfect size for a couple or individual to get that country escape you're after! She is also a polite and very responsive host, so you'll never feel like there is anything missing as she definitely delivers that personal touch. Would highly recommend.

  • Charlotte's place was the perfect stop for us when travelling up to Scotland. The directions she provided were so helpful in finding the place as due to traffic we arrived later than planned. When something went wrong Charlotte and her husband were so helpful in sorting it out. Have already recommended to friends and family to stay at Charlottes place!

Thornythwaite Farm is a cosy smallholding tucked into the foot of the fells above Ullswater lake. We're lucky enough to have space to work and play in this beautiful place, and for our growing menagerie of hens, ducks, sheep and bees. The fells are on our doorstep with the lake a 5 minute drive down into the valley and Keswick and Penrith are both easily reached in quarter of an hour. Dockray is a 5 minute walk down the road and is home to The Royal hotel which serves great food all day.
    Cosy en-suite bedroom.
The farm stands alone in its own land, surrounded by fields but with easy access to the road and local footpaths. It is a quiet and peaceful location, lots of birdsong and lovely views. There is the 400 year old Matterdale Church just across the road and a smattering of five neighbouring houses. The village of Dockray is a 7 minute walk away along a footpath which follows the road where The Royal Hotel serves food and drink. Thornythwaite Farm is a great location, nestled in the hills in the valley of Matterdale, close to lake Ullswater and great for walks. It is a lovely hour’s walk through woodland and past the water falls (Aira Force) to the lake where boats (the Ullswater Steamers) make trips to various points around the lake including Pooley Bridge . There are trails along the lake as well as walks up into the hills. There is a Sailing centre in Glenridding for boat hire.

The Garden Flat is in a wonderfully peaceful location overlooking Ullswater with panoramic views of timeless yet ever-changing fells, lake and sky. Experience it all from the bay window seat, sofa or even the bed, from the bench outside or on the lawns of Wreay Mansions. Step out of our front door in to an unforgettable landscape. We're on the Ullswater Way walking route and Pooley Bridge is close by. Enjoy a pint brewed at the Brackenrigg Inn. Fine dine or wild swim at Another Place.
This superbly-situated flat has already enjoyed some big changes – the start of a transformation to make it the perfect place to enjoy Ullswater. There is an open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge with new John Lewis oven, hob and dishwasher, new pans by Green Pan and a striking teal sofa by Gallery Hudson. In the bedroom we have a new Ercol Teramo double bed, and you can enjoy luxurious linen from Tielle Love Luxury – we discovered it at the fabulous Pig hotels chain. There's a new Sony Bravia TV with around 80 channels and radio stations available and if you have a Netflix account you can connect up. And you can listen to your own music using our Minirig speaker. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a bath and a shower. There is a lobby so you don't need to bring muddy boots or wet gear in to the flat. And a private parking bay is included. The flat has an impressive sandstone portico and a huge bay window where the views of Ullswater and the fells – including Helvellyn – are unforgettable.
Wreay Mansions is a cluster of apartments converted from a historic 19th century hunting lodge with elevated views of Ullswater – Wainwright's "loveliest of lakes" and the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The new Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Just down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn with more great views, food including Sunday lunch, its own microbrewery and – in winter – a big, roaring fire. Bustling Pooley Bridge – with its pubs, shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is a new temporary footbridge and free car park to use until the new stainless steel crossing opens this spring to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge or the famous Sharrow Bay hotel on the opposite shore. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. Fuel is competitive and there's great local food and drink on sale.
  • My partner and I spent two nights at the Garden Flat. It was absolutely lovely and the perfect place to wind down and enjoy nature. The view is incredible and the flat is located on a quiet hill. The pub at the bottom of the hill is perfect for some tasty food that will fill you up for not too much money. From the house it's very easy to get to the Ullswater Way that will take you through the hills. Definitely recommend! Best wishes, Lisa and Scott

Check in process was all very simple with a lock box and the view from the apartment, across the yard and to the lake/mountains is stunning no matter the weather! Motherby House is an 18th century grade II traditional farmhouse, the house has lost none of its original charm. Hooks embedded in oak beams show where bacon was once cured and log fires add to the warm homely atmosphere. Families are always welcome. Unwind and relax in our oak beamed living room with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and a selection of home made cakes. There is off road parking and secure storage for cycles. The hamlet of Motherby, is positioned between Penrith and Keswick.
A traditional former lakeland farm house with secret walled garden.
Motherby is a small quiet village surrounded by open fields. Motherby has a scenic backdrop of both the Lake District fells and the Pennines. The national park boundary runs at the end of the village. We have pubs near to us that all serve good food and cask ales. The Coast to Coast cycle route runs through Motherby. The next village of Greystoke has village shop & post office a pub which does great food and in summer a open air heated swimming pool and a cycle cafe.
  • Great location for plotting north Lake District, easy access and lovely farmhouse

