KIDS and family activities
As for kids' activities, Tidelands has two pools. The second pool is geared toward kids, with fun features. The beach is so close and easily accessible. I can provide you with sand toys, chairs, and a cooler. The marina, which is less than a mile down the road, rents kayaks and possibly pedalboats. You might even be able to rent a motorboat there (not sure if membership is required). You can easily rent a pontoon boat, though, for a few hours on the water. I can provide you with more info. North up the A1A road is Marineland with the educational dolphin encounter etc. (20 mins). Continuing toward St. Augustine, there are LOADS of attractions, from Spanish forts to pirate ship excursions to trolley tours to Ripley's Museum. There is also a cool antique carousel. I personally love St. Aug with its many restaurants and boutiques, art galleries, and Lightner Museum. If you go south to Daytona (50 mins), there is a big waterpark, dog track, and Tortugas minor league baseball. Outlet stores abound both north and south. And of course, Orlando (1.5 hrs) has the major attractions!
