Craft Brew and Winery Scene

Local brewery with outstanding craft beers, yummy food and a very cool ambiance. Go with a group of friends, a big family (kid friendly, just bring a frisbee and a picnic blanket, in case it is crowded), or go solo. If you like adult beverages, you cannot go wrong!! Check out their website for a list of events and hours. Also check out The Empty Bottle distillery, a stones throw away from Southern Tier...almost in the same parking lot. Stbcbeer.com

Chautauqua Wine Trail - about a 30 minute drive, but most of it's along the lake and a great way to see the area. Very cool local wineries and most offer free or inexpensive taste testing. Johnson Estate winery is one of my favorites although there are about 15 or so. Check the schedule before going as sometimes they may open later in the day. Mazza is the name of one of the many on the trail as well. Please check out https://www.tourchautauqua.com/explore/wineries first to see updates and hours.

Chautauqua Institution, www.chq.org, The Institution is a unique experience that has focus on arts, education, religion, recreation, and youth. Check out there website for more details. I believe it is free on Sundays but the rest of the week there is a fee. If you are already seeing a show there, no additional cost for admittance will be charged, last I checked anyhow. You may want to call ahead to be sure.

Chautauqua Belle, if you want a good local experience you can also plan a cruise on the which is on the way to the wine trail. It is one of 4 functioning steam powered paddle wheel ships in the country and gives historic tours a couple of times a day and is a great way to check out the history of Chautauqua Lake. We just did the cruise for the first time last year and it was pretty cool. Check the website online and you can pre-register.

Getting Active!

This is a really cool hiking spot. It is about 20 minutes from the house and there is a nominal fee for entrance. If you like a hike, or even a peaceful, serene walk in a hiking area, you must check it out. We love it there, we even take our 3, 7, 8 and 10 year old there and you can pick and choose how tough a hike you would like to take. So it really is for everyone. Lucille Ball Memorial Park- it's located just a quarter mile away from the house and is a cool place to take a walk. There are beautiful new basketball hoops, pavilions, and an awesome playground for kids. There is also a brand new bathroom facility as well. There is a small lighthouse, Lucy statue, and an old school little convenience store across the street to get the kids a snack.
