Food Scene

Whether you just want to pop in for a cup of coffee, a full-on English breakfast or light lunch or evening meal, the staff are always friendly and it is overlooking the beach. There are often special evenings arranged, but it often gets busy, so it's advisable to book. They also welcome dogs.

Lovely food but quite pricey. It's close to Pagham and some beautiful walks. I would also recommend the Crown and Anchor in Dell Quay for a harbour view (closer to Chichester).

This garden centre has an excellent cafe/restaurant, and lots of interesting things to buy. It is close to the Lamb Inn in Birdham, which also does good food.

Parks & Nature

A huge beach with lots of sand dunes closer to the East Head end of the beach. There are also areas to take the children crab fishing, a cafe, and beautiful walks on the coastal path. Lots of sand all day and a huge car park (albeit expensive in high season). You can hire watersports equipment and take lessons in a number of activities.

There is a fairly new nature reserve here which is only about a ten minute walk up the beach towards Selsey. It's excellent for birdlife.

There are a number of interesting museums in the area. Fishbourne Roman Palace, with its Roman mosaics, is probably the closest, but there is also the Weald and Downland Museum, and Butser Ancient farm which is an open air museum looking at ancient history from the Stone Age all the way through to the Vikings. There are hands on activities for children of all ages to do.

A quintessentially English seaside village with its own picturesque harbour, and cafes/a few shops. During high season you can catch the ferry from Itchenor there, and then it's about a 40 minute walk into the centre.

Everything Else

As well as Billy's on the Beach, there is also Clifford's, the Pond, and Dom's Pizza, as well as fish and chips and a chinese, all within walking distance. It's worth checking the tide times as you get sand a couple of hours either side of high tide. Some people come to find fossils on the beach, and I would highly recommend the sunsets all year around.
