Getting Around

The 4,5,6 trains at 86th St are the easiest and fastest way to go downtown. There are buses that leave from right outside the building - and from outside the Met on 5th Avenue - which are slower but offer some nice views. There is also a crosstown bus on 86th St which goes to the Upper West Side. If you're staying for 3 days or more, and plan to travel a lot, it's worthwhile to buy a 7-day Unlimited MetroCard.

Governors Island is a secluded national park open only in the Summer, between May and September. In June it hosts the annual FIGMENT participatory arts festival. Sculptures from the festival, including an interactive treehouse and a mini-golf course, can be found on the island all summer. It has a unique, other-worldly feel to it, due to the lack of cars and high rise buildings on the island.
