Early 1900s Edwardian township - restored cottages, school house, church & businesses... Experience life as the early residents of Christchurch did - incl. the smell of a coal range & the sounds of a tram rattling past the door. Heritage displays are open for viewing, particularly on Sundays - operated by individual societies & manned by volunteers. Restored collections for you to enjoy: tractors, fire engines, aeroplanes, trams, trains, cars, printing, post & telegraph, model railway, photography & more... Interested in a particular display? Please contact the society in advance to ensure it is manned. Trams run weekends & school holiday-tickets additional. Steam train 2nd Sunday monthly.

After the central city was decimated by the 2010 and subsequent earthquakes, Cantabrians decided with their usual "she'll be right" attitude to reconstruct a temporary shopping centre and gathering place with a point of difference - it's all made out of transport containers! Shows what can be achieved with very few resources and a "can do" attitude :) xxx
