City advice

Getting around

Parking around town - Park, Walk, or Trolly

Parking around town is limited, but you can usually find a spot pretty quickly. The hardest times are holiday weekends and Parade days. Most parking spots are metered and use the “Passport” app to make payment easier. I typically find a spot near the Auditorium.

Parks

There are a few great parks: Harmon Park is right in town, with a dog-park, playground and skate park Lake Leatherwood has trails, Kayaks, Canoes, and a nice playground for kids. Black Bass Lake - a great circular hike (apx: 2 miles) and right on the edge of town Passion Play - is a fun and interesting place to find loads of short trails and interesting history.

Things to do with kids

Turpentine Creek is a wild cat sanctuary, with tours included all day. The farmers Market is also fun and kid-friendly. Also, check out the Carnegie Public Library and the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center for current evens relating to kids.
Don't miss

Farmer’s Market and White Street Market

We have a Farmer’s Market on Tuesday’s and Thursdays in the Spring and Summer in the Community Center parking lot from around 9am till 1pm. In the winter, hours are shortened to Thursday only from 9-12. Here you can find locally grown food, home baked bread, soaps, art, etc! The Saturday White Steet Market is held in the Ermilio’s parking lot, near Oscar’s Cafe (great breakfast!) on Saturday mornings through the spring and summer.