  • Jacquie's place, Motherby House, is a superb place to call "home" during your time in the Lakes District! It is cozy, yet spacious, and spotlessly clean! Our family of five, with three adult children, booked both rooms and were wonderfully comfortable and treated like royalty by Jacquie and her husband. The location is peaceful and quiet with an abundance of nearby adventures and activities. Add to this an absolutely outstanding breakfast, perfect communication, easy check-in and out procedures, and kind and friendly hosts and who could ask for more? We would absolutely stay at Motherby House again!

  • A truly gorgeous renovated barn perfect for two, with a fireplace and lovely mezzanine floor. The host left us beers and chocolate which was incredibly lovely, and it was close to everything we could have wanted - Keswick, Ullswater, Skiddaw, etc! It felt very homey and comfortable. I'm already planning our return. Would highly recommend this place!

  • A stunning cottage with a log stove, fully equipped kitchen, lovely bath and brilliant living space. We had a great NYE and drove a mere 20min the next day to Glenridding near Ullswater and hiked up to Helvellyn. Exquisite start to the decade!

If you have children to entertain, Lowther Castle is less than an hour's walk along the river from the house and their amazing Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind are always a hit. You can enjoy the return walk through the pretty village of Askham via the Punchbowl Inn, Askham Hall Garden Cafe or the Queen's Head. There's also a small traditional village store in Askham stocking a good range of food and drink. In summer, there's a well kept heated outdoor swimming pool in Askham, open weekends and weekday afternoons through the school holidays. There are a wide variety of activities and great village pubs either within walking distance or close by. The award winning Askham Hall restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin Star, is only 1.5 miles away! The nearest supermarkets and shops are in Penrith, 15mins drive. For keen walkers, Ullswater is only 3 miles away on foot, over the fell above our village, where you can join the Ullswater Way and combine a walk with a ride on one of the Ullswater Steamers. Or you can continue walking along the old 'Roman road' footpath across the fell towards Haweswater, giving access to the 'High Street' range of mountains.
  • Claire and Chris are wonderful and thoughtful hosts. My wife, daughter, and I had a lovely time visiting for four nights in mid-March. The property is everything it is billed to be: a beautifully renovated old barn, surprisingly commodious and comfortable. And the location is excellent as a base for exploring the Lake District.

  • You really won’t regret staying here. A lovely cosy cottage, with everything you might need. A warm welcome from the thoughtful host awaits you, with lots of tips of what to go see & do. Highly recommended!

    Angus2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage, at an outstanding location and two amazing hosts. The cottage is very spacious and has a very warm feeling. The location is marvellous and close to many local attractions. Claire was very welcoming and extremely helpful with tips and suggestions for activities; they were quick to bring us bottled water when the bad weather cause damage on pipes and the water pressure was reduced. We had a great break, enjoying not only the outdoors but also the cottage and hope to get there soon for some more

    Spiridoula2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful picturesque location. This property is great if you want peace and quiet, is spotlessly clean and Claire and Chris are very welcoming. We loved our stay and will be back very soon.

  • The cottage has a lovely view of the lake and is right next to idyllically grassing sheep. For Wifi access you have to head up to the bar, but it was also nice hanging out there for a bit and chatting with the owners of the park and getting some insider information.

The site shop provided all the essentials and the bar was very welcome :) Susan was a great host with quick communications. We'd love to stay again next time we're in the area.

    Liz2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay and amazing hospitality. Only glitch there's no wifi in the rooms. The staff and especially Susan were very courteous and helpful all the way.

  • Brilliant location and outlook onto Ullswater from our cottage (nbr 3). A good healthy walk to Aira Falls via the very close, Ullswater Way. A bit hairy doing the evening walk back from the Brakenrigg Inn though along the road. The cottage had everything we needed, and the shower was fantastic!! Lovely place.

