We are Located half way between the Coast and Cradle Mountain World Heritage Area. Cradle Mountain has ancient forests, walking tracks, abundant native wildlife and stunning scenery. Other nearby places are Leven Canyon., Gunns Plains Caves, and the nightly parade of Little penguins. After sightseeing each day, relax on the verandah with your wine to watch the beautiful sunset and wait for the nightly wildlife visitors or sit by the fire in the lounge room with a book if it is chilly.
2 tastefully furnished rooms each have their own ensuites, queen size beds, electric blankets, bedside tables, lamps, linen and toiletries. There is also a 3rd room upstairs with king size bed, or 2 singles if needed ,and this room has its own separate bathroom. Please note that the rate is per room per night. A full breakfast is included in the room price, and by prior arrangement we can also offer a home cooked evening meal for an extra fee. Each room has a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms open onto the verandah where you can sit enjoy fantastic views over the valley below. Unfortunately, there is a small lip into the shower making it not so wheelie friendly. The fireplace will be on and waiting for you on those chilly winters evenings where you can sit and talk about your days adventures. We are happy to chat or leave you to enjoy the serenity .
Wilmot is a quaint little village on the way to Cradle Mountain World Heritage Park.. There is a fabulous local museum and a country store to get fuel or some provisions to take to Cradle Mountain with you. Wilmot is a farming area nestled on the side of Lake Barrington. A town Hall market every change of season is a must do with local produce and other goodies for sale.
  • This Air B & B is really situated to explore the local area. It’s a lovely house with a great view and the breakfast each morning is filling and delicious. Susie and Peter are sociable and hospitable and made us feel really at home. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

  • The Robin’s Nest is perfectly situated for a few days full of different travels in Tasmania (ranging from Leven’s Canyon, Cradle Mountain, caves to Stanley). When you come back from your trips, and sit down at their table, it feels like coming home every time. I had an wonderful stay in their beautiful place.

  • This is an amazing place to stay. Peter and Susie are such warm, welcoming and friendly hosts. They are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area, sharing tips and offering advice. We had such a lovely time staying in their beautiful home. We were disappointed we could only stay three nights. Thank you Peter & Susie for making our visit to Cradle so memorable

  • The hosts are big fans of Tasmania having travelled the entire island themselves. They have tons of stories to tell about the history and gave us great recommendations where to go. A big benefit was the breakfast in the morning. It gave us enough energy to climb the Cradle Mountain and a carefree start in the day. Peter and Susie have been very thoughtful and helpful during our entire stay. We would stay here again.

    Laura2018-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and warm house with Peter and Susie always here to help. Great breakfast, we will have to come back for their dinner and go see the penguins in Burnie again.

The B&B is spotlessly clean, with a friendly and helpful welcome and everything you could want: a comfy bed, hot shower, heating and air con, delicious breakfast and great communal spaces. More of a boutique hotel than standard B&B!

