City advice

Don't miss

Coexisting with Black Bears

The largest wild mammal in North Carolina, the black bear awes and fascinates visitors with it’s barrel-shaped body, powerful limbs, and glossy coat. While sighting a bear from distance can be entertaining and educational, you can take some steps to avoid interactions that might become dangerous. Q.: What should I do if I see a bear? A.: Try to stay calm. Bears are usually wary of people unless humans feed or provoke them. Never feed, approach, surround or corner the bear. If it changes its natural behaviors because of your presence, you are too close. Back away slowly, making lots of noise.

Planning Tools

Download Apps like "AllHikes" – excellent day trips around the area Website "BestOfBeech.com" is great for many local attractions, dining, shopping Stop by at Visitor Center on Beech Mountain (across from Brick Oven Restaurant) – maps, travel resources.
Book before you go

Make Reservations

With all the attractions I would always check online for their opening schedules and the way you buy tickets. With restaurants, I would also suggest to make reservations for dinner, it does get busy especially during weekends.
What to pack

Waterfalls and Hiking

Do your research before heading to hike, make sure you can navigate the area. Wear proper clothing. Watch for slippery rocks. Not recommended for young children.
Getting around

Transportation

Make sure you have a four wheel drive car or snow chains during cold season, as mountain roads have lots of turns & slopes and can be icy and covered in snow. Drive Safe!