A stunning, modern cottage set within an ex-farm conversion. Views across the Eastern Lake District and Blencathra. Two double bedrooms, and two bathrooms make it a perfect getaway for two couples or a family. The cottage is only 5 minutes off the M6, and you can be on the edge of Lake Ullswater within 15 minutes. The local village has a fantastic country pub dating from the 17th Century, swimming pool and shop. This really is the perfect location for discovering the Lake District!
The cottage is situated in an ex-farm: Red Barn Farm. Originally part of Greystoke Castle Estate, Red Barn is comprised of 5 separate dwellings, two houses are occupied by the joint owners, and the remaining three are let for holidays. Red Barn is set in 2 acres of beautiful garden, which our free-range chickens love to wander. You can see straight across to Blencathra from our houses. Feel free to use the outdoor patio area for eating or relaxing.
Greystoke is a rural village, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by mountains, and only 10-15mins from the nearest lake, it is a picturesque area. The village of Greystoke, which can be reached by a 5-10min walk from the property, has a great pub, swimming pool in the summer and village shop/post office. The property is only 5mins from the M6, Junction 40.
  • Had a brilliant time at the beautiful cottage. The place was very clean, tidy and spacious, tasteful decor. lovely countryside location, away from it all. Spent evenings by the wood burning stove, which was great after spending days exploring amazing lakes and mountains. Really appreciated thoughtful touches such as milk, fudge and a bottle of Prosecco. Would highly recommend

Clean and well presented throughout, with a friendly host and lots of tips for local hot spots. The location was great, with lots of beautiful spots in the northern lakes nearby, along with practical amenities in nearby Penrith. We would definitely stay again and have already recommend to others.

  • The description of the apartment was 100% accurate. It's in a perfect position for Pooley Bridge and all of its amenities. We've had a perfect stay ! Thank you .

    John2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! Stayed here end of January 2020 with my fiancé and our dog for our 5 year anniversary as a weekend away. Pooley Bridge is a fantastic little village in beautiful surroundings. Handy shop next door to the apartment, pub and cafe also. Didn’t visit the cafe however the pub next door was very good, great food and friendly staff. The people in the village were all very friendly and welcoming, we met some really great people during our stay. The apartment itself was immaculate. Apart from an unfortunate problem with one of the light units upon arrival which was rectified almost immediately by Hazel. There were various little touches which didn’t go unnoticed but makes a massive difference, for example ear plugs, face wipes and various leaflets for days out in the lakes. For the dog there was a basket with throws, dog bed and a bowl ! The apartment was always warm, if anything too hot for January! But there’s a smart meter to adjust if needed. WiFi was spot on. Bathroom immaculate, shower and bath great, shampoo and shower gel provided, hairdryer to use and plenty of clean towels. Bed was seriously comfy!! Also a mini dressing table in the bedroom. Kitchen was great again, everything you need, all the utilities appeared brand new?! Living room / sofa area was fine, if you’re spending all your time on the sofa your doing the lakes wrong!! Ullswater is a 2 min walk away, the views are spectacular as they are around a lot of the lakes, however having it on your door step is an added extra. The steamer boat is a 5 minute walk away across the bridge as well. I really can’t complain about the stay in general at all, the bridge in the village is under repair due to a storm which meant access to the other side of the Ullswater was more difficult however we knew about this prior to arriving so wasn’t an issue as we walked everywhere anyway. Parking was hard to come by, we were lucky most nights to get a space in the car park outside the pub which is free but again nothing that Colin / hazel can do about that and there are other car park spaces around the village if required. Overall a perfect stay and we will definitely look at staying here again! 10/10

    Lewis2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly placed apartment overlooking the river where you can sit in the kitchen and eat breakfast while watching the wildlife. With a nice smart tv and comfortable furnishings and a bed that doesn’t hurt your back the place was really perfect. The place was absolutely spotless and the kitchen is new and very smart. For two it’s the perfect retreat for a break. The surrounding area speaks for itself. I can’t get enough of the Lake District. So many things to see and do I need to get back her very soon. Thanks to the hosts our stay was that bit more special.