Tanglewood is an historically important Federation home (c.1906) surrounded by 3/4 acre of relaxed English gardens, birdsong and the occasional possum! This much loved home is located less than a minutes walk from the centre of Sheffield, but is beautifully peaceful and private. As you drive down our street, you will be awed by the majestic Mount Roland that stands as a sentinel over our daily lives. We are delighted to live here and to share our home and our town with our guests.
We have only owned Tanglewood for a short time, so it is a work in progress and a labour of love. The garden is glorious, especially in Spring, Summer and Autumn. In winter, there is a crackling open fire in the living room! We have two rooms available, this one in a Queen room with en-suite suitable for two people. (If you click on my profile picture, you will see the listing for both rooms). There is a small snack and drinks menu available for your convenience and complimentary sherry in your room along with a fridge, kettle, quality coffee bags and a selection of teas. Wifi and Netflix are included and for your personal use, there is a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board can be provided on request. Washing and drying can also be accommodated for a small fee, depending on time constraints. All tissues, toilet paper, soaps, lotions, shampoo and conditioner are Australian made (Tasmanian made when available), organic and environmentally friendly. Where possible, we use similar products for cleaning. These have the added bonus of being non-allergenic and good for the Earth. Our space is shared by a very special cat, named Coco. She is a well-loved Torbi who believes that we are her happy slaves and the garden is her personal paradise. She can be rather timid, but will probably seek you out when you least expect it. She is not allowed into the guest rooms, but that doesn't mean she won't try!
Sheffield is possibly the friendliest town we have ever lived in! Located only 20 minutes from Devonport and just over an hour to both Cradle Mountain and Launceston, it is a hub for tourists and locals alike. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, encompassing mountains and lakes through to farmland and finally the coast. Known as the Town of Murals, Sheffield has a thriving artisan community, great cafes and restaurants and important services including a Post Office, chemist, medical centre and the pub! Ideally situated for exploring the many different experiences available, close by you will find Lake Barrington, an international rowing course and boating mecca, the Mole Creek Caves, Tasmazia and the Village of Lower Crackpot, the Tasmanian Arboretum and the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Track, to name just a few attractions. We are on the doorstep of Cradle Mountain, the Overland Track, Walls of Jerusalem National Park and other single to multi day hikes through some of Tasmania's richest wilderness areas. Why not base yourself with us and traverse the many delights of our region - arts and crafts, galleries, truffles, wine and cider, cheese, chocolate, seasonal fresh fruit and berries and the charming coastal towns dotted along Bass Strait. Or, just sit in our garden with a cuppa or a glass of wine and enjoy some time out.
  • Sheree’s B&B is very nice and she is great. It’s an older house with beautiful grounds. The room was wonderful. Nice bed, nice bathroom and shower. She made a nice breakfast in the morning. It was everything you would expect in a quality B&B.

    John2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sheree's house is an amazing piece of history in the Kentish area. We were impressed with the collection of wall pictures and paintings, and the library for reading. Within walking distance to the centre of Sheffield, there's plenty to do and access to all amenities that Sheffield has to offer. We will certainly stay again if we are in the area!

There are myriad things to do in Tasmania's North West. Visit Lake Barrington and throw a line in, climb Mt. Roland or gaze in awe at Cradle Mountain. We are surrounded by vineyards, breweries and cideries. Sheffield, the Town of Murals has an abundance of coffee shops and brilliant places to eat. Or simply take a seat at Devil's Corner, our north facing terrace that overlooks the wetlands below. You may be lucky and see one of the resident platypuses. There is so much to see and do here. History is literally on our doorstep.
  • Anne and Robert were really great hosts. They both were super nice, welcoming and friendly. Robert took us to see some platypus and Anne gave us really nice tips around Barrington. The BnB is well located; just 30 minutes to the Cradle Mountains!

He also cooked us a delicious meal for dinner which was very much appreciated after a long day driving and hiking. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are in the area.

  • We stayed in the Sassafras room which was a great fit for us. The renovated church is beautiful and the common areas downstairs have a lot of beautiful natural lighting. Anne and Robert were super helpful in recommending things in the area and made a delicious breakfast before we left for our cradle mountain hike the next morning (only a little over an hour’s drive from their place). Would definitely recommend!

  • Great location, rustic setting and the food was great!

  • A clean, comfortable accommodation that offers a great place to relax after a day of hiking. The restaurant/bar is great to hang out in too and meet other travellers. The accommodation is not that far from cradle mountain and easy to find.

    Clarissa2018-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The place was lovely! Very close to cradle mountain where we visited. We had dinner at the lodge and it was great!

  • Lovely mountains cabin, well equiped and clean. Great stay

  • We stayed in the Platypus suite and it was lovely and private. The room was great and breakfast sufficient. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Wish wi-fi was available but other than that a great place to stay. Recommend.

    Andrew2018-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay if you are visiting the cradle mountains. The suite was quite nice and was nestled in the forest. The food in the restaurant was quite nice. The breakfast could have been better

    Vignesh2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Private cabin was very clean and pleasant. The grounds of the lodge are superb and we saw wallabies when we walked out in the evening. There is nowhere else within 30km to eat at night, but the food at the lodge was great, and I can definitely recommend the lamb pie if it is on the menu again. Staff were very helpful. Good base for visiting Cradle Mountain as it is only 20mins drive to the start of the Park.

