Food scene

A Great food and local brew! Sitting where George Street intercepts Water Street in downtown St. John’s (the oldest city in North America), YellowBelly Brewery & Public House is a testament in stone and masonry to a time long gone. Reconstructed after the fire of 1846, it is one of few such mercantile buildings to survive the Great St. John’s Fire of 1892. Also, be sure to check out the UnderBelly! Nestled in the deep stone of the YellowBelly’s underground, resides as Newfoundland’s only Speakeasy.

As St. John’s most popular landmark, Signal Hill recalls the town’s historic past and communications triumph, as well as offering coastal hikes and colourful performances against sweeping views overlooking the Atlantic. Signal Hill was the site of St. John’s harbour defences from the 17th century to the Second World War and where Guglielmo Marconi received the world’s first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901.