    Stuart2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage in a perfect location for exploring around Ullswater out the lakes in general. This was our second stay and pretty sure we'll be back for a third

    Kris2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this cottage for a relaxed New Years and Anniversary trip away and it couldn’t have been more perfect for it. The apartment is spotless and spacious with a location that couldn’t have been better. It’s central location is meters from good food, pubs, local stores and a stones throw from Ullswater. This meant we could easily set out on walks throughout the day and choose a new place to eat every night without having travel, and with Penrith a 10 minute drive away that offered even more choice. The apartment is great value for money and the hosts are very responsive, I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice and comfortable apartment with an excellent indoor pool and hot tub and also a gym. I would definitely recommend this place very happy with my stay here

  • I had a perfect Christmassy getaway here. If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful and secluded to get away from it all- this is it. The self contained apartment has everything you need for a stay away, home away from home. The bed is huge and so so comfy. The bath is also big and perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day. The space is sparkling clean and situated just upstairs from reception and the pool/spa facilities, so you don’t even need to go outside to get there. But don’t worry about any noise, all I could hear in the evenings and at night was the odd sheep bahhh-ing and, silence! Bliss! Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, and I’d love to go back already- I didn’t want to leave.

    Jess2019-12-21T00:00:00Z

  • Highly recommend staying at this gorgeous place. The hosts are so friendly and helpful with local suggestions and the location is perfect for exploring the western Lake District. We loved how comfortable the bothy was, and it was so warm and the fireplace was a lovely feature. We would highly recommend this as a base.

  • Lovely quite place. Very warm inside. Nice welcoming touches . Biscuits, sherry and chocolates. Helpful people , that went out of their way to accommodate us. Very clean . Kitchen small but you can use the facilities off the conservatory, which houses a big fridge freezer if really needed. Went past a few times trying to find but go downa couple of roads down from the hotel .

  • A perfect base for our trip to the lakes. Compact and cosy with all the essentials. John was very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if we return to the area. Thank you!

  • The Bothy is a lovely, self catering place to stay. It was extremely clean and cosy, especially with the wood burner. John and Julia made us feel very welcome and were fantastic hosts. We’d definitely stay again if we needed to stop in the area again. Thank you.

    Sarah2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean and cosy getaway for a couple. The only downside was not being able to rely on the Sat Nav to find the location. We had to resort to phoning John who promptly came to our rescue. I would have no qualms recommending this accommodation to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in this area.

Walking distance to a great local pub and superbly situated for Ullswater and into Penrith. Would highly recommend!

  • We were really comfortable. The place was sparkly clean and warm. Hosts were very friendly and flexible. Breakfasts were great and of course the area round Ullswater is amazing.

  • I was taken care of for 4 days by traveling alone. There was no bus on weekends, but the host checked the recommended walking points every morning and sent them to the bus stop where the bus was out. Postcard-like scenery, farms have footpaths everywhere, so you can walk inside. Very recommended. Sindy and Terry (and lovely colli) were very nice and thoughtful! The room and en-suite bathroom were clean and tidy, also full English breakfast was lovely. You'll see the view like postcard. I'll definitely come back! Ryoko

  • What a wonderful experience we had at La Ruche in Tirril! Sindy and Terry were the perfect hosts. They were very willing to answer any of our questions and make recommendations, all the while totally respecting our privacy. Our accommodations were spotless and the bountiful breakfast filled us to the brim! In addition, the separate entrance gives real indépendance to the traveler. We would return to La Ruche again and again!

  • From the moment of booking our stay, Terry and Sindy have been nothing but helpful! The location was great, the house was beautiful and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious and filling. Terry and Sindy were great hosts advising us on places to visit and eat. Would highly recommend anyone visiting Lake District to stay here. It was really a 10/10 experience and couldn’t fault it in any way.

Thoughtful extras and fabulous hospitality make this bed and breakfast the perfect choice for walkers, travellers and adventurers alike.
Vintage and modern mix styled rooms and accessories
Beautiful open countryside with a fantastic pub across the road
  • A friendly and warm welcome, terrific breakfasts, space to dry wet clothes if necessary and lots of local knowledge. Keswick is ten minutes drive for a variety of evening meals and there is a pub opposite if preferred.

    Joe2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant location. Easy to get too, convenient for the Eastern Fells and Keswick. Just across the road from a very nice pub. Warm clean rooms, with a guest sitting room which is a nice touch. Really helpful looking after our bikes. Excellent breakfast and really handy local knowledge

    Alasdair2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Easy to find location with a great view from the breakfast room. Offered a cup of tea when we arrived before we had unpacked the car. Great breakfasts and hospitality. Looking forward to a return visit.