Set on 25 acres only 8 of which has been cleared the balance is rainforest. The house is built 3.5metres in the air so you are literally in the tree tops with an abundance of native wildlife at the door. Rooms are modern, light and airy with a separate guest dining/lounge area though guests are more than welcome to join me as well.
I have built each of the rooms with five star accommodation in mind. Thus they all have private ensuite's with shower, vanity, heat lamps in ceiling fans, hair dryer including shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap and toilet . The room has reverse cycle heating and cooling, electric blanket, fridge, coffee machine, full length mirror, built in robes, wine glasses, full range of linen including bath robes, bath sheet. In the guest lounge dining area I have also included a toaster, kettle, coffee machine and sandwich maker perfect for those midnight snacks. As well as a DVD library, books and puzzles for those rainy days. Whilst the inside of the property is finished and I have rooms that are ready the outside is still a work in progress that mother nature in Tasmania in Winter has decided will perhaps not proceed much until the drier days of Spring. So I would love for people to take advantage of this at our reduced "because of Mother Nature rates"
I live in a truly beautiful part of Tasmania situated halfway between Devonport and the iconic Cradle Mountain. My property is located about 700 metres from the boat ramp as the crow flies (1.3km by road) on the Wilmot side of Lake Barrington and I do have heaps of parking for boats or vans. I am frequently visited by the Yellow Tail Black cockatoos whose cries sound like something out of Jurassic Park. I have resident semi quiet wallabies, an echidna has built a burrow in the bank so it might even have babies come spring. The resident possum loves the veggie garden as does the bandicoot. I am far enough away from the main road that my guests can sit out on the balcony close their eyes and just hear the birdsong. The village of Wilmot is 3kms away and was the home of the original Coles store which unfortunately burnt to the ground a few years ago. The Forth Falls walking track is about 700 metres down the road and you get some amazing views of Mount Roland and Lake Barrington from Buxtons Road
  • Marty’s place was a great getaway in Tassie. We explored Launceston, Cradle Mountain and it’s an easy drive to Devonport for food. Beautiful house, and Marty is a fabulous host!

    Ranee2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Marty's place is (as he described) still a work in progress and is out in the country. However the guest room is amazing, very comfortable and with a massive bathroom. There is also a private guest lounge although we didn't use it. Do note that it's approx 30 mins drive if you want to eat out, although Marty indicated he was happy for people to use his kitchen (very modern and well equiped). We went out to dinner (15 tables at Devonport) with Marty and had a great meal and very entertaining evening. We are very happy to recommend

    Philippa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. The house is massive and in a good spot for example losing Cradle Mountain. Marty is super friendly and alway up for a chat

    Sam2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Marty is a great guy, fun to talk with and he loves to share on his experience and the house building with me as a guest. We chattet until very late - was great. thank you so much for this great quality time at your house. The room is great - just see the pictures and I could see Pademelon in the morning from my window 😍. If you have no concern with the outside still under construction I do really recommend to stay with Marty.

    Ines2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. We really enjoyed the place, the hospitality, the peaceful surrounding and awesome breakfast

    Jeroen2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Marty is a great host, he made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay a lot. Even though the house wasn't quite finished, the interior was beautiful with a lot of attention to detail (e.g. in-room fridge and coffee maker, bath robes, many charging stations, female hygiene products etc.). Marty is clearly very enthusiastic about his guest house and told us many stories (and offered us wine). He even made a delicious breakfast for us in the morning which we enjoyed outside on the deck! We warmly recommend Marty's place (and hope to be able to visit again once everything is finished)!

You’ll love this house because of the views, the ambiance, the location, the people, the barbecue space out the back and 5 min to the beach. Great for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
The whole floor suite is unique because it combines 4 rooms - 2 king bed + sofa bed rooms with en-suite, a queen bed room and a bunkbed room. It can accommodate groups of up to 10 people. Its elevated location provides vista ocean views, the spaciousness it offers inside and outside, the high quality of its rooms, its spa bath, the large modern fully equiped kitchen, large dining area, sunroom and outside BBQ area. It has wonderful sea views and is just a 5 min walk to Main Road, the shops, beach esplanade, sea and beach. If you are here over a Sunday, then the famous and vibrant Penguin markets are just down the road.
Penguin is a beautiful quaint seaside village nestled close to Ulverstone and only 30 minutes from Devonport where the Spirit of Tasmania ferry comes in every day from Melbourne. It is thriving with activity during the day but is quiet and peaceful after dark. There is a wonderful short coastal drive between Penguin and Ulverstone, its own little Malfi coast. At high tide the ocean laps the walls of the promenade and at low tide it runs way out leaving a wide expanse of beach with little ponds of water and pebbles and shells that is delightful to walk across just before dark or in the early morning hours.

