You can kayak or get a ferry across - a nice day out. A different view of Auckland but i have done the kayak and it was a great day - weather dependent.

Excellent Vietnamese, an atmosphere that is fun, special or casual as you make it. If you have been to Hoi An the food will be familiar. No bookings, if there is a wait then XuXu, their sister bar/dumpling bar across the road is perfect place to wait.

This place you just feel the money (great quality fitttngs and space) - sophisticated Italian, its the sort of place that when i travel and if i found a place like it, i would feel you're in a quality place. I just love it. Some bookings but there's a chefs bar for walk-ins.

Ah, iconic Prego. Great courtyard area for summer evenings. Very child friendly early in the evening - 5-7 - good kids menu but it can be a little overrun with kids - but after this expect a wait at their bar - don't go too hungry if you turn up like the rest of town from 7 - so get in early or relax at the bar for your turn.

2.5km from the house, this is my cafe but really it is a small, made to order, toasted sandwich shop with cabinet sweets.

Sightseeing

If you love a vineyard visit for lunch or dinner you wont go wrong heading over to Waiheke. The ferry is 30mins and $40 return. There's a quaint village - buses and cabs from the ferry building. I would recommend Tantalus (book in advance) Te Motu, StoneyRidge or Mudbrick - but there are many many more. Take your togs as there are some good beaches also - or electric bikes to get around i hear.

About an hours drive out of Auckland - small market of local fair - more of a nice drive and look around the ever-growing village. Short drive to Omaha beach, Leigh or Parkari.

Getting around

Bus Car - called a HOP card.

If you plan to bus a HOP card is handy. However it is $10 for the card. Buses do take cash but best to have exact change. The Superette along the road (under 5min walk) have them. Best to download the AT Mobile app, and use the Journey Planner. Can be used for two people - just ask driver to add another person. Can be used for Ferries but you need one per person.
