If you can make the drive north to Talkeetna, it is well worth the time. There are great little shops, amazing food, and if you are llucky one of the best views of "Denali" outside of the park.

City advice

Don't miss

Take a drive up Hatcher Pass for amazing views!

In the summer you can hike anywhere, trail or off the beaten path. Be sure to visit Indepedence Mine as well. In the winter, you can snowshow, back country ski or snowboard, or check out the new Skeetawk Ski Resort.
Don't miss

Reflection Lake walk

Reflection Lake is found along the Glenn Highway and is beautiful level walk around the scenic lake. The trail is wide and has various benches for stopping to enjoy the serenity of the beauty around you. There is an elevated viewing platform along the trail as well.
What to pack

Layers, Layers, Layers...and a raincoat

The key to comfort in Alaska is layers! Always have a hat and perhaps some thin gloves in the summer and fall, as well as your raincoat on hand.