  • I cannot speak highly enough of the Madsen Retreat – it was very clean and luxurious, and perfectly located in the beautiful town of Penguin. Chris was excellent to deal with from start to finish and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended!

This room has the option of being configured as either a king bed or two extra long singles, depending on your requirements. (There is also a Queen room available; please click on my profile picture to see both listings.) We have only owned Tanglewood for a short time, so it is a work in progress and a labour of love. The garden is glorious, especially in Spring, Summer and Autumn. In winter, there is a crackling open fire in the living room!
  • This is a beautiful B&B and I would highly recommend it. The house and garden are just lovely and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Sheree is a great host too and provides a delicious breakfast.

  • Sheree and her place (and Coco) are lovely. Everything you could want was there on hand. Our only disappointment was that we stayed for one night not two.

    Colin2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing stay at Sheree’s place . Lovely house amazing gardens highly recommend to stay here

    Ciaran2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing stay here. Sheree was a wonderful welcoming host and had done everything she could think of to assist us during our stay. Sheree had a gorgeous historic house and garden. The room was very spacious and comfortable. And the hearty home cooked breakfast was the perfect start to a day of hikes.

    Mathieu2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We spend Xmas eve there. The house was so beautiful, clean with nice decoration. Sheree was an amazing host. She welcomed us and even gave us xmas gift. Very nice of her.

  • I scheduled a purely geographical overnight stop in Sheffield as part of whistle stop ‘ancestry’ hunt for my 90 year old mother. I never imagined that our stay at Sheree’s place would so exceed all of our expectations... not just for the peaceful amenity of her beautiful and lovingly restored historic home... but also for her warmth, hospitality and generosity of spirit which embraced us the moment of our arrival. For anyone wanting a nurturing, high end and energetically refreshing B&B experience in Tasmania with beautiful gardens and a breakie to die for... this is it! Go! Spoil yourself!

    Wendy2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you would expect and so much more. Highly recommended. Historic home set in picturesque cottage gardens. So many special touches including chocolates, liqueur, biscuits, fresh flowers, live plants in the room, new quality decor. Fantastic cooked breakfast included. I could stay there forever.

    Daphne2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we walked through the gate we experienced welcoming hospitality from Sheree. The house was spacious and spotless, and the gardens give privacy and a serene place to sit or wander. The cooked breakfast was superb.

  • Our stay at Robert and Anne's place in Barrington was fantastic. For starters, their home is in an old church that they bought and rebuilt– a super cool setting in the midst of beautiful rolling farmlands. It was the perfect base camp for our day trips to the Cradle Mountain hiking trails (just 45 minutes drive to the Visitor Center). Robert and Anne live in the home but also give you plenty of your own space. That said, do ask them about Barrington and the history of the church and you'll be in for some great stories. They cooked us an amazing breakfast of eggs, toast, and veggies. We also purchased dinner that was one of our best meals of our trip. Cap it all off with a nice cool beer after a long day of hiking, staring out at a 9pm sunset: can't beat it. And they've got Netflix too!

Breakfast for all guests is included! This room has a main bedroom with a Queen Bed and a Single Bed. The second bedroom or Sunroom has a Double Sofa Bed. The bathroom is ensuite with a toilet and shower over a bath, but note the bathroom is off the sunroom. The room is thus more suitable for families than two couples. Relax in a grand old "Federation Villa" built for a wealthy retired farmer in 1917.
A quiet location on the edge of town with pretty rural views. The house has a large garden with nice outdoor seating areas. An easy walk into town, and is on the scenic walk around the western end of the town.

  • This is a great starting point as a base for exploring all that cradle mountain has to offer. Nestled at the junction of three roads, this is the last main stop before the national park to the South. You'll find nice, clean and secluded accommodation paired with a welcoming staff & family in the main restaurant area. The sunsets are wonderful to watch from the back deck.