    Yvonne2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place had everything you could imagine, we were greeted like family. As soon as we arrived the kettle was on and the hosts were helping us get our day sorted. All the advice was absolutely stellar and we had a couple of fantastic days out. But the best part was the atmosphere around the BnB. It was clean and kept like a hotel but with a relaxed, chat to your neighbors vibe. We heard all about everyone's adventures and top tips. The last evening we just sat in the conservatory/breakfast room eating snacks and chatting and we met everyone and was looking out on the hills. Couldn't have asked for a better stay or hosts!

    Stephanie2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely, dog-friendly bnb! We felt really welcome here, rooms were clean and cosy, easy to get to, lovely views and the breakfast was great. Pub over the road (always a good thing) and it does good food too. Quiet at night. The owner kindly helped us with things to do/walking routes and lent us a map. We’d love to return in winter!!

    Kathryn2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time visiting the Lake District. The location of the bnb is as perfect for discovering the northern part of the lakes. Our hosts were really knowledgeable and friendly. The style and decor of the house was fantastic- would highly recommend room 6. Breakfast and views over breakfast are really lovely- all together great value.

    Ebru2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • A Perfect Weekend. The location is great and the views from the breakfast area are breathtaking. Highlights are, and in no particular order: the hosts, the breakfast and the sleep/room. You can't fault it. We'll go back in a heartbeat.

The surrounding fells offer walkers plenty of choice, from strenuous climbs to lakeside rambles with the Helvellyn range, High Street and some of the Wainwright's well known walks all within a short distance. The Lake district centres of Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick are easy excursions from the cottage. There are numerous places to visit and things to do in the area and you are more than welcome to pick up any leaflets from the shop at Ullswater Holiday Park.
  • A lovely tranquil cottage with no surrounding buildings, so very quiet and peaceful. Everything was clean. Check in was easy and everything went smoothly

    Anthony2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little barn in the middle of nowhere down a gravel track across several fields. Kitchen is a good size and well equipped for cooking - although we missed having a wooden spoon! Shower lovely and hot and the barn was super warm and welcoming when we arrived. Check in is by lock box, no problem at all. Internet and phone signal is patchy but that’s what we went for - a great little hideaway with views of Ullswater. Thanks Susan!

    Lindsay2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location with amazing views; comfortable, quiet, a real hidden gem! Would recommend if you want to forget the world a while 😊

    Sam2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • we had such a lovely time, the space is amazing and the pictures don’t do it justice! the track up to the cottage goes through a few fields full of sheep, but they’ll move out of your way with no problem. the views from the property are amazing, and we’ll definitely miss sitting out on the back porch in the morning with a cup of tea! the location is second to none, and the absence of wifi was a godsend - bring books and board games and you’ll enjoy something not so routed in technology. we had food at a local pub up the road in Dacre called The Horse & Farrier - would recommend for a bit of lunch! we also visited a local waterfall at Aira Force which is about 15 minutes drive down the road. my partner and i are already planning to return in future for a break from the city, and would recommend for anyone looking to do the same. we have also recommended the place to friends and family!

    Darren2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Hidden Place lives up to its name, secluded, hidden and gloriously quiet. However, one is still fast by car to all sorts of beautiful places, restaurants and shopping. The view from the terrace over the Ullswater lake and the picturesque landscape around it is breathtaking. The house is cozy and nicely decorated and everything was very clean. The best we liked the already mentioned view, the sheep pasture directly adjacent to the terrace, the excursion to the nearby Dalemain House with wonderful gardens and the great location! We hope to be back someday.

    Juliane & Felix2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our mini moon holiday at this lovely cottage. It’s much bigger than looks, and super comfy. The cottage was spotlessly clean & welcome tray of bread, shortbread, teas & coffees, milk & bottle of wine were very much appreciated! We enjoyed uninterrupted views over Ullswater, and not a road or person in sight. Not sure who felt there was not enough natural light in a previous review! Only note is that the flies can be troublesome, so we did not leave doors & windows open. Wouldn’t hesitate to return, thanks.

    Philippa2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Super clean with great facilities. If you do stay here we'd definitely recommend checking out the Another Place restaurant which is 18 minutes walk away and does some great food on the side of the lake.

    Herbie2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Hidden Place is really somewhere special. The location is beautiful, surrounded by views and only the cows and sheep as neighbours! Everything was clean and tidy and check in was very simple. It’s definitely bigger and more spacious than it seems in the Photos’s. The bed was very comfy and we had everything we needed. It was fantastic to arrive to bread, butter, wine and the essentials. Nice touch!! Highly recommend if you want a quiet “getting away from it all” holiday in the Lakes.

