Sightseeing

Kotor’s most impressive building, this Catholic cathedral was consecrated in the 12th century. Up in the reliquary chapel are some lovely icons, a spooky wooden crucifix (1288) and, behind the grill, assorted body parts of saints including St Tryphon. The early martyr’s importance to both the Catholic and Orthodox churches makes him a fitting patron for the city.

Our Lady of the Rocks is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in Bay of Kotor. It is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks (Italian: Chiesa della Madonna dello Scarpello) is the largest building on the islet; it has a museum attached. There is also a small gift shop close to the church and a navigation light at the western end of the islet.