  • A perfect place to stay if exploring the cradle mountain region. Warm and friendly atmosphere with meals available and live music too

  • We loved the location. We felt like we were in the forest (which I guess we were)! The rooms were roomy and sparkling clean. Lovely linen on bed. We ate at the Tavern, which was very charming. The food we ate was cooked in their wood fired oven and was yummy. There were new staff on the night we stayed and they were very helpful and friendly, even though they were quite busy. And after dinner we were visited by a wallaby and her baby. All in all, a charming place.

    Janine2018-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay. Not only are the cabins in a perfect location for exploring Cradle Mountain and in unspoiled, beautiful countryside, they are also well equipped, clean and comfortable. Additionally, it was a huge bonus to have a restaurant and bar on site to save having to drive somewhere, which served very good food for an evening meal. We also had the pleasure of meeting Shane and Caroline who were excellent hosts and the other, younger staff member made check in/out super easy. Stay here!

    Tom2017-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Hearty food in a cosy environment. Much more personal, less touristy, than other lodges in the area. Great spot to explore cradle mountain and surrounds from.

  • We loved our Tasmania trip, and really enjoyed going from Beach to Mountains in a little over an hour. The best thing about this place is the location - it's really very peaceful and relaxing. We had many Wallaby's stop by for a visit, and many birds visiting the nearby trees. Dinner was good though the "free" continental breakfast was really just the bare minimum it could be and still be called breakfast. Still, the location and the view were everything we had hoped for.

    Craig2017-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot to stop over after a visit to Cradle Mountain! Loved the open fire and the spa!

    Sue2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Cradle Forrest Inn - it is not that close to any town and it is in the middle of the forest but we loved that - there is a restaurant at the Inn which we ate Breakfast and dinner at and it was great - Pizza and hamburger type menu but the pizzas are wood fired and really good and too big to get through. The rooms are quaint and in the forrest - bed was great - there is a small kitchen and a sitting area - and it is all just 30 kms or so from the Cradle Mountain national park - we would stay here rather than in the park. there is parking outside the room and a little balcony outside the room which looks out into the wilderness - we would have no hesitation in coming back - in fact we hope to to do some walking in the National Park.

  • This really is a great place. It's about a 20 minute drive to Cradle Mountain national park. The photo in the ad is the restaurant/check in area.. not where you are staying. The rooms are in different buildings just across the road. We were happy with the room.... good size and amenities. Our room had$ radiator heat so it took a while to warm up. Caroline responded quickly to any questions I had during the online process. The breakfast was fine...heavy on carbs..lol...I found the negative reviews regarding the food to be amusing since it's not the .$800+ per night Cradle Mountain Lodge! This was perfect for frequent travelers like us.

Sit beside the fire and feel its warmth while enjoying a glass of mulled wine or a steaming cup of roasted coffee on a snowy winter’s day. In summer, you can take in the scenic forest views through our full length windows in the restaurant, while enjoying a refreshing drink from the bar or a freshly brewed coffee.
  • Great stay. Very clean and amongst nature. Nice stay close to Cradle Mountain. Would highly recommend as an alternative to the park accommodations. Live music with dinner on Saturday night was a nice touch. Top notch wood fired pizza too!

  • A lovely place to get away from the business of life and disconnect. The cabins are spacious and clean. I had bought a whole heap of food to cook dinner as the listing said there would be a kitchen available. There was no kitchen but thankfully the lovely staff cooked my stir fry for me on a busy Saturday night whilst they were cooking their own dinners for paying diners. Very thankful. It’s also nice and close the cradle mountain and a great place to come back and have a wine after doing the crazy summit hike!

  • Caroline's accommodation was wonderful, we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend others to stay here. The staff were all very lovely and very accommodating. We had no issues, the only thing to mention is there is no WiFi but this was not real issue for us as we were there for the outdoors activities. The restaurant had really nice food so if you have time pop in for a meal and coffee stop.

  • After a long day of driving from Hobart, seeing the Cradle Forest Inn appear as the light was fading was a very welcome sight. The Inn has a wonderfully cozy feel, and my cabin was extremely comfortable and well appointed, and I really appreciated the basket of breakfast treats I got when I checked in. I had a very tasty dinner in front of the fire, and then a wonderful night's sleep. Caroline and her staff made me feel very welcome. I would certainly return here if ever back in Tassie, and would highly recommend the Inn for a romantic weekend away.