This traditional farmhouse located in the Lowther Valley offers a great place to explore the Lake District! Short walks to Ullswater, Lowther Castle, wild river swimming and more. I live in the house with my border collie so can offer more local tips as well. It’s a large house with multiple rooms so can offer privacy or more shared space depending on what your looking for.
In the house there is a games room/bar, a little warm snug with a fire, larger living room with a fire, a spacious kitchen with aga and a secondary kitchen with electric cooker and washing machine. There are also three bathrooms in the house as well, two upstairs with a bath and shower in each and one downstairs toilet.
Very rustic place located in a private area. Short walk to local village of Askham which has lots of options for pubs. Really fun place for those looking to go on walks, bike rides and others adventures around the lakes!
  • Had a wonderful time in the Lakes, well looked after, some lovely local pubs and really easy access to some gorgeous walks. Accessible by car. James provides some easy to follow directions closer to the time. Would love to return in summer.

  • Stayed for one night at James place while competing in Lakeland Trail Runs. Location was great for our needs. Communication with James was great from my initial enquiry to arriving. James housemate, Guy, met us and showed us around. The farmhouse was quirky and full of character and spotlessly clean. Guy gave us tips on where to eat and told us all about the upcoming development of the area. Will definitely return if looking to stay in this area again.

  • Thanks so much for having us. We really loved the 12th century farmhouse. It's a great space with such character. We would love to come back and see how the farmhouse develops over the next few years. Really good location and great value for money. Our dog loved exploring and meeting Ruby and Bo. We slept well and the location was perfect to explore the lakes, and pop back onto the M6. Fab local pubs and beautiful views of the fells all around. See ya'll soon. Sarah, Dave & Mali

  • An unbelievable big farmhouse at such a beautiful location! Easily the best place I've stayed so far! James helped us a lot by giving us great tips for hiring our mountainbikes, and even messages friends to give us tips on where we could ride some great trails! We had a great stay and will definitely come back one day!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay, the farm house is set in an amazing spot with beautiful countryside views, very quirky and full of character. The bedroom is nicely furnished and the bed is sooo comfy. James is very attentive host and knows the area well. The highlight though, has to be Ruby, the border collie puppy :)

    Margareta2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended for a quiet retreat in a genuine and ancient farmhouse. Rustic, charming and clean, welcoming and comfortable. James was a wonderful host, he's just starting out with Airbnb and we would very much recommend staying in his farmhouse.

  • We loved the rustic charm the farmhouse had to offer. Set it the most beautiful location we felt like we had completely escaped the modern world. This said, the farmhouse was really accessible off the M6. Great value for money and a really helpful host. Thank you!

  • We loved our stay at Lake View. The house has all mod-cons and is well furnished and very well equipped.

    Roz2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Totally thought through. Set up for a superb guest experience. Very modern and easy place to stay. Nice touches like firewood ready to burn. A totally professional offer. I suspect it’s 100% commercial let. No personal touches which is good for me but others might want to live in the shoes of the owners a little. We picked up some ideas for our own let in Yeovil called Aldon.

    Edward2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the house and everything about it. It is a beautiful property - the views are spectacular, the rooms and bathrooms in spectacular condition and everything was so well thought about - the kitchen, the rainy day cupboard, the books, the brochures, etc. The space gave us the perfect way to spend time together as a family and enjoy private time too. We are glad we chose this property to stay in for our Lake District visit.

  • Booked this as a break for my parents. They loved it, it was a beautiful house and a lovely area. They gave us plenty of information about how to get there easily and there was plenty of places for them to visit.

  • This is our second time staying at Jan and Dans beautiful cottage. Hope we get back soon. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Hopland Cottage is homely and comfortable. A real home from home. Jan and Dan were the perfect hosts, friendly and welcoming. The offer to pick me up and take me to the train station was an added touch I wasn’t expecting. It made my travel so much easier. Easy access to Penrith and Keswick on the bus, 5mins walk away. Village is friendly and quiet. Walks from the door. A really peaceful and relaxing stay x

  • Simply perfect! Beautifully appointed but homely cottage in a stunning location. Would highly recommend 👍🏻

