Neighborhoods

The “La Playa” Community Villa Guzmán is located in a long established typical Puerto Rican semi-rural community named “La Playa”. You might hear roosters crowing, see dogs and horses running free, and chickens may come into your yard. This does not mean they are feral. They’re just allowed to roam free, it’s a cultural thing. Neighbors are generally friendly and hospitable and crime is very low. That doesn’t mean that you should not take ordinary precautions such as closing the gates and doors at night. Villa Guzmán has been there since 1976 and so far, we have had no incident of concern. There is a small convenience store at Rd 401 near the entrance to the community (González Mini Market), and a bakery (Snuffy’s) where they sell fresh Puerto Rican bread (kind of like French bread). You can also get milk and other basic food staples there. Exiting Villa Guzmán’s front gate, across the street and to the right, there is shack called La Cueva del Cangrejo where they sell turnovers, but only after noon and on Saturdays and Sundays. Exiting the beach gate, if you walk to the right you will reach a fishing center where there is a beach shack called Sargasso. Mainly a watering hole, they have a limited but good choice of fresh fish dishes and empanadillas (turnovers) which you might enjoy (Cash only).