    Annette2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jan and Dan set the highest standards for being super hosts! Their attention to every detail was remarkable...initial greeting & orientation, informative well-prepared house book, great tips & recommendations, etc. They anticipated every comfort & convenience and supplied it with generosity. We were delighted to meet them! And the dear, beautifully restored cottage was a complete luxury of charming comfort: furnishings, linens, decorating, all amenities were the highest quality & such a pleasure to enjoy. Oh, and the very beautiful garden & patio was a joy. Hopland Cottage is not a standard Airbnb. It is exceptional! We rented for a month and felt we were in a dreamy storeybook illustration, that we didn't want to leave. As an added bonus, Stainton is a sweet village & a perfect location for day trips to the surrounding towns & lakes. Also, the nearby buses are reliable, comfortable & a good alternative to using the car. If you want to visit the lovely Lake District, you couldn't choose a more perfect home away from home.

  • We loved our stay at Hopland cottage! The cottage was tastefully decorated, warm and inviting and had all one would need for a "delightful weekend in the country" I'm quoting from the film, Withnail and I, I'm a huge fan, a lot of the movie was filmed in the surrounding areas, which the hosts were aware of and they were happy to give us a little more history on that, which was greatly appreciated. It's a perfect spot for some amazing walks, pub lunches and of course a beautiful drive to Lake Windermere, even through it rained most of the time, we thoroughly enjoyed it and still managed to take a boat out on the lake and enjoy some cosy fireside dinners. Would highly recommend! Thank you again Jan & Dan!

It was great to be snuggled up looking out at all the landscape, but we would love to come back in warmer months to make the most of being outdoors too! • A little slice of heaven in the Lake District. We fell in love with the boathouse, every little detail has been considered, a perfect little get away with the most magical views. We lapped up every minute from the log fire, to cups of tea over looking the lake and made a beautiful tea in the kitchen (that quite possibly has every utensil going!). When we did venture to Pooly Bridge the local amenities were great, we pitstopped in Granny Doubekins where the team were so lovely! Would 100% recommend to anyone, we are already looking for a date to come back 💕

Ryebank Cottage is in the beautiful, rural village of Bampton. It's a 5-minute walk from the River Lowther and offers a wealth of walks from the front door. A 10-minute drive away is Haweswater which is a great place to have a very peaceful hill walk. In the other direction, Pooley Bridge is more populated and offers diversions such as hiring a rowing boat or travelling up the Lake on a steamer. There are lots of places to eat, the nearest being just a 5-minute walk from the cottage.
The cottage has two bedrooms: a double with king size bed and en-suite toilet and wash basin and the other with two single beds. There's a spacious lounge with woodburning stove (fuel provided) and a kitchen with a dining area. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, freezer, microwave etc. The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a shower above the bath. There is an enclosed garden with lawn and a separate seating area. The cottage is in a peaceful mews with a number of other properties, mostly holiday accommodation. It's a 2-minute walk to the village shop, which has limited supplies.
  • Very lovely home and views. Clean and quiet. Tasty dinner at the Punchbowl pub. Nice drive past the castle in the neighborhood. Overall great stay.

  • We had a fantastic weekend, the cottage is beautiful and the photos don’t really do it justice, especially the main sitting room which is big and open with a beautiful fire place. Charlotte as a host was fantastic, she went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as good as can be. Bampton is a lovely little village with great scenery nearby.

  • I have never rated a review as high as I do for this cottage. I could write a detailed list and instead, just say we have high standards and they were exceeded in every aspect. If you like what you read in the description and see in the photos, you will not be disappointed. Attention to detail has been the focus from the directions to get there, to the quality of the linens. Wifi speeds are excellent as are the amenities in the kitchen. Do yourself a favor and book this one!

    Ron2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place to stay. Very clear directions sent well in advance of our stay made finding the cottage nice and easy on a dark night! Lots of little touches to make us feel welcome and more than reasonably priced. Thanks very much!

  • Charlotte's place was easy to find and our old Sat Nav took us right to its doors. Private parking was available . The cottage was amazing and lovely and very homely . Just through the lounge there was a private garden with views to die for . The room was cozy and the kitchen had all amenities. We even used the pasta that was left in the kitchen cupboard and to our surprise , there was cheese and crackers and 3 different local goodies in the fridge which we enjoyed with our wine. We used some coal and wood and lit the fire in the fireplace , it was very easy to light it and also easy to clean it afterwards. We were only there for one night and couldn't enjoy the walks , but my husband had a good 5 minute walk and got us milk and eggs in the morning . Outstanding stay !
